Tactics Universe is NOT A POKEMON HACK.

This post has been edited from the normal copy/paste post I do because I figure most people here won't be too familiar with Fire Emblem. Things in double parentheses are added notes to help you.

-------------------

Tactics Universe is an elaborate hack of Fire Emblem 7: Blazing Sword, casually referred to as just "Fire Emblem" in North America. The game hacks pretty much every concept that you could possibly think of--characters, classes, weapons, animations, graphics, maps, music, text, script, etc., you get the point. ((Tactics Universe is the only Fire Emblem hack to do this and get completion of more than 10 chapters thus far.))

Siegfried's Story (7/02/09) [English]
Kelik's & Anakin's Story Part 1 (1/17/10)
Kelik's & Anakin's Story Finale (TBD)

To start, I am Blazer... here's a few things about me--

- Webmaster/Administrator of the Fire Emblem Shrine
- Creator of Prince of Durand & Tactics Universe, a 4 Year Fire Emblem Hacker
- Creator of Fire Emblem Mugen
- Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Fan
- Basketball & Ultimate Frisbee Player (I'm obsessed with the former)
- Played many Pokemon games, been on many forums
- More intelligent than the average idiot--I can type properly and use google. I'm 15, if it matters.

Tactics Universe was originally just called the "Fire Emblem Universe Game". It started off as a forum hack for the Fire Emblem Universe forums ((a Fire Emblem site) where members created profiles for characters and the forum attempted to work together to create the game.

Somehow I got involved in the mix and took on the leadership of the hacking. Soon enough just like every other forum hack, the forum hack was on the brink of death--most people considered it dead. At some point I took over and started getting progress, slowly but surely. I had already been involved in the Fire Emblem hacking business for a long time and I set high expectations for this hack.

Bla bla bla, stuff happened, I stopped getting much of any support or anything besides a few people like Swordsalmon ((friend)) and Exxucus ((map spriter) (and on occasion Myke, a spriter, Arch, and Memento Mori, some forum staff members). Later on I decided to just completely take over the game such that I would have little regard for the original characters so that I could get better progress. Bla bla bla, more stuff happened.

I made a 4 chapter demo release a long time ago--well actually 5 chapters, from the Prologue of the game to Chapter 4. Last June this summer I released the game up to Chapter 10, the final chapter of Siegfried's mode (which is essentially equivalent to Lyn's mode). ((Lyn's mode is a portion of the original game, like "Part 1")) I made many fixes, updates, additions, etc.

I think that's enough background info for now. I've generally kept Tactics Universe updated on Fire Emblem Universe and Youtube. I later posted it on the Fire Emblem Shrine, my own website, Fire Emblem New Dawn, a forum of a friend of mine, and ROMHacking.net, a ROMHacking website. As of the chapter 15 release I decided to post it on more forums.

Introduction: Tactics Universe takes place on the continent of Elibe--the same continent where the stories of Fire Emblem: Sealed Sword and Fire Emblem [Blazing Sword] occur.

Currently, Etruria is invading the land and taking over each region in a massive assault. The other kingdom's have been unable to stop their advance. Lycia is taken over for the most part, most of Sacae is dominated, the nomadic tribes are in turmoil, Ilia is conquered, and the empire of Bern is barely maintaining itself. However, one man begins a rebellion-- unfortunately his attempts are futile and he is forced to retreat and go into hiding. Along with his son, a young boy named Shon, the rebel Siegfried creates another rebellion; however, this time he forges new alliances and gains new comrades in an attempt to halt Etruria and help conquer their oppression.

Reclaim the plains of Sacae and then continue the rebellion into the heart of Lycia...

Find new friends, fight in new territories, and even visit areas that the future heroes of the Blazing Sword are destined to meet in the spin-off hack called Tactics Universe!.

------------------------------

Anakin/Kelik's mode starts off with Anakin in Pherae. Very recently Siegfried was caught in a bad situation by the Etrurian General Howard. Many of the rebels scattered in order to preserve the rebellion a little bit. Some of them stayed at Caelin to fend off Howard and his soldiers.

To go back in time a little, in chapter 8 of Siegfried's mode, the player meets Anakin, a motivational speaker who supports the rebellion. At the beginning of chapter 9, Anakin and two comrades of his, Ace and Eduardo, travel to Pherae by order of Siegfried. The game starts off here where Anakin is attempting to spread about word of the rebellion and gain support for the cause, when Kevin, a Knight who was in league with Siegfried, shows up to convey some news.

In chapter 12, the game switches to Kelik, a young leader of a mercenary group called the Legend Mercenaries. Up until now, he has only discreetly attacked Etruria and fought against them. This includes minor raids and the such. His mercenary group is a small group consisting of only a few soldiers, all of which have a goal or ambition that they are working for--ultimately, however, the mercenaries have a dislike for Etruria.

After the events of chapter 12, Anakin and Kelik meet together in chapter 13, then team up and cooperate in order to reconquer Caelin and save Siegfried. The game will continue as the Universe Rebellion, as it is called, fights against Etruria's tyranny. Unfortunately, there is more to the war than the rebellions could ever imagine...

((The plot will thicken past the typical fanmade plot after chapter 15, so far it's just build-up))

Finally, another non-Pokémon hack. (It's been way too long!) Sure it's the only more-than-ten-chapter FE hack, though? Nonetheless, I've seen it, and it's a pretty impressive effort.

Fire Emblem 7 was my favourite FE Game :D

Where is this in the timeline of 6 and 7 ? I'm assuming after ?

Also why is the name Siegfried familiar to me, is the name in another Fire Emblem :/ might have to go play them now :D

Anyways a seemingly great hack, I hope this gets completed

What tools did you use? Because I seriously can't find any hacking tools for fire emblem.

The last non-Pokemon hack I saw was Ninja Caterpie's hack. This is awesome, and I can't wait to try this out later on.

Hah, I knew it was you. =P Very nice job on what you've done so far, =P

I should get on with mine. @_@

EDIT: Oh, screw you, Blazer. You made me want to go back to hacking FE. When I did so, I managed to fix my script with the disassembler (since when did that happen!?) and now I want to keep working...but the confusing manner in which I have to script now confuses me. D=

So now your promoting your hack on pokecommunity. I've seen your hack on five different sites now. Whatever you can do to get people to play it, I guess.

*notices some problems with the first post and fixes them*

^Promoting? That sounds harsh. It's more like sharing my work with others to enjoy. Isn't that one of the main motivations for hacking? (the more the better, too XD)

Disassembler is recent. It's pretty nifty. I'm tempted to stop using hex and start using it, but it can be a little intimidating at first, like most things.

^There are plenty of other non-Pokemon hacks but most of them are in their early stages or are just ideas with some basic planning done. There are a few progressing ones but as I said in the first post, there isn't much to show for the Fire Emblem hacking scene. After browsing around here, I got the same impression. Most of the Progressing Hacks aren't very far (past more than 2 gyms) and the ones in Hacking Showcase are currently just betas for the most part, with a few finished hacks (ShinyGold was great, and I plan on playing Pokemon Brown at some point in my life).

@Pikiame, you aren't going to find as great programs to hack Fire Emblem as Pokemon. They're going to be different types, too. The main reason is that Pokemon is probably like 10x more popular than Fire Emblem, but there are other lesser reasons too. I hope this doesn't count as advertising because I'll be honest, this is my site, but you can find almost all if not all Fire Emblem related hacking programs here. < This includes more than patches, but most anything related to Fire Emblem hacking as a whole. The main programs beginner hackers use are Nightmare (alternatively Nightmare 2.0), which can edit stats, growths, unit placement, levels, classes, and plenty of other data type things, and FEditor Adv, which can hack portraits, text, and animations. Mappy Map Editor + MAR Array Inserter are used to design and insert maps. Event Assembler is a program by my friend Nintenlord that can edit existing events or help insert custom events, which is pretty much "scripting" in Pokemon. Most people however use UPS patching. GBA Graphics Editor is like unLZ-GBA but it's 10x better.

On this note, Pokecommunity is missing out on a lot of Nintenlord's programs, which is a shame, because most of them aren't limited to Fire Emblem. GBA Graphics Editor is great for GBA and NDS graphic editing. O_o

Last part of my response to your post, Fire Emblem hackers aren't as say, organized, especially with their thread topics, partially because the member base is smaller, and also because they don't know better. I'm probably the only Fire Emblem hacker who has title bars for subdivisions and organizes my topic like so, but that's because I've seen how Poke hacks do it.

*continues up the thread*

EJames2100, Tactics Universe takes place a few hundred years before FE7/FE6. IIRC FE6 happens in the year 980, FE7 is 1,000, and this is like six hundred something, I forgot what. ._.

Siegfried is based off of some mythology or something... It's probably in like Soul Calibur. Idk if any FE character has the name though, they probably have something similar. :\

Thanks for your comment, Hiroshi. I appreciate it a lot especially since you seem like a big figure with your fancy Admin status. It's the only 10+ chapter FE hack that is totally custom, there are a few other finished FE hacks, but they aren't totally custom like this. "Totally custom" means custom events (a new script). Most other hacks are reskin hacks, which just take the original game and chance certain aspects (change some graphics, text, names, and edit some stats and other things).

The equivalent in a Pokemon hack would be just changing the graphics of the Gym leaders, changing the names of the Pokemon, editing some Pokemon and town palettes, and maybe changing up the wild pokemon you can find. It's not really a new game, it's just an altered experience. :O

-----------

Man, what a long post! :O

You are awesome. Fact.

Fire emblem hacks are so hard to come by. I downloaded one, but all the person did was change the maps around. This looks like a lot of effort was put into it just based off the screenies.

It's not advertising because it's a link to something useful and not just linking us to your site for some random reason. :>

Also your hack looks pretty bomb, man.

^Yeah, some sites are stricter than others though... Thanks though, I wouldn't call myself a bomber but my hack IS the bomb. In the FE world anyway... lol.

@Zealot, thanks yo. Consider yourself lucky if the hack had changed maps, most hacks have the same maps as before (more recent hacks have maps that are just basic edits of the original maps). I DID reuse a couple maps from FE7 because the continent is the same but I have the best Fire Emblem map spriter alive helping me out so the maps made by him are pretty good if you ask me.

I smell laziness...xD Depending on how much time difference there is (which I can't tell through a quick skim...D=), the terrain should have changed, even in the slightest.

that's me, silly Yeah, from what I can see, these maps are really good. =P As far as the screenshots show (ceebs dling and playing the beta), you really do have a great mapper. Some of the unit placing looks a little awkward, but eh. =|

But, ah, yeah. Really do wish you luck no i don't its competition ragh and it's great to see someone hacking something other than yourself on this forum. It's a little de-motivating when you're the only hacker of something that's actually done something on a board such as this. =| G'luck, =P Will be watching because it's easier here. xP

Wow. Haven't seen a non-poke hack here in ages. It looks good. Haven't played FE in awhile, might have to re-DL a ROM for this hack. ;]

I'll admit to being a little lazy but the two maps that are reused are revisiting old places... And one of them is actually edited with different terrain (like you suggested).

I can't make unit placement perfect but if you ask me it's adequate.

Thanks for everyone's comments.

What I said wasn't meant as a bad thing, sorry that it came across that way. Your hack is definitely the best Fire Emblem hack out there. I was more or less saying that I see your hack around a lot.

I've now made a blog for Tactics Universe. Please see the blog for information on the blog.

http://tacticsuniverse.blogspot.com/

P.S. I haven't made any posts here for so long because there hasn't really been anything to post around here. I've been making progress but there's nothing I can get screenshots of or make a video of to impress anyone here. :\

Update!

Chapter 16 has been done for a few days but I haven't had time to make a proper update. Well, now I have. This is the first complete chapter since the latest release, V3.1, so I hope it'll be enjoyable for you. You can find videos at http://www.feshrine.net/youtube/ but if that's not your thing, I have screenshots for you! Make sure to keep up with the blog as I update pretty often and I post more information there than anywhere else--think of it as the ultimate place to keep up with TU, since I can't always bump topics all over the internet for every update! The blog is at http://tacticsuniverse.blogspot.com and the official site is at http://www.feshrine.net/tactics/ -- with that out of the way, please do comment and enjoy!

P.S. Sorry for the big bump, I guess a big update needs a big bump.

Seeing as it's your first post here I thought I'd let you know that you're not allowed to post in threads that are over a month old. Thanks!
