Gifted comedians can turn ordinary situations into something amusing, often offering a unique perspective on reality. But yes, not everyone can do it. It takes a special mind.
I'm surprised I'm only just now seeing Carlin on the list. I'll toss Woody Allen in. His stand-up required a very specific audience, I personally think he was brilliant, although lately- and understandably- he's gotten a little stale. His vintage audiobooks I really enjoyed, but Mere Anarchy was only decent in comparison to earlier works.
