Destiny Saviouer :: Destiny's House, Limbo
Chapter Two :: Backyard Insanity

Destiny waved her feet in the air, sitting on the branch of a tree, enjoying a pleasant breeze. Even though the planet of Limbo itself was relatively barren, the area around Destiny's house was green with grass and there were multiple trees of various Earth varieties. Her favorite had to be the cherry blossom tree. It was just so beautiful, and when the rose-colored petals fell, the sight was indescribable.

Destiny had planted the grass and trees around her house herself. Her house was a bit detached from the others, giving her a bit of privacy. She was six thousand years old, so she could get away with a few extra perks compared to the younger reapers. Her pure white aura and powers over the soul enabled her to maintain the environment around her house, which was very useful and amusing. Six thousand years on an incredibly unremarkable planet could become a huge bore after the first few days. To put it bluntly, Limbo sucked. When you're offered immortality and one of the most powerful positions in the multiverse, you might expect the immortal planet that you'll be staying on to be huge and extravagant, and filled with natural beauty.

Nope, that was probably the opposite of Limbo. Earth was so much more beautiful. Even in its current, polluted state it was still better on the eyes than this planet.

"This place makes me want to scream," Destiny stated, her tone flat.

"Yes, you say that just about every day," replied the tall, slender figure standing next to the tree that Destiny was perched upon. Even though he was standing, he was still eye level with Destiny, and she was ten feet off the ground. After all, Slenderman had the ability to manipulate his height. He also didn't have eyes, so that made the whole eye-level point moot.

"And I'll stop saying it when it is no longer true, Crispy," Destiny said in a matter-of-fact tone.

Crispin grumbled. For six thousand years he had told Destiny to not call him "Crispy," but for six thousand years she persisted in doing so. He was the equivalent of a Grim Reaper, but he enjoyed Destiny's company, so he tolerated it. And, honestly, after so long as an immortal, he actually enjoyed such terms of endearment. After all, every human he saw on Earth fled at the mere sight of him. He'd built up quite the reputation over the past few thousand years, so practically all humans knew of his existence. Well, most of them considered him to be a creature of fiction, but that was beside the point. The gray-skinned creature sitting next to him found himself in a similar predicament.

Ristru Atticus KelEstra the second, known by humans as The Rake, was also an ancient Reaper, and he was closely associated with Crispin. The two had often been partners in the past, and they were both exceptionally well known Reapers on Earth. Destiny, on the other hand, was incredibly boring and preferred to stay an enigma, rather than become awesomely famous like her two bestest reaper friends. Ristru's skin was an ashen grey, and on his fingers he had long, sharp, incredibly deadly metal claws. The metal didn't have a name in any human tongue, as it was a long forgotten alloy used for weapons in a few ancient, long forgotten civilizations. Even Ristru wasn't even sure if the metal had its origins on the big blue sphere, but he did know that there was none left on the planet today.

"I'm bored," Ristru stated.

"You're always bored," Destiny and Crispin said in unison.

"That's not true!" Ristru yelped, indignant. "Then again," he continued, looking around the yard with wondering eyes, "it probably is."

"Yes, it is," Destiny stated again. "You're very easily amused, but you have the attention span of a toddler."

"Not to mention you look funny," Crispin added.

"No funnier than you! You don't even have eyes!" Ristru retorted.

"And the ball goes spinning again!" Destiny yelled. All three of them burst into laughter. There really was no real joke behind what they said, but it was something they did often and so they acted as if it was some hilarious inside joke. More than a few reapers had almost died trying to figure out what they laughed about.

But their near death experiences never had anything to do with the "joke." It just happened to be that many of them never figured it out, and then they nearly died. Absolutely no connection whatsoever.

"It's a bird!" Crispin cheered, pointing at a black dot in the sky.

"It's a plane!" Destiny yelled.

"It's a duck! Wait, no, that could be my mother. . . . No, it is most definitely a duck!" Ristru said, jumping with excitement.

A moment later a raven had landed on the branch beside Destiny. She took the letter that it carried and it flew off.

"It's a bomb!" Ristru screeched, pressing his hands to his face and continuing to scream as he ran in circles around the yard like a madman, which he was.

As Ristru spazzed out in the background, Destiny opened the letter and began to read it.

"New mission?" Crispin inquired, talking in his regular voice, despite the sound of Ristru's insanity invading their conversation.

"Yup. In New York City, no less. Powerful magical force, apparently." Destiny frowned as she continued to read the letter. "But I have a partner." She sighed. "Oh well, maybe they won't be too bad."

"Ooooooh, magycks?" Ritsu said, his face inches away from Destiny as he read over her shoulder. Neither Destiny nor Crispin had realized that he had stopped screaming and had climbed the tree behind Destiny. He was interesting like that.

"Yes, magycks," Destiny said, patting Ristru on the head.

"Well then, you'd best be going," Crispin said. "Wouldn't want to disappoint me, now would you?"

"Of course not," Destiny replied, jumping from the tree onto her feet. "I'll be back in a few minutes anyways. You know me." With that, she left the yard and headed for Earth.

♛♛♛♛♛

Destiny walked among the crowd of New Yorkers, not even earning a second or even first glance, in some cases, from the passersby. She may have been wearing an interesting cloak, but in New York that was hardly interesting. Perhaps she was just another nineteen-year-old cosplayer waiting for her friends. There were certainly stranger things to see in the city.

"Kalek was the name, I believe," Destiny mumbled, staring off into space. For the moment she was just waiting for her partner to arrive. It's not like the city was in major peril at the moment, so time wasn't much of an issue. Once her partner arrived, the source of the magic shouldn't be hard to track down.

Luka Sokolov - Chapter 2-1: Tricked

Luka leapt from one rooftop another in a futile attempt to escape his pursuers. He knew that unless Nox had completed his part of the mission already, there would be no help on the way for him. He also knew that wasn't very likely either, as Nox had some powerful enemies after him. As he fled, Luka reloaded his crossbow, which was a difficult thing to do while running. He couldn't use it, though, because that would involve turning around, a risk he wasn't willing to take. If he did, there was a chance he would appear, and Luka would have no way of fighting that harbinger if he spent his arrow on one of the ones chasing him, so his only choice was to keep running. Damn...How the hell did this even happen? Luka kept his eyes forward, hoping that his stamina was good enough for him to keep running long enough for his partner to pull through. That was all he could do for now. He began to reflect on how the situation got like this, how their plan went so wrong.

_________________________

Luka and Nox had arrived in Bayamo and found their target, and they even had a plan to get him. It all seemed so simple. A scan of the city from the tallest building in the area with Luka's hawk-like eyes and crossbow scope revealed his location, and he matched the description given to them by the Grim Reapers perfectly. The only problem was getting to him. It seemed he was smarter than Luka had assumed but, then again, this was a man who managed to discover the existence of their kind. Their target was a tan-skinned man with short black hair in his early thirties. Unfortunately, after spotting him, he ran into a college campus, where there were hundreds of people with a similar appearance. Luka was no longer able to snipe him, so they formulated a plan. Nox was to use his disguising talents and sneak into the college where he would take the target to a secluded area and take him out, and Luka would keep track of the surroundings in case the target left and watch for approaching harbingers. Fighters would be easily recognizable from their weapons, but the magic users would be the ones he was unable to spot.

The biggest question, though, was how he knew they had spotted him. The most likely scenario was that he had a contact that he had assigned to keep watch, and that they spotted them on the roof of that building. Regardless, their mission was a race against time. Whether or not he had seen them, they still needed to get to him before the harbingers. They initiated the plan and split up for the time being. As Luka stood as sentry, he thought about the mission. At first, he didn't think much. The mission was simple enough. Sure the man was smart, but he was still just a man.

Luka spotted a man running in an alley with a greatsword and took him out after getting close enough for proper aiming. They would need to be in relatively secluded, or at least shady areas if they were going to be toting deadly medieval weapons in broad daylight, which made his job that much easier. He would constantly rotate between four different tall buildings (all of them with a view of the campus) to be able to watch over as much of the city as he could. He soon noticed another man with a pair of short swords. A quick arrow took him out as well. Things were going quite smoothly and he assumed that Nox would be able to take care of any mages that came after him. That's when everything took a turn for the worst.

"Could you please stop putting arrows through our people's skulls?" The voice came from right behind Luka. He turned around quickly and pointed his weapon at the new arrival. It was a brown haired young man, not much older in appearance than himself, who wore a white parka. Luka's eyes went wide. "Ring a bell?" The harbinger held his arms out, showing off his outfit. "Mind you, I wasn't actually at the warehouse, I've just been wearing this in hopes of meeting one of the reapers who was."

"Who are you, and how did you get here," Luka asked with a fierce tone.

"You know, I'm still shocked that a team of three took out her group." He continued as if he hadn't heard Luka. "They must have really been something." Luka had grown tired of him, and let the arrow fly. As soon as it made it's way to him, he was gone. "Well that wasn't very nice, was it?" Immediately, Luka turned around to see the man behind him once more. "Here I am trying to have a civilized conversation, yet you just can't keep you're fingers off that trigger. How rude." Luka drew his sword and slashed at him once, twice, three times. Each time, the harbinger disappeared and reappeared someplace slightly farther back. It seemed that he was very skilled in teleportation, and that Luka simply wasn't fast enough.

"What do you want, harbinger?" Luka was annoyed. He wasn't attacking him, so he had to be here for something.

"Come now, haven't you figured it out yet?"

Something felt wrong. If there was a harbinger like this here, wouldn't he have been able to just teleport to their target? Luka's face went pale with the realization. This was a trap. "Ah, now you get it! Don't get the wrong idea, though. This trap wasn't especially for you. It was only a coincidence that you were one of the ones at the warehouse incident. We knew that the Grim Reapers would try sending someone to stop a man risking harm to the balance. Oh, look!" Luka turned his head and saw four people, who he assumed to be harbingers, storm onto the roof. Damn it, he was buying time! "We can't let you kill our newest recruit, we've lost so many already. Well, goodbye then." The mysterious man was gone, and now Luka was left with four enemies and an unloaded crossbow. Things looked bad, and he could only imagine what kind of trouble Nox was in.

Masato Ryu - Chapter 2 - Vatican City

Masato was waiting for his partner for a while before he felt that he was wasting his time. After all, the speech could be happening at any time. He turned around, deciding not to wait any longer, and headed to the area where they teleport to Earth. He would answer to the Grims later for not waiting around. He concentrated and opened a portal to the Vatican. Everything he saw through the portal was bright and somewhat pristine. All of a sudden, Masato felt a sense of foreboding. He had a feeling that something bad was going to happen, something...BIG! He decided to push those feelings to the back of his mind for now as he walked through the portal...

Instantly, he walked out onto the sidewalk as the portal shut behind him. Thankfully, no one saw him come in that way, or he'd have a lot of explaining to do. As he looked around to take in his surroundings, his eyes came upon a gigantic church-style building. That place must be the Vatican, he thought. Masato started heading that way, towards the Vatican. He noticed right away that, thanks to his appearance, he stuck out like a sore thumb. The looks he got from passers-by didn't make him feel much better: looks of fear and condemnation. So many people clutching their cross necklaces as they passed him, thinking it would keep them safe...it almost offended him, in a way. They thought HE was demonic? A smile crept across his lips as he thought about how they'd react to a REAL demon in their midst.

He finally got to the building and noticed something was amiss. There was no one near the balcony. Why would so many people not want to miss this speech? This would be the single most-anticipated event in the world and no one was witnessing it? Maybe he was early, he thought, as the feeling of foreboding got stronger. Ignoring those feelings, Masato finally found a way inside (a slightly-ajar door) and used it. Now came the hard part: searching for his mark. He slowly made his way through the individual rooms, looking for the priest, keeping out of sight of anyone else there. As he reached the door for one room, though, he felt a shiver running down his spine. He felt that there was something in this room. Whatever it was, it was drawing him towards it...almost begging him to enter it. The door, however, was locked. He reached into his secret pocket, revealing his lockpick set. It took him less than a minute to unlock the door and quickly entered the room before anyone saw him.

He turned to the room and saw a single chair at the end of the room. It was the mark he was looking for! Before Masato could react, however, the priest spoke. "Foolish Reaper," he spoke, his voice monotone and seemed like it was out-of-body. Was someone using his body to talk to him? "You came alone? You have no idea who you're dealing with!" the priest declared, as he slowly disappeared. All of a sudden, he heard laughing behind him. Quickly turning behind him, he saw a larger man wearing a white cloak, the hood pulled over his head to hide most of his face. A Harbinger! Hearing the doors lock all around him, the realization finally came to him. "This was a trap, all along...", Masato said to himself, mentally cursing himself for not being more careful.

Again, the Harbinger laughed, "Of course. How else could we meet like this? You Reapers always get in our way, always interfere with our plans." The cloaked figure removed his hood, revealing an older gentleman (looked about 45 years old) with grey streaks in his hair. His eyes were an intense green and focused solely on Masato, as he revealed his arms. He had a set of claws on top of both hands, the blades extending past his knuckles by about a foot. A sinister grin formed on the Harbinger's face. "This time will be different," the man declared, "This time, YOU are the victim!" As Masato grabbed his weapons and readied himself for battle, the cloaked man closed his eyes and shimmered. Quickly, three more figures appeared and surrounded him. The Harbingers were all identical to the first: same cloak, same face, same weapons. All four of them slowly walked in a circle, laughing as Masato tried to keep his eyes on them, bracing for an attack. Now he knew why he kept feeling uneasy about this mission. Whatever happened next, he knew...this was going to be a tough battle.

Adrian Frode

Adrian, with Spencer not far behind, ran across the hot, red Australian dirt of the Great Sandy Desert at an even pace. Their target, a large and horned fire demon, was loping across the landscape slowly so there was no need for the pair of reapers to move too fast and Adrian, probably Spencer to, welcomed the reprieve after the intensity of the previous mission.

"We'll have caught up to it in less than ten minutes... if it can't move any faster than that this will be easy I think. But then again, anything can happen in our line of work". After their first encounter the two had said little to each other, which didn't bother Adrian much - he liked good company but even the simplest missions should be taken seriously in his eyes. The two ran for another five minutes before they heard the twang of a taught string being released and the whistle of a projectile... or multiple projectiles flying through the air. Adrian whirled drawing his sword in the same motion cutting the group of projectiles, which turned out to be arrows, out of the air and leaving them in a pile at his feet. He looked to see two figures standing a little less than two hundred metres away from he and Spencer, who had also stopped.

The first, and taller of the two, was the one who had shot the arrows (identifiable by the bow he carried ). He was tall, a little taller than Adrian and of a similar build to him. The harbinger, as he clearly was, was an albino with spiky white hair tied into a ponytail and sharp eyes... one of which was covered by a black eye patch. He wore simple black pants and a loose, black shirt with a large v-neck descending to slightly above his navel over which was a white robe - yet to be marred by the red dirt. He had a well-stocked quiver on his back identifying him as a ranged fighter but he also had a sword of a deep blue colour hanging at his hip. His partner was a (seemingly) young woman, significantly shorter than her cohort but of a similar build. She had neck length, straight brown hair with a long fringe. She wore pants the same as the male harbinger and a simple white jacket. Around her arms were thin blue bracelets, around her neck a black bandanna. She carried no weapons bar some thin blades, seemingly meant for throwing, hanging from her belt. Adrian guessed she preferred to fight at close-range.

"How in the hell did they know we were going to be here?" Adrian wondered aloud before turning to Spencer "I'm fairly certain we will have to take these two out before being able to go after our demon, which will take time and probably put us at a disadvantage... we can't afford a drawn out battle so we should deal with them quickly."
So much for an easy mission, anything really can happen in our line of work.

Adrian looked at the bow that the albino was already re-stringing and immediately realised that Spencer would be at a disadvantage against the harbinger with the long-ranged weapon -
and unfortunately good accuracy he thought to himself remembering that he had shot a volley of arrows, at the same time, all of which had been perfectly aimed.
"You take the woman, I'll take the guy with bow" Adrian said to Spencer and without waiting for a reply quickly crossed the distance between he and the harbingers - cutting down another volley as he went.

Spencer - Chapter 2

------------------------------------------------------------------

The air of the desert pissed him off. During his lifetime he had always wanted to travel to a desert but now he hated even the name or the idea of the place...

"The demon has been heading to my left for a little while now at a fairly slow pace, it is doubtful that it is overly fast but it has a fairly bulky build so it looks like it may be quite physically strong... not to mention it has those nasty horns. Honestly I could have easily caught up to it by now, as most any reaper could have, but I figure it is an unknown enemy that even the Grims seem to know little about so I figured I should wait for you."

Spencer nodded respectfully of this. Apparently his ally was more analytical than him, which definitely seemed to be a strength although he seemed to lack confidence in his ability to take them down, which was a feeling Spencer could understand. This demon was a close range fighter but it might have some tricks up it's sleeve or be completely above them in combat prowess.

"Honestly I don't know what the Grims were thinking sending me on this mission, my last one was insane. It seemed to be straight forward enough but throughout the course I ended up fighting against a few too many harbingers. I'm exhausted... but they are ancient and wise so I figure either I'm supposed to be a sacrificial pawn or that they think I have something special to bring to the mission. Sorry for asking, but what was your last mission like? I figure it is a good idea to ascertain the conditions of allies as well as the enemy. Speaking of which... how would you like to go about this demon of ours? From what I hear you are highly effective close-range, which is the area I'm best in also... although I have some decent mid to long-range spells and can cover distance quite quick. Should we just take the brute force approach do you think?" said Adrian.

A pawn or something special? Although Spencer had no doubt that his ally was powerful in his own aspect, he didn't doubt that the Grims thought everyone else was disposable of. He bet they looked at himself as nothing more than a weapon, like some sort of tank that you could easily manufacture with the proper resources.

"Harbingers?" Spencer said curiously, "Blimey, you must have had a heck of a time trying to get them to stay down from what I've heard about them."

Spencer scratched his head for a moment. He wasn't good all to much at planning out battles ahead of time. Looking at Adrian, he shrugged. "Ahhhhh.... Do what you feel comfortable doing since you seem to be on top of me in strategy. I'm sorta... unable to use any long range attacks unless they are physical and I have no casting abilities. Choose whatever fighting style you wish to use for yourself although keep my limitation in mind. Also going all gung-ho and attacking with pure strength seems like a bad idea for the demon."

Brute force seemed like a bad idea although really Adrian shouldn't take his word for it. After all, to Spencer most of the problems in the world came from people talking about things they know nothing about.

As they ran ahead through the desert, Spencer tried to ignore the heat, although he couldn't avert his mind to other thoughts. In a swift second a whizzing noise, similar to a blade cutting through air, came from ahead. Adrian took the initiative and sliced up the arrows with ease.

"What was that for..." Spencer clenched his fist, turning in the direction the arrows came from and tightening his fist. He was in no mood to be stopped now. He hated interruptions and anyone who tried to get the jump on other people in a fight. He looked up to glare at the male and ignored the Harbringer's companion. "It's common courtesy to fight people head-on from the start."

Spencer raised his right hand to his neck and cracked it. Looks like they were going to have to rush this fight in order to catch their mission target. These guys were low-priority to Spencer but they seemed to be more important. Why just two Harbringers? They had to be at least above average in strength.

"You take the woman, I'll take the guy with bow."

Spencer nodded in appreciation. Adrian had kept his weakness in mind and he had to remember to thank him for that in the long run. "Thanks." Spencer shouted out to Adrian, who had already engaged the albino archer in combat. Spencer sighed as he looked up to the other Harbringer before his eyes widened in shock and his breathing halted.

In front of him was a brown-haired girl, who looked exactly like his sister... only she was walking. Spencer held out his hand for a suspended minute... The paraplegic sister, who always dreamed of traveling... was walking...

Seeing Spencer's surprised reaction, the girl fell into a fit of amused laughter, almost as if she didn't take his reaction seriously.

"I haven't seen you in a while..." she managed to utter out before continuing to laugh even harder as Spencer stared in disbelief.

Clenching his fist, a vain protruded on Spencer's forehead. This was some kind of a trick of illusion. He knew that his sister wouldn't become a Harbringer. She had too much of a peaceful personality for it. He dashed out at the girl with his fists raised. "You LIAR!"

Adrian Frode

Something was very off, Adrian wasn't entirely sure what and couldn't afford to take his mind any further off of his battle, but something was very strange about the sudden appearance of these harbingers. Pushing his concerns away temporarily Adrian launched himself at his opponent, an Albino harbinger wielding a bow, at his full speed intending to catch him by surprise and take the upper hand in the battle quickly. But he had underestimated his opponent; the harbinger easily matched Adrian's speed whirling around to stand behind Adrian, who skidded to a halt spraying red dirt up from around his feet.
"How the hell...?"

Adrian was shocked, it had been a very long time since anyone had managed to actually match his speed in battle - and he hadn't never been matched in speed by a harbinger. The ominous feeling he had shaken off returned as Adrian realised that his opponent was at a whole other level to the harbingers he had faced in Moscow the previous day.
Harbingers certainly have the same strengths and weaknesses as we do... and even the same likelihood of developing unique special abilities... that's all been proven throughout our encounters. But this just seems strange. The harbingers have only arisen recently (in reaper terms anyway) yet a single one of them is being able to fight on the same level as me? I don't like to be cocky but I have been training and improving for well over a hundred years... how could he possibly have the same skill level?

Adrian rushed his opponent again this time aiming to trick the harbinger. He ran with his sword high, but the dropped to one knee and tried to cut the knees of his opponent. Again he was outdone though; the harbinger stepped down on the charcoal blade, pinning it to the ground and loosed an arrow at Adrian at close range. In a burst of speed Adrian moved to the side slightly, his face being grazed by the projectile, and swung his left leg around causing his opponent to jump over it and allowing him to retrieve his sword. Adrian leaped back distancing himself from his enemy as he heard Spencer yell at his own opponent
"You LIAR!"

"Who the hell are you people?" he questioned the man across from him, who was still unscathed despite the rapid pace of their battle.
"We are harbingers"
"I got that, but that doesn't answer my question"
"I'm Calder. That's all you need to know."

He's toying with me... which is even more disturbing. I should watch myself because there are so many things completely wrong with this situation. He couldn't possibly just be naturally this talented could he?

As Spencer fought with the woman no more than two-hundred metres away Adrian prepared again to attack Calder. This time he would be using a ranged attack of his own to start things off. Adrian felt the familiar power bubbling within his being as he tapped into the magical energy he gained upon becoming a reaper and let loose a powerful blast of wind from his position. The gust whipped up the sand between he and Calder before knocking the bow from the latter's hand as he knocked another arrow. Adrian took his chance launching himself at this enemy and swinging his blade is a fast, powerful loop at his head.

In a movement so fast it appeared to happen instantaneously Calder had drawn his own blade, a thin sword of similar make to Adrian's of a deep blue colour and and blocked the slashing attack. Calder smirked at Adrian before delivering a strong kick to his gut, propelling him back several feet and sending him reeling in the dirt.
He isn't just matching my speed, he's faster. the realisation was terrifying to Adrian, as a dreadful thought crossed his mind It's like someone took the best of me and Luka, made a harbinger out of those skills and then made him even more powerful. Not only is he a highly skilled ranged attacker but he's at least able to hold his own with me close range... but he's also a little faster. Not much, but enough to give him the same edge over me that I was hoping to have against him. I don't know if I can win.

Adrian prepared to face his, seemingly superior opponent again.
"This time, I'm going to get you."
"Good luck with that" Calder jeered.

Spencer - Chapter 2

------------------------------------------------------------------

Each flurry of punches Spencer threw at the girl harbinger was easily dodged. She just didn't dodge each set of punches but she dodged each punch individually by moving her entire body. Her speed was amazing and Spencer was so caught up in attack that he didn't expect to see a palm soar to his face.

Her palm seemed to cut through air at a high velocity and caused a distortion in the air around it. Instead of a blow being landed on his face, she paused her fist in place just centimeters from his face and the force she put behind it continued to accelerate forward, independent of her hand. Spencer gathered up resistance with his face and attempted to stand his ground firmly as the attack pushed him slowly back. It generated a strong wind and caused Spencer's hair to blow around wildly.

He was so focused on this that the brown-haired harbinger easily managed to land a single kick without much effort. She definitely could have followed up her kick with a variety of attacks but instead she stood idle and stuck out her tongue at him. It was obvious she was just toying with him and treating this fight as a source of amusement although the impact of her foot caused Spencer to lose complete resistance against the attack.

A loud slap noise came from the impact against Spencer's face and continued to push him back a few yards, while simultaneously, the kick would have caused Spencer's stomach to arch in if he hadn't receive equally as much force to the head.

Spencer pivoted back as the attack pushed him back until the strength of it slowly began to wade. Spencer got his footing and immediately though of a new approach to attack. He dug his right foot in the ground and took a giant, 10 yard, horizontal leap towards the girl harbinger. Spencer raised his foot for a kick and sent up a giant wall of sand that continuously was thrown up until he swung his right leg at the harbinger, sending sand at her face. She moved below his leg and grabbed it, swinging him around 3 times before throwing him up. Before Spencer could react in mid-air, she disappeared behind him and volleyball spiked him into the ground, sending up another cloud of sand. As she fell towards the ground, she heel dropped Spencer, causing him to spit up a handful of blood up. The wall of sand began to rain down on the entire area, likely enough to last for a minute or two.

Adrian Frode

Adrian was again knocked back by his opponent as sand began to rain down on him due to Spencer's own battle, which was going about as well as Adrian's. It was frustrating to say the least, out of his many attacks on Calder not a single one could really be considered a success, the albino harbinger was more than a match for Adrian. Calder and his partner were not like the run-of-the-mill, low ranking harbinger foot soldiers that Adrian had come into contact with in his few encounters with the group - these two were at a whole new level.

Adrian ran forward fainting to his right and then slashing to the left with his sword, a move that Calder once again blocked with relative ease. Adrian wouldn't have it this time though; he ducked under the interlocked swords, shifting his grip accordingly and tried to elbow his opponent in the head. Calder countered by sweeping Adrian's feet out from under him causing him to drop to his knees, he then tried to bring the handle of his sword down on Adrian's head. Adrian defended himself by rolling onto his back and kicking the harbingers leg out from under him with a blow that would have shattered a mortal's bone.

Calder fell back onto his back
Got you! I finally got you! Adrian leapt to his feet and plunged his sword down towards Calder who blocked the charcoal blade with his blue one. He then rolled to his left, flinging Adrian's sword away from him and climbing to his feet.

"Better" the white haired warrior taunted "But not good enough." Adrian dashed to his side grabbing his swords from the ground and hurling it at Calder, he then followed up by running at Calder form behind the projectile. Again he was bested though; Calder deflected Adrian's weapon with his own in a circular motion, whipping the leg he wasn't standing on up in a kick that collided with the side of Adrian's head and sent him rolling in the direction his sword and flown. Adrian struggled back to his feet, a terrible ringing in his head from the kick.

Adrian stumbled over to his sword and picked it up from the ground, turning to face Calder in a defensive stance, only to be surprised by a large group of arrows engulfed in an eerie blue flame flying at him. Calder had grabbed a group of arrows from his quiver and, enhancing them with the magical flame, hurled them in Adrian's direction. Adrian sliced several from the air but was forced to dive out of the way due to the number and wide dispersal of projectiles. He rolled onto his feet, still suffering intense pain in his head and panting heavily.

What do I have to do to beat this guy. He looked over to Spencer fight, which was much closer to his own now due to their continuous movement to see Spencer lying on the ground, clearly alive and concious but not in a good way to say the least. This is really bad, if I take another hit to my head my vision will probably blur or I'll see double or worse case scenario pass out and Spencer is getting demolished too... not to mention there's still a demon on the loose. We are so screwed.

Kalek Noire - Chapter 2

Kalek looked up from the area he had teleported to. A dark, abandoned storeroom. It was dark outside, but car lights still made New York City look like day. The shifting shadows would assist him at least, and he'd be nearly undetectable once he was off the ground level. The specially crafted blade in his gauntlet assured him of that. The modified blade had a sharp hook on it, ideal for quickly climbing all sorts of material. He found a window near an alleyway, and slipped through quickly. His training allowed him to silently enter the alleyway unnoticed, where he nearly tripped over the legs of a homeless man. The man's eyes stared mournfully up at Kalek, most likely thinking he was some sort of angel of death. Kalek tossed the man a gold coin. It was fake, but the man needent know that. Kalek quickly scaled the building, coming to a rest at the top. Time to locate that abnormal magic.

Kalek instantly felt the abnormal tingling that warned him of high-power magic. It seemed to be coming from a large cruise ship out at sea. It wasn't that far, and Kalek could already see plenty of boats that could easily be used to get to it. Kalek began running, and leapt off the building. Below him, he could see the homeless man looking up at him with a mixture of gratitude and amazement. In a flash, Kalek was once again on top of the next building, taking the most direct rout to the cove that the cruise ship resided in.

Masato Ryu - Chapter 2 - Ambushed!

One by one, the Harbinger clones attacked. Masato, assessing the situation, brandished his weapons and went on the defensive, blocking the first, dodging the second, and flipping over the third, allowing himself out of the ring. He tried using the clone for momentum, using his hand to shove off from him, but his hand passed through as though nothing was there. Pressing their attacks, all four moved in quickly, not giving Masato a chance to breathe.

"Too many attackers," he thought to himself, "and they're more powerful than I am." He kept trying, but he let his guard down for an instant. Unfortunately, they found it that quickly too, as a claw swooped in and gashed Masato on his side. It hurt bad, but he wasn't going to give them the satisfaction of hearing him yell in pain. From that attack, the others pressed even harder, knowing he was weakened. As claws connected with flesh, the pain was finally too much to bear. Masato was bleeding from his left side, back, chest, and arms. He yelled out in pain through gritted teeth as he felt a foot collide with his chest, sending him across the room.

The Harbinger laughed and shook his head, "You disappoint me, boy. I had thought fighting a Reaper would be a challenge. I've barely broken a sweat with you. Stand up, so I can finish you off, weakling!" The Harbinger and clones moved in quickly. Masato, surprisingly, grabbed his blades and ran at them, fighting them off as best he could. Only when he saw his blades pass through the neck of a clone without hurting him did he realize the solution to the fight: only by hurting the real harbinger could stop the clones, maybe even make them disappear.

Masato moved in and got really lucky. He spun in the air and landed in a crouched position, slicing the harbinger's chest with a blade. The Harbinger staggered back a couple of steps as he lost concentration and the clones disappeared. As Masato was getting back up, though, the Harbinger came forward with another powerful kick, sending Masato through the glass doors that opened up to a balcony. Masato kept going, though, right over the edge of the railing. Fortunately, he was still aware enough to grab the rail before he fell. He struggled to bring himself back up when the Harbinger slowly walked forward, smiling, almost like savoring this moment.

Spencer - Chapter 2

------------------------------------------------------------------

Spencer tried to pull himself from out of the pit of sand that he lay in the center in. His chest had an aching pain from the harbinger's heel-drop. Debris was in the air and obscuring his view entirely. As he shifted his weight to his hands to lift himself up, he felt the heel hit him square in the throat, hard enough to push him back down to his back although not nearly as hard as the previous hit, which would have probably killed him if he took another hit like that.

The girl shifted her weight to his chest, holding him down firmly, and began to laugh again. He had lost this fight and it might even be the last time he ever saw the light of living day again as he started to savor each moment she spared him.

"My brother... You think you were protecting me but really you were just there for show!" she pushed a decent amount of her weight into her foot and kicked him halfway out of the pit they were currently in. "You're a pathetic excuse for a brother. You've given up too easily and this fight was BORING!"

She slowly walked toward Spencer's damaged body. She seemed to be taking to much time to kill him so maybe it wasn't in her intentions. Either she was being really merciful, going to kill him slowly, or didn't intend to kill him at all. Spencer slowed his breathing and listened intently to what she had to say, ready to attack once he had caught his breath.

"Do you want to know what happened back in Britain?" she said with an amused look on her face. As Spencer flashed a bewildered stare, she returned the gesture with a sadistic grin and began to crack her fist, halting her assault. "YOU BETRAYED US!" she dashed at him with unbelievable speed and pulled her fist back for a hard swing but stopped promptly, looking at the shiny object Spencer held.

He was holding up the coin that he had kept over the years from her and she halted for a moment to grasp the object and examine it in disbelief right in front of him. Spencer didn't take advantage of her attention being elsewhere and stared in hope and longing that she would return to the sister he knew and helped him. She looked down at him and glared in a look mixed with contempt with a tinge of guilt and tossed the coin at him.

"That coin..." she looked at him calmly before her rancor returned. "I ought to destroy that meaningless token." Spencer clutched the coin to his chest and slowly rose to his feet. Leaning from side to side to maintain his balance. He began to stumble side to side, nearing her and when he was within arm's proximity, he raised his right hand in a closed fist and his left held up the coin.

"STOP LYING! You're going to tell me that my short-lived life was for nothing?! That all I did for you was worthless and just spit on it?" He tightened his fist around the coin and warped behind her and lifted her by her leg, pushing her off balance. This was by no means a skilled attack but unpredictable even to the harbinger. "If you're not going to come with me, then I'm either going to return home in critical condition or I'm going to break every bone in your body and drag you back with me!"

Camillia Abbott -chapter 2- Backup

Telepathy
Thoughts

Camillia sighed brushing a hand through her wavy curled red-orange hair. It was her day off today and she was bored silly. She hated it when it was her day off. Why do they have to give us breaks she thought frowning as she mixed the herbs she held into a pot of hot water. Stirring a few times she smiled as it got to the right consistency, the poison was done. Great now to just apply it to the blade she picked up her steel sword, that she had cleaned of all poisons the night before and dipped it in the liquid. This particular poison caused eventual Paralysis after a short time if the blade scratched the target, if the target was injected with more of the poison death was the result. A knock on her door interrupted her from her train of thought and she turned putting her sword in it's scabbard. What is it she asked opening the door to face a reaper who she didn't remember his name, but knew he was a newer one, not yet sent on missions yet.

"I was told to deliver this to you" the boy said handing Camillia a slip of paper.

Thank you she said turning and shutting the door before opening the slip of paper. Hmm, been called as backup for Masato in Vatican City, sounds promising she thought changing into her mortal realm outfit and putting her hair up. Going to the portal she had a sense of foreboding but ignored it. Stepping out onto the sidewalk she made her way towards the Vatican blending in easily with the mortals when she saw Masato hanging from a balcony Good thing they sent backup she thought shaking her head and picking up the pace. She made her way into the building quickly and ran quickly toward the room with the balcony. Spotting The Harbinger making his way towards Masato she sneered. Moving quickly she swung her blade at The Harbinger's back but the man swung around and blocked her sword with one of the blades on his claws. Hasn't anyone taught you to watch your back?

Adrian Frode

Adrian coughed and spluttered as he hit the ground, having suffered a kick to his chest. He had yet again been outmatched by his harbinger opponent, this time attempting to cut upwards with a large swing he had received a single, strong kick to his chest and hit the ground hard. Calder then thrust his own weapon downward forcing Adrian to roll onto his side, the attack though caught his right arm and punctured the limb. Adrian howled in pain as he was pinned to the ground, the sand getting stained by his blood.

Calder kicked Adrian in the side shattering at least two of his ribs
"Had enough Reaper?". Adrian responded by kicking his legs up and knocking his enemy back, he then stood up, slowly and shakily getting to his feet and ripping his enemies weapon out of the ground as he did so.
"No... I'm just getting warmed up". Adrian pulled the blue blade from his arm and hurled it at its owner before picking his own up and preparing to run at Calder. the harbinger had other idea though as he ran forward, catching his weapon, and slamming the hilt of the sword into Adrian's head sending him to his knees. He then followed by delivering a kick to the side of his head which knocked him several feet to the side, causing a splay of blood-covered dirt to fly up.

Adrian's vision darkened and blurred as he fell in a heap
I'm probably going to die... what a strange thought after having lived so much longer than any normal person. Adrian's heart sank, he knew he was beaten but he was determined to do his job. Adrian began to push himself to his feet, for what would quite possibly be the last time.

Masato Ryu - Chapter 2 - Rescued

Were his eyes playing tricks on him? There was another, a female, attacking the Harbinger. Was she another Reaper sent to assist? It didn't matter: he was in her debt. Fortunately, this distracted the Harbinger, causing him to turn away from the balcony. Masato took this opportunity to slowly climb back up. As he spilled back onto the balcony floor, he saw the Harbinger move in.

The Harbinger, blocking the girl's sword, laughed as he shoved her away. "Another fool dares to combat me?" he sneered right back, "Maybe I'll have an actual fight this time." Once again, he created his clones and quickly surrounded her, like he did with Masato earlier. They slowly stalked her, looking for her weak spots.

Masato, weakened from his injuries, called out to the girl, "His clones can't be damaged, but they can hurt you. Hit the original with a strong attack and the clones will disappear." The Harbinger paid him no mind as all four of them closed in on her, brandishing their claws against her.

Camillia Abbott -chapter 2- Poison

Telepathy
Thoughts

The Harbinger laughed as he blocked her attack sneering right back at her. "Another fool dares to combat me? Maybe I'll have an actual fight this time." he created clones the surrounded her. dang-it

"His clones can't be damaged, but they can hurt you. Hit the original with a strong attack and the clones will disappear." Masato called out to her and Camillia nodded in reply. at least I have my eye on the original. she smirked a tight grip on the handle of her sword. a scratch will do, I'll let Masato finish him if I can just paralyze him with that thought in mind Camillia waited, her move had to be done at the right moment. Though it wasn't as easy as she thought. One of the clones swung his claws at her and she jumped to the side only to be struck in the back by another one of them. The pain ripped through her and a choked sound made it's way out of her throat. If she still had her tongue she probably would have screamed.

Frowning Camillia tried to dodge another attack her eyes still on the real Harbinger only to be struck in the back of the leg making her go down to one knee. Wincing she glared at the Harbinger I'm done playing nice lunging forward she stabbed her sword forward just as she was struck again in the back, but she was lucky. The blade barely scratched the real Harbinger's arm and the clones disappeared. Looking up ignoring her pain Camillia smirked because she was the only one in the room who knew what the scratch would do.

Luka Sokolov - Chapter 2-2: Failure

Luka was beginning to breathe heavily, which was not a good sign. He can't have been running for more than a good 15 minutes but it was beginning to feel like an eternity. Apparently one of his pursuers agreed, since he heard one say, "Enough with this game of cat and mouse, I will end this now!" He heard one set of footsteps stop running behind him and he could only assume it was the female harbinger who had spoken. The next thing he heard was the sound of electricity crackling and gathering. Not good! Luka dove to the side off the roof he was on and landed on another with a roll, hearing the sound of a lighting bolt fly through the air, missing him. This was bad. They had a magic user with them, so simply running was no longer an option. Luka looked around quickly in an attempt to find someplace he could lose them, but they were too close behind. If only he were faster... Ah-hah! An imaginary light bulb went bright over his head. Luka changed direction, now with a destination in mind, and continued running while dodging the lightning bolts as best as he could, thankful that his gifted perception didn't end with his eyes.

After some time, Luka finally reached his destination; or at least as close to it as he needed. He turned around, sure that he was at the very edge of the building he was on, sorely hoping that the teleporting harbinger didn't have access to levitation powers too. He held out his crossbow and the weapon-wielding harbingers stopped in their tracks. Soon the female harbinger caught up and gave a sadistic grin. "So, you finally decided to stop running, huh, you little bunny rabbit!" Luka frowned. So first I was a bird, then I was a mouse, and now I'm a rabbit? Will you harbingers make up your minds about what animal I am?! Luka aimed his crossbow at her, but didn't shoot. "If you shoot me, they kill you. If you don't, I kill you. Either way, you lose!" She lifted her hands and around them began forming the familiar crackling electricity.Wait for it... The other harbingers stayed still, each of them afraid of being shot if they moved but knowing very well that they'd live if they just waited. Luka himself smiled at his own plan. He had run them in a few circles to stall for this moment, he just needed a little longer. Wait for it... The female harbinger began the motion of pointing her hands forward, ready to unleash her attack. Unfortunately for her, he didn't let her. "It's over, rea-" Her banter was cut short by an arrow between the eyes. As the other harbingers began charging towards him, he heard the sound of his ride approaching. Everything seemed to be going in slow motion. Luka turned and leapt off the building, landing with another roll on a speeding train. He ran to the front of it, and only then did he turn around to flash a smile at the remaining enemies. They decided to jump on after him, and a light chuckle escaped Luka's lips as he saw that one of the three didn't make it. The best part is that unless that teleporting bastard wants a train to the face, he won't be coming behind me. Things were turning in his favor.

Luka reloaded his crossbow as they approached and was able to take out yet another foe, and the final one jumped off the side knowing he wouldn't be able to reach him quickly enough. It was finally just Luka alone. He sat down and took a few deep breaths, then took a thin metal box out of his quiver. He knew that if he was going to face the teleporting harbinger that a regular arrow wouldn't cut it. He had one of his friends set it up with a magical lock that was opened when he said a specific set of words. "Прости, мама." The case opened with a click and Luka immediately felt the drain of energy. Inside were his "utility arrows". He reached inside and grabbed one of the red-tipped ones; one of his explosive arrows. He purchased them from Earth, but they were too technologically advanced for him to use them regularly, so he kept them locked away just in case. There was no way that harbinger could escape the blast radius from this without knowing it was coming in advance. Luka loaded his crossbow with it, feeling as if his energy were leaking through an imaginary hole inside him, and waited.

For a few moments, all seemed peaceful. He started letting himself believe that he had won this little bout and was now free to go help Nox, but not long after he started to think that, he was proven wrong. The train passed through a tunnel, but when it reached the other side Luka was thrown off it by a powerful wind. As he fell through the air, another blast tossed him high into the air before yet another thrust him downward. He hit the ground hard and immediately felt a sharp pain throughout his entire body, but it was especially bad in his right leg. He found himself unable to move it. Looking around frantically, Luka saw that he was near an alleyway and crawled into it, thinking only of the need to cover his back side. His biggest concern was the teleporter, not this new mysterious wind user, no matter how strong he was. Soon he reached the end of the alley, surrounded by walls at every direction except upwards and ahead with only one arrow and a nearby dumpster at his disposal. Then he heard it; the unforgettable voice of the teleporter.

"What did I say about shooting our people?" The harbinger stepped into the alleyway and stood there with half a dozen other harbingers behind him. "I thought I could just leave you to that group, but I guess I should have expected as much from you, Mr. Warehouse-Reaper." One of the harbingers behind him stepped forward, presumably to land the finishing blow. "It was a stupid mistake, but it won't happen again." The teleporter took a much harsher tone as he said that. Luka lifted his crossbow. "I'm going to make sure that this time they finish you. Oh, and just so you know, my name is Attano and this is your executioner Zephyros. Goodbye, reaper."

"Nice to meet you, my name's Luka Sokolov." With that, Luka let his arrow fly, aiming toward the center of the group. BOOM! A flash and a cloud of heat and debris consumed the harbingers. Luka was knocked back and gained several cuts, but he immediately struggled and climbed into the dumpster. This way he would be hidden from Attano or any of the other harbingers if they escaped that explosion. Regardless, there was no way he would be able to defeat any of them in combat in his condition. As much as it pained him to do so, he began to create a portal back to Limbo. He could only hope now that Nox managed to complete the mission. Nay, that he managed to survive.
_________________________

Luka immediately felt the familiar dry air of his home. He took a moment to lay there, a pile of torn flesh and broken bones. He had failed the mission and there was little hope that Nox could handle whatever threat was sent his way in addition to Attano alone. Luka struggled to get up, naively hoping that he could "tough it out" and help Nox, but after excruciating pain he collapsed back on the ground. I really am useless... He began to cast the numbing spell over himself as he began to think about what he would tell the Grim Reapers as to his failure. The response was simple, though. The harbingers had new recruits and a reaper may be dead all because he wasn't good enough. They were wrong to trust him with that mission. Tears began to form in Luka's eyes in anger at himself. Wallowing in self pity... How pathetic... He finished casting the spell and began the journey of hobbling to Dr. Krieg's place once again.

Kalek Noire
Chapter 2
Part Two

Kalek glanced down at the large throng of daily traffic from his perch, a shadowed hollow on the roof of a skyscraper. It didn't seem any different, save one thing. His Eagle Vision, a sense that took years to learn and many more to perfect, was notifying him of a figure among the throngs of pedestrians. She wasn't very different from the rest of the crowd, if one excluded the powerful aura of magic surrounding her. Kalek mentally marked her position, and dropped down an alleyway.

It was a good five minutes before Kalek could actually catch up with this lady, and he bided his time. Patience was one of the things that assassins needed more than anything. Wait for the right moment before revealing yourself. Kalek did get a few strange looks from those in the crowd, but he ignored them. His target was clear, and no-one else was important to him at the moment. This did no mean that he wasn't aware of his surroundings, he was just focusing most of it on the glowing figure in front of him.

After many minutes of careful observation, Kalek did come to the conclusion that the female was another Realer, and would not act hostile. He caught up, and fell in step beside her. He then bluntly said, "You're Destiny correct? If so, I suggest that you take a look out at the cove."

Of course, Kalek wasn't even sure if Destiny was able to detect magic, he figured it was an ability that came with being a Reaper.

Masato Ryu - Chapter 2 - Spared?

The Harbinger soon started to feel the effects of the poison that coated Camillia's blade. However, instead of worrying about the attack, he simply laughed. "Poison? You fight dirty, girl," he grinned as he was slowly bringing his claws back up. Masato suddenly ran towards the two, blades at the ready. As the Harbinger was ready to strike again, Masato intercepted the claws with his weapons. The Harbinger looked to Masato, his face expressionless. If he was surprised, he didn't show it.

Masato took this moment of distraction and connected with a swift roundhouse kick to the face, causing the Harbinger to stumble back a little. Feeling his adrenaline kick in, Masato suddenly rushed at him, shoving him backwards onto the balcony. He again capitalized on this moment of weakness and used a spinning back jump kick to send the Harbinger over the edge of the balcony. Masato landed on his feet and immediately crouched down, the adrenaline rush petering out to make way for the injuries to start hurting him again.

Looking over the edge of the balcony himself, Masato noted that the foe that attacked them was nowhere to be seen. No blood or anything. He then turned to Camillia, "I thank you for your assistance. You came at just the right time." He stood as straight as he could and gave a slight bow to her. "I am Masato Ryu. And you are...?"

Camillia Abbott -chapter 2 - End of battle

Telepathy
Thoughts

"Poison? You fight dirty, girl," The Harbinger smiled as he slowly brought his arms up and Camillia's eyes widened. It's not in full affect yet she thought closing her eyes as The Harbinger went to strike but the sound of metal opening her eyes she saw Masato standing above her having blocked the strike before he attacked, kicking The Harbinger in the face and shoving him towards the balcony before sending The Harbinger over it.

"I thank you for your assistance. You came at just the right time." he stood straight as best as he could and gave her a bow. "I am Masato Ryu. And you are...?"

Camillia Abbott, I was sent as backup when your partner never showed she stood wincing slightly at the pain in her back and knee. I thank you for saving me, it seems for The Harbinger's I'll need to make a stronger poison

Destiny Saviouer :: NYC, NY, USA, Earth
Chapter Two :: Arcane Radar

"You're Destiny correct? If so, I suggest that you take a look out at the cove."

Destiny barely glanced at the person that spoke, but she had stopped walking. She had noticed the person hopping among the rooftops, and the spiritual trace of a Reaper was hard to miss. It was lucky that people wrote off interesting persons in New York City as simply being strange or eccentric. This Reaper didn't seem to know how to act casual around the humans.

"So, then, you're Kalek?" Destiny asked in a monotone voice, making it sound more like a statement. She said this without looking at the Reaper, preferring to glance at the cove as he had instructed. There was certainly powerful magic there, and Destiny had noticed it, but she had been paying more attention to a larger, spiritual presence. It wasn't quite so much a source of magic as it was something genetic, something lost among a peoples that had disappeared millennia ago. Regular Reapers would be unable to detect it, and Destiny had no doubt that Kalek hadn't noticed it.

Destiny, however, was a spiritualist. Even in her life, she was a seer. She could see souls in all their myriad forms. She could also detect a fellow Atlantean with ease.

There was no doubt that this Atlantean could also detect her.

Could the Atlantean be whom she thought it was? It wasn't impossible. Nothing was impossible. If this Atlantean had any sort of arcane signature, they were very adept at concealing it. That wasn't a very common skill, even among Reapers. Destiny could do it, to an extent, but due to her line of work she hadn't had too much reason to perfect it. Only other magical creatures and some gifted mortals could detect an arcane signature, so it never really came into play on a regular everyday mission.

Destiny focused on the signature at the cove. It's soul wasn't as impressive as the one she was tracking, but the magic that emanated from it showed it to be a force to be reckoned with. Neither of these signatures were to be taken lightly, but Destiny couldn't help but to focus on the Atlantean. It struck a personal blow that Destiny had experienced a handful of times since the fall of her homeland, and she planned on pursuing it.

If it was who she thought it was, she had to pursue it. There was, however, also a chance that this presence would pursue her. It would all depend on its goals, Destiny supposed.

"The presence at the cove is but one of the forces that I am detecting. Don't worry if you can't detect the second—I wouldn't expect you to be able to. Whoever it is can conceal their magical aura, but their soul is still plain for me to see," Destiny stated casually, looking as if she was making everyday conversation. "They seem to be on a path to intercept the signature at the cove, so that may as well be the best place to start our search. Are you ready?"

With that, Destiny dissolved into the crowd, effortlessly making her way through towards the cove. If Kalek had managed to follow her in the first place, he would have no difficulty keeping pace.
