Well, isn't that a really huge thing they all kept Ichigo in the dark about. I'm fully convinced Kubo just made this up for convenience at some point, because there's no way at least Rukia wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise. Actually Ichigo being a quincy is probably a relatively new fabrication too. Aizen did hint at it in the final battle though.

We getting another flashback, pendulum style? Awesome. So he was captain of the tenth division, he was good looking, and Rangiku was way more of an enjoyable character back then. Good times. I wonder how many years back that is, though. Hitsugaya's presence (and bankai) means it must be fairly recent.
