PANDORA
A Journey of the Fallen
OOC/SU Thread

CURRENT TIME OF DAY: MORNING
ATARA VILLAGE:
Spoiler:
It's been eight weeks since Dr. Arden Stone's message. After a tedious, three day long ferry ride, you finally make it to Pandora with the other travellers. You may have got to know them along the way, you might not have; it all depends on the kind of person you are.

Now that you're on Pandora, you can understand what the stories what about; dense forests can be spotted in the distance and everything just feels different. But first, maybe we should introduce the village...

Atara Village

The most populated area on the island, Atara Village is located in the southern most part of the Southern District. In the eight weeks that Pandora has been known to the public, already small cottages have been built to house a variety of people. Though not always bustling with people during the day (most people are out exploring while the sun is out), there's plenty to be done at night. Those who have found things good enough to sell are displaying them in the Marketplace, which are scattered along the shoreline. If you'd like to stay somewhere, there are a few inns located in town.

The main attraction of Atara Village is the temple in which the village is based around. If you want to have a look around, go for it but most of the explorers have cleaned out the place. The only thing left are some wild Pokémon and some broken pottery or something. Living at the very top of the temple (which you can reach from either taking the spiral staircase on the inside or the ramp on the outside) is another Geologist who runs a small medical clinic and PokéCentre, and who may have a job for you if you ask nicely.

If you like, you can get a head start and go north-east along the dirt path into the wilderness. Take note; the forests are dangerous at night as Pokémon are more hostile when they are woken. Or, if you've really got balls, there's a skinny path that leads to the north-west. People rarely take that way during the day, and don't even attempt during the night. The risks are far too great.

If you're thinking about stocking up before going out, try talking to the merchants; they may have more for sale than what they show.

October Carter -

The fog parted before the bow of the ship as October stood out front, arms wrapped across her body as the cold water particles brought goosebumps to her skin. A small blue elephant curled up around her feet, its trunk resting on October’s boot as it lay in a ball between her feet, small huffs of breath escaping its trunk making a small squeaking sound in the still night’s air. Ahead of them the vague outline of Pandora was slowly revealing itself to them the further into the fog they sailed. All around them was the still grey fog, the gentle lapping of waves and the starry night sky above; the moon full of light and casting down its brilliance on the moving vessel.

Three days, for three days they had been on the boat sailing towards the mysterious island of Pandora and October was starting to get restless being cooped up on board with the others. She had met the majority of them, even striking up a decent conversation with Alan Destin whom seemed like a decent enough character; even her Phanpy had managed to get along with his Poochyena. Other than that, many of the other recruit’s names had faded into the recess of October’s mind.

Within minutes however, one of the ships crewman approached October, holding a small, handheld torch, the beam light swaying from side to side with the motion of the ship. She held her hand up to her brow, turning around to gaze at the man as her Phanpy stirred between her feet.

“Ma’am, we will be docking in five minutes, if you could meet on the main deck, we can unload ya’ll onto Pandora.” October simply nodded, slightly thrown off by the light amidst the cold and darkness.

“Thanks,” was her only reply as she retrieved her leather jacket from atop the small Phanpy between her feet; the small elephant now padding around her feet dozily still somewhat asleep. She dropped the bag Laughner had supplied them with prior to boarding the boat; inside October had found basic necessities like water, blankets and a tarpaulin amongst other stuff as well as the ball that had previously held her Phanpy. While dozing, Phanpy had made the inside of the jacket quite warm, so when October put it on, she felt the residue warmth in the leather against her skin, shivering slightly.

As a sign of affection, the Phanpy butted its nose into October’s leg, but despite its small size, the Phanpy still managed to butt October enough to hurt, maybe even bring up a bruise. Wearily she gathered with the others on the main deck, shivering in the cool night air as Phanpy continued to play around October’s legs, walking round and round so that October almost tripped over the small blue elephant. Hands in pocket, she breathed in the night air, watching it hang in the night air as it left her mouth, waiting for the boat to dock in the rickety wooden dock of Atara Village.

October felt as if the land itself was swaying as she made her way off the boat, glad to be able to stretch her feet on solid ground instead of a tight, swaying wooden deck. Phanpy seemed happy too, rushing to the water’s edge to play in the tide. Laughing at the small Pokemon snort water out of its trunk as it ran along the seashore. Even though it was evening, the two had been cooped up on the boat long enough that it was just as good as midday to them. As they wandered aimlessly along the waterfront, stony sand sticking to boots and feet, October took a look around; the fog covered sea to the south while dense, foreboding jungle lay to the north of Atara Village. Along the seaside, residents huddled in their huts, all wrapped around a giant stone temple rising into the night sky.

Let’s go have a look, shall we?” October suggested, gesturing towards the monolith that stuck out like a sore thumb in the centre of the town.

“Phanpy-Phan!” The small elephant cried out.

While she could hear the tiredness in her own voice and the same in her Phanpy’s, they both had a earning to stretch their legs, and considering it was still rather early evening, they had plenty of time to explore before resting up for the next day. Chaning course, the two darted in between two huts, zipping in and out of the randomly placed huts that dotted the land. It took them a good ten minutes, but soon they stood before the monolith, gazing up to the very brim below the moon where artificial lights shone; paled in comparison to the moonlight above.

Stepping through the black portal into the dim ante-chamber of the temple, October and Phanpy took light steps, barely seeing the sandy floor a meter in front of them. Despite the somewhat lack of light emitted by the torches spaced far apart on the walls and the moonlight shining in the entrance behind them, the place seemed eerily quiet and scary; even more so at night than it would during the day. However eager to explore, they continued to walk through the ante-chamber, arriving into the massive open chamber. Hollowed out like a Halloween Lantern, the chamber had an eerie habit of resounding any noises made as well as making some of its own; sending chills up October’s spine. Scared, Phanpy cowered close to October’s feet as they made their way cautiously to the spiral staircase in the middle of the room.

Ascending the stairs, October found herself in similar chambers to the one she had been in; hollow and covered in a layer of sand hiding shards of pottery and stone from the Geological gold mining that had taken place. It seemed like nothing existed in here except the whistling wind and the swirling sand.

Jumping out of her skin, October scolded the small Phanpy for licking her leg; giving her a massive fright in the process, however Phanpy looked up at her hurt; as if he hadn’t done it at all. “Geez dude, don’t do that again!”

They ascended a couple more floors until again October felt Phanpy lick her leg, but as she gazed down to scold the small, blue elephant, she realised this time the lick had been on her left leg; Phanpy huddling to her right. She was startled when Phanpy let out a cry as white eyes began appearing in the darkness, followed by the rustling sound of wings. In moments, the two were swarmed by a colony of Zubats while the intermittent Ghastly stared menacingly at them from the darkness; licking any exposed skin.

October let out a high pitched scream as she tried to blindly fend off her attackers, while Phanpy Growled and tried to Tackle as many Zubat’s that got near; falling through any Ghastly it tried to attack. “Let’s get out of here!” She screamed over the flapping of wings and bolted for the spiral staircase; a thin beam of light shining from the top signalling only a couple of floors to go.

Heart racing and through staggered breaths, she did her best to climb up the stairs, but with the attacks of the Zubats persisting, it seemed like she would never make it to the top. Clothes torn to shreds and superficial gashes in exposed skin, she managed to make it out into the open, the moonlight showering her with hope as it lit the tiny path to a small hut surround by light. A man stood by the entrance and she waved at him, stumbling towards him; hurt and bleeding.

She was halfway there when she realised she could no longer feel the heat from her Phanpy pressed up against her leg. Turning around, she could just see the top of the cloud of Zubats, hovering around the top of the staircase; only a couple of steps down. Dropping her bag to the dusty ground, she instinctually grabbed the bottle of water from the side of the bad and half stumbled half ran back to the staircase. Unscrewing the water bottle, she emptied the contents, dowsing the colony of Zubats in liquid. Many drew back allowing October to see the scratched blue body of her Phanpy huddled in a defensive ball.

Shooing the rest of the Zubats away with croaky yells of anger, she managed to scare her way into the fray, and moving to push the exhausted Phanpy from behind. October felt her back being attacked by the Zubats, but continued to egg the Phanpy on, until the colony fluttered away into the night and the two stumbled towards the lit hut. October bent down to pick up the bag when from behind, she felt something collide with her body; sending her flying forward.

She rolled over on the ground to find Phanpy growling at a Zubat that fluttered in mid-air. “Tackle!” October croaked through cracked and bleeding lips, wincing every time Phanpy missed, plowing into the ground and whenever the Zubat successfully made a hit.

The fight carried on for some time, Phanpy putting up a good fight, getting one or two hits in before a roll of missed attacks, but as the fight went on, Phanpy who was already in a weakened state, began to become slower, missing even more and getting hit easier as the Zubat seemed not to tire out at all.

October cried out as a Supersonic attack from the Zubat left Phanpy in a daze; crashing into the ground or missing by a large margin. She crawled to her bag, trying to find something that could help, but she had not been given anything that would cure confusion. She watched helplessly as Phanpy managed to score a rather debilitating hit on the Zubat, making it falter slighty, but he still remained confused.

As a last ditch effort, October closed her hand around an item in her bag, pulling it out and tossing it towards the Zubat that tormented her Phanpy. In her luck, she had grabbed onto a PokeBall, the red and white sphere spinning through the air, hitting the Zubat on the back and absorbing it into its inner recesses. Now it was a waiting game, to see if the Zubat held fast and broke out of the ball, or was contained within it. October closed her eyes, crossing her fingers in a vain hope that a strike of luck would save them from any further conflict.

Antonio was woken up by a heavy knock on his cabin’s door. “We will be reaching our destination in a couple of minutes, sir. Please try and reach the main deck at your earliest convenience. Thank you and I hope you enjoyed your trip.” A male’s voice said before walking off.

Antonio groaned as he sat up, wiping the sleep from his pink eyes and put his glasses on. His long spiky hair decorated as well as hid his face from the world. He motioned to get up, when he felt a heavy weight on legs. He looked down to notice a blue and grey dinosaur resting on his legs, still snoring. He smiled at his new Pokémon, Cranidos, also known as Cranium, as the young Pokémon slowly woke up and yawned. The three day trip gave him amp amount of time to spend getting to know the guy and he instantly loved him. Cranium looked at him and smiled. “Hey Cranium time to get up.” He smiled at him as he got up and did his morning regiment; brushing his teeth, taking a shower, exercising, doing his hair, etc. After his morning routine, Antonio threw on a red thermo, a pair of black jeans and some tan boots. He top the outfit off by pulling his hair into a ponytail and putting a red hat on.

He checked his knapsack as he was ready to leave, making sure he put up his PokeDex he took out the night before. After the double check, he picked up Cranium’s pokeball, examine it and then attached it to his belt loop. “Come on, Cranium. Time to go.” Antonio informed his Pokémon. The little dinosaur smiled before leading the way out of the little bunker. When he got to the main deck, he noticed that he was the only one on the deck. Whether he was early or late he didn’t really know. As he looked around he also noticed it was really foggy and dark. He looked towards the island and seen a little settlement that was lit up with many lights and had a huge temple. As he exited the ship, he seen many people and Pokémon walking around the settlement walking, talking and training.

As he walked, he saw a man who claimed to be selling goods for good prices. The man looked in his mid-thirties, he was at least a foot taller than Antonio, with a lanky built. He had blue eyes and short brown hair. Antonio approached the merchant to see what kind of merchandise the trader had.

“Hello, my good sir and welcome to Atara Village. My name is Richard.” The merchant said to the approaching Antonio.

“Hello, I’m Antonio. I heard you say you had some merchandise for sell?” Antonio acquired.

“Well you heard right. I have been on this settlement for about four weeks now and I have a collected a bunch good merchandise to sell. Here take a look.” He said as he grabbed a backpack off his back. He open it up and spew the contents all over a blanket in front of him.

Antonio took a second to look over the goods. “Well I’ll take five Potions and 2 Pokeballs.” Antonio requested.

“Coming right up,” He said as he gathered the bought items, “Now that will be $1,150 poke.” He said. After Antonio paid him, he handed Antonio his newly purchase items. “So you are here for Pandora?” Antonio nodded as he put his items up. “Well you can go to the temple, it has a PokeCenter at the top with Geologist up there. Inside the temple, is a bunch of wild Pokémon but it is cleaned out by the earlier settlers. So it mostly ruins. So you can go there and you can either reach the top through the inside or simply walk up the ramp. Unless you’re really looking for an adventure then I would recommend going to the forest northeast of here. Even though Pokémon are known to be really hostile at night and it’s just the right amount of danger for an adventure. Now if you just want to die or hate your life, you could take a skinny path to go northwest of here. I, myself, recommend you stay at the inn and get goods nights rest before going anywhere but that’s just me. But I have to go, got a bunch of stuff to sale, you have a goodnight now and be safe.” The merchant said as he walked off leaving Antonio to ponder.

Antonio took the time to think of his next move. He looked down at Cranium, as Cranium was staring him in the face. “Well the skinny path is definitely out of our league. I don’t know about you but I love life.” Antonio joked with Cranium. Cranium smiled up at his trainer and giggled like it caught the joke. “We do need some training and I don’t really like taking the easy way out of things, so I opt the forest. What about you, Cranium?”

“Cran, cran, dos!” Cranium agreed.

“Well, then it’s settled. To the forest we go.” Antonio said as he and Cranium started walking. As they traveled through the village, they saw a couple more inns and merchants. The lights that lit up the village started to become fewer as they hit the edge of the Southern District.

Robert Hawkins

Only a single desk light illuminated Robert's room. Just visible in the gloom was his silhouette, sat at the desk, sorting through various papers and books. The pieces of paper consumed the desk or at least would have if not for what would appear to be a statuette in one corner.

"Pass me the red book over there, please." The statue turned suddenly and jumped from the desk. It scuttled across the mounds of papers and books covering the floor until it stopped before one of the smaller, neater piles and selected a book from the bottom. Clutching it awkwardly between its arms it walked back and offered the book to Robert. He accepted it and laid it on his desk before turning back to the small, humanoid, pseudo-statue. "Thank you, your getting better at carrying them without damaging them. Those little blades may be useful weapons but they are a scourge against literature." Robert lifted the statue into the light and chuckled. "Well little pawniard, we'll be docking soon. We should get our bag and head above deck."

A knock came at the door shortly after. "Come in! It's unlocked," Robert called. The door opened slowly revealing a man surrounded by the light of the hallway.
"Dr. Hawkins, we'll be docking shortly. As requested your documents will be returned to your office once we have made our return journey." Robert nodded, thanked the man and continued to search for the bag Laughner had supplied him.

A few minutes later Robert and his pawniard were above deck watching as the boat made its final manoeuvres into the port. It was nice to stretch his legs again but Robert wished he had more time to look at the maps and information he collected before boarding. Three days to pour over what he had managed to gather suddenly seemed too little. Almost none of his time on the boat was spent socialising and as such Robert had met few of his fellow passengers. The cold night air sent a shiver through Robert's spine as the others gathered around him readying to disembark. He recognised some faces of course but he could not match names to them. A shout went up from the shore to confirm the boat was secure. They began to disembark from the ship. Taking the first steps into a new world.

Robert walked into the centre of Atara village, looking around as he did so. The houses were rag tag affairs hastily constructed for the temporary accommodation of settlers and workers. They swarmed around the base of a large temple like bees around a hive. "Well Pawniard, a sensible man would find the inn and get some sleep...but Im sure a closer look could do no real harm..." They wandered off to the ancient building looming before themin a way that both warned of dangers and whispered of treasures.

The pokemon and its trainer arrived at the base of the temple a few minutes later. Robert ran his hand along the engravings adorning the archway. "These engravings are so masterful. Looking at its age! Such precision shouldnt have been possible...fascinating. I could write papers purely on this archway!" He pulled the water from his pack and poured a small amount over the largest and most intricate looking engraving. The caked on grime was quickly washed away and Robert went back to inspecting it. "Without other samples to compare and contrast its difficult to glean a meaning. I have nothing to take a tracing of it with...We'll have to leave this for now." He peered within the temple. A deep sticky black was all that was visible. It seemed to stick to his eyes as he gazed within. It was a mesmerizing darkness that pulled him in. His breath hung in front of him as the cool air turned it to mist. Robert fought to pull himself away. "Well it would be foolish to explore without some light....I cant bring myself to leave it until tomorrow though. Perhaps the merchants will have something we can use."
"Paw-niard!" The Pawniard nodded at its trainer showing approval.

The pair continued to wander through the village until they stumbled upon the market. Wandering from stall to stall they saw people selling food and others selling clothing. It was a while before they found a man with various exploratory items for sale.
"Excuse me sir! Do you happen to have a torch or lantern of some kind?" Robert waited patiently for the man to reply.

"Stop right there!" A man dressed in a uniform, probably late 20s, approached Antonio with a firm stare. He stood in front of Antonio, leaning down to look at him in the eyes. "I don't know who you think you are but this road is closed." He gestured to an extremely thick tree collapsed over road. There were a few men around it with a Charmeleon, a Flareon and a Golduck trying to burn the tree without creating an enormous fire.

"A tree came down last night during the storm. It should be dealt with by the morning, kay? In the meantime, why don't you check out the temple if you want an adventure?" with a final stare, the man turned back around to help get rid of the tree.

"Hmm?" the merchant looked up at the man who had approached him. "Oh, well, I don't have lanturns but I do have this," the man placed a basic Pokéball on the counter. It wasn't empty, that much could be seen. "It's a freshly hatched Magby. One of the travellers who disembarked here had a bunch of eggs he was selling. You look like a respectable man. I will give you this Magby for 1500P, a very special price indeed. You can't even get them for this much on the mainland. What do you say?"

The merchant winked with a smile on his face.

"You might be able to earn back some of that gold if you can also do me a quick favour."

.... ....

Julius had his ear firmly placed on the flaky, wooden boards of the well-built ferry as it swayed back and forth in the waves. It seemed as if the sea was singing some kind of soft lullaby, echoing the words through every wave. The ship was relaxed and striding calmly through the vast and brilliant water…. As it should’ve, because today was certainly not the day the sea would decide to engulf all those who inhabited the ferry and deliver them to their final resting place.

“Sir.” Said a sailor cautiously but firmly at the curious man. Yielding no response, the man made a second attempt, even slower than the first. “Sir?”

“Ssssshhhh.” Julius hissed, cutting the man’s words off. “Shattup.”

“….Sit up?”

“Ssssshhhh!” Julius scolded, emitting the sound louder than the first. “Do you want to scare ‘em awai, lad?”

“Scare who away, sir?” The foolish sailor said, continuing his doomed journey into the conversation.

“Nat whom, what.”

“What?”

“What.”

“What?!”

“Exactly!” Julius yelled inappropriately loud and snapping his fingers, causing a few of the other travelers to turn their head from their obviously important lives. Proceeding to replace his ear back on the board he was previously fixed on, the sailor questioned existence before returning to what he came for in the first place.

“Well, um, yes. Anyway sir, I would just like to inform you that we’ll be docking in a few minutes.”

“Docking?!” Julius blurted out as his back shot up. “Whom said you could dock, lad?!”

“T- the captain?”

“Unacceptable!” Julius screamed as he jumped to his feet and pointed his finger to the sky in protest. How dare this injustice stand where he was currently standing! Who does this injustice think it is?!

“Excuse me?” The sailor questioned.

“How unapproachable of you. Not tellin’ me shuner! I could’ve had a pot’a’soup or asparagus readi hours ago! How does one expect me to carry on now?!”

“Pot of what?”

“Pot of what? No, lad! Dat’ta be disgustin’! What is for and in the sea sounds, mi’lad. I’ma talkin’ about soup.”

“Soup?!”

“Or asparagus! Do you not listen?!”

“If- If you’re hungry sir, we can certainly bring you up whatever leftover rations from the trip we have left….”

Julius turned his head with a face transformed in something maddening. The sailor’s eyes grew into terrified globes coated in panic as Julius began to approach him slowly. Before the sailor’s feet could properly take a step backwards, Julius had already leaped and grabbed the man’s collar. As his teeth barred and the sailor’s life flashed before his eyes, Julius opened his mouth and-

“Yes, that sounds lovely!” Julius said in the most cheerful voice he could muster. “Some crackers too, eh lad?”

As Julius released the man’s collar, the sailor’s muscles melted into butter and his body lumped carelessly on the floor beneath them. Julius furrowed his brow and frowned disapprovingly.

“Aye, doing that will certa’nly not get me that soup ani fasta.”

.... ....

“Now please, if all of you can step in a single-file line.” The captain said, motioning the group onto the shore. Like directed, the people around Julius quickly got off the boat in a neat, single-file, boring, line. Julius eyed the captain as his turn came up, being the only person left to get off. “Sir, is everything all right?”

“Yes.” Julius quickly shouted out, looking back and forth between the exit off the boat and the captain. He reached for his satchel, digging out the large piece of tarpaulin Laughner gave him.

“If you feel uneasy, I’m sure we can-“

“Nah uneasiness!” Julius blurted as he took two corners of the tarpaulin and began to tie them around his neck, over his robe.

“We can certainly walk you down if the height makes you-“

“Tarpaulin man!” Julius yelled out as he ran towards the side of the ferry, pushing the captain to the ground, and leaping like a superhero into the forbidding sea below.

As the sailors quickly attended to their captain, Julius swam around amongst the lullaby waves, whispering some kind of theme song for his newfound identity.

.... ....

Julius slammed his bottom onto the sand below him as he sopped with water. He had a strange red-and-white device in his hands that he squinted at with ample curiosity that didn’t recall finding in his satchel before then, and he certainly didn’t place it there. It was too strange. Much too strange. No…. it was perfectly strange. Excellently strange. Or was it weird? Odd? Queer? What brand of strangeness was it?

Suddenly, the ball shot open and Julius cursed as he threw it onto the ground. A scarlet beam began to fade as it materialized a floating, rocky orb creature that huffed yellow-brown clouds of smoke from what looked to be craters. It began to wobble in the air, somehow losing its footing (guessing you can call it that) in the air and promptly falling onto the ground.

“Koffffiiiiiiiinnnngggg.” The monstrosity moaned, evidently hurt.

“What in blazes are you, you little scamp-thing? Ya look like an orb of mystery.” Julius said to the creature, unknowing what to think of it. It looked up at him, frowning and whimpering a little, wondering why he wasn’t doing something to take away the pain.

“Koff.” It squeaked.

“Listen to tha squeak! High voice…. Must be a girly then, am’i’rite, lassie?”

“Koff?” The pokemon asked, trying to understand her master. Julius picked the orb up from the sand to her surprise and began to examine her. The creature was fairly small and soft for its rocky appearance, so it had to be relatively young.

“How rudimentary-like!” Julius exclaimed at his new companion, who stopped whimpering and found herself soaked into the activity of her master. Julius threw her onto the ground and stood up, and the Koffing rolled a bit to look up at her trainer.

“Do you know how to dance a jiggy, my lass of orb-iggy?” He asked at the creature, who smiled at the silliness of the sounds. Julius began to stoop to his knees move his arms up and down in some kind of dance. The Koffing began to laugh and moving a bit to dance with him as her master bounced up and down.

.... ....

Julius carried his orb of mystery as he strolled confidently through…. whatever this town was called ….looking for some kind of adventure. He was disappointed by the quietness of what tried to be hustle and bustle. Bored, he strolled up to some kind of merchant.

“Ah, hello. I-“

“Dafrack is this?” Julius asked, picking up what seemed to be some feline-like statuette of some sort.

“Oh- oh?” The merchant cooed, regaining his understanding. “Ah. Yes. That’s a fine piece of merchandise you have there, stranger. It’s supposedly a statuette of the-“

Julius threw the statue across his shoulder and it crashed onto the side of a nearby building. The merchant gasped as he saw one of his favored little trinkets explode into a cloud of white dust and broken shards of porcelain. His face flushed into a shade of red anger.

“You-!” he huffed.

“Do’ya’knu of any adventure lying arund here, sir-lad-sir?” Julius interrupted, leaving the man to choke on the fumes of his frustration.

“Why would I-?” The merchant said before suddenly stopping and getting an idea. “Well, actually, yes. In fact, I’ve heard that skinny path to the north-west of town is full of great adventure. I think I saw a man go down there earlier carrying a lot of gems with him too; perhaps you should find him and see if he will share his loot.”

The merchant giggled at his statement as the man in front of him gave a puzzled look. Everyone knows that you would probably die if you headed down that path. All kinds of creepy noises have been heard from that side of the forest, and it’s not like- what where was the weird man going. Why is he yanking that torch off that building and heading….?

Oh.

Oh no.

Antonio was slightly upset that his adventure had been postpone because of the accident but there was nothing he could do. As much as he loved and believed in Cranium, he knew his limits and even if magically got by Charmeleon and Flareon because of type difference, it would have been straight torture to have his young Cranidos go against a Golduck. Sadly, but truthfully, to say, that Golduck would have whipped the floor with Cranium. He looked down at Cranium and saw that the little blue dinosaur was upset too.
He open his mouth to say, something to it, when all of a sudden he walked smack dab into a wall.

Antonio rubbed his head and looked up to see what he walked into. The first thing he saw when he looked up was unrecognizable, enchanting writing on the wall. The writing was so alluring, he felt like he was staring at the drawings for forever. It wasn’t until he felt a nibble at his hand, that he came out of his trance. “Ouch, Cranium!” He yelled. Cranium just looked at him smiling. “Not funny, big head.” He laughed as Cranium gave him the evil eye. Antonio smiled as he proceeded to stand up. When he was full standing, he finally noticed what he had run into. “So this is the temple up close, huh. Looks cool.” He said admiring the height and drawings.

As Antonio was admiring the temple, he heard low sounds of flapping from the entrance of the temple. Antonio smiled as he thought of what the sound could be. “Hmm… lets see flapping wings, dark abandon cave. That must be the sounds of a Zubat!” Antonio exclaimed. “Come on, Cranium lets go catch a Zubat, then I can train to grow into a powerful Crobat!” Antonio said excitedly as he rushed into the entrance of the cave.

When he entered, he could tell it has been ransacked by the way the room was in ruins. Antonio started to explore around, battling two Digletts and dodging a Gastly on the way through the ruins. As he got near the stairs he saw that Cranium was walking funny and looking confused. He knew he just healed it with a Potion, so it should have been ok. He pulled out his PokeDex to check and make sure. As he read it, he seen that Cranium was at full health but he did notice he was confused. “What the heck happen to you,
Cranium?” Antonio question worried.

“Zuuuuuuuuuuuuu!” A Zubat screeched as he dove down on to Cranium’s head as it tried to use Leech Life. As soon as it sapped some energy from the dinosaur it was back airborne. Cranium didn’t even seem to notice.

“Headbutt, Cranium!” Antonio ordered his Pokémon. Cranium got in the headbutt stance but instead of hit Zubat, it slammed hard into a wall. “Cranium you ok?” Antonio acquired as his Pokémon groaned in pain. Zubat flew down and performed another Leech Life. This time when he did it, Cranium grumbled in pain.

“Cranium, snap out of it!”Antonio yelled at his Pokémon. Cranium shock it off the confusion and stood ready to fight. “Good job, Cranium. Now use Leer!” Cranium leered at the Pokémon, intimidating it. Zubat used it’s flapping wings to cause a Supersonic attack.
“Dodge it, Cranium!” Antonio commanded. Cranium rolled out of the way, but as he rolled right into Zubat’s Leech Life attack. As he drained Cranium, Cranium used Headbutt and rushed into a wall with Zubat still attached causing him to take major damage and let go.

“Zuuuuuu!” The Pokémon screeched in immersive pain. “Great job, Crainum.” Antonio said surprised how the Pokémon came up with the attack on his own. He looked at his Cranidos and knew even without checking the PokeDex, that Cranium was on his last leg. “Ok, Cranium while he is still in pain, Headbutt!” Cranium charged with the rest of his energy and connected his head with Zubat sending him flying. While Zubat was still airborne, Antonio flung a pokeball at it, hitting it on its left wing. Red light engulfed the Zubat before falling to the ground shaking.

Richard Lee Ambrose

Richard stepped off the ferry onto the shores of the mythical Pandora, watching the other 'hunters' rush off to begin their explorations, but not one of them seemed to have any appreciation for the gravitass of just where they were.

This was Pandora. A place of legend that up until a short time ago was believed to be non-existant. They were standing on a myth so unlikely, so intangible, it could fall away from under them at any moment. And so it seemed to be that Richard, at sixty three years old, was the only one to stop before setting off on his great adventure and look around. With a broad grin on his face he took in the sights, the sounds, the smells and marvelled at his good fortune. And then a bushy tail slapped him in the face.

"Tret."

Richard sighed, brushing the tail away. He had been provided with a Sentret by Laughner, and the poor creature had been atrociously ill for the duration of the ferry trip, refusing point blank to enter its pokeball. He had tried giving it space, carrying it, stroking it, but for some reason the only thing that seemed to make the little creature feel any better was riding around on top of Roger's head. It lended to lie on its stomach, giving him the appearance of wearing an odd tailed-cap, much like how explorers were often depicted.

"Are you alright up there?"
"Sen."
"Well, I suppose you want me to get a move on."
"Tretsen sentret."

...Well, whatever it was saying, he couldn't just stand around. It was time to start on the adventure he had been waiting his entire life for. Double checking that his backpack was secure Richard set off into Pandora, eager to see what awaited him. Would it be everything he had expected?

...Well, he certainly hadn't expected this. In the short time since Pandora's discovery the place had been practically colonised, with quickly assemled dwellings and vendor stands. Although not what he had expected his first destination on Pandora to be, a merchant was a good beginning. Laughner had provided them with some supplies, but really only enough for one (two at the most) days trek through the wilderness. It seemed unlikely that all of Pandora was so well populated with other people, who knew when else he would have a chance to stock up on food and water?

Approaching the stall Richard could see that the merchant was currently occupied with one of the other passengers, so he decided to examine the available merchandise while he waited his turn. He'd had very little experience with the other hunters during the journey here, younger people rarely made time for old geezers like himself. Half the time they didn't even notice him.

He took a cursory glance through the merchants stock until his eyes were drawn to a glyph, and some kind of rock. They both seemed a little out of place amongst the more practical items on offer.

Rin Shavi
Dig Dug

It was quiet, Rin laid down on the roof the ferry, holding a single from the bag Laughner gave to her in front of her face. She'd never had money before, back on the mainland she lived in the forest, stealing things she needed from various settlements, earning herself a spot as a nameless bandit. She pondered what to do with it, she wasn't one to actually need, or really even want money. She put the back in her bag and then put the bag in her backpack, she didn't want to let everyone know the contents of the bag so she refused to transfer the contents to her backpack until she was in a private area. She stood up and stretched to see that a giant landmass had appeared in front of the ferry. After a 3 day voyage, Rin had finally arrived at Pandora. She saw the island and cried in awe of its beauty.

"Now docking in Atara Village," yelled the captain. Rin dropped off of the roof and departed from the ship. She looked left and right several times while walking through the village. She wasn't sure whether she was okay with nature being ravaged by civilization, but she decided to explore. She notices quite a few explorers. Some of them were going to the various vendors stationed around the village to supply for items; others were setting up to go to sleep; and then there were some setting out to explore. Rin then came upon the temple, mysterious as it was. She decided to go in, but only after checking out the vendors. She'd never actually bought anything before, but the idea was pretty straightforward; simply match the number of to that of the item that you want to buy. Easy enough. Food wouldn't be a problem, but water might be. She wasn't too fond of the idea of repels, but she wasn't exactly sure how different Pandora was to home in terms of danger. She decided not to get them, in the long run, as she surmised that it might agitate her senses. Then there was the rock and the glyph. Their mysterious and exotic nature made them both very attractive choices for Rin, but she didn't have the money for both. She started biting her left pointer finger out of frustration, she was at a loss of which to pick, and the area was too open for her to steal anything. She finally decided to buy the Stone Glyph and a bottle of Fresh Water, coming to a total of 1200.

Rin then came to the Temple. It was dimmly lit, but still mysterious enough that it excited Rin. She ran inside, not knowing what to expect. The temple was dimly lit, but still bright enough that she was able to see in front of her (somewhat). She descended some steps fairly close to the entrance and continued down the path that was in front of her. Then, she tripped and fell on something on the ground. "Ouch..." she said, rubbing her chin which she fell on. Then, in front of her appeared a Diglett. "Were you the thing that I tripped on?" She said in a sympathetic tone. "Actually, now that I'm alone, I can look through this bag that Laughner gave me." She leaned up against the wall and pulled out the bag Laughner had given her. The Diglett, intrigued, watched her as she was doing this. "Darn bag barely even fit in my backpack." She first took out the pack of matches. "What is this for?" She asked herself. She thought about it really hard for a few minutes, sensing a familiar feeling about them. "...Oh! The fire sticks daddy used to use!" She said abruptly. "Apparently they're called matches," she said, reading the package. She stuck the matches in her fanny pack and moved on to the others. She took out a knife next. The knife was slightly heavier than her current one, but opted to keep it so that she could use both at the same time and placed it in her fanny pack. Next she pulled out the potions, conveniently labeled for their restorative purposes and usage; she placed them in her backpack, along with the escape rope, tarpaulin, the water, and blanket. Then came the Pokeballs. Nostalgia came over her, she hadn't actually held one since she was a young child. She'd seen hunters and trainers use them, but she preferred not capturing them the old fashion way- but not for keeping, usually for food. She looked at the Diglett, who was staring at her with innocent eyes, and then she put the pokeballs in her fanny pack. Separate from the other pokeballs was another pokeball, and it seemed to be heavier than the others. She pressed the button on the front of the pokeball and then the top popped open, a light spewing forth from it, and out came an Electrike. Rin stared at the Electrike, and the Electrike stared at Rin, the Diglett moving his gaze from one to the other. The Electrike then walked up to Rin's leg and rubbed its head against it, making her skin tingle from the electric current running through the small creature's fur. Rin laughed and said "That tickles!" She then thought for a second and said, "So, what should I name you?" She lost herself in thought for a few minutes and said, "I've got it! Your name is Feign, it's such a cool name, don't you think?" The Electrike let out a decisively energetic bark. "Alright then, Feign, let's go!" She said, waving to the Diglett that kept her company and heading further into the temple, with Feign following behind.

Eventually she came to a dead end. She was about to turn and leave when suddenly smoke appeared. There was no discernible entity in the smoke, it was simply smoke, and then...
...out of the smoke appeared a face. Rin took a defensive position, and then she remembered that there was one more object in the bag, a Pokedex. She pressed a button, and the Pokedex started going into introductory information, something she didn't have time for, but it was fine for the time being, the face's main purpose was to scare her. She put the bag away and hurriedly took out her Light Knife. She dashed towards the Gastly and attacked, but she went right through it. "This isn't good..." Feign started barking at the face. It gazed at Feign, and then Feign simply lost the strength in its legs. Rin ran over to Feign, yelling "Feign! Are you okay?" She then desperately looked to the object in her hand for help. It was pointed at the face (inadvertently), and started speaking, saying "Gastly, a Gas Pokemon; Gastly is a Ghost Type Pokemon that appears as a ball of smoke." Of course, a Ghost Type, no wonder I can't hurt it! Well this is bad... Upon hearing the words of the Pokedex, the Gastly revealed itself.
She was surrounded by smoke, all of which was the single Gastly. It prepared to attack, and Rin hopelessly took a defensive position. Then, as if to save the day, the Diglett used Sand Attack, blinding the Gastly temporarily. It led Rin towards the direction that led to the stairway she came up. Rin picked up Reign and followed it, and the Gastly followed her. Unfortunately, the Diglett was unable to climb the stairs, so it decided to stay behind. Rin, however, wasn't able to simply leave it behind and hurriedly threw a pokeball at it.

Route 5

Unlike it's eastern counterpart, Route 5 is dangerous and not for the faint of heart, especially during the night. Wild Pokémon are unusually hostile and nobody can really figure out why. Are they just protecting their territory and their young or is there something else?

Route 5 is a skinny road with a unclear path; those with enough courage to brave the road often trip on tree roots and stub their toes on heavy rocks. To trek across the entirety of Route 5 would take an entire day. So taking this route unprepared would be unwise. It does serve as a shortcut between Atara Village and a large campsite, the largest in the Southern Region, named Ningjing camp.

About halfway down Route 5 is another path which curves off to the left. Where does it lead to? You'll have to check it out to see.

If you're going to take Route 5, best take a friend.

Benjamin Whistler

This ferry ride was full of new experiences for Benjamin. It was the first time he had puked on a boat, the first time he had been on a boat, the first time he had travelled to a new region, the first time he had ever owned a Pokémon. His Rufflet, nicknamed Lucy, didn't really help though with the sea sickness; she had just kind of sat there, looking at him rather worridly. He appreciated her sympathies (if that's what it was) but maybe she should have brought him some ginger tablets.

He almost fell over when he hit try land, still dizzy and wobbly from the boat. He sat there for a moment, trying to find his land legs, then lifted his arms to pull himself up. Still shaky, he pulled his backpack over his shoulder and ventured into Atara Village.

"Notably large structure, looks like a temple. Bustling marketplace during the night. Already a village constructed. Forest to the north."

He took a few pictures with his camera, thanking his lucky stars that Laughner had given it to him to keep. The camera seemed to have infinite storage and according to his editor, would upload all of his pictures to the cloud for storage. The only thing he wished he had was a laptop so he could begin to compile everything together. No matter.

His eyes spotted one of his fellow travellers which Laughner had hired, the eldest one of the lot. Benjamin admired him and his courage. In the long and painful three days he had known him, Benjamin had snuck looks at the man's research. It was wonderful.

"Ex-excuse me, s-sir. Mr. Am-ambrose, sir," Benjamin walked up to the man, camera ready. "Can I pl-please get a photo, photo of you? For Mr. Laugh-Laughner's reports, of c-c-course."

.... ....

The entrance was simple and albeit impressive. Although just a gradual parting of trees that allowed a forced dirt path to exist in it, it seemed as if the road wasn’t too careful, the vegetation would once again consume it and claim it as its own. Julius looked back where he came from. He was on the outskirts of town and beginning to become separated with the artificial lights of the settlement, and the orb of mystery in his hands began to whimper a little at the darkness that shrouded the path ahead that didn’t get blessed with the torch’s light that Julius now held in his right hand. It was dark, and getting darker by the minute.

“Now this is it? Sum foll this man was. Fella culd get lost’in’ere.” As he rocked the strange Pokémon in his arms to comfort it a little. He looked at the Koffing with caring, but still crazed eyes. “Dun you worry, orb of mystery. Nuthin’ I can’t solve, mind ye.”

And with that, Julius headed out onto the path, the darkness consuming the particles of light that dare try and follow him.

.... ....

The trees were damp and the designated path had been intercepted by invading moss and tiny rivers. It was still there, but much less noticeable. Julius puzzled over his new surroundings, not scared, but feeling the aura of something…. violent. He began to smile and direct his eyes into the black miasma that surrounded the light emitted from his torch. The Koffing that resided in his arms dared not to say a word or even make a sound as it was scared senseless of this new blackness surrounding every nook and corner. So thus, as the only sound besides the faint droplets of water swimming in the rivers, Julius’ footsteps echoed loudly as it hit the dirt below.

Suddenly, Julius stopped. He felt something on his foot. Looking down, he noticed a coat of what seemed to be silk. Moving his torch ahead of him, he noticed the substance covered a large portion of the ground to this right, until it hit a water-soaked tree. The silk weaved itself like a parasite on the bark of the branches, and traveled up the tree and on to its uppermost branches, where Julius saw something more…. something red covered in the silk on top of a large, drooping leaf. Whatever it was, it was sleeping.

Moving his torch and stepping a bit closer to the tree, Julius began to notice more and more of these creatures up and down along the tree, attached securely and safely along the bark. Wurmple, he finally realized as he recognized one of the worm’s faces enough through the silk. Pudgy little Wurmple.

A rustle came from behind Julius. Sharply turning his head and back, the man heard a quick rustle afterwards before it stopped completely, whoever or whatever was nearby evidently having rushing off or in hiding.

“Blady things,” Julius commented on the creatures as he came back to them. Julius was never himself fond of weak and “pudgy” newborn bugs. They needed so much attention and security before they were ready to battle on their own. And worse yet, they were sleeping. So defenseless. A hungry Pidgeotto and two of its friends could easily clean off this tree and all that preparation from the Beautiflies and Dustox for the colony’s next generation would be in vain. All of their children would’ve been found with their guts spilled out and their skin torn to pieces, that is if the Pidgeottos got too full and fled before they gobbled up every bit of the worms. And what would the Wurmples have in defense if most of them awoken at the beginning of the attack? Even teasing the notion that their protective silk would allow them to squirm away from the tree, what if the Pidgeotto came after them? What attack do they have at their disposal? String shot? Maybe a tackle? And what if they woke up, were able to squirm away, and avoid the birds all together? It would probably be so frightened that it would keep going and pass out. Once it woke up, it would be in unfamiliar territory.

Its parents wouldn’t be able to find it. Other creatures would be on the prowl. Dead.

It wouldn’t know how to survive anyway. Dead.

Maybe a feisty trainer found it? It was too young! That trainer wouldn’t know how to take care of it. They would battle with it and it would be killed immediately with a good ember or karate chop. Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead.

If literally anything happened to these Wurmple to disturb this perpetual state of safety, they would die, and the species in the area jeopardized. Knowledge must be brought down onto these bugs about their young. They are so careless. So inept. So…. naïve. And their children would grow up to be the same, having the same instinctive ways of protecting their hatchlings. These creatures would not know to change, evolve, or grow without something to provoke them to know better. All it takes is one Pidgeotto attack.

And today, it seemed that Julius was that Pidegeotto.

“Orb’a’mystery. Poison Gas. On da bugs. Now.” Julius ordered to his Koffing, who immediately obeyed. As the poisoned smoke entrapped the creatures, they began to squabble in their nests, feeling the sting on their soft skin. “Atta girl, just like that.”

The Wurmple began to squeak in high pitched tones, as if that’s all they could muster for a scream with their tiny lungs, as more and more gas soaked into their systems. Oddly enough, they weren’t opening their eyes and searching for a threat. These Wurmple were even younger than Julius had initially thought.

That only lit the fire in Julius even more.

“Come on, girly. Give ‘em your best shot. Really deep within.” Julius asked to the orb. As commanded and without a second thought, the Koffing dug deeper in its body and spewed out an especially potent gas, causing the Wurmple to screech louder than before and begin to try and escape their silk prisons. The Koffing didn’t really get what was going on, and was completely fascinated by the reaction. In fact, she even spewed faster and harder to see if she could stir up more activity.

Julius immediately found himself on the ground after a second’s passing. Something has pushed him violently onto the floor, but to his success, his managed to stick his torch upwards in the soil. His Koffing flew right out of his arms and out in the darkness however, and it cried with surprise as it fell on the sopping wet dirt below.

Chuckling, Julius looked at his attacker. A seemingly tall, bipedal green figure stood menacingly over his body; the sharp blades it called arms gleaming in the torch’s luminance. Without any words, the creature swung its right blade again, about the strike as Julius rolled on the ground below him. The attack missed, and Julius quickly stood on his feet once more.

“Hero?” Julius whispered, looking at the creature. It gleamed angrily from what he could see as it tried to pull its blade from the ground. No. It wasn’t here to save the Wurmple. It was purely there for him. For prey.

Julius felt a rocky sensation on his leg and instantly thought it was his orb of mystery. Thinking fast as the creature pulled its blade out of the ground, Julius raised his leg and kicked it at the bladesman.

“Orby, Tackle. Now!” he shouted as he noticed his assumption was right as the light revealed the sensation to be his Koffing flying right at the overgrown bug. Panicked, the Koffing instinctively did it anyway, smacking the blade-wielder hard on the stomach. Koffing rolled backwards on the ground as it landed from the recoil and the creature it hit sharply jutted its body upwards and growled angrily at the ball that just attacked him.

Before the blink of an eye, the creature was unloading onto the Koffing and screaming as its blade attempted to harm its rocky surface. Scared and frenzied, the Koffing screamed as well in fright as well as immense pain.

Julius tensed up and lost his grin as he heard a buzzing of sorts and looked upwards. A Dustox appeared out of nowhere and tried to attack Julius, who immediately smacked it away with the back of his hand. Without a moment’s notice another one flew into his chest and another onto his shoulder, as well as the one he had just swatted coming back for more.

“Poison’ Gas!” Julius yelled as he tried yanking off the moths. The Koffing blurted out a stream of gas from it, and continued to scream as the gas flew upward to its attacker. The Scyther took a few huge gasps of it accidentally from its panting breath, and began to choke and back off a ways from the Koffing. It wiggled back and forth, bringing its blades to its neck, frantically stamping around.

A loud buzz of more bugs came from the void and flew onto both Julius and his bleeding Koffing, and it looked like it if he didn’t quickly make it out of there, at least one of them wouldn’t survive the night. Punting another Dustox off of himself and reaching to his satchel, he dug out the knife Laughner gave him and proceeded to stab it at the Dustox that latched onto his torso and tried to dig into his heart. The creature moaned as its own heart immediately stop beating and fell off like a lump of rotten flesh.

Julius slashed his way to his Koffing and picked it up, and took a step forward before noticing the blade Pokemon still stammering around, trying to breathe. Julius took a quick look at the torch he planted onto the ground and quickly grabbed it. With one swipe of his hand, the torch made contact onto the Scyther’s face and scorched it. The Scyther panicked as its skin continued to be on fire, and fell backwards onto the tree. Julius tossed his torch at the very same tree and ran as a harmony of Wurmple screeches bid him off, their fragile bodies becoming nothing more than black flakes.

Alas, twenty feet into his blind journey through the darkness, something fastened around his ankle and tripped him, the momentum flinging his Koffing thirty feet in who-knows-what direction from his arms as his face greeted the moss below him.

His attempts at picking himself up were futile as unseen Dustox clutched onto him once more, and despite the unguided swings of his knife, an uncountable amount covered almost every inch of his body. His Koffing shouted somewhere in the distance, but Julius didn’t care about her right at the moment.

Suddenly, most of the Dustox flew off of him and something stronger wrapped around his ankles and began to pull on him. The cries of his Koffing were also traveling, coming closer in his direction. Faster and faster the force pulled him into an off-road marsh, and Julius quickly found himself suffocating under the dips up and down from the muck.

A sharp rock collided with his head, and knocked him out as he felt his body re-approach some kind of sturdy land.

Game Over

The pokeball bounced off of the Diglett and laid open on the ground. "Crap, crap, crap!" Rin said, running over to the pokeball, trying to close it. Unfortunately, it was no use, it was broken. "No...no, this can't be happening..." She said. She ran in front of the Diglett and held her knife in front of her with both hands. She was shivering and scared, it was rare that she actually fought Ghost Types; they generally didn't wander the forest. The Gastly didn't attack right away, instead it snickered, and waited. It seemed to be relishing in her fear. She looked left and right, but was unable to find anything to fight the Gastly off with. It then gazed into her eyes. For a moment, she returned its gaze, but quickly looked away after realizing that its plan was to hypnotize her into sleep. She then decided to take a gamble, one that she wasn't sure would work, given that the Gastly was a ball of Gas. She quickly opened her back, glancing back to see if the Gastly were going to attack. She then pulled out her Blanket and threw it over the Gastly, and due to the weight of Gastly's body and gas, it stayed over it. She then quickly took out a match, lit it, and then set fire to the blanket. Gastly, set ablaze, flew amuck. It was engulfed in flames, and without assistance, there was no way out. Rin then had a choice to make: she could either let the Gastly burn until it eventually died (if it even could, but it was more than likely a ball of gas than an actual ghost) or capture the pokemon and save its life. She thought about simply pouring water on it, but the blanket covered so much surface area that the fire was too large and too intense to be put out by a bottle of water, the water would just evaporate. The Diglett was desperately using Sand Attack trying to save the Gastly, but to no avail. The Gastly didn't scream; it couldn't, the Gastly was merely a sentient fireball at this point; it was a miserable sight, really. It tried hopelessly to put out the fire. Rin thought that it really would all be for naught if the one who saved her regretted the death of the attacker. She didn't even know what its reasons were for attacking her, it looked like it was doing it for fun; maybe it didn't actually mean any harm. She reached into her fanny pack and pulled out one of her pokeballs, throwing it at the Gastly. "It's interesting, normally I wouldn't hesitate to kill someone who's not only threatened my life, but the lives of others unjustly. We'll find out what to do with you," she said as she awaited the pokeball's decision. She then turned to the Diglett and crouched down, saying, "Are you alright? It got a little sticky back there, but you'll be okay now...hopefully." Suddenly, she heard a screech, several of them, actually.

Five Zubats started zooming above her head. She was jarred by the situation; she'd just beaten a Gastly (hopefully, she wasn't able to pay attention to the pokeball with the newly arrived enemies) and her starter was asleep, not too mention that her only ally was a grounded Diglett against several aviary creatures. Luckily, they wouldn't be able to be able to phase through her knives like the Ghost-Type was. They swooped down and used Leech Life on both her and the Diglett. If there had been only one of these creatures, this would not have been a problem, but in numbers they were an incredible threat. Rin held her Light Knife in her Right Hand and her other knife in her left. She tried to his them, but they never went down low enough to be able to hit them. The Diglett used Sand Attack, however this made it difficult for both parties to see. The sound of a ravenous bark came out, and when the dust cleared a Zubat was on the ground, unconscious, with Feign standing victoriously behind it. "Feign, you're alright!" Rin exclaimed. Then, as if something had provoked them, the four remaining Zubats all used Leech Life on Rin. She yelled in pain, and then trembled backwards. They then focused their attention on the Diglett and used Leech Life once again. Rin jumped in the way, protecting the Diglett, but almost losing consciousness as a result. She fell to the ground, unable to move. Feign Tackled another Zubat, knocking it unconscious, but then the three remaining used Supersonic, disorienting Feign. After this, they promptly released an onslaught of Leech Life attacks on the Diglett. It tried to escape, but due to its being confused it was unable to. The attacks mercilessly battered the defenseless Diglett, until finally, its lifeless body sunk underground.

The Zubats, thinking nothing of their murder, attacked Feign next. He had overcome his confusion by this point, and thus, was able to dodge some of the attacks, but even still, he was hit by quite a few shots. If she were able to, Rin would have told him to run away, but she was almost literally a broken woman. Slowly she was regaining energy, but very slowly. Then, out of no where, one of the Zubats simply fell to the ground. The remaining two were covered in a familiar smoke, and after being enveloped for a few moments, they fell as well. Rin struggled to turn her head to where she "captured" the Gastly, but all she saw was a broken Pokeball. She then looked up to see...

...the Gastly from just before. It smelled of burning linen, and it was likely the forcing of that smoke, along with it's naturally poisonous properties, down the throats of the creatures that killed the Zubats. It's gas was thicker and lighter than before, resembling smoke from a fire, but still keeping the hue and weight that the Gastly originally had. It returned to its completely gaseous state, and it didn't look happy at all. It approached Rin, most likely in an attempt to finish her off, but Feign let out a few aggressive barks that gained its attention. "Fei..." Rin said in a very low voice, unable to speak loudly. This was her only chance, she already lost one pokemon that day, she wasn't going to lose another. She used all of her strength to pick up her arm and reach her backpack. Unfortunately, time wasn't on her side, and the Gastly was faster than before as well, it clearly wasn't playing around, and it was most certainly a danger to Feign's life, as well as Rin's. Feign tried to run in different directions to divert the Gastly's attention for as long as he could. Rin's arm trembled as she very slowly unzipped her backpack and put her hand on the Escape Rope inside. "Fe...Feig..." She said, trying to call Feign over. Feign was clearly trembling, he had already sustained damage from the Zubats, and he wasn't able to go on for much longer. Rin was unable to yell, and her voice began to become raspy. As a substitute, she tried whistling. The first few whistles were small and disjointed, but finally she was able to create a loud enough whistle that it reached Feign. Feign ran over to Rin and noticed her hand on the Escape Rope. He took the end of the rope and threw it up, transporting the two out of the Temple. Rin laid near the front of the table, unable to move, and Feign was trying to stay strong for her, licking her face and curling up against her, despite the fact that it was suffering from acute poisoning. Tears streamed from Rin's eyes; even though the Diglett wasn't hers, it protected her like it knew her for its entire life, and she was unable to do the same.

October Carter -

Phanpy stumbled over to October wearily; exhausted from the fighting it had endured and nearing its limits. She gave the cute blue elephant an small pat on the top of its trunk as it dropped the Pokeball that held the Zubat within. “Good boy,” October croaked before returning the blue elephant to its Pokeball so it would remain safe and relax for the next couple of minutes it would take for her to stumble over to the man.

Lucky for her, he had come running over, noticing that all the Pokemon had flown away into the night. He wrapped his arm around her waist, lifting her up off the ground and guiding her back to the flood of light that was his house. October still managed to hold her bag limply in her right arm as the shuffled over to his hut, the flood of light making October’s vision blur and she almost stumbled across the welcome mat. But soon her vision cleared enough to see the simplicity of the hut swallowed by the intricacies of the geological machinery and paper work that lay scattered around the walls and floor. He swiped a couple of rogue papers off the single mattress bed that lay in one corner, laying October carefully on to it. Dizzy from the lights an somewhat lost at where she was, she simply lay on the bed, trying not to blackout as she felt cool liquid sting the wounds on her body.

“Relax please, this may sting, but I need to clean out the wounds before I put antiseptic on and cover them, can’t have the wounds festering now, can we?” The man had a quiet, timid voice, making October have to concentrate harder in order to listen to him. She nodded at him in agreement, her voice too sore to speak, but was pretty sure it looked more like a spasm than a nod.

“Thanks,” she managed to draw out and croak as she felt the cooling antiseptic cream sink into her wounds prior to the tightening bandages he placed on it; her hand still gripping her backpack tightly while her other hand held the shrunken balls that housed her dear Phanpy and newly acquired Zubat. Drearily, she promised to herself that she would name them both in the morning; Tantor and Zazu respectively.

“No problems. You need to rest up though,” he took the balls out of October’s hand, placing them on a weird contraption making October squirm and cry out in anger and pain, “settle down, it’s to heal them, silly girl, take these.” He handed her two tablets and held a small cup with a trickle of water in it, “One is a pain medication, the other a sleeping pill, and you will need the water to get them down your throat.”

October bent forward, grimacing in pain as she placed the tablets in her mouth, feeling them begin to dissolve in her mouth leaving a disgusting, sand-like reside. She gulped down the small sip of water and the tablets with it. The last thing she remembers is seeing the man pull a blanket over her body and retreating to a desk where the computer screen ran with lines of data and variables, lighting up his glasses. Soon she was in the land of dreams; relaxing in a the shade of a giant oak tree, on a brilliantly sunny sky as Zazu and Tantor played in the long grass together; Zazu a fully grown Crobat and Tantor a massive Donphan: the two of them the best of friends.

Richard Lee Ambrose

Richard was forced to take a hurried step back as someone reached right across him and snapped up the very item he had been looking at, buying it and running off before he even had a chance to say anything! Incredibly frustrated he decided to take out his notebook and a pencil, quickly sketching out the design of the glyph as best he could remember it. It was probably a forgery and even if it was genuine, it probably meant nothing. But Richard, having studied Pandora his entire life, had performed a different kind of research during the trip here to try and ensure he was prepared.

He had been riding adventure and mystery novels the whole way here, trashy paperbacks with titles like "The World is Houndoomed" or "A Wurmple in Time". And one thing he had learned from those cheap books was that an apparently insigificant occurence early in the story was usually revealed to be a vitally important clue in the protoganists investigations. A strange glyph being snatched away by a mysterious stranger before he had a chance to purchase it? That was exactly the kind of thing that investigators like Machoke P. Gastly (the man raised by pokemon) would never overlook.

After he had sketched out the glyph to the best of his memory Richard purchased a bottle of water and an extra set of rations, storing them away in his pack, and set off through the village again. As much as he hated to admit it, he was going to have to find an inn or hotel soon. He couldn't go all night like these other hunters and was going to need to hit the hay soon.

"Seeeeeeeentret."
"I know, I know. I'm looking for somewhere we can stay."
"Tret!" The bushy tail bashed him in the face again, the swung in the direction of a queasy looking man with a camera. He seemed to have asked Richard something, but he'd been so wrapped up in his own thoughts he'd completely missed it.
"Oh, sorry, I was sewaddled up in my own head there, lost on cloud arcanine I'm afraid." With a closer look he realised it was one of his fellow passengers from the ferry, who seemed to be inseperable from his camera - taking snapshots of just about everything when he wasn't too busy water gunning his guts over the side of the boat. "Did you want a picture?" He asked, deducing it was a safe bet, even if it perhaps hadn't been what was asked.

After putting the girl to sleep and putting her two Pokémon in his healing machine, Dr. Tristan Boone returned to computer and his notes, pushing his glasses up as he continued to research. The locals had named him the town healer but really, all he was was a Geologist with an old machine he had built himself on the designs of the previous models of the PokéCentre healing machines (because he built it himself, the thing looked as if it was made of garbage cans. Rather bootlegged. It still worked though, despite the amount of time it took) and a working knowledge of how to patch wounds and create antidotes.

Working in a room above the temple, he could hear all that happened and another commotion was going on. Now, Tristan was too much of a coward to go deal with it himself. No, that's why he was a healer. He treated the wounds, not caused them.

"Aipom!!" his partner said, also hearing the noise. Tristan pushed up his glasses again, exchanging looks between him and his monkey. Why did people stand tall against Pokémon at night? Everyone with half a brain knew that Pokémon were angrier with the moon.

"Oh, alright," he said, standing up, leaving his other patient for a minute. "I can never win an argument against you."

He didn't have to travel far; it seemed as if the one who had made the noise was already out. She and her Pokémon seemed hurt though. It was a good thing he had more than one bed and the machine could take more than two Pokémon. Another woman, it seemed.

"H-hello!" he shouted out to her from his doorway. "Are you hurt? Please, come up here!"

"Yes sir, yes sir," Benjamin held the camera to his eye and took a few shots of Ambrose and the merchant behind him, who looked a little happy in the first shot, started to become sick of the camera after the third and fourth shot. "Thank-you, sir."

"Listen, kid, if you're not going to buy anything, move along. You're scaring my customers," the merchant said. Benjamin hadn't really realised they stopped in front of a stall but it made the photo all the more appealing. Then, Benjamin's kiss-ass side kicked in.

"S-sorry, sir," Benjamin said, nodding nervously as he backed away to the side. "I didn't mean, I didn't mean to impose."

"Well, m-m-m-m-move your ass," the merchant mimicked Benjamin in a high pitched voice. It didn't bother Benjamin that much, he had been mocked several hundred times before, but blinked in surprise at the statement. The merchant grinned back. "That's right. Go away."

"S-s-sorry," Benjamin did as the man said and stepped back with Ambrose off to the side. "So, Mr. Ambrose, s-sir, are you doing, are you doing any adventuring tonight?

"Mind your manners sir," Richard said to the merchant. "This young man is a companion of mine, and I believe I just spent some money at your stall, did I not? Is this how you treat all of your customers and their friends?" Shaking his head (which caused Sentret to groan) Richard turned his attention back to Ben. It never ceased to amaze him how unnecessarily rude people could be. He was no saint, but he had been raised in a time when common decency was a damn sight more common. Nevertheless, he made a mental note to avoid an 'in my day' tirade.

"I'm sorry that he spoke to you like that, had I realised he was so rude I would have spent my money somewhere else. And no, no adventuring for me tonight." Richard smiled a little, the very idea that he was on an adventure at all seemed so... alien. But somehow, he'd never felt quite as comfortable in his own skin as he did now. "It's been a long journey and I think a bit of rest will put me in good stead for tomorrow. You'll find when you get to my age you sleep a lot less anyway, so odds are I'll be up quite a bit earlier than the others. Early Pidgey gets the Wurmple, as they say. And how about yourself? Eager to make a start, I'm sure."

Part of him wanted nothing more than to rush off and begin examining the temple, obvious monument that it was, but stumbling around it in such poor light would only cause him to miss things that could be important. It seemed likely he would be a few steps behind the other hunters on this little expedition, but he planned to be far more thorough.

Once the ball chimed, Antonio had to control himself from jumping up and down in excitement. This was his very first caught Pokémon he ever caught! He took a seat next to Cranium on one of the spiral stairs and just stared at the pokeball with the Zubat in it. The Zubat smiled at him, with his sharp fangs and eyeless face. He looked at his tired Cranidos and smiled as he released the Zubat from his pokeball. The bat Pokémon flew around his head, happily.

“Hey Zubat, my name is Antonio and this is Cranium,” Antonio said as he pointed to his first Pokémon. “We are your new friends.”Hearing that, the Zubat started flapping his wings excitingly. “Now let’s think of a nickname… umm… I’ll name you, Dracula.” Antonio said with conviction making his newly captured Pokémon happy.

Antonio smiled and then looked up the stairs to see how far he had left. He was extremely tired and he knew it had to be either close or past midnight. He would have fell asleep there, but he knew neither one of his Pokémon could hold their own if a Pokémon decided to attack during the night. He looked at both of them and seen how tired they were. As much as he hated to return them to their pokeball, he knew he had too. “Return, you guys. I’ll see you to in the morning.” Antonio told his two Pokémon as both of them disappeared into their respective pokeballs. He took one more look up the stairs and sighed. “Welp, better get started.”

Every step he took felt like it took a whole eternity to climb up it. As he walked he felt as if he would collapse from exhaustion at any moment. The closer he got to the top of the stairs, the more he saw the moon start to light up the dark temple. When he finally reached the top, he couldn’t go any further and collapse to the ground pant. In the distance, through blurry vision, he saw a small hut. All he need to do was make it a little farther. He sat on all four wishing he wouldn’t have stayed up the whole night before playing with his Pokedex. Seeing his destination within his grasp, he tried his best to stand. No matter how much he tried he didn’t get nowhere. He finally just fell flat on his stomach. As he started to slip in and out of consciousness, he heard soft footsteps coming towards.

“Wow another one.” He heard a man’s voice say. “This one is a boy? A girl?” The man questioned confused.

“I’m a boy.” Antonio managed to whisper.

“Hush now you’re safe. I’m gonna take you to my hut.” The man explained as he helped Antonio towards his hut. “I’m a geologist and my name is…” That’s as far as Antonio heard before drifting off into a deep slumber.

Rachel "the fox" Worth
Her theme

As the wheel of fate turns, our lives keep turning as well. This wheel turns as our destinies prosper, and rise to understanding. When that wheel slows down, everything will soon turn black. This time, at least from Rachel's seasickness. She was swooping down near the boat's edge, staring at the ocean trying to soothe herself, but to no avail. The last three days were hell for her upon this... this evil, accursed boat.

"He'll pay for...ugh, this," Rachel said, virtually gagging on her own words. Of course, when she says 'he', she's referring to that sneaky treasure hunter she's working for. He provided no warning that she would be... on a boat. Rachel then noticed a sudden orange light coming from behind her. She turned around seeing another lady, with a man holding a torch. Rachel couldn't help but eavesdrop... a little.

“Ma’am, we will be docking in five minutes," The man said. "If you could meet on the main deck, we can unload ya’ll onto Pandora.”

"Ugh, finally... erp..." Rachel said, relieved, at the same time, almost ready to burst. Soon, she found herself back in her cabin, quietly, yet quickly packing away her possessions in her travel bag. She wanted to make sure that she only packed what she needed - chips, cookies, ice cream, and lollipops, until she realized, this was a pokemon adventure, so... yeah, she packed pokemon-essential materials. Speaking of pokemon, her Slugma slithered its way over towards her cabin bed, greeting Rachel by almost melting her bed. Rachel warned Slugma to get off of there quickly, but the problem was obviously that Slugma was too slow.

As the ship finally docked, people lined up to get off the boat. As it was finally Rachel's and her Slugma's turn, Rachel was so relieved that she thought about kissing the ground, but... it was a little dirty, so she advised against it. She looked on to finally see the place that she landed on - Atara Village. It was pretty big; merchants where almost all over the place, with a lot of tourists visiting the village to have a close eye on the structures and the attractions. Rachel's delight turned to a high concerned-look as she peered down towards her Slugma.

"Well... you're my only pokemon," she said with a pitiful chuckle as her Slugma simply blinked. "I think I won you at a poker game... is that right?" Her Slugma did not respond. "Your last owner named you Natsu... I think. Natsu the Slugma. I don't even know what a 'Natsu' is. I hope it's delicious. But, well... your owner named you that, so... I gotta call you that, I guess." Once again, Slugma didn't respond as Rachel then sighed.

****

Rachel then found herself in the village with her Slugma, Natsu, just slowly keeping up. She then found a group of people together near a strange building; it was much taller and wider than the buildings that were all around the village.

"They say them' ghouls gobble people up for their lunch," Rachel overheard one of them say.

"That's just a rumor," another replied shortly afterward. "The explorers went inside there, remember? Nothing in there but young wild pokemon and a few broken bits of pottery. Shame really, but, that's the way it is."

"Ghouls, huh...?" Rachel whispered to herself. "Mmm... just imagine the amount of delight I would have with a ghoul... It would possess the souls of food vendors as they would then help me steal all their apples. Amazing!" Rachel then turned to Natsu. "We're going inside! Let's go--" But as Rachel raced on, she saw that Natsu was not beside her following along, as she turned back to see her Slugma, still slowly slithering a few feet behind. Rachel slapped her forehead.

This is going to be a looooooong night...

One for All

"H-hello!" Dr. Boone shouted out to Rin from his doorway. "Are you hurt? Please, come up here!" Rin heard him clearly, at the very least, her hearing had returned, but she was still almost paralyzed. Her eyes were cold and distant and her face was wet from crying. She moved her eyes to see who was calling out to her. It was a man, a doctor from the looks of it. She actually didn't mind lying there for until she recovered; other than being an eyesore, she would recover eventually; however, Feign was another story. His breathing was getting heavier and he was starting to shiver. Rin knew that this was acute poisoning, but it should have taken longer to go into effect, after all, she'd been poisoned several times in the past. That's when she remembered the onslaught of attacks by the violent Zubats. Still, if she wanted to save him, she'd need to move. She tried moving her legs and they responded by moving in various directions; progress, but those weren't the directions she wanted. She moved her arm to her back, slowly, her body aching with each inch that her arm moved. She opened her fanny pack and pulled out her Light Knife. She then dropped her hand back to the ground. She slowly slid her hand across the ground, past her face, and towards her left arm, just below her shoulder. The metal of the knife came in contact with her skin, and then it penetrated it. Blood then started to flow from the wound.

"Not...Not enough..." She said, wincing in pain. She put more force into her right arm and the river of blood increased it's size, and she continued to increase the force until finally she couldn't take it anymore. "Gah!" She yelled, removing the knife from her arm. She moved her knees, this time they responded correctly. She got to her knees, and then stood up. Blood continued to flow from her arm, dripping from her fingers. She put her knife away and closed her fanny pack, picking Feign up with her right hand. She went to the doctor, trembling and wobbling on the way there, still not fully able to control her body, and said, "I don't need to stay long, I just need to bandage this up and then sit down for a little while, I'll be outta your hair in a few hours." She looked to Feign and said, "This Elektrike, on the other hand, needs help. He's been poisoned and been heavily assaulted...I'll pay you to let him stay here for a little while."

"Whatever," the merchant said with a huff and returned to maintaining his stall. Benjamin, glad someone had defended him in a way, smiled at his new, elderly friend. It had been a while since someone had spoken for him like that.

"It's, it's perfectly fine, Mr. Am-ambrose, sir," Benjamin lifted his camera for a second to take one last photo of Ambrose. "It h-happens often enough f-for it n-not to worry, not to worry m-me much anymore." No adventuring tonight? Well, that made two of them. Benjamin was definitely not brave enough to try and face a forest at night, no matter how clear the path ahead of him was.

"And how about yourself? Eager to make a start, I'm sure."

"Oh, oh n-no, sir," Benjamin shook his head furiously. "I'm on-only here to write the, write the story, sir. Would... would you m-mind a com-companion, Mr. Ambrose, s-sir? I'd very m-much like your s-say on th-this whole thing."

Richard Lee Ambrose, late sixties. Kind, knowledgable, veteran on Pandora. Family? History? Research this.

Rin Shavi

"Oh, dear lord, what do you think you're doing?" Boone grabbed the girl gently and helped her into his 'house', laying her on his third and last bed. There was another boy here too, now, and the machine had two more spots for Pokémon. Lucky, this girl only had one. When given the Pokéball, he returned the Electrike and placed it in the machine. Then, he returned to the girl.

"No, no payment necessary," he said, grabbing a bandage and taking the honour in wrapping them himself as the girl mumbled about things Boone really didn't understand. "You just sit on this bed and sleep, okay? The machine should be done by the morning and everything will be okay."

Boone returned to his work, shaking his head. What was with these reckless adventurers and their ability to purposely hurt themselves? He would never know.

"You just sit on this bed and sleep, okay? The machine should be done by the morning and everything will be okay," Boone said to Rin as her put her in bed.

"Wh-what are you doing? I don't need sleep..." she said in a voice decreasing in volume as it proceeded. Rin didn't think about it, but forcing her nervous system to reconfigure actually caused it to exert an excess amount of energy. After only a few moments, Rin's vision started to strain. Simply staying awake became a struggle to remain conscious. It was as if the pillow's soothing embrace were trying to pull her down into the abyss. Her resistance was torn to pieces, rather abruptly, and she fell into the abyss before she was even able to acknowledge it.

Robert Hawkins

During the course of their conversation Robert noticed that the night had drawn on. He looked at the pokeball for a second before raising his head to once again make eye contact with the stall owner.
“Well sir, If you would be so kind as to release the Magby so I can check it over I would be happy to accept your kind offer and of course will be more than happy to perform a favour for your good self.” Robert smiled widely as the Magby was released from its ball.

The baby pokemon was still unsure on its feet and stumbled as it appeared before righting itself. Robert chuckled and bent down to inspect what would hopefully become his new pokemon. The Magby was hot to the touch and Robert recoiled as he attempted to pet the baby pokemon. Sucking his singed fingers he moved his face so as to peer directly into Magby’s eyes. There was a fire there. A spark of potential. This was all Robert needed to witness. A flash of orange from just below his field of vision made Robert move his gaze to the pokemons mouth. Embers were dripping from its mouth to the floor before its feet. As he watched a small weak burst of yellow flame came forth. “Everything seems in order. If I remember correctly then yellow flames indicate good health in these pokemon. Pawniard, what do you think of our potential new friend?” Robert’s other pokemon stepped forward and began its own examination of the Magby. After a minute it turned and gave a nod to its trainer. It confirmed this with a small accepting cry of “Pawni-ard!”

“We’ll take it! I should have the money somewhere…Just give me a second.” Robert patted his many pockets in search for his wallet. After a few seconds and much self-frisking he produced it and pulled from its recesses the sum required by the merchant. In return the merchant handed over the Magby’s pokeball and the two men shook hands.
“Mag Mag-by!!” The baby pokemon gave a little cry of happiness as it saw its new master place its pokeball on his belt and tottered over to join Pawniard by his side.
“Now sir, what was this favour you required?” Robert smiled as he saw his two pokemon playing in his peripheral vision.

"Well, there's been some rumours, you know? Some pretty suspicious rumours," the merchant rubbed his chin as if he had a beard, which he didn't. "A few adventurers say that if you are on the bottom floor of the temple at dawn, a hidden trap door will be revealed to you. Now, this is just a rumour, but they say that beyond this door, there are a few rare Pokémon and even some funny coloured orbs down there that haven't been picked yet. I don't know who's supplying the rumours, but a lot of people have been saying it."

The merchant looked at the temple, narrowing his eyes at it. For a structure that was literally the first to be excavated, it would be odd indeed for new items to be found in it.

"If you get me some of those orbs, or maybe one of those Pokémon, I could buy them off you for a nice price..."

"Gladly," Richard nodded. "A companion sounds like just what the Chansey ordered, so long as you don't mind slowing your pace for an old man like me. Shall we look around for somewhere to spend the night? I'm sure there must be somewhere that hires out rooms to all the travellers. Best to make sure we get one before the others do, eh?"

It would be good to have someone to travel with, not only for the company but also to help him with the physical tasks he might struggle with. It hurt his pride to consider that he might need that sort of assistance, but he had to be realistic if he expected to make it through this expedition in one piece. First they would get a decent nights sleep, then head for the temple first thing in the morning. In the light of day they would be able to spot the things others missed while blundering around in the dark, then be able to make their way further onto the island armed with whatever knowledge they were lucky enough to secure.

This Ben seemed like a nice enough character, and Richard wanted to trust him... but still. Best to keep a few things close to the chest on the off-chance that it was all a ploy. Some people would do anything for fortune or fame.

“We’ll be back in the morning with anything we find. Thank you again for your help.” Robert turned to leave, gesturing as he did so for his two pokemon to follow.

The trio strolled towards the dark silhouette of the temple in silence. The moon seemed to sink away behind the ancient structure as they drew slowly closer and closer to the dark arch Robert had inspected earlier. The silver light licked at the edges of the temple. This gave it an unearthly glow which seemed to pulsate as if the structure was alive, waiting.

“Once more unto the breach dear friends,” Robert sighed. The young man often found that the quotes of others would describe the world in a way far superior to his own words. Yet he had also decided that these stolen quotes, taken from pages penned by those much more skilled in language than himself, could never completely describe the feelings or situations a man experienced. He stared at the darkness which seemed to consume the bowels of the temple. The archway’s intricate designs seemed trivial now compared to the danger and treasures he had been promised within. A small war of wariness, weariness and excitement fought for domination upon his face. Robert stepped into the darkness.

Magby and Pawniard looked at each other as they watched their trainer disappear within. Pawniard was the first to turn away and follow Robert. Magby paused for a few seconds longer. Closing his eyes he stepped forwards and the sticky black of the temple surrounded the small pokemon.

“Magby, could you please make a flame to help me get my bearings here?” The fire pokemon did so. An orange flame burst from its mouth illuminating the chamber with an orange tinged glow. The walls appeared titian in the flickering light and Robert scanned the nearest for anything which may aid him in where to go next. His sweeping gaze caught the vague shape of a wooden torch hanging in its bracket upon the wall. He walked over, careful to give Magby a wide berth as the flame spewed from its mouth. Clutching at the aged wood he inspected the rag. It was a brilliant blue and obviously fresh. “Hmmm, The villagers must have renewed the cloth on these for their own use…I wonder.” He pulled it from the rusted iron bracket. It came free easily proving his theory of recent use. At his feet he spotted the small iron pot he had wondered about. It was of modern make and sat covered in only a couple of days’ worth of dust. Robert pulled off the lid and placed it to one side. The thick stench of petroleum rose to offend his nostrils. A grin broke across Roberts face and he soaked the torch within. “Seems strange they would choose to use these rather than electric torches,” He spoke aloud and to himself. It was not a thought he was going to ponder as the villager’s quirks were none of his concern and had worked in his favour. “Magby, could you light this for me?” The pokemon did so with a short controlled burst of flame. Robert held the torch downwards for a second until he was sure it had caught correctly and would serve him as he needed. “Thank you, shall we continue?” The two pokemon voiced their agreement loudly and began to stroll to the door upon the far wall of the chamber.

It wasn’t long before the flutter of wings was heard from above them. The zubat struck hard and fast. It swooped from the unknown reaches of the tunnel roof and struck the top of Robert’s head. Its teeth left two glittering red lines across the top of his scalp. The man recoiled in shock at the surprise attack and clutched at his head. Robert drew his hand from the scratches and inspected the warm, crimson blood which now clung to his fingers. It was a mere scratch and he would deal with it later. He and his pokemon wheeled around wildly in search of the attacker. Robert spotted it turning back towards them to make another attack. “Pawniard! As it flies back towards us jump and scratch!” He crouched low to give the assailant no choice but to swoop lower. It did so and entered Pawniard’s reach. The little pokemon leapt with its blades fully extended. It pierced the bat pokemon in the wing sending it veering off to the side where it impacted with the wall and dropped into the shadows consuming the floor. Robert searched frantically for a pokeball in his pack and soon produced one. The ball expanded in his hand as he walked towards where he believed the bat to have fallen. It was nowhere to be seen. “Perhaps it escaped in the confusion….We’ll have better luck next time I’m sure.” Robert returned the unused pokeball to his bag and ran his fingers through his hair. It was stiff with clotting blood. The trainer and his two pokemon continued on their journey into the darkness. Robert pondered the curiousness of the relative absence of pokemon in the temple.

After a further half an hour of uneventful wandering pockmarked with wrong turns and dead ends the three adventurers happened upon a large door. The dancing light of the torch seemed to give life to the carvings which adorned the iron surface. The carvings seemed to show depict the sun. Its life giving rays shining upon the people of the temple. A mirror above shone silver light upon the intricate carving of some kind of sun god. Robert could see no handle and no lock. The silver light could only be coming from the moon. “Its iron so your blades would be no good Pawniard and it would be far too heavy to push open…wait….Magby use ember on the engraving where the moon shines!” Magby tottered forwards and did as he was told. The engraving glowed after mere seconds of exposure to the flame. A click echoed through the chamber and the iron door swung upon.

Beyond lay an empty room and what appeared to be another iron door only this time it was set in the floor of the chamber. Upon inspection the engravings depicted the same sun god but this time it was restricted by what appeared to be an anthropomorphised representation of the mountains Robert remembered seeing off in the distance. “Looks like we made it to the trap door.” He sat down heavily and removed his bag. He placed it below his head as he lay down. Magby and Pawniard joined him. They waited.
