Hope that everyone had a good Victoria Day weekend (or National Patriots Day in Quebec). It's always struck me as odd how Victoria Day is considered a statutory holiday by the federal government, yet not all provinces elect to uphold that, so not everyone gets the long weekend.
Another interesting note is that there is a petition going around to
rename the holiday
to 'Victoria and First Peoples Day'. I'm sort of on the fence with this one, seeing as there is no real relationship between the two, and there's already a National Aboriginal Day in late June. After reading some other people's opinions, I'd like to see National Aboriginal Day recognized as a statutory holiday and keep the two days seperate, but I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks about the situation.
