Here is my first update for my Fire Red portion of my Bug UMC.

Waking up in Pallet Town, I headed out to meet Prof. Oak and received Squirtle as my starter. Beating my rival and obtaining a pokedex, I immediately head off to Viridian Forest to catch my two first members of my Ultimate Bug Squad. After a bit of rummaging I catch a suitable Weedle and Caterpie and begin training. 6 levels later I have myself a beautiful Butterfree and an intimidating Beedrill.

Butterfree-1.jpg
Beedrill-1.jpg

I proceeded through the forest, making quick time and leveling well. By the time I reached Brock both of them were at level 12. But this wouldn't be enough to beat Brock. I needed sleep powder to keep Brock's Onix's Rock Tomb for completely destroying my team with their 2x and 4x weaknesses. So after grinding up to level 15 I tackled Brock. Amanda's Confusion OHKO'ed Geodude. I got lucky with sleep powder and hit on the first try. Three confusions later and I was the victorious owner of the Boulder Badge

Brock-1.jpg

I continued on my journey east, through route 3. Battling trainers and leveling I reached Mt Moon. Here I would catch my newest team member. I caught the first Paras I found, and promptly named him Shroom. After Shroom caught up in levels I rolled through Mt Moon, stopping Team Rocket and obtaining a fossil, not that it will be any use to me.

Cerulean City is a beautifull city and after some shopping I tackled the Nugget Bridge. I wiped the floor with my rival and steam rolled through Nugget Bridge. I refused to join Team Rocket and helped Bill to receive the SS Ticket.

Gary1-1.jpg

Up comes my second gym battle, Misty. My recently caught Bug/Grass type Shroom will come in handy. I taught Skroom bullet seed from the TM I found in Mt Moon. Shroom carried me through most of the battle. Staryu was taken out with three bullet seeds but Stamie brought down Shroom just before he could finish the battle. Benny finished off with a single Twin Missle to beat Misty.

I saved outside Cerulean Gym and will continue my journey soon.

Okay, I was going to log in and post this before I started but, I did still follow the requirements for the Single game monotype.

I'm doing Grass, there's only a total of 6 different grass pokemon before the Elite Four (this is in Pearl)

So far Team is-
Torterra- Level 32
Budew- Level 29

I've made it to Veilstone (I ran to Pastoria just to see if I could get a Carnivine, going to have to wait another day) as of now I'm waiting for the honey trees to give me both a Burmy (female preferably) and a Cherubi.

Proper registration. Forgot this. lol

I just beat my rival (with the common hate name) at Hearthome. Oh forgot to mention all of my Pokemon will be named "Bruno <3" Okay. Did I miss anything?

I thought I'd try this to see if I'll enjoy it. I had done a mono-bug run of Black before, but it was a casual thing that I didn't record on a thread. Let's see how this goes, shall we? Maybe if I enjoy this run, I'll consider doing an ultimate run next.

I'm fairly new to this site and I was interested in doing a Dark-type mono run on Platinum. But i'm unsure if any Dark types are available until Houndour which is after the fourth gym I believe. So, is it legal to trade an egg from another game to my Platinum game for the challenge?

I believe if no Pokemon of your chosen type is available before the third gym, it is acceptable to trade over an egg of a pokemon that would be available in your game. So in your case it is perfectly legal to trade over a Houndour egg at the first opportunity you get.

This is my first update! I'm going to update at least once every time I defeat a gym, though if something interesting enough happens beforehand I'll update then.

-I chose Torchick as my starter, naming him 'Linkin'. I went through the beginning of the game, defeating my rival the very first time, and collecting the Pokeballs.

-I met my father, who runs the normal type Gym, and helped Wally capture his first pokemon. (A ralts, which could be a problem later for my team.) After finishing that, I immediately headed for Petalburg woods. I avoided any trainers I could with the intention of trading my first capture, which would be a Shroomish, on them.

-Luckily for me, the first thing I find in Petalburg woods is exactly what I was looking for. I captured a female Shroomish, named her 'Topper', and began raising her levels on the bushes just outside the entrance of Petalburg until she was Linkin's level.

-When Topper was on par with Linkin, I then went through the Petalburg woods. Linkin made quick work of the bug trainers there. I ran into a red-cloaked man who was heckling an employee of Devon Corp.

-The grunt sent out his Poochyena while I sent out Topper. Topper had little trouble taking him down, attacking with Leech Seed and Absorb to keep herself healthy while the Poochyena slowly fainted. The grunt ran off, and out of Gratitude the Devon employee gave me a great ball.

-I exited the woods and fought the trainers waiting outside. Linkin and Topper had little trouble taking them on. However, twin girls were the last challenge I had to face before reaching the next city.

-The girls challenged me to a double battle. They sent out a Seedot and Lotad while I sent out Linkin and Topper. I was afraid of Lotad going for Watergun on Linkin, so I focused him down with both of my pokemon first. However, the Lotad chose to use Absorb on Linkin instead. He fainted after two turns of being focused down. The Seedot didn't take long to down after taking an ember.

-I decided to take on Roxanne with my pokemon each at level 12. Topper had little trouble against the Geodude the Gym trainers had with his absorb attack. Linkin even gets in some work aswell, using ember to take down the Geodudes who didn't know rock throw and only knew tackle. I was pleased with how much damage Ember was doing.

-Before taking on Roxanne I decided I would need to evolve my Torchic into Combusken. I was fearing the Nosepass, so I went to the next route and trained Linkin some more, mostly preying on Nincada. After he became a Combusken and leveled up Topper to Level 14, I decided it was time to take Roxanne on.

-I recorded the battle and did a little bit of commentary here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H76vrr_EQiM
Keep in mind I'm aware of the mistakes I made in my commentary; you can laugh at my dumbness, but I'm already aware of the mistakes and will make sure not to mess up so badly in future gym battles.

Here are my Pokemon's stats after the Gym battle took place;

Pokemon; Combusken

Type; Fire/Fighting
Name; Linkin

Update 3#

Before I started this update I evolved my draga into a gyarados and train armor to level 20 thus both learned bite

so i enter mt.moon and battle all the trainers in there and picked up all the items so it wasn't a big deal

I get to route 5 and made armor learn mega punch instead of whitdraw which will be very helpful

i get to cerulean gym which was very hard to knock down since it was a water type gym

The battle with misty was annoying but i defeat her in the end staryu dies to a mega punch from armor and starmie falls to a crit bite from draga so yeah

by defeating misty i get tm03 water pulse and immaditly teach that to draga since draga's only water attack was hydro pump at level 40

then i defeat the nugget bridge and route 25 thus training both draga and armor to level 25 and draga learnes dragon rage instead of splash

then i did the bill event and he gave me an s.s.ticket to board the s.s.anne

in the next update i will take the road to varmillion city

I thought I had read that somewhere but I couldn't find it again.
But then that is where I hit my problem. As I am interested in doing a rather specific mono-type run but the Pokemon I need isn't available in Platinum, yet it's available in Diamond/Pearl.

If you are playing Diamond, Murkrow is in Eterna Forest (not in Pearl, btw). Pearl and Platinum don't have anyone early enough, so you can hack/trade in someone. Btw, in Platinum, your first available pokemon is Eevee, who evolves into Umbreon, and he's a gift in Hearthome City.

It depends on what game you play.
