Welcome!
Don't want to read all this stuff? Then just click here and join, and talk your head off.
And if you're IRC-savvy? You can just go and join us at #thepokecommunity from irc.systemnet.info!

Interested in joining the PokéCommunity Chat? Glad you're here, because we're relaunching today, trying to build a bigger, better chat!

The chat's a place to talk your head off. Maybe relax after a day's grind of stuff. Come by - everyone's welcome! This is a live chat - you get to talk and talk, and you can talk about… just about anything. It's not always about Pokémon, either, so maybe you'll find people talking about things you're interested in!

If you need more information, check the Chatroom Information and Questions thread.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the thread mentioned earlier, or ask them here, right now!
Chatroom Rules

We have rules to try to keep the peace, so when joining, be sure to follow these rules here.

Guidelines
For all the small stuff that happens in the chat.

The chatroom is a live, general chat, and is not used for any specific purposes. (i.e. not a ROM hacking channel)
The chat is not the place to go for specific things such as battling, trading, or ROM hacking - it functions as a live, general chat for everyone to enjoy. Because of this, don't expect to find a matchup for a trade, or expect to have someone readily available to assist you in ROM hacking, as most of our regulars may not be interested. You cannot expect anyone to know how to have knowledge on any particular ROM hack, either.

Please follow the SystemNet rules.
The PokéCommunity does not own the SystemNet IRC network, so there are additional rules you'll need to follow, even in our channel. Failure to do so may result in a network ban - one that the staff of the chat will not be able to reverse.
How to join
There are many ways to join the PokéCommunity Chat. The quickest and easiest way is to use the built-in feature of the community. Simply go to the Chat menu in the navigation bar and select "Open Chat". You may choose to open the chat in another tab to keep it around efficiently. Be aware that once you close the chat window, you're closing the chat and won't receive any messages from it until you enter the chat again.

The method we recommend is getting an IRC client - a program to help you log into IRC. Most IRC clients allow you to run the chat in the background, completely independent of the web browser you're using, and you won't have to log into the community to access the chat if you use a client. Once you've installed a client, accessing the chat is as simple as typing a few commands, or for some IRC programs, clicking a URL (irc://irc.systemnet.info/ThePokeCommunity).

If you wish to get an IRC client, we recommend:
Once you have an IRC client, the information you need to know is the server and the channel. You'll also be asked to provide a username and nickname - this can be anything (that isn't inappropriate) provided that it isn't taken. Your PC login won't work on the IRC network - you'll want create one if you come regularly, and this will be explained in detail later. The details you'll need to fill in your IRC client are:

Server: irc.systemnet.info
Channel: #thepokecommunity
Nick: Anything you want. (No spaces or non-alphanumeric characters except dashes, underscores and backslashes)

A username is different from a nickname - it's also to identify you.

The PokéCommunity chat has been my home from home on PC for many years, though I haven't been as active during the last two years or so, I've started coming in again to relive the times I've had with the friends I made there and even make new friends while I frequent there once more as a regular. So far I'm enjoying it very much and I recommend this place to anybody else with a keen interest in socialising and meeting new people.

I think it's wonderful that you've taken the time to bring the chat to the attention of more members, and I do hope more people take an interest in what we have to offer there!

Love it! Thanks for this update, really appreciate it. I think this will go over well since lots of members chat through vms/pms *cough* me *cough*.
Kudos!

Ok, so I just tried to go into the chat room but it says that I'm not connected to a channel.
So then when I click the 'channel' button, it says that I'm not connected period.
Then i try to connect and the message pops up saying 'access denied'.

I think the reason it said that is because I denied the pop up that came up.
It was asking for access to my computer, and I don't find that very nice.
I trust the site and all, but I don't want to risk anything.
Is there a way I can join the chat without having to give you access to my computer and such?

It's not working for me.

Each time I laod the chat, there's some error and it won't appear. I'm allowing Java when the box comes up.

I can't connect to IRC either. It might be my client, though. I'm using SwiftIRC (an IRC client built into SwiftKit, a RuneScape toolkit)

Ah. I know what might've happened.

Be sure to click NO when you see this. Restart your browser, and then try to join the chat.

The "access" to the computer is basically the Java chat requesting permission to use the internet. Java applets are typically blocked from using the internet for security reasons, though some rogue Java apps ask for access to the computer to do… unfortunate things.

This chat applet will not do that. It only uses your computer's resources to connect to the internet. That's all.

OK cool, thank you for the further explanation. The only problem is when you reload the page, the pop-up doesn't appear again, so I can't accept whether I want to or not. For all I know it could even be my own fault; not very computer savvy ;3

Tried closing your browser? It should pop up once you reopen the browser and reload the chat page.

In your case, I'd just download Colloquy and use that instead.

Is there any way to access the chat without having to download/install anything? I can't install anything on my Laptop.

Well, I logged on earlier and it worked fine. However, now I can't connect. It says "Amore nickname is already in use". Which is true, because I'm using it, but doesn't really make sense. And I can't change it to log on either, as it says "Not Connected" when I try to change my nickname.

I hopped in there many times in the past, but there was rarely anyone there. Kind of nice to see it brought back to life.

It won't work for me. At the top it says "JavaChat" and directly below it says "IRC Info: irc.systemnet.info :: ThePokeCommunity". Below that is just a blank space where I would assume the chatting would go on.

Any ideas what's going on?
