Massive update! Update 4!
Saved last time at Blackthorn City, saved this time at the Pokemon League

  • After wondering what to do for 10 minutes I finally found out I'm supposed to go to GoldenRod City Radio Tower
  • Went in with a level 67 Buddy
  • Beat all the Rocket Grunts and scientists in there
  • Got the Underground Key
  • Went into the Underground
  • Beat the Rockets and Burglars
  • Beat Rocket CEO, obtained TM Lightscreen and got the Card Key
  • Went back in the Radio tower and unlocked the door
  • Beat some grunts and the 3 Rocket executives
  • Beat Giovanni
  • Got a congratz from the Radio tower owner guy and got the Rainbow Wing!
  • Went back to Ecruteak City and into the Tin Tower
  • Went through the annoying, confusing puzzle and finally met Ho-oh
  • Just killed it with Granbull because I had no use for it and didn't feel like buying 50 Ultra balls and save-stating for 30 mins
  • Left Ecruteak City and went back to Golden Rod to get HM06 Rock Smash
  • Re-organized my party and all my HM slaves, ditched some Pokes and taught HMs to others
  • Went back to Blackthorn City
  • Bought TM Ice Punch in the department store as it will be very helpful
  • Taught TM Ice punch to Buddy :)
  • Stocked up on some items
  • Taught TM Return to Granbull because it will have a higher Base power than Strength since Granbull's happiness is almost maxed out
  • Taught Strength to Shuckle :P
  • Went into the last gym and beat the puzzle easily
  • Took on Claire and OHKOed all her Pokes with either Ice Punch or Return
  • She nerd raged so she sent me on an errand instead of giving me the damn badge
  • I went into Dragon's Den, beat the 3 Dragon master people, obtained a useless Water Stone and got the Dragon Fang.
  • Finally Claire gave me the RISING BADGE
  • I headed on over to New Bark Town after stocking up on some repels
  • Got the Pikachu behind my house for the lulz
  • Went onto the next Route
  • Fought Amelia again and easily beat her with only Crunch :)
  • Went through the cave and then the onward routes.
  • Met that guy with the level 65 Milotic. Buddy OHKOEd it with Return :D
  • Kept going and eventually did the Pikachu stealing badges event
  • Got into the place before Victory Road
  • Got into Victory Road and spent 20 minutes going through the annoying puzzles
  • Found TM Earthquake! WOOOOO!
  • Taught Buddy Earthquake and forgot dig
  • Finally got through the puzzles and battled my rival "Theking" :)
  • Beat all of his Pokes despite him getting a lot stronger
  • Got into the Pokemon League
  • Stocked up on tons and tons of items that I'll never use
  • To be continued....

-went and trained in the desert
-went to petalburg, defeated norman, got surf
-went to route 119, beat team aqua at the weather institute, then to fortree, obtained the devon scope, defeated winona
-then mt pyre
-caught a wingull for fly
-flew to slateport...watched the submarine get stolen
-flew back to lilycove, defeated all the team aqua grunts at their hideout there
-my pupitar is now on level 52...
went down route 124 to get to mossdeep where I defeated the twins...and got the dive hm
-i caught a wailmer for hm's
-I went to the seafloor cavern to go stop team aqua again...but i forgot I needed strength so I flew to verdanturf and got it
-i taught strength to my wailmer
-invaded the seafloor cavern and beat all the team aqua people
-it started raining a little, flew to sootopolis, entered cave of origins,
-on way to fight kyogre pupitar evolved into tyranitar at lvl 56 (for earthquake)
-defeated kyogre...easily
-trained tyranitar to level 60
-easily defeated wallace
-went to the abandoned ship..obtained ice beam and taught it to tyranitar
-made it through victory road, healed up and started the elite four

Here's how the elite four went:
- Sidney: cacturne and shiftry went down with icebeams, sharpedo mightyena and absol went down with earthquakes

-Phoebe: all went down with crunch

-Glacia: all went down with rock slide

-Drake: all went down with ice beam

-Steven: skarmory-2rockslides, armaldo-2earthquakes, claydol- 1 crunch, cradily-1earthquake, metagross-2 earthquakes

they were all pretty easy, except metagross using meteor mash almost knocked me out...but tyranitar held on

Overall it was really easy, I mean he was only on level 68 and I beat everyone...I thought he would need to be on a higher level, but I guess not.

He's a psuedo legendary, what'd you expect. Try it with a weaker pokemon for a challenge.

Ive never had one before so i didnt know that...now that i do im going to try someone weaker...i just dont know who yet

If you want a weaker Pokemon, try out some of the UU tier (under used) or NU tier (never used) on this website. My second and third Ultimate Challenges came from the UU and NU tiers, respectively. They don't include fifth gen, unfortunately. If you want a real challenge, try a type with a lot of weaknesses to a lot of Gyms in that region, E.G. a Grass type in the Johto region (Flying, Bug, and Ice Gyms, plus Poison E4 member). Gimmick Pokemon, such as Wobbuffet, Unown, and Luvdisk, make for an interesting run as well. Those are my recommendations to you.

Hey, thanks for that...i think im going to go with miltank on fire red

Yeah, considering Tyranitar is a pseudo-legendary it isn't really a solo 'challenge'. I'm using an NU Pokemon, Granbull, and it's a challenge. I always stray away from OU or Pseudo-legendaries.

Pokemon Solo Run with Snubbull/Granbull in Shiny Gold X Finale!

Elite Four Will
  • I hit his Xatu with a crunch and it brought it down to low HP, but then he used a full restore.
  • I was able to hit it two more times and KO it.
  • Slowbro used Brick Break but it did Jack all, and I took it out with 2 crunches.
  • Exeggutor went down by two Ice punches.
  • Medicham was almost a problem but I KOed it with Return.
  • Jynx was 2HKOed by Crunch.

Elite Four Koga
  • His Forretress went down by two earthquakes.
  • Muk was KOed by one earthquake.
  • Crobat used swagger and I 2HKOed it with ice punch.
  • Venomoth was KOed by Return.
  • And Venusaur was OHKOEd by an Earthquake because Buddy was +2 from swagger :)

Elite Four Bruno
  • I assumed Bruno would be a fair challenge considering he used fighting types and rock types.
  • Hitmontop went down by one return after intimidate.
  • Hitmonlee swagger'd Buddy so he was at +1, I then OHKOed it with Return.
  • Hitmonchan was up next. Buddy hit himself in confusion and then took a STABBED sky uppercut to the face - but took it extremely well!
  • Buddy then KOes it with Return.
  • In comes Hariyama, a bulky mofo, which Buddy KOes with Return!
  • Machamp also goes down by one return.

Elite Four Karen
  • She sends in Umbreon - a physical beast, that lives with like 10 HP from a return!
  • She uses a Full Restore while I go for another Return.
  • I then KO it with Ice punch to save PP.
  • In comes Crawdaunt, which I KO with one Return.
  • She sends in Murkrow which I take out with Ice punch, then Houndoom is taken out with Earthquake.
  • Finally - in comes Shiftry. I'm able to 2HKO it with Ice Punch as it goes for Double team.

Champion Lance
  • Lance is now the only one left. I am now challenging the strongest trainer in all of Johto!
  • Gyarados is sent out, and I'm wondering what to do. Return would be STABBED, but it's physical and I'm -1. I eventually go with Return.
  • It doesn't OHKO, because I'm -1 and Gyarados is bulky as hell. It used Dragon Dance so I'm scared now.
  • As usual he uses a Full Restore as I go for another Return.
  • Next he uses Earthquake - which Buddy takes easily, and Buddy KOes it with Crunch.
  • Out comes mence and I know what kind of a monstrosity this thing can be with an awesome movepool and STAB outrage.
  • He uses double team and ugh, I miss Ice punch. Luckily he goes for it again and I hit this time.
  • One dragon down, 4 more to go. He sends out Dragonite and this thing is bulkier but not as physically oriented as mence - therefore he survives a 4x Ice punch to the face. He goes for Outrage and I live with 48 HP, then I take it out with crunch.
  • Next he sends out Charizard as I send out a fodder to heal up Buddy.
  • He kills my fodder and I send Buddy back out and go with Return. KO.
  • Next up is Aerodactyl. I go with Ice punch after taking an Earthquake easily. Ice punch will be a clean 2HKO so I go for it again, Aerodactyl is down and out.
  • He sends out Kingdra, his last Pokemon, but wait - he outsped me! He misses the Hydropump thankfully, since a STAB Hydro pump might have been able to take Buddy out with 94 HP. Buddy then OHKOes it with Return! It's finally over and I am victorious! Professor Oak and Mary (who the hell is Mary?) come in to congratulate me...

Plot Twist
  • ???:WHAT?!?
  • *crazy music starts playing*
  • Carlos: What's this? You've defeated the champion already? How could you? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO MY DREAM? It's time... It's time to settle this... Since you are the new champion, all I have to do is defeat you, right? Then.... LET'S END THIS CHAMPION!

Shiny Gold X Finale: Carlos Vs. Rossy
  • Metagross is sent out, and I'm immediately thinking it might be able to OHKO Buddy with Meteor Mash - so I go to a fodder.
  • It goes for a Hyper Beam, so I send back in Buddy to heal up and take it out with an Earthquake.
  • Snorlax is next. This thing is specially bulky, so I go with Return - he barely holds on! I go for Return again because I know the Full Restore is coming. This time it KOes -_-.
  • Altaria comes in - this thing will be extremely easy. I go with an Ice Punch and it OHKOes.
  • Next up is another Kingdra, I go for Return and it OHKOes it.
  • Now he sends out his ace.... Slowking.
  • I wonder if I should go for crunch, being super effective, or Return, being STABBED. Eventually I go for Return because Slowking's Special defense is a lot higher than it's physical defense.
  • His ace is down and out. Granbull and I are the victors.

The End of Shiny Gold X
  • Carlos: Noooooo......!! Hmm..... I don't understand... Why are you so strong? Is it because my captured Pokemon here in Johto are weak? Does it mean I should get other Pokemon? I thought I had a chance with them, but I was wrong... Listen you! You better be careful, because next time I won't be as weak! Next time, I'll present to you my real strength! So keep on training, because you'll need it! Hehehe, Till then, Rossy! Hahahahaha!
  • *walks out*

Next time.... I start my journey in a new region, with a new solo runner, and see what Carlos has in store for me then!

If you want a weaker Pokemon, try out some of the UU tier (under used) or NU tier (never used) on this website. My second and third Ultimate Challenges came from the UU and NU tiers, respectively. And considering 5th gen is out, it's not a good idea to pay attention to tier listings, as 5th gen changed them A LOT. And UU/NU Pokemon aren't always challenging to use in-game.

Also considering you used a pseudo-legendary, Metagross, you should be using your own tips.

I'm going for a completion of Pokemon Red with Grimer/Muk. Gamesharking it in on route 1.

First move will be learned at lvl 30... -_-

I'm waiting to give an update when I can post images. Until then, I have a question:

...Has anyone ever done the ultimate solo challenge with Magikarp?

And considering 5th gen is out, it's not a good idea to pay attention to tier listings, as 5th gen changed them A LOT. And UU/NU Pokemon aren't always challenging to use in-game.

Also considering you used a pseudo-legendary, Metagross, you should be using your own tips.

That's probably true, but I could honestly never find a single, complete and decisive list of 5th gen tiers. And since not many people are soloing Black/White, I figured it wouldn't matter too much. Also, I wasn't implying that all UU/NU Pokemon were challenging, but rather that some of them are. That's why I also threw in the last two ideas as extras; Pokemon with many weaknesses to Gyms (or many weaknesses overall) and gimmicks.

Also, considering that Metagross was my first run, I didn't really know too much about real challenges and, therefore, didn't know these tips, just like pawsjerm doesn't. /sass

My thinking then was that for the first 15 levels, Beldum sucks to train, so it would be tougher. Plus, think about having an Attack lowering Nature (in my Fire Red run and my White run, he had a Nature that weakened his Attack stat, which was more of a pain than I anticipated).

That reminds me of another idea: take a Pokemon that is mostly Attack based and run with it having an Attack lowering Nature. Same with Sp. Attack and Sp. Attack lowering Natures. The same can be done with movepools; if it has a mostly physical/special movepool, give it an Attack /Sp. Attack hindering Nature, respectively.

I'm waiting to give an update when I can post images. Until then, I have a question:

...Has anyone ever done the ultimate solo challenge with Magikarp?

Ironically, I have a friend IRL who was considering that. I don't know if he ever attempted it, but I assume it'd end up similarly to my Metagross run: it sucks for 15 levels, then turns into a breeze after evolution.

Of course, you'd probably have to hack in Tackle on level 5 or something.
