The community rules are designed as a policy to allow community members to respect the values of other members. The rules set forth are rules set in conjunction with our terms of service. The community rules aim to protect members and staff around the community to ensure that it is an enjoyable, safe experience for all its members. However, please be aware that failure to abide by the rules or the terms of service may result in a warning or a ban. Rules may be subject to change; please check back on the community rules as often as possible to review the rules. Also be aware that while these are rules that apply to the community as a whole, some forums within the community may impose other rules. Please check on those rules before you post in those forums as well.
SPAM is not allowed. Stupid Pointless Annoying Messages are posts with little relevance to a thread. Members are not allowed to create posts that are devoid of content or invaluable text.
Posts must have at least 25 characters and 4 words. All posts are required to have 4 words. The community has a physical 25-character limit to each post. No exceptions are given to this rule, and no one is allowed to override the limit (no "*stupid character limit*", filler text or anything like that), except for in forums which have a description saying you can. The Diamond and Pearl Battling and Trade forums, for example, permit it.
Double posting or consecutive posting is forbidden.
While the fan fiction areas have exceptions, no one is allowed to make more than one consecutive post. Edit posts if you need to add more to them. If you need to include more than five attachments, you may create as many posts as needed to do so.
Threads can only be "revived" within a month. A thread that has gone past an approximate month may not be posted in. For restarting topics, create a new thread.
Everybody is to respect other people on the board. Do not flame, bash or insult other people. If someone acts uncivil, or harasses/intimidates you, you are not given the excuse to act the same in retaliation. Language in the forum must not be offensive to others - words such as "gay" when used in a derogatory manner must not be used. Do not press upon other members' religious beliefs.
Swearing and censor bypass is not allowed. It is not permitted to swear on the community - along with that, most known words are blocked. Censor bypass is also disallowed - that is, censoring a part of a swear word so that it isn't blocked out but the original word is implied.
Advertising other forums is not permitted in posts, social groups, blog entries, visitor messages, or private messages. The community prohibits unsolicited advertising of forums. The only space where you are permitted to advertise is your signature. Members who join and send forum links to other members over the private message system will be immediately banned on the notion of joining with the intention of advertising their forum. In addition, we will delete all private messages, visitor messages and posts with these links. You are permitted to link to threads and posts of another forum when it may helpful and contributive to the thread. Linking to other web sites is permitted anywhere in the community, but blatantly advertising web sites is not permitted. In particular, joining and advertising shopping sites will have your account suspended and your posts removed. (It is left to the discretion of the community staff to decide whether a link to a website or forum may be considered advertising. Unacceptable forms of linking may be edited without question.)
Pornographic images must not be submitted anywhere on the community. In no portion of the community can an image or link to a pornography site be submitted. Doing such is heavily disregarded - posting such will lead to an immediate and indefinite ban, regardless of a member's forum status.
Illegally tampered copyrighted software may not be posted or linked to.
Including ROMs, “warez” or cracks, no software that has been illegally tampered with, or distributed outside its legal means, should be linked to. This includes original BIOS or firmware files for any gaming platform. ROMs are copyrighted materials, and the distribution of them without any copyright holding is prohibited.
Don't question any bans that we issue. Do not ask about a member's ban. Bans to members are kept between staff and the member. Unless information is answered by a staff member, you should not ask about it. Don't question bans that we issue to members - additionally, do not invite friends to rally your ban.
You are not allowed to register accounts to create an illusion of more than one person.
Also known as "sock puppetry", you may not use another account to vote on a poll or back up an argument, mislead other members, or evade a ban. Evasion of a ban, in particular may, depending on the offences a member commits, result in punishments such as the ban time being doubled and/or the timer reset. This does not prohibit having multiple accounts (for yourself or individuals in your family) in general. We will ban all accounts used for ban evasion without question.
Thread tags must be relevant.
Tags are meant to be a system of organizing threads by topic. People who give pointless, irrelevant, or inappropriate tags to threads may be infracted. No tags at all are better than tags that don't make sense.
The PokéCommunity uses an infraction system on members should they break rules in any forum. Infractions are issued for constant rule breakage, except for a few infractions that may be awarded per-offence. Under the infraction system, members are generally warned with a yellow card () as a verbal warning. A repeated offence may be added to your account record in the form of a red card ().
Accumulating 9 infraction points will lead to a two week ban. Likewise, 15 infraction points ends up in a one month ban. 18 infraction points will lead to a three month ban. 20 infraction points will result in a permanent ban from the community. These points expire at a certain point; however, accumulating 25 red card infractions (whether expired or not) will lead to a permanent ban as well.

Please note that some forums have specific rules that you may be warned or infracted for. Please read the rules of a forum to learn these other potential infractions. There are also certain types of bans that do not follow from the infractions system (but are for more severe issues).
There are several features built-in to vBulletin itself that we make use of. These follow all the forum-wide rules unless otherwise stated. They also have their own rules, so please review them and be sure to follow them. If you find any violations of these rules, don't hesitate to report them like you would any other post. If you have any questions, ask a member of the staff.
All user names must conform to the community standards and be appropriate for a general family friendly audience. Hidden characters and UTF-8 characters designed to hide, glitch, or be unseen are not allowed in your username.
User profiles are a way for you to show off your identity on PC. You can post and receive public messages on other profiles and display your friends and photos. You can also customize the colours (and background images if you're a supporter).
No inappropriate images.
You are allowed to upload images to your personal album, but make sure they comply by PC rules. This means nothing inappropriate, whether in a private or public album.
The 25-character and 4-word rule does not apply.
Yes, this means you can bypass the limit as much as you want in the visitor messages.
Do not give out any personal information.
Giving out information such as your full name, your address or telephone number can be very dangerous online. Be cautious when sharing information.
Your YouTube video or Sound file may not be set to auto-play.
There are still a lot of people on PC who use dial-up or have a bandwidth cap. To have a hefty video file (especially in HD!) load automatically each time they visit your profile can really hinder their browsing experience. Thus, anyone who sets their video to auto-play may have it removed by the administrators.
Social groups are member-created, joinable little discussion boards that can span a variety of topics. They're a lot like the groups/clubs you'd find in the Pokémon Groups and Other Clubs forums except more automated. Social groups must follow all rules that apply to profiles and the forums.
No inappropriate images.
You are allowed to upload images from your albums to a social group, but the images must be relevant to the group and must comply by PC rules. The images must also have something to do with the social group.
The 25-character and 4-word rule does not apply.
While this limit does not apply, your responses in social groups should also not be spammy. Warnings/infractions may be given out for repeated offences.
Inactive groups may be pruned.
If a group has gone with no posts for over a month, it may be deleted for inactivity.
Potentially offensive groups and messages will be deleted.
This means no anti- groups, hate groups, etc. Keep it positive.
Try not to make moderated groups.
It makes sense for some groups to have moderated membership (ie, the "Veteran" group where each member must be checked for how long they've been on PC), most groups don't need it. Try to keep your groups open so everyone can join right away.
Since it is not possible to moderate groups before they go live, it is up to YOU to make sure your group meets the following requirements:
A clear and concise name
A meaningful purpose in the description
Not too broad or too specific. Note we will be more lenient with Pokemon-related groups*
Must be unique (not too similar to another)
Any group that does not meet these criteria may be edited to fit by the staff or outright deleted.
* A fan group for Misty from the Pokemon Anime would be okay but if you wanted a group for a character in a non-Pokemon series (ie. Hermione from Harry Potter), it would be allowed only as a thread in the general fan group for that series (based on the previous example, it would be a thread in the Harry Potter social group).
If you have any questions or concerns about a group, contact a higher staff member. If your group was deleted and you don't know why, read this.

To make sure that signatures do not distract viewers and posters alike, should you decide to use a signature please keep the following rules in mind. If after reading these rules, you have any questions about whether your signature follows our rules, you may consult the Signature Review thread.
Images in signatures can have an accumulated limit of 500 pixels in width and 300 pixels in height (500 × 300). The total amount of images you have in your signature cannot exceed that limit.
The use of CSS in signatures cannot be used to bypass the latter limit either. A staff member has the right to disable your signature if they feel you are using CSS to bypass the 500 × 300 limit. In addition to the aforementioned rules, there are further rules in which you must abide by; you will find these rules listed below.
Text and font limits
The amount of text you may write in your signature is determined based upon pixel size. A moderator is allowed to disable your signature if they see it that you are exceeding these limits.
Your signature cannot contain text in a higher size than 5.
An image plus text cannot exceed 600 pixels in width and 400 pixels in height.
Restricted elements within a signature
There are specific elements have restrictions set from their use in signatures. Any content that fails to comply with the following restrictions will be removed.
There are filesize limitations for images. Your signature images may not exceed 1 megabyte in file size. Large file sizes for images are most commonly seen in large, moving .gif images. To check the size of your images on Windows, save them to a folder, right click, and under the properties tab you will find how large your image in size.
Spoiler tags are not permitted in signatures.
YouTube videos may not be embedded in signatures. Embedded videos may not be added to your signature. A link, however, to a video you would like to share is permitted so long as it is within the text limits.
