Nudity and Nude Art

I've been wanting to post this thread for a while, because I am very interested in hearing all of your opinions concerning this matter.

Topic at hand: Nudity and Nude Art

A lot of us are on dA and/or have been to dA many times. Most of us, actually. And if you browse dA you are more than likely to find many profiles jack-filled with nudity, in the form of art. What is your view on nudity? Do you think it's wrong for a girl/guy to post nude pictures of themselves/others? Do you think it can be a form of art? Are you at all engaged in this art, and how so/much?

Personally, I don't mind it at all. If a person is okay with showing themselves nude, why should others object? If other people don't like it, or at the very least mind seeing nude pictures, avoid them. 99% of them are tagged mature and hidden on dA anyways (And other sites). I can't deny that at times, I do admire the art. The human body is an elegant and beautiful thing, no problem with showcasing it as a form of art in my own view.

However, I would never, ever, EVER, post pictures of myself nude xD I'd rather be burnt alive.

Alright, this topic usually brings a lot of debate and at some point it might get harsh. Try to keep everything civil and mind each others' opinions with the utmost respect. Discuss.

I honestly think if it's legal and a person wants to do it of their own free will, they should be able to post nude pic. I myself would never do so but then again, Im not comfortable exposing myself to the masses. Though the one thing people need to remember is once it's out there, it's out and you can never get it back. I dont think nudity is wrong, we are born nude after all, so it's not my right to tell a person they cannot do so, but they should be careful and really be comfortable showing themselves to the world and really be prepared if they post a nude picture. Again I stress that this should be legal, I dont agree with minors posting nude pics of themselves.

Nudity clearly can be art. (Look up Michelangelo's David or Botticelli's The Birth of Venus for famous historical pieces of nude art.) Those are a sculpture and painting, but photography is just a different medium and I don't see how that might matter. Since photographs show real people of course you ought to have their permission, but aside from that, yeah, fine. Go ahead. As long as you think about the possible consequences and are okay with them.

I never minded nudity. Well, why lie? I've actually played nude with a couple friends before .-.
I know, it might sound wrong. But I'm Lesbian, I don't feel like my body is mine and I have no problem showcasing it. I've never taken any photos though, I might though, some day. I don't know right now, with my new sexuality appearing last year, my whole sex life has turned upside down. I'd been with boys before (If you know what I mean (:) and I enjoyed it. But last year the satisfaction started wearing off and right now I'm lost in between sexes.

So like I said, my body doesn't really feel like it's mine, so I'm not the best judge on this matter.

It's not so much art as it is porn, borderline porn, or people who want to draw attention to themselves. I'm sure some people like 'true' nude art, and yeah I suppose it can be a form of art, people can legally post nude pictures of themselves, but I hate it. I might get fleck for that but oh well. It's just gross in my eyes (natural as it is) and the same things can usually be represented with everything covered up, but there are trillions of circumstances and meanings art can have so there have to be some instances where it fits. I just don't like it, particularly on deviantArt. Of course the old paintings mentioned above have way more merit than most things on dA xD

In my high school art class we had to draw live nudes.

So, yes. Not sure if it is a "form of art" as you say, or just subject matter. I'm leaning toward subject matter.

I've heard of this though, in college, not high school ;____; It is a very interesting art though, to draw the naked human body.

Wasn't a common thing. It was an arts-based high school and we pushed for it. Adult models

Its just the human body, it doesn't have to be sexual so quite frankly there is nothing wrong with being seen nude if a person is comfortable about it. So I see no problem with using the human form as artwork.
There is nothing wrong with NON-SEXUAL nudity at any age (that is the whole foundation of naturism). I feel that our taboos against nudity are getting out of hand, in some European countries it really is treated as just that, something completely natural and not sexual at all.

Whilst I personally would not expose myself in this fashion any time soon I'm open minded and interested in these ideals as a topic if not anything else.

Tbh,i feel disgusted whenever i see a nude anime pic so if i saw a real nude people i think i might faint Lol..seriously,it's not art IMO..bodies aren't for share specially when people stare for a sexual reasons....i don't like that kind of pics i don't even stand em! >.<

Fair enough, that's your opinion. But why is that? You say it's not for sharing yet clothes are a human invention not an aspect of nature and even then many cultures around the world don't possess these taboos. Don't get me wrong I'm not criticising I'm just curious. :)

Well, yeah. I agree there. I don't get the anime and cartoon stuff.

Those don't seem artsy to me, just smutty.

Hmm,i'll tell you! but first,answer this honestly...can you imagine yourself doing that? i mean..would you stand for someone ....eh sorry to say that "would you stand nude in front of people to draw you or to stare at you telling yourself it's okay it's an art?!

Just because we wouldn't all be comfortable doing this doesn't mean it's bad. I don't like public speaking, but I don't think it's bad for people to do.

There's really nothing bad about the naked human body if people are respectful, just like most things in life.

this is my point..when i read the thread first thing came to my mind was myself... i asked myself would i do that? i answered impossible! i won't do that because i simply won't respect myself if i did i won't be who i am and if you lose your self respect you lose all respect!..i don't see it as an art but that's my own opinion...people are different from one to another but i think that what you don't like to do yourself you won't like to see other people do!....Arts are arts no argue but nudity! Body is a valued private property you can't just share it with anyone "you don't actually know how they think and what are their intentions and minds!"

allow me to ask you...why don't you like to do it if you think it's art?

Nudity is not art. It might be to others, but not me. This reminds me, I'm quite ****ing tired of seeing Rule 34 on Danbooru and others.

^ TBH,i hear lots of people talk about rule No.34 but never knew what is that mean....what is that mean?
