I do not quite understand what this means, howdo you pick pokemon for a specific group? what do they mean?

Well, I started;

Got my awesome Treeko
Did the boring beggining stuff, beat May
Got my even more awesome Ralts after hours of searching, named Control
Trained to lv15 and helped Wally in between
Had to use Treeko to beat the Aqua Grunt since my only damaging move is Confusion
Managed to beat Roxanne after about 6 resets
Ralts evolved

Team so far:

Control lv20
Hardy Nature
Confusion
Double Team
Teleport
Growl (Gonna be replaced by Calm Mind next level)
