One shouldn't fault anything merely for the sake of nostalgia. Granted, it's a common bias, but if you want to compare something truly, compare them as though you have never seen either before.
I am the farthest thing from a Pokemon Purist. I can understand them, but I would hope that they try to look at the newer generations with as little bias as possible.
