Definetly the second option.

I have to say, you should move the name/health boxes more closer to the pokemon; you'd probablly need to use new boxes though, but it would definetly look better.

Right now, it looks very odd that the health boxes are on the opposite side of the screen than the pokemon they represent.

Seems like a lot of wasted space, maybe use bigger health bars. Also, are there any attack animations in the rpg maker you're using? Is there any way to make some/add ones from hg/ss?

There are a few attack animations in, and I'm slowly adding more. Its just a nightmare getting them the same as in game.
So far there is:
Tackle (From essentials)
Scratch (From essentials)
Quick Attack (From essentials)
Thundershock (From essentials)
Struggle (From essentials)
Sand Attack (Both ally and opponent versions) (From essentials)
Leer (Both ally and opponent versions) (From essentials)
Growl (Both ally and opponent versions)
Leech Seed (Both ally and opponent versions) (From essentials)
Leech Seed drain health (From essentials)
Razor Leaf (Both ally and opponent versions) (From essentials)
Mean Look

The Health Boxes look awkward now because one side doesn't have a border. They would look better with a border.
They have a border now.

I know, i need to bring that sprite to the front

Wow, you're really going all out for this!

Maybe, you could extend the text box to the edge of the screen, just leaving it blank grey, to not have floating text boxes.

the new size looks good but there is lot of space wasted why don't you try making them a bit bigger?
EDIT: Move the Players pokemon HP Box and the grass place a little right, and make the opponents HP box a bit down and a little left that might do it to look it better.

I found some information that you may find useful; credits go to Skeetendo for this information:

In Pokémon Yellow, the player receives a special Pikachu that shows emotions, in a primitive form of the Happiness factor in G/S/C.

  • Gaining a level
    • +5 if current happiness < 100
    • +3 if current happiness < 200
    • +2 otherwise
  • Using, e.g., a Potion
    • +5 if current happiness < 100
    • +3 if current happiness < 200
    • +2 otherwise
  • Challenging a Gym Leader
    • +3 if current happiness < 100
    • +2 if current happiness < 200
    • +1 otherwise
  • Depositing in PC
    • −3 if current happiness < 200
    • −5 otherwise
  • Fainting
    • −1 (always)
There are two events in Pokémon Yellow that are based on its happiness. The first is on Pewter Museum's top floor—a man whose daughter wants a Pikachu will say different things based on how happy the player's is.
If happiness ≤ 100:
Your Pikachu looks untamed. May I have it for my daughter?
If happiness > 100:
I'd like to get that Pikachu off you, but it's too attached to you.
The other instance is in Cerulean City. The character Melanie will reward the player with a Bulbasaur if Pikachu's happiness is 147 or higher.

Okay, just wasn't sure if you needed accurate variables yet : )

Regarding the stats screen: Looking very nice! I'm hoping to see some more custom graphics though to fancy it up.
