[Spoilers] BW091 - Iris and the Roughneck Dragonite!

Summary: As Ash and his friends get ready at Cynthia's villa in the morning, there's suddenly a blackout throughout town. Officer Jenny visits Cynthia and tells her the Dragon Pokémon Dragonite is the cause of the blackout, but Iris, opposed to that theory, heads to the substation.

I've been looking forward to this episode since the preview of BW2, I really hope Iris shows some Dragon Master abilities and Dragonite joins her =D

Do you really think the writers are just going to give Iris a Dragonite? This screams Deino episode.

This tbh. The Deino episode was a perfect chance for Iris to adopt Deino but instead it was a pointless filler.

That would be boring and repetitive imo. );

Although the chances of her catching Dragonite are slim I do hope she catches it. Although it will be just her calming it down and sending it on its way.

Eh, I wouldn't call it a filler just because she didn't catch anything, it was a point turning point for her character development.

Giving her a Dragonite would, in my opinion, help live up to her status in B2/W2, although they aren't going to give her that status in the anime - at least they could do something to make up for it. I'd much prefer she get a Lapras though. :3

I don't really think Axew is going to evolve, so it would have been nice for Iris to catch a Deino and then have it evolve all the way to Hydreigon. That would have been so cool. c:

I kind of feel like she'll just be calming down the Dragonite :[ this sort of thing has been done before.

Although maybe they'll try and tie the games in with the anime, not so that Iris becomes Champion because the tournaments seem to work different in the anime, but maybe so that she becomes more of a battler too. (She did beat Ash in that Don Battle a while ago too). I just think its interesting that they chose Iris to be champion (who is also in the anime) instead of someone like Drayden who looks more like what you'd expect from an Elite Four/Champion. Or maybe they're trying to just surprise us again, like instead of a Gray Version they made two.

I don't see how it was character development. The episode was just Iris caring for a Deino and getting it out of its shell until its trainer arrived. Iris has already been shown to have a caring side. No character development was made tbh.

Really? Did we watch the same episode or what? Are we watching the same series?

First of all, in my opinion, tbh, it was probably one of the biggest turning turning points for Iris as a character. Although you are certainly right about showing her 'caring side' her as a character is/was much more than that. It featured Deino opening its heart to Iris, which goes along perfectly with her game title "The Girl Who Knows the Hearts of Dragons" which also goes along with her goal, and also goes along pretty well with what I discussed a while ago, about the anime slowly helping Iris live her to status/role in the games.

Another point, the last time Iris had real development before that episode was the Don battle tournament which was about 15 episodes before, taking away the fact that the only development that caused was 'winning a tournament' we'd have to go further back to "Iris and Excadrill Against the Dragon Buster!" I think I've made my point. The episode was necessary.

Gotta agree with Mew here
Monozu's episode was a development for Iris for she got some experience in her way to be the Dragon Master.
If it were some other Pokémon and not dragon type just like we have seen in the Tessed episode where she befriended Langray's Baivanilla it probably wouldn't affect her character development but since it WAS dragon type, it affected

I'd be fine with either one. Or even just a Dratini. Anything reasonable to add to her team and make her stronger.

A. It's not on her B2/W2 team. If she was to get a fully evolved dragon, would Hydreigon make more sense (yeah her team doesn't reflect B/W (Sans Axew technically) but ever since it was announced she was the new champ, everyone sees a Dragon or something that is on her team (like any Lapras) they scream "LAWDY IRIS GONE CAPTURE ET!" Like with those speculations, she isn't going to get it. The writers are just not gonna give her a fully evolved pseu legend.

B. If they were to give her a Dratini line Pokemon, giving her Dratini would make more sense. Heck alot of Pokemon would make sense, but a fully evolved like that? Not a chance.

We're definitely at the peak of Unova at the moment, I don't see why that would be out of the question. Iris already proved she has a background in battling, she's a skilled trainer. I don't think it be such a problem to see Iris capture it in it's fully evolved form. I'd actually very much like to see it actually, we've very rarely seen a main character capture a powerful Pokémon in it's last form. Dawn's an interesting example. Although she didn't capture her Mamoswine in it's last form, it quickly evolved from a Swinub to Mamoswine in a matter of 22 episodes, I honestly think this was a means of giving her a strong powerhouse, but reasonably from the start as she was still a new trainer. Seeing as we are at the peak of the series, I think giving her such a powerful Pokémon is actually very reasonable, it was be a little dull to give her a Dratini so close to the end of the series.

I can't say I think it'll happen, I'm just saying it's a possibility. I rather they take the advantage of a Lapras.

Your example doesn't work because...well even you admitted that Dawn got it as Swinub. Not to mention who is say it wasn't close to evolving anyway? Plus, we all know Piloswine has a special evolution. Finally, remember the whole point of her getting Swinub was to showcase a forth gen. Yeah, BW2 includes old Pokemon, but I mean it would still make more sense to give her toe Hydreigon then.

Also, she has a powerhouse (Excadrill...unless you forgot it was cast to Uber tier for a while...yeah Anime=/=game but what you're implying is she never had a powerful pokemon).

I mean again, it's not going to happen unless the writers decide to troll us in the fashion they did with Takuto/Trollbias.

Who doesn't count them? Everyone does. PM group who subs them counts them, Serebii counts them, Bulbapedia doesn't but that's because Bulba never counted missing episodes.

It's not really writers' policy to give main characters same Pokémon :D (Yeah I know about Cyndaquil but that had a reason :D Ice-Fire combo had to be done =D)

Also May's Venusaur before it evolved, Dawn and Ash both have Quilava (Could have been any fire type), Many of Ash's rivals have had Steelix.

I don't think the writer's care who has had what at this point. Given that they don't base things arounds stats that much, it depends how they wanna use it and how they make the personality. (Iris could get a super aggressive Lapras for example)

I honestly don't see why you'd find the fact that she'd catch a Pokémon in its final evolution to be such a revolutionary event. I mean, just because it isn't something we haven't seen before, it doesn't mean it's something we aren't ever going to see. The anime already broke out of its traditions with B/W by replacing Brock, and kinda returning to its first state at some points, so doing something as unlikely as letting one of the protagonists catch a strong third stage Pokémon isn't really something I'd find unlikely anymore.

Though in any case, Iris isn't the one that battles the important battles, so having such a powerful Pokémon doesn't mean all that much in comparison to how it would have been with Ash.

Replacing Brock is taking out a tired old joke (though now I sort of wish they didn't because...well to be honest Cilan is sort of boring now too). Iris getting a an angry pseudo-legendary? That's out and out stupid. (Well...then again it's not going to listen to her so)
