The Team, The Professor, Pokémon, And More -- July News Round-Up!

Many of the things fans have been speculating the most about have been revealed this month! Let's take a deeper look in, shall we?

The Villians -- Team Flare

  • One of the biggest topics of speculation has been revealed: This generations evil team is not Team DNA or something seemingly to do with genetics in its namesake, but Team Flare!
  • Their main motive is to become rich and make money. What methods the will take to do so we aren't quite sure of (although they are interested in making money off of reviving fossils!)
  • How Pokémon themselves will come into play for Team Flare's plans isn't known yet. Will they be like Team Rocket and try to steal and sell them? Will they just use them as another tool instead of a commodity in themselves? Discuss it here!

july_p04_04.jpg

Gym Leaders and the Professor!

  • This month's issue of CoroCoro gave us two new Gym Leaders to speculate about: Grant and Clemont. Although we don't know their types, we do know a few things!
    • Grant is an athlete who is into all sorts of sports such as mountain biking and rock climbing.
    • Clemont is a lover of science, and likes to invent things. He has a little sister named Bonnie.
  • Many fans were speculating that perhaps we would have another female professor this generation, but alas that is not the case. Meet Professor Sycamore!
  • Professor Sycamore, unlike the other professors, will challenge you to a battle every now and again. What do you think of him?

The Pokémon Search System, the Holo Caster, O-Powers and Photo Spots

  • A new system has been introduced into the games: Pokémon Search System (PSS). This new feature connects you with players around the world at all times. Trading and battling with other people just got much simpler! For an in-depth description of it, as well as discussion, visit this thread!
  • The Holo Caster is this generation's communication device. It will cast holograms (if the name didn't give that away!) that you will communicate with, from people like your four friends/rivals and Professor Sycamore!
  • O-Powers appear to be similar (if not almost identical) to Pass Powers introduced in the fifth generation. They are used to temporarily increase aspects of your journey (as well as other's journeys if you choose to use your O-Powers on them instead of yourself), such as stats and the catch rate of Pokémon.
  • There will be Photo Spots scattered throughout Kalos. These spots will have pretty scenery or will be interesting locations you'll be able to take pictures of! Just like a real camera, you'll have the ability to adjust the settings of the camera before you take the pictures (such as brightness, shutter speed, and aperature)!

New Pokémon, Mega Evolutions, Events, and more! - August News Roundup!

August had a surplus of news, the biggest of them being the new Mega Evolutions. Let's get down to it, shall we?

Introducing Mega Evolutions

Mega Evolution is a new method of evolving Pokémon. Not all Pokémon have the capability to mega evolve, but for those who can see a growth in strength and sometimes a change in ability and/or type. Unlike traditional evolutions, however, mega evolutions are not a permanent stage and can only be activated during battle by the use of special held items called Mega Stones and a trainer's Mega Ring (explained in the post above). It is also said that a special bond between trainer and Pokémon play an important role to mega evolution.

Mega Stones

There are different Mega Stones for different Pokémon capable of mega evolving. Each stone is named after the Pokémon to which it grants power to (i.e. Blazikenite, Lucarionite). In order to be activated, a Pokémon must be holding its specific Mega Stone during battle while the player has his/her Mega Ring on hand. You'll be able to find different Mega Stones hidden around the Kalos region. Your goal is to find and collect them all!

Welcome to Super Training

For the first time ever, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y uses a new method of training to visually acknowledge a Pokémon's Effort Values (EVs) called Super Training. With a compilation of mini-games, it's sure to make EV training a lot more fun and easier. It can be played from your touchscreen whenever you are not battling or viewing an event.

Super-Training Regimens

There are different training exercises in the form of mini-games that allows your Pokémon to grow in strength. One of these involves your Pokémon playing goalie against large Pokémon-sized balloons using the touchscreen and Circle Pad.

Core Training

Described as a more casual way to train your Pokémon, here you use training bags to increase your Pokémon's Effort Values. You can earn more training bags by completing Super-Training Regimens.

New Pokémon

October's issue of CoroCoro provided us with some interesting Pokémon, let's take a look.

  • Nyaonikusu is a Psychic-type Cat Pokémon, it has both a Male and Female forme which differ in apparence and ability. The female is more aggresive and can learn the move Extrasensory, whereas the Male is more supportive and can learn the move Miracle Eye.

Torimian learns a new Fairy-type move called Puppy Dog Eyes which involves repeatably pressing the "A" button resulting in lowering the foes Attack stat. It is also said that you can groom and change the colour and appearance of this Pokémon somehow.
  • Chigorasu is one of the two Fossil Pokémon found in the Kalos Region, it is a Rock/Dragon Pokémon and has the ability Sturdy Jaw which increases the power of moves used by the Jaw i.e Crunch, Ice Fang etc.

PokéBank Now Available in Europe, Aus, & North America

Earlier today, Pokémon Bank have been released throughtout Europe and Australia. The app could be downloaded from 3DS eShop, and could be used freely for up to a month. After that, it'll cost £4.49, €4.99, and $6.50 per year in UK, Europe, and Australia respectively. If you wish to get your hands on this trial, you must install PokéBank before March 14th. It's currently unknown when the software will make its way to North America, but should be pretty soon--hang tight! For steps on how to obtain Celebi, check out the following Reddit post:

  1. Download Pokémon Bank.
  2. Go into the app, and set up your Bank.
  3. You'll be given a choice to receive 100 Pokémiles or 10 BP from Brigette. Choice either, and after this choice, save, quit, and go back onto Pokémon X/Y.
  4. On the opening screen of Pokemon X/Y, open "Pokémon Link" (green button at the bottom).
  5. Select "Yes" to "retrieve data using Pokémon Link."
  6. You should receive your 100 Pokémiles/10 BP.
  7. Now, go back into the Pokémon Bank app and repeat steps 3-6. Brigette will give you a Celebi instead of the 100 Pokémiles/10 BP.

UPDATE - Bank is now live in North America.
