Appearance:
Yuri is pale, frail, and overall weak-looking. He is barely 4' 6" and weighs in at a measly 68 lbs. There are dark circles under his sunken in, dull brown eyes, and his face has a jagged, bony facial structure. His brown hair is long and messy, and he has no facial hair to speak of. Yuri has long "piano fingers" that are quite dexterous and are an advantage when it comes to doing more precise work. Most of his appearance can be explained by the fact that he often forgets to eat anything during the day because he is so focused on his work and that he stays up excessively late studying, researching, and doing more work. It doesn't help that he doesn't care about his appearance at all.

Yuri often just wears the first thing he picks out of his closet, but often wears a long (a little too long) scientist's lab coat of his father's when he's alone or doing work. The only pieces of attire he actually cares about is his glasses which he tries to keep in perfect condition and his large backpack that carries all sorts of gadgets and parts.

Personality:
The only person Yuri feels he can be himself around is his father. Around most people he is usually very timid, preferring to keep interaction to a minimum. He wants to make friends, but he is under constant fear that his alternate personality will take over and go berserk so he distances himself from people.

Yuri knows very little about his alternate identity, but he knows that so far it only comes out during extremely stressful situations. Thus, he makes a habit of trying to stay away from those kinds of situations, and if he feels he is approaching one and cannot escape it he will tell the surrounding people of this in an attempt to defuse the situation. There is not much he can do physically to stop such situations considering his frail build. Because of all this, he will not save a person if they are in danger.

Aside from spending time with his dad, Yuri 's favorite thing to do is messing with tech and gadgets. He is capable of going on and on about things such as the inner workings of a pokeball or his theories on possible ways they could be improved. He also knows quite a bit about pokemon themselves and methods to train them, knowledge that his father acquired from working in the battle company. Concerning his feelings on the creatures themselves, Yuri feels safe befriending pokemon thanks to the pokeball locks that he has invented, keeping his "psychotic" alternate self from having access to them. He enjoys being with his father's pokemon and tells himself it makes up for his lack of human companions.

Koukan, his alternate persona, is always bitter and cold hearted (but isn't near as insane as Yuri believes he is). He believes that the way to get what one wants in life is through force and dominion over the weak. He also believes that friends and allies will always stab you in the back so he actively avoids relationships of any kind. His enemies often underestimate him because of how small and frail he is, but they'd be surprised what survival instinct and experience can do. He will fight until death and punish his foes within an inch of their lives.

History:
Yuri was born in Castelia City, Unova as the son of the Battle Company chief researcher. His mother always resented Yuri because he was the result of an unplanned pregnancy and caused his father to work many more hours to be able to support the whole family on his own. Thus, she would blame him for all the issues that would eventually arise in her increasingly fractured relationship with her husband, claiming that they were happy before he showed up. As he grew, Yuri became the victim of abuse at the hands of his mother. This included beatings, insults, and eventually occasional sexual abuse. It became unbearable for Yuri, who was always alone at home with only his mother for company, and all he would think about was wishing that it would stop. He would wish upon shooting stars, the fountain in the middle of the city, and even on his clock when it struck 11:11 to not have to suffer it anymore.

At age five, Yuri started to black out during his mother's fits of rage. When he regained consciousness, the episode would be over and while he kept the bruises and scars, he would have no memory of the events that put them there. He didn't know what was happening, but he didn't care. All he knew was that he no longer had to face the suffering. This was the beginning of his dissociative identity disorder, better known as multiple personality disorder. The truth was that when Yuri blacked out, another persona that was created deep within his mind would take his place and suffer the beatings for him. This new identity had its own thoughts and memories independent of Yuri's, a personality that would become dark and warped as it suffered the countless abuse in Yuri's stead. The pain at this point came not only from his mother, but included bullies at school as well.

In the following years, Yuri himself began slowly recovering from the trauma as he no longer had to suffer from it, and in his spare time would read his father's research notes and books. He learned and understood, despite his young age, and now held dreams of following in his father's footsteps. The alternate Yuri (which had taken on the name Koukan from a show that was on TV the first time he appeared), however, became miserable and bitter, eventually realizing that it seemed those who used force were always on top. Because of this, the next time Yuri was assaulted by his mother, Koukan appeared and this time fought back. Now, when Yuri regained consciousness, he saw his mother on the floor covered in bruises instead of himself. Confused and scared, he fled to his room and locked himself in the rest of the night.

From then on, the abuse from his mother stopped. She didn't yell at him, talk to him, or even look him anymore. The days passed in silence until one day she simply left. Yuri's father always refused to listen whenever Yuri told him of what she did, but after that fateful night, he was forced to face the truth. He never said anything to her about it, though, because he didn't know what to say and after her departure it was too late. Guilty for his denial, he devoted the following years to spending whatever time he could outside work with his son. He would teach Yuri everything he could about the technology that fascinated the boy so.

Yuri himself was shaken by the event but otherwise recovered from it and enjoyed his newfound time with his dad. Bullying at school stopped as well, again at the hands of the now excessively harsh and violent Koukan, and despite the trouble it got him in with the teachers, Yuri appreciated it. It was a scary thought, though, knowing that such a monster would appear whenever he blacked out, so he tried to stay away from making friends (as much as he wanted to) out of fear that they were at risk of being hurt by his alternate identity. He thought it was okay, though because he could still spend time with his father.

Thanks to the things he was taught by his father, Yuri excelled in school and started doing research of his own, eventually managing to invent a few things including a pokeball lock that kept a pokemon from being released from the ball without inputting a simple touch sequence. He did not, however, have any aspirations of becoming a pokemon trainer. He was happy just doing what he loved; inventing and improving tech. His father wanted Yuri to experience all that came with being a trainer, though. All of his father's attempts to convince Yuri to start an adventure failed until one day a letter arrived in the mail for Yuri to go to the distant region of Celestia. This piqued his interest and after being reminded by his father that outsiders have never before been allowed in the region, Yuri finally agreed, eager to research the region first hand and learn some new things.

Other:
-Yuri is a technological genius and has been able to invent several things, most of which are pokeball attatchments. The ball lock mentioned above was created with the intention of keeping any pokemon he would ever have away from Koukan.
-The show on TV when Koukan got his name was the show Koukan Talk, which means Exchange Talk.​
