Introduction? But of course!

Pokémon Origin is a game created by me and the development team based on Poccil's awesome Pokemon Essentials Starter Kit. The game itself features many unique abilities including Dual Screen and 3-Dimensional Map work along with other capabilities you won't find in most fangames.

Key features:

3D Maps

Yes it's true. Thanks to MGCaladtogel (for NeoMode7) Origin is now 3D and my modifications to ALL of the NeoMode7 scripts for Pkmn Essentials support and improvements in performance and calculations.

Is this actually 3D like with models and textures, or is it something like the perspective mode in Pokemon Essentials...

What algorithms are you using for Antialiasing?

EDIT: What's interesting is that I am working on an OpenGL project to create a graphics engine that (sort of) recreates the effect in Pokemon Games.
EDIT2: I noticed some of your screenies, just to tell you that the indoors are NOT in 3D in the Pokemon games, it is looking strange the way you have done it. (Maybe it's just being unfamilier but w/e)

lol my first post on PC in ages. Excellent work, I am glad to see you improve the look of 3D engine every now and then. I see great potential with the scripts you are making, and I am not surprised if most fungames are made in 3D in a few years. Thank you CP, your breakthrough with RMXP 3D makes me believe that anything is possible so long as you have the talent and heart in it. Best luck with the future development of 3D engine, it is going to change the history of Pokemon fungames.

Hello fellow members,

Long time no see, eh? You may have (or not) noticed my absence here so I have good news about the absence. I've been developing an engine I am quite proud of now and it's gotten to a solid beta. I don't really know how to say it without bragging though but it's 3D (real 3D this time). I can go on and on in one post raving about it but then there would be sooooo many skeptics saying I'm lying or I photoshop my images (I don't) so I have decided to release a beta download to prove I have indeed created this 3D engine and the images are not photoshopped. I have created a download page located at :

http://www.collosalnetwork.net/Origin/DemoDownload/Pokemon Origin Demo.rar

However I do need to note some things about the demo :

- Because of the new encryption on Pkmn Origin the game takes ~60 seconds (should be a little less) to load before the actual window pops up. (Sorry but it's not immediate :p)
- I recommend that you put your computer on High Performance (otherwise the game lags a small amount of FPS)
- It is not a full-on play demo, the demo is 90% to prove the legitimacy of my engine; you won't find much to actually play.

Credits:
I used some base scripts but please note all of them were heavily modified (just inserting them into your game will not give you the same results as the demo)

MGCaladtogel - NeoMode7 + MGCCubes (Please know I did NOT use King Kadelfek's 3D engine, you'll see I clearly did not in the demo but rather this is a custom engine)
Fustel - BDR + BDR Tile (Originally RMVX)

*** Also I think I really also should thank Nintendo (Pokemon Company) for the inspiration of Pokemon: Black and White and they're 3D effects because this encouraged me to write the 3D engine in the demo. Also I'd like to thank you (the reader/readers) for downloading and playing the demo if you did ;) Please don't comment about the 3D unless you played the demo, it should answer a lot of questions and remove most of your skeptic thoughts, but I'd be happy to answer questions about it within reason. (i.e. don't ask "can I have the engine?") Also remember that this is a beta engine so many things will improve over time.

~ CP

EDIT: It seems I've forgotten to note some of the things you should see:

- Redesigned Poketch (No buttons, rather the green screen contains touchable buttons, although they don't do anything in the demo) - The app in the demo is kinda glitchy too but the main focus was the 3D.
- 3D Depth and actual Textures
- Animated Titlescreen and Intro (albeit intro is very short)

@Venom12 and zigzags :

The demo does indeed run, however I did say in the post that it takes around 60 seconds to actually start (sorry :p I can't help the time) because it's using this new encryption so the rgssad file can't be cracked without something that can crack an exe file. One of my friends IRL (crazyhand) has downloaded the demo and was able to open it successfully.

The only thing that is required to run the demo is an RGSS RTP (which should come with RMXP) and a decent computer wouldn't be bad...it doesn't have to be a fancy computer to run the demo with either no lag or minor lag.

@ help-14:

You can open it, I've been trying to say it takes around a minute to open the game window. It doesn't take longer than a minute to open if you click it once.

Possibly but I don't really think so. My friend, Crazyhand, was able to run Origin on his computer without a problem. However, for those who apparently can't run the game I'll post some screens below but please know that the 3D is best displayed in the RGSS Player because while you move you can actually see each side of the 3D object.

There is surprisingly very little lag, though the game ate all of my ram memory up :S Also your resolution is still not fixed, although the events and the map seems to be loaded in 1*1 pixel, your text clearly shows that it is the original essentials resolution (2*2), and that needs to be fixed. Also the map scrolling isn't smooth as I thought it would be. That's all the feedback I can give since there wasn't much within the demo...

Anyways it looks good, and seems to work well :) good job.

EDIT: Taking a second look, I've noticed that the passages are set wrong. You don't want to set the left and right sides of the tree to unpassable. Make them a higher priority so it looks like the original games.

It played well ate more ram than all adobe products at once...........

Also the 3d is eye hurting. also there isnt much.. if you released somthing you could have atleast added a pokemon battle or 2 or grass. I m no game dev but right now i dont think this has that much potential.

@> help-14 and Pichuichu:

I guess not for now. I am working on a new encryption method that will hopefully be done soon with the same results except it'll load faster without using too much ram.

@> Luka SJ:

Thank you Luka, I did notice the ram issues which I am in the middle of fixing. I have, however, fixed every bug you mentioned. The map scrolling is now much, much smoother however the demo was meant to prove the validity of the 3D engine...and to prove I am not photoshoping it. I knew I would get more skeptics than believers if I simply showed pictures of the engine without proof. The tile passability 'glitches' were actually because the 3D had some...minor glitches at the time (certain tiles were passable because they're height was tall enough to go under, like the trees) so it was a temporary fix but now it's 100% fixed.

@> koby1:

Thank you for the constructive critism koby :) (I am in the middle of fixing the ram issues mentioned by everyone) However I don't think you understand how hard it is to make a 3D engine in RMXP like I made. I know there have been 2 other 3D engines for RMXP but they have either been discontinued very early on or they are simply too laggy to even think of creating a game with them. I made this engine because I wanted Origin to be different than other RMXP games, since every RMXP game (at least here) is using 2D maps with the exception of 2 games I believe which used mode7...which is extremely laggy anyways and it's actually not really 3D if your defining 3D correctly. I personally believe that this has a LOT of potential though because it has very minor lag (Try getting 3D to working in RMXP without lag by yourself and say it's easy) and you can tell it has definite depth. I rest my case. You can believe what you want but I, along with several other friends, believe the 3D is coming along nicely.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For Everyone:

I am working on a new encryption method so you guys can run it without it crashing your computers/eating up all your ram. I want to let you know that the 3D is NOT the problem (for those who are wondering). However I have been updating the 3D engine too so, since I have some valid proof that the engine is real, I'll document some new things :

1) I have successfully modified Fustel's RMVX script (BDR Tile + Height) for RMXP so now the 3D also has 3D Collision Courses. (Also props to Fustel for his BDR scripts!!)

Also I have been cleaning up the 3D too, here's a picture of the progress since the demo proved it's legit 3D and runs well :

capture219.png

I know this may look like NeoMode7 at first, but I assure you it's not. If you've played the demo it's that same 3D but at a different angle.

I admint that that the 3D engine sets it apart from any other game , but what I ment by No potential is that you've showed us nothing of the storyline of Origin.. basically I was expecting like all other demos to have to be able to battle or use some unique feature other than the 3d itself.... or anything of that matter.. there was nothing much to do in the DEMO which I thought would have been better seeing as you have a multiboot CDS and a dual screen system like ninteno's... I do to believe in 3D games.... ive been wanting that from some fan games.

In my opinion the 3D angle is set too low maybe from a higher angle it would look less "laggy"

Outline:
In the demo I wanted to receive a pokemon on my birthday from some old professor like the Nintendo games... That's what I ment by progress...

I guess since you're no game dev, you cannot appereciate how difficult, complex and fiddly scripting is - especially when you try to modify how the map itself is loaded. And your comment also shows us that you haven't read what CP said. This was NOT a demo of the game, this was a demo of the 3D system (as he stated in his post). He wasn't posting the demo to show you what origin looks like, and what it feels like, he was simply posting the demo for proof of his engine - I don't see a problem with that. Just because you don't have 3 hours of gameplay within something that was meant to show you its map, you can't say that this game has no potential, personally I think it has more potential that most of the games here. And let me tell you why I think that.

CP here is giving the best of his abilities, to create something from his game to set it apart from others, and he is putting in that unique feature which will boost his overall look of the game. I think it has alot of potential since he is able to create custom scripts so that we don't look at the same old Essentials game, like everyone else has. You wan't some storylines? Go to the first page. He is not obligated to post a demo, with an intro of the story, he could just post a demo to show his latest soundtracks - it doesn't matter what he puts in it. But saying that this game has no potential, just because there is no play content is wrong. And that like you said...coming from a non developer. I guess you just can't appereciate the difficulties one has to go through, and the annoying little things that have to be done to achieve this.

To CP I say good job!
