I'm agree with you, my best final fantasy was the 8.

There are many thing i love from that game. The design of the characters, (they look like human, no mini toys XD), the futurist stage, the awsome cinematics, the GF animated, i remember when i played, i make the same moves of the GF. And the ragnarok, oh my god, fly that airship was a dream, really.

FF VI for me. For the same reasons as Team Fail and it was also made available for GBA.

I'm so happy nobody has said the cliché answer XD.

My favourite is IX, I loved the characters and the cutscenes still look amazing now. I also felt it had one of the better ability-learning mechanics.

VI and X are close behind.

Final Fantasy XII. Played 1-6 and 10, working on getting original PS copies of 7-9, but yeah, 12. The beast hunting guild is so much fun, OW has excellent locations, and it probably has the best end game I've ever experienced in an RPG. Story might be weak but who cares.THAT LIGHTHOUSE.

Are we counting just the numbers? Personally I loved Tactics. The story was amazing, even better in the remastered War of the Lions. Cell shaded CGI movies. It was a great game overall. Its one of few I constantly replay over and over again.

I'm definitely a huge fan of XII, as well. I've replayed it so many times...my gods. It has some of the most beautiful landscapes ever. But heh, My favorite would have to be FFXII and FVI, equally. Can't choose between the two. I honestly loved every single character in FFVI, and every villain in FFXII. I've played every Final Fantasy game, by the way.

My favourite is FF6. I love games where they throw a ton of characters at you which you can choose from. Second place would be FF4 (mainly because of The After Years, for the same reason as FF6 xD).

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest is cool, too.

AHAHAHA! Nobody has mentioned Final Fantasy VII yet! I'm actually happy about that. (I'm guessing that is the "cliche" answer SwiftSign mentioned...) I just started playing it a month or two ago, and to be honest, I'm really not liking Cloud as much as I thought I would. All the stuff that happened with Sephiroth and Aeris and all was cool, but still...

Hm, I'm actually surprised that the popular favourite here seems to be VI. Although, I actually have to agree with that one. I just love all the characters in it (both the heroes AND the villains), and the gameplay feels very smooth and straightforward, though still a bit complex and always with new things to learn. And it's full of interesting and funny little moments--Kefka complaining angrily about sand (of all things), fighting with an army of Moogles, a very memorable opera scene about to be crashed by an octopus, a playable flashback of Terra's past, Setzer sweeping foes with a Chocobo stampede... It also has one of the catchiest main battle themes I ever heard. And hey, Setzer's airship is pretty darn cool too; it even has its own mini-casino inside (not that any of the games are playable).

I was never a fan of games where you have to choose a character from a certain class and choose what party to use at the very beginning, and I don't give a (insert nasty word here) about how fancy the graphics are in a game. And plus, I'm a little bit biased because I haven't played very many Final Fantasy games. I want to try out IV and the very first one next, but all I've played were VI and VII so far. I'll probably never play VIII onward anyway, simply because I don't have the right console to play them...

Years ago I would've said VII or X, but after playing most of the series, I'll say it's a toss-up between Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy XII for me. Both have wonderfully fleshed-out worlds. I personally enjoy IX for its quirkiness and comedy via its characters, as well as the retro-ness of it all, and I love XII for its political intrigue and story, as well as Ivalice as a setting itself. If I had to pick a favourite game right down to the details though, I think IX edges out.

Final Fantasy IV, definitely. Why? I think it has some of the best character development and twists (cough cough Cecil and Kain respectively), and the whole setting was beautiful. Personally, I'm more of a fan of that late medieval/early renaissance feel the earlier games had, and I think, combined with the 16 bit art style and general sombre mood of the game, that IV pulled it off excellently.

Of course it would have to be X the characters and plot were amazing and the game get's really sad especially mixed in with the most depressing song ever dream's end and that other one where the girl was singing, and it was really just fun to play *coughs So much death in the game Cough*.Plus i'm pretty sure this was the first one to have another depressing sequel but still fun to play.My next choice would be IV or VIII

FF12. No Random Battles. You get to see monsters crawling around the field. You can run away from them. The Gambit System allows you to Customize the game-play to suit your desires.

The story was great. No love stories or space squids on the moon. No time compressing witches. No memory loss. Just good old political drama. It is thrilling when it needs to be and allows many exotic locations to show up.

The License Board was much better than the sphere grid.

Two flaws with the game is that summon/quickenings and MP are on the same bar. This caused you to have triple the MP the MP you were suposed to have. And, the license board gave magic to non-magic characters.
--These flaws were fixed in the international release though. FF12: Zodiac Job System.

And, the license board gave magic to non-magic characters.

There are no "non-magic" characters in the FFXII world, because magic is freely accessible to everyone who learns a spell. And buying a license is essentially the same as receiving training in it. I definitely can only think of two characters that seem even remotely mage-like, and that's Fran and Penelo.

Gonna hop on the VI wagon here. It was the second FF that I beat and I just really loved both the story and the cast. Not gonna lie: I spent more time paying attention to Kefka's progression than the story itself because it really was done well. I've been meaning to play it again, but it's on so many platforms that I can't decide which one I want (maybe PSP).

Second place is X, though. Don't care what anybody says. I really enjoyed X (and even X-2 because the Dress Sphere system was great (although getting Lady Luck is horse crap and I hate Sphere Break)).

Main series IX, the characters (Zidane, Quina, Freya and Kuja <3) and story, followed very closely by VIII, nostalaga really always thought Seifer was cool (Zell too).
Out of all it has to be FFT, I love everything about it.
