Hello and welcome to the TCG Weekly Discussion!

Every week starting from now on, I will be holding a weekly discussion meant to promote the amount of activity in the TCG forums. As many people as possible are encouraged to participate so discuss away!

WEEK 1 TOPIC

Dragons Exalted has been announced to be released on the middle August. Here in the spoiler below will show the translations for Mew EX. After taking a glance at Mew EX, how do you think Mew EX will affect the metagame? What future decks could be made out of this card?

Spoiler:
Mew-EX – Psychic – HP120
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Versatile
This Pokemon can use the attacks of all Pokemon in play as its own. (You still need the necessary Energy to use each attack.)

[P] Replace: Choose as many Energy cards attached to your Pokemon as you like, then reattach them to your Pokemon in any way you like.

When Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Psychic (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

I see it being used, but that low HP for an EX will probably make it a risky play. It's a possible Mewtwo counter, but it's basically only a 1-turn stopper at best.

Versatile + replace are really good moves actually so you can move around the energies. Bad part like donavannj said, it's very fragile Blastoise, Emboar, other Psychic types, and EXs are huge threats to it (even though Blastoise will be retired by then), it's as fragile as Shaymin EX. If I were to use this card (which I might) i'd give it an evolite.

Reallistically Mew is seeing a lot of use in Japan because although it's a low-HP EX, it still has the capability of using the attacks of ANY pokemon in play. And outside of Mewtwo vs. a psychic pokemon or anything with energy on it, most EX's in BW-on format aren't capable of dealing more than 100 damage in a single turn which makes the 120 HP less of an issue unless the deck that it's facing is running heavy Mew/Mewtwo lines, or if it enters at a point in the game where its likelihood of 1HKO is increased. It's great for an early-game setup or a late-game comeback.

Also being a low-HP 1-retreat 2-prize super tech attacker makes it a huge priority for the opponent to KO and will garner enough attention from your opponent to put them in an awkward situation where it's very difficult to read what you're going to do if they choose whether or not to knock it out.

Without Junk Arm and Shaymin UL, Pokemon EX(mainly the big 3: Mewtwo, Tornadus and Darkrai) simply lack the absurd power that they have in our current metagame. No Junk arms means decks have to play conservatively; and as such stage 2 pokemon see more play because catcher doesn't exist at a theoretical 8 and they stand a chance to setup. And without Shaymin UL energies can't all be simultaneously transferred without Klingklang or Hydreigon, and thus playing Max Potion is not always a risk-free play.

And from what I heard Mew EX sees play in the Gothitelle/Accelgor deck, so it doesn't really have a huge risk of getting KO'd since it shuffles back to the deck.

I think the Replace could be very helpful. Maybe there will be a way to make a MMT deck since CMT won't work in like a week.

Wait, what would be happening in a week that would make CMT not work? I thought this year's rotation was going to be after Worlds like it normally is instead of being in June like last year's.
