It doesn't really matter, for people that cannot hack or trade, they will have to obtain them normally by catching, but if you can hack/trade, go ahead and get all three at the beginning. And remember, your other 3 can be any Pokemon you desire for HM slaves.

Yes, you can battle with them, and raise/evolve them and stuff, just no level 100 sweeping through the game. Like Staraptor for example, if you have one for Fly, he can also know moves like Brave Bird and Close Combat, just catch them like normal and use them like normal Pokemon.

I'm not sure what you mean, You're going to have to specify three types, you don't have to use the HM slaves, but you have to use the three Pokemon I would give you. And I could give you three Pokemon that remind me of video games based on the types as I've played all kinds of video games.

Okay, if you still want them to be related to other games, how about:

Golurk, he reminds me of the ghost that lifts weights in Luigi's Mansion.
