Yeah Roxie was a disappointment...we need a better poison gym leader. Though what would their theme be? We had two ninjas (a clan?) and a poison metal(?) star. I guess we could have a sewage worker...
For Bug they could be a semstress. Hope she's a female whose name is a pun on Arachne, the mother of all spiders in greek myth.

well, I know this may seem really out there, how about having 17 gyms, one for each type. I know its probably not going to happen but it would change the game play a bit.

What I would like to see most is Dark Type gym as one most of the fans. An immediate rival as gym leader would be new, and a nice change of pace imo.

Maybe a Chemist that experiments with Chemicals that could be termed "poisonous". Because I always felt that when I ran into a Chemist/Scientist character like in RBY FRLG that they would have something like a Koffing/Weezing or a Grimer/Muk.

Either the regional dex would have to be expansive like BW2 with 300 or this would have to include multiple regions. And seeing as all the past regions aren't in 3D like this current one I don't see them going back and making it fit into the 3D like they currently have it. It would be nice though.

I know we haven't even seen a glimpse of the Gym Leaders but hey, what better time to think of them than now?

Do you think they're going to do a dark type Gym Leader finally? Or perhaps a Gym Leader can dual specialize this time around?

I feel like they might do a dark type gym, this place reminds me of France which for some reason makes me think lots of dark types and steel types idk why xD

pokemon x and y: gym leaders and rivals

The gym leaders would probably be the most unused types but what could the rival be?

Gym Speculaton...

This here link

As you see through this video, it showed a web-like trampoline when the male protagonist falls down. But what kind of gyms should be included? Do you think that a Dark gym should be implemented? What should these gyms look like anyway? Share your ideas.

I liked the ideas that they put in Gen IV and Gen V with the obstacle courses. I do hope a Dark Gym will finally come. We got enough Dark type Pokemon to make a whole gym based out of it :)

Dark Type Pokemon Gym. PLEASE. It's been bugging me forever.
Anyway, one thing I would really like to be addressed is that Gyms seem sort of like McGuffins in the plot. Obviously, they drive the plot, but I feel like we've NEVER had any Gym that has had too much thought put into it, which is a shame in my opinion. I don't know exactly what I'd want but I do know I find all the current Gyms to be poor and not very exciting to play through.

This is just my opinion, of course! I'm pretty sure most people are content with the Gyms, and it's not like it's a huge issue anyway.

Already covered by this existing thread, so merged.

I also agree that a Dark type gym would be nice to see finally.

I'm really hoping for a Steampunk-themed electric or steel gym. I'm also holding out for the long-awaited Dark-type Gym because that would be amazing.

I'm personally a big sucker for cool-named gym Leaders, and I've been brainstorming names for a while. Such as Colleen for a bug type leader because it sounds like "colony", or Aria for a female flying-type leader. And Stella for a steel type leader. And a bunch of other stuff <3

We Need a dark gym and a fire gym also diversity with the pokemon for example if there isn't enough new electric types in the gen use old pokemon I don't wanna see another volkner situation that forced him to have to use other types also I hate when gym leaders have copies of pokemon

These are my thoughts/theories/hopes on the gym leaders, in no particular order:

  • Poison (seriously, there should be more of these)
  • Fighting
  • Bug (the one with webs hints at it)
  • Fire (the one with two fire columns. Its been a while since we had a fire-gym, hasn't it?)
  • Dark (Finally!)
  • Grass
  • Ground (Maybe to showcase a new Eeveelution?)
  • Supposed new type (which is a rumor I've seen floating around on the internet)

Not really sure how to speculate, perhaps we can have dual typing gyms that'll be awesome!

If she was named Colleen that'd drive me crazy, given that I'm not really a biiig fan of that name. I do like Aria and Stella as names, (although version exclusive gym leaders for females/males based on if you have X or Y is interesting if each character has a different personality/name which I hadn't really thought of before and just were their friend, or had another role in that city in the opposite game - I know your post wasn't about that but it reminded me of that given that you mentioned only females!)

My suggestion for gym leaders' type would be (in no particular order):

Dark (we don't have one at all)
Steel (there's only 2 steel-type gyms)
Fire (since gen 3 we don't have one; not counting with Stration Gym)
Grass (there's only 2 grass-type gyms)
Psychic (Since Gen 3 we don't have one)
Poison (not counting with BW2, we don't have one since gen 1)
Fighting (we don't have one since gen 4)
Ghost (there's only 2 ghost-type gyms)

I'm hoping for the following:

A Normal-type Gym: Preferably set in either an artist's studio, or a museum, with the Leader being a young man or woman of high social status. No puzzle, just proceed to the Leader. This would obviously be the easiest gym and would provide neutral coverage for the starters.

A Fire-type Gym: Set in either a factory (Fuego Ironworks) or deep underground. To get to the Gym Leader, you must light fires in a specific pattern to open new paths. The Leader could be a fire-breathing street performer. This would be the second gym.

A Grass-type Gym: Set deep in a forest, or in a labyrinth-like garden. Getting to the Gym Leader would be simple, having to navigate the natural labyrinth. The Leader would be the garden/forest's caretaker. This would be the third gym.

A Water-type Gym: Set in a large aquarium, preferably underwater. To proceed, the player must ride a robotic Mantine to different exhibits, with only one leading to the Gym Leader. The Leader would be the aquarium's caretaker and marine wildlife expert. This would be the fourth gym.

An Electric-type Gym: Set in a large power plant. To proceed, you must turn breakers on and off to disable and enable electrical fields and machinery. The Leader would be the plant's operator. This would be the fifth gym.

A Fighting-type Gym: Set in a Japanese-style dojo. You must defeat four Trainers in succession in order to battle the Leader. The Leader would obviously be the sensei of the dojo. This would be the sixth gym.

A Psychic-type Gym: Set in a library, or some surreal, other-dimension. To proceed, you would have to determine what direction would yield the proper path, as compared to a dead end. The Leader would be a talented psychic and possibly have high status in the city. This would be the seventh gym.

A Dark-type Gym: Set in pitch-black concert hall. To proceed, you would have to defeat Trainers to cause spotlights to come to life and illuminate your way to the next Trainer. The Leader would be a brooding musician or poet. This would be the eighth gym.

We really need a Gym to have the Dark type as their speciality. We really do.
I'm hoping for a Dark gym,
Flying gym,
Bug gym,
Physic gym,
Fire gym,
Ice gym,
Normal gym,
and a Fighting gym. I don't know, just preferences I'd like to see.

I believe someone already said this, but I have always wanted Gym Leaders to have cool strategies instead of being just mono-type. It is too easy to beat them like that. Some strategies that Gym Leaders could have could be:

A weather based team (sunny day, rain dance, hail, sandstorm)

An Eevee based team (this would be really interesting)

There could be a team for status inducing moves

A defensive team

An offensive team

A team that uses stat boosting moves (baton pass?)

It would also be interesting to see another trainer/gym leader have a minor legendary like one of the birds or golems like they do in the anime.
