Thanks to pichu2000 for his explanation.

After that, i hope we can keep only a polygon for superposing texture into a block (flower etc...).
In future, i think it will possible to create an moutain or any complex creation in the Map.

Yes, this is exactly what we need for a map editing tool. After all, like I said... it is based on 3D map editing. And that is also what is used in most 3D editing tools.

Firstly... there's width, secondly... there's height and thirdly... there's depth.

And that... explains the three dimentions.

X = width
Y = height
Z = depth

But with 2D on the GBA and earlier, you've only got width and height, right? xD

Great to see that we've finally been shown an image of a 3D editor. Now for the part of making one... I just wonder how to make a 3D editor that will edit the objects in the 4th and 5th generations? 'Cause to be honest... I have never made a tool that edits a ROM before (if only if I learned how to xD).

I'm looking forward to a new mapping interface, I'm so adapted to the DS editing that I have trouble editing the GBA now ('cause I'm not used to it xD).

The DS editing is much more advanced and more easier to locate the files to edit, so many tools that could be able to be selected with a main NDS editor. In a way... it's not that it's hard or anything, it's more of the case that it will take alot more time than the previous handhelds. After opening up the DS generation... I'm sure it will open up alot more ideas to many people to see ways of creating tools that will edit any kind of ROM.

The next thing on the list of creating a Pokémon DS map editor is...
Creating a 3D interface that will read the map data.
  • Creating a program to open up the ROM
  • Editing a single part of a map
  • Changing a movement permission
  • Planning a 3D interface
  • Creating a 3D interface that will read the map data
  • Creating a function that will move an object or model around on the 3D interface
  • Creating a function that will change the size of movement permissions and edit them
  • Create a function that will allow you to change the location of the map
  • Allowing sprites to be viewable on the interface
  • Having an object, model, texture and animation editor. (optional, but can be added later)
  • A weather editor
  • Having a list of normal objects and models to choose from that will show a 2D picture of the object or model read from an angle of the object or model that is read directly from the ROM, not from an actual picture.

Good luck on the map editor, Link_971. I'm so looking forward to seeing the next SVN with a 3D interface.
And here's a tutorial if you need help with anything for creating a 3D object or interface.

First off, it isn't the first ds editor for those posters
Hex editors are what I've been using to map my hack New Red. Plus there are a few buggy editors, best one I've seen was one by toolmaker Mewthree9000, it was basically a confusing editor without a preview.

But it worked

I hope this is real, I've only seen 5 fake ones before.

At the bottom of the first post, there is a link to Google Code, there should be some downloads there under the "Downloads" section.

- Creating a 3D interface that will read the map data

Planned (Yet Another Map Viewer engine)

- Creating a function that will move an object or model around on the 3D interface
Not possible at this time (except if anyone else improves YAMV source)

- Creating a function that will change the size of movement permissions and edit them

Good idea, but i don't know how to make this function

- Create a function that will allow you to change the location of the map

You mean Map Matrix editor? Yes, planned

- Allowing sprites to be viewable on the interface
Not possible and useless

- Having an object, model, texture and animation editor. (optional, but can be added later)
Not possible and useless (DS Model Texture Hacker for models, TileMolester for textures and animations)

- A weather editor
Planned, but i don't find anything about this
(I search to improves my map music editing function, too)

- Having a list of normal objects and models to choose from that will show a 2D picture of the object or model read from an angle of the object or model that is read directly from the ROM, not from an actual picture.
Maybe planned in another menu

If anyone have ideas for complete the editor, don't hesitate, and tell me what you think.

It's real, it's not a fake.
You can download SVN versions and try with your ROM.

You don't need to load anything.
Just open the tool, click on the first Map, and edit what you want.

It's not so simple at this time.
I need to work on each Map for apply the same functions.

The source code is messy, that's why i don't want release it.

Yay! A map editing program! I knew this would happen eventually. I remember when B/W map editing was discussed, I guessed that it would be essentially the same as the 4th gen. Looks like I was right. I can't wait until this is more developed!

I don't think it has compatibility for HGSS at the moment.

I think the texture editor does that. I'll have to take a look.

What do you mean?
Texture replacement is already an editing.

If you want "customize" the textures or any 3D object, you need to use an external program.

All Maps, not before many years.
The first Map for DPP HGSS BW versions : ~ 2011

That's easy for me, but my only problem is the time for include all possibilities to every object, texture, etc and test it.

Hm... I was actually thinking of a creative name for a map editor. "Dimensirome Map" (pronounced "Deh-men-she-roam Map") was what I came up with when I woke up one morning and was having a think about a map editor, it's a combination of the words 'Dimension' and 'Monochrome' I was originally intending to use it for my project, but since I lack the knowledge of the commands in Visual Studio, I'm unable to create any tool. So I've actually PM'd Link giving the URL knizz's source code for the map viewer, it should probably help with creating the 3D interface, after all... the map viewer source code URL is available in this thread. The source code has been untouched for quite a while. Combining this with Link's map editor... will make this into the very first true map editor for the 4th and 5th generations. Also Link, feel free to use my creative name for your map editor.

I can't compile or use YAMV sources.
I have a problem with the libraries used.

I can use PG4Map, but this viewer is old and not very friendly user.

So... if anyone can help me to import YAMV sources or improve the code of PG4Map, i'm ready to work on the 3D viewer.

When I try to open Diamond on this, it says that there is a problem opening the rom because part of the file is missing. Is something wrong with the rom or the editor?
