Rough Tug-of-War (A Warstory)

Hello all. Me and this cool dude named tangela2 were battling on the Ubers PO ladder that I thought was pretty decent. We're both pretty high in terms of ranking I found out, so it should turn out nicely. I'm oft found battling Ubers now and for good reason- it's mind-bogglingly fun. I won't say this is the best warstory or even a great one but it does have its props. I'm toybox by the way.

The warstory is named as such because a tug-of-war is a game of attrition but when one of the parties finally lets go, **** hits the roof. The warstory may look a bit spacey but that's because I didn't have much to write. And this is an Ubers match btw.

I don't like Kyogre but I wanted to use Manaphy so... yeah. That used to be Giratina-A, but now it's Giratina-O, thanks to Dark_Azelf.

Sun > Rain in Ubers seriously (imo) and this guy knows it. Ferrothorn may be dominant in OU but it's a wimp compared to Forretress here and he knows that too. Looks like a solid team.

toybox sent out Dialga!
tangela2 sent out Groudon!
The foe's Groudon's Drought intensified the sun's rays!
Dialga is exerting its Pressure!

Ok, so it's an interesting start for me. Most lead Groudon are there to get the ball rolling with rocks and most are Impish was max/max defenses.

Since I was eager to battle I forgot to note down most of his team, but I did remember seeing a Ho-Oh in in the wings so I decided to set up rocks ASAP. Dialga is bulky enough to take Earthquake with no Atk investment if he decides to attack instead of laying down his own hazards. Of course, I could have tried to cripple his weather inducer with Draco Meteor but I'm sure I can win the weather war anyway.

Start of turn 1

Dialga used Stealth Rock!

Dialga swallows a massive Earthquake and does still its job without fail. I've also prevented Groudon from setting up. Things are in my favor. Dialga has just enough health to potentially be useful later so I bring in Giratina-O on the obvious attempt to finish off Dialga.

To my suprise it isn't Forretress but Arceus. Thanks to D_A again, I have an Arceus-Steel sprite! This form of Arceus is a pretty dangerous mono-attacker with a plethora of resistances and Calm Mind. Staying in with Giratina-O isn't the best option so I opt for Kyogre in hopes of tearing it asunder with Water Spout even through a Calm Mind boost. And I get rain on my side. Yay!

Palkia takes a 337.5 base power move in the rain like a champ. Palkia is also the most stylish Pokemon in the entire game and no doubt this one sports a silky blue-striped muffler as well, so I'll just switch out to Ferrothorn to take the obvious crackling Thunder.

... Or the not-so-obvious Flamethrower. Good play by my opponent there. Luckily, it was raining or else that would've been the end for old Furry Thorns. I'm sure he doesn't want to be locked in a pitifully weak attack in the rain but I'll switch to Manaphy in case he does stay in.

Hmm... Forretress. Since it can't do anything to me, it can Spin or set up Spikes. Of the two, the former seems the most likely since he can then bring in Ho-oh later without worry.

Now I'm left with two choices: Switch to Giratina-O to on the Spin attempt. Or be a ***** with +3 SpAtk. I weight the options carefully, but I'm a jerk so I go with the latter option and set up the Tail Glow.

Start of turn 8

Ah crap. Now he has Sturdy. Maybe I should have attacked and THEN use Tail Glow on the obvious switch, but this is all in hindsight. It doesn't matter much actually but in any other battle it could've made a big difference. Anyway, now I'm supped up with a powerful Surf that can dent pretty much everything on his team.

tangela2 sent out Zekrom!

Ay caramba. Although I've gotten rid of Palkia, Zekrom rears its ugly head. My Manaphy runs a TG + 3 attacks @ Wacan Berry set to destroy fast Scarf Pokemon like Kyogre and Palkia that can revenge-kill Darkrai lategame. Coincidentally, they share the same counters so it's quite easy to draw them out. Usually, most Ubers teams only have one Pokemon that can outspeed Darkrai, but I'm fairly certain this guy has two. That Zekrom also has a Choice Scarf. Although I shed first blood, I'm not out of the dark waters yet. My suprise set is revealed and he can use Bolt Strike to easily vaporize Manaphy. Since Manaphy is one of my most important sweepers, I decided to switch into Ferrothorn to take the predicted lightning attack.

Things are not looking good for Giratina-O here so I'll attempt to switch in Kyogre to hopefully scare the titanic bird out. Dialga: 12%
Ho-Oh: 72%

Switching in Dialga may actually have been a mistake itself, I've already made one. What's another? Well by now, I'm hoping he would miss or switch out or use Roost again, so I may Roar it... but that's not going to happen ;_;

WHOOPS

Haha, that was a nice read. You had some good predicts, especially around Forry's spin but that mistake there cost you! ;; At least next time you'll know what not to do, right? XDD

Anyway, good match and nice job on the log! :B

edit: rofl @ Ferrothorn: OH SHI-

@ Dark_Azelf: Oh great. Giratina-O and Arceus-Steel. Those will be useful. Now to change every one of those sprites... and I thought I was done too.

@ Vrai: I actually don't know why I stayed in with Ferro there; I guess I was eating like always and wasn't paying attention.

Thanks for the comments.

Just open it up with the BBCode in Word or something and use Find & Replace. XD;

This was quite entertaining, and an eye opener to top level battling. The predicts here were awesome, and I really liked the small things (HO-OH 69% : Too Brave..I laughed). This battle seemed very intense.

it seems weather and entry hazards played a key factor here, and is making me think about revaluating my own team. Thank you for posting this enjoyable battle log.

^Well I'm flattered, thanks.

I went and fixed a couple things in the original post (spelling, format, etc) and the sprites are all replaced too. I also added Turn 33 which I forgot, and apparently none of you guys caught it either!

Looking at the team now, I have a massive Rayquaza weak that can rip me a new one. I don't encounter much of them nowadays but they're still problematic. I'll see what I can do. (This is what happens when I don't have Groudon)

WARSTORY = HEARTSTORY was my first thoughts upon reading this. I think it was supposed to be a good though too, it better be, because this was a damned good read.
I'll gladly admit it, I laughed loudly at the Wacan Manaphy set because I've also faced one (yeah, that was WAAAAAY back in the beginnings of B/W OU, when Drizzle was unbanned and me and Wolf had a fun battle (both running rain teams haha), he had encored my Gorebyss into Shell Smash with Wobba, and switched in Manaphy for a "free tail glow", yet I rode out the encore and stood there at +6 spa and speed, ready to wreck his team with HP Elec - and there it was, Wacan Manaphy, taking 93% of its health and I didn't have rocks up. I lost.) I think the point of that rambling was something along the lines of "lovely alternative sets that work".. eh yeah haha.

Great battle. Pity that neither the 50% nor the 80% chance to win flipped in your favor, but then again if you make a warstory out of a losing battle, it is even more likely to become great, imo. As for your Quaza weakness, you could always scarf Dialga I guess? You could always try goading DD Quaza into Outrage 4 ferro or something like that, but eh.

Did I mention that I loved this battle? Also don't take anything from D_A, he hacks his pokes and you know it, getting Giratina-O from his pearl cartridge
