My taste varies a lot depending what I'm listening to, so this is more or less the favourite albums of current me. I'd probably have different selections that I'd agree with in the past as well, but then of course there are some undeniable classics that will stick, and have stuck with me forever

Spoiler:

I could go on, but I don't know if I'd stop D:

Well I just decided to put 3 down:

A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders

I had trouble deciding which album to put on here, then it turns out that I chose this one because I hated most of the songs on it, then I really loved them. ATCQ are kinda important in the rap game and this whole album seems nicely put together and of higher quality than The Low End Theory while having less dull points than The Love Movement. Apart from Big Boi/Andre 3k I havn't seen a rap duo that feels more natural than Q-Tip/Phife Dawg who are the definition of silky flow and makes it sound more like a fun schoolyard rap battle than a stifled studio recording. Of course the lyrics are on point too and its another nice introductory "rap for people who hate rap" album.

A fun fact that you might like to know about ATCQ is that the aforementioned The Low End Theory is the entire reason why Nikki Minaj is famous. at all. Because she stole the best line from the best song from Busta Rhymes.

Recommended Songs:
Award Tour
Electric Relaxation
Oh My God (remix)

Nas - Illmatic

I'm not explaining this because a) I can't and b) I shouldn't have to. It's conceited but I would rather let the album itself speak and review to you rather than my words tainting the greatness of it. I skip The Genesis but that's because its an intro track with no rapping and MF DOOM has ruined skits for me forever.

Recommended Songs:
Every song starting from Track 2, New York State of Mind

Joey Bada$$ - 1999

In terms of lyrical content and polish, other albums outshine him. In terms of guest appearances, other albums outrank him. In terms of overall vibe? Na. Like the name of the mixtape suggest, it's a nod back to the 90's era of rap that Joey grew up with, a spirit he embodies through his beat selection: soulful samples, jazz hooks and even cartoonish jingles dominate the tracks, backed by some impressive and mature lyrisicm, even more so when you note that he's still young. You don't even have to pay for this, it's free. Please cop it.

Lately I've been listening to dark r'n'b a lot, like The Weeknd's House of Balloons. The Smiths have also caught my attention a lot in recent days while I've been taking some downtime before the semester starts. I'd only really listened to a singles anthology before but I'm working my way through their discography now and The Queen Is Dead is really something else entirely.

It's definitely an eclectic mix, but a lot of great artists. Out of the ten, if you haven't listened to them, I strongly recommend all of them obviously, but Gossamer and A Little Past Twilight (Passion Pit and Fair and Kind respectively) are both really interesting albums, very different from each other. One is very up-beat/energetic, while the other is rather moody, but beautiful.
