Robert Macintosh

Robert laid back in his cabin bed, one hand behind his head and one leg crossed over the other. In his free hand he held a Pokeball, shooting the returning beam out of it over and over to no avail. With each hopeful zap his Shuppet would dance easily out of the way, giggling over his failures and making a game out of it. He really wanted this Pokemon to go away, to stay in its Pokeball where it belonged and leave him alone. With every attempt to capture the evading ghost Pokemon, it would either dodge and laugh or disappear. Sometimes he was successful in catching it, but in that stupid way ghost Pokemon could, it would just phase out of the ball and then laugh at him. Its clearly playful nature was annoying, mostly because it only pulled pranks on him. Even when at the perfect opportunity to make another person look like a fool, it would always choose him. Robert wasn't sure if that meant that it liked him or if it secretly hated him. Either way, he didn't quite enjoy it.

He knew for sure another reason why. He'd looked through the items graciously supplied by Laughner and found a Pokedex inside. The red-colored machine told him, in basics, that a Shuppet fed off negative emotions. It was probably just annoying him for a quick snack! Robert didn't like the idea of being a walking dinner. He tried to keep his spirits up just to spite it, but to no avail. It knew how to push his buttons. Robert's biggest surprise that the Shuppet was not an it, nor was it a boy. It was actually a girl, according to the Pokedex. He could have sworn his Shuppet was a boy from looking at her horn thing, but if that were the deciding limb then... Well... That would make for a very interesting uh... Yeah. Anyways.

Robert and his Shuppet, whom he had gotten accustomed to calling Pinhead, were once again locked in battle. Every time he tried to return her she'd just get out of the way. Robert had a trick up his sleeve this time. He dug in his pocket, pulling out a smooth, silver laser pointer. It had been on his list of things to collect for Laughner and, surprisingly, it'd been the hardest thing to find on the list. The difficulty was too much to get into, but once he'd presented his items to the rich man he'd requested to keep this one item. It wasn't just because it was hard to find, but because it was sort of cool and useful. The pointer doubled as a pen and had a clock feature. He didn't know who thought this stuff up, but whoever it was was a visionary. Since batteries of this size were impossible to find, they made it conveniently solar powered. Robert pointed the laser at his Pokemon and pressed the button on and off, sending a flashing beam towards her face. She squinted, turning her head this way and that to avoid the beam in her face, though it was futile. Wherever she turned her head he'd follow her with the beam until, finally, she turned his back to him. He grinned, catching his opportunity, and attempting a successful return.

Robert held the occupied ball in his hand, grinning. "Welcome home, Pinhead." Feeling victorious, he pocketed the Pokeball and stood up from the bed, awarding himself with a nice stretch. The three day boat ride was coming to an end. In no time they'd be docking. Robert looked to the door when he heard a quick knock.

"Docking into Pandora! Two minutes!" Well speak of the devil... Robert picked up his bag and swung it over his shoulders. As he did, he heard what seemed like a far away giggling. He made a face, question marks over his head. He didn't realize what it was until something headbutted him in his chest. "Pinhead!" He yelled out. The Shuppet laughed again, slowly reappearing. "How did you...?" He sighed and shook his head, knowing it was a waste. "I'm not going to ask." Pinhead kept her smile going, laughing at him like she always did. Robert frowned. "You know, if you don't chew, what's the point of having a mouth?" Pinhead's smile widened. Without warning she stuck out her tongue and gave him long, slow lick up his neck. He shuddered, immediately clasping his hand to his neck, wiping away the spit. "Don't ever do that again." Pinhead laughed behind him as he walked out of the door to his room and out on the deck.

The evening air was warm, the breeze giving him a hug of heated air rather than a cool rush. He looked about the land. The water was deep and dark and the town here in Pandora was small. A temple stood tall in the background and a forest behind it. Houses and hotels and more stood around the shore, made out of dirt, sand, or something else. What caught his eye were the markets. The Marketplace was full of small shops that held countless items, ones no doubt useful. Robert smiled to himself, an idea conjuring.

"You can turn invisible, right, Pinhead?" She nodded, disappearing and appearing again just to show him it was true. "Good! Then I want you to help me." Robert explained his plan to his Pokemon as they descended the steps. She would stay out of sight while he perused the shops and smuggle whatever she could in secret. He'd keep the merchants distracted and she would get something useful. He emphasized the usefulness of food, checking multiple times to see if she knew exactly what he meant by food. She said she knew every time. Robert wasn't all that confident, but he was forced to trust her.

Down at the Martketplace, Robert took some of his time to look at the various shops before he finally picked one her licked. Out on display were items such as food, water, potions, and other things like a rock.

"Welcome to the finest shop here. Find anything you like?" The merchant asked him, the smile of a salesman on his face.

"I think so." There were thing he'd need on this trip. By him, Pinhead floated unseen, looking back and forth over the items present. To her, every item looked incredibly boring. Why anyone would want these items? She could never guess. They were useless to her. The only thing that caught her eye was a large rock on the table. It was a curious thing, a mysterious object that she, for some reason, wanted more reason to explore. If she liked it, why wouldn't Robert like it? Her reasoning made sense to her. Pinhead looked at the merchant, watching him as she opened her mouth slowly to quickly steal the odd rock into her mouth. Robert, who wasn't paying much attention anyways, stared down at the items on the table, trying to discern reasonable spending. He would be in the wilderness with no doubt dangerous Pokemon. The first thing he'd need is food. Spare water would be useful... Did he need a repel? Maybe. He might have to keep curious Pokemon away from his supplies. In the end he decided to take three rations, an extra water bottle, and one repel, leaving him, unfortunately, with only seven hundred to his name. Maybe he'd get more.

Hopefully he'd get more...

"Do you know any good hotels around here?" Robert asked once he'd finished making his pick of items. "Preferably cheap."

Benjamin Whistler

"Y-y-yes, Mr. Am-ambrose sir," Benjamin nodded, "it shouldn't, it shouldn't be too h-hard to find one."

Benjamin led the way for a little down the street and past the merchants, turning into a cottage that was considerably larger than the rest with two stories. There was a person standing at a desk, doing a sudoku, a Zigazoon sleeping next to his arm. When he noticed the two travellers, he looked up but didn't stop to greet them properly, only grunting at them.

"Yes?"

"Do you h-have t-two rooms available?"

The man chewed slowly on his... whatever he was eating, exchanging looks between Benjamin and Ambrose.

"Yeah, I do. 50P a room a night," the man sighed, his bad breath staining Benjamin's nose.

"T-two rooms, please," Benjamin placed 100P on the table and looked back at Ambrose, "for helping m-me, sir."

The innkeeper (you could probably call him that) handed over two keys, which Benjamin handed to Ambrose with a smile. With a "good-goodnight, sir," Benjamin retreated to his room to write more in his journal and get a good night's sleep.

The trapdoor doesn't seem to budge, but there are three marble sized indents in them. What does it mean?

"Yeah," the merchant said, pointing a thumb up the road. "There's a little hole called the 'Geodude's Cave'. The guy's an ass but the beds are pretty okay. For the price anyways. Or there's the Geologist on top of the temple. He's usually kind enough to lend you a bed for a favour."

He took Robert's 800P and handed over the goods.

October Carter -

October tossed and turned beneath the folds of sleep as demons chased her around every bend and ghostly images haunted her peripheral vision. Sweat beaded itself down her face as tiny moans escaped from her mouth as she felt the wind from a thousand flapping wings buffet her hair. Maddeningly she raced down the dark forgotten halls, searching for something, even someone that could help her escape. From out of nowhere, the ground beneath her feet lifted up and down, tossing her from wall to wall as she lost her footing and curled into a foetal position. Suddenly the shaking stopped and she cautiously retracted her arms from her face to find herself in an endless room of darkness; the only light shining down from a pinprick high up. She followed the beam of light as it cast as shimmering aura around a single diamond rose sitting peacefully on a dusty pedestal. The ages had coated the floor and pedestal in dust, yet the diamond rose looked like it had only just been cut.

Cautiously she tucked her fingers around the base of the flower, a diamond thorn sticking into her index finger slightly and drawing a small trickle of blood. Even in her hands, she could smell the strong scent of roses, as if the whole room was filled with them. Opening her eyes, she no longer stood in the dusty cavern but was now surrounded in sunlight and thousands of diamond roses. She turned quickly as a small child darted by her, holding the diamond rose in one hand as she darted off to catch the child. After seemingly having lost the child, October stumbled upon a rippling water fountain encircled by roses.

An older man crouched down in front of the small girl October had been chasing, talking to her with locked eyes. October dropped to her knees as the man’s hardened face kissed his daughter softly on the forehead; withdrawing a small rose necklace from his pocket.

Panting heavily, October flung her body upwards, the bed sheets falling down to her waist. Sweat still ran down her body, producing wet patches where her clothes had soaked it up. Beside her the makeshift PokeCenter now flashed occasionally, signifying it’s healing cycle had completed. She retrieved the two PokeBalls she had carefully etched with a plus symbol from amongst the others. Her memory of last night was vague, but she could hear deep breathing and snoring coming from different rooms; the geologist most likely having taken on some of the other reckless adventurers like her.

Reaching for her bag, October noticed a small yellow note that had been slipped in the top of her bag; barely noticeable with the zip slightly ajar, but entirely out of place. October was sure she had left her bag zipped up, unless someone else had come in during the night and had a look. Regardless, she picked the letter up and read it.

"Dear girl,
As a Geologist, it's hard for me to face the dangers of the outside world. In all honesty, I'm a coward. A pretty big one. I usually rely on my Pokémon for my courage and it's not very noble of me.

I ask of you a small favour, if you will. In the heart of Route 1, there is a certain rare Pokémon with keeps with it a considerably rare thing. You may catch the Pokémon if you wish, but I only need what it keeps with it. If you can get this for me, I will pay you and you will always be welcome in my home.

Please, I am too much a coward to do this on my own.

Many thanks!
Tristan Boone"

It took October a couple of times to read before the nature of the letter sunk in. She was needed to help this man, but really, how much overall help could he give her towards finding the treasure? It was a race against the others, a race she needed to win; for not only Laughner’s sake, but hers as well. As October tossed the idea around in her head, she heard someone in one of the next rooms begin to stir. Not wanting to bump into any others for fear of them following her, she quickly tucked the note into her pocket and headed out the door.

Shielding her eyes from the morning sun that peeked through the horizon, she now noticed a staircase descending down the side of the temple towards the ground below. Cursing and inwardly kicking herself, October began to descend the staircase, feeling the warm sun against her back and the wind flowing through the holes in her clothes. She gently rotated the Pokeballs in her hand as she made her way down, still contemplating helping the geologist. First of all though, she needed new clothes now that hers had been almost turned to shreds by last night’s attack.

Down in the city, more people wandered the dusty paths than at night; even a couple more shops had opened up. It wasn’t long before she stumbled upon a small shop selling gear that would be much better suited for exploring than the clothes she had decided to wear. Khaki, browns and greens weren’t exactly October’s first choice in clothing colours, but it was the only colour range the shop seemed to offer, and so she needed to suck it up and deal with it.
“A wild night, huh?” The lady commented on October’s rather ragged appearance.

“Yeah, I ran into a spot of trouble in the temple last night.” October replied, flicking through a pile of shirts looking for one her size.

“Not a smart move, girl, even locals know not to go into the temple at night.” She shook her head as she took the shirt from October and entered the price into the till while October began looking through shorts that would fit her. After half an hour of fitting and searching, October payed the lady 500P for a pair of khaki shorts, a rather muddy brown shirt and a pair of thin, fingerless gloves. She quickly ducked into the changing cubical to change her clothes while, rather unhappily, throwing away her nice, torn clothes.

A couple of doors down and October quickly moved onto the Marketplace where she would gather objects she would need for the journey ahead. Even though she was only going into Route One and then back again to Atara Village, there was no telling how long she would be, or what she would need to take with her.

900P later, and October’s bag now weighed down with two more potions, another Pokeball to replace the one Zazu had been caught in, a new bottle of fresh water and two portions of rations that should last October and her Pokemon at least one day if they rationed it properly. Clothed and ready, she released the Zubat and Phanpy from their respective balls so that they could join her on their adventure. Both looked healthy and full of energy, Tantor bounding happily around October’s legs as she walked north towards the first route while Zazu flapped aimlessly around her head. Having only just caught the Zubat, it would take a while before Zazu became as attached to October as Tantor had, but then again October and Tantor had a three day boat ride to sort out their issues and come together.

She again passed by the temple, gazing up to look at the top now reaching up into the clear, blue sky, trying not to looking in the dark, foreboding mouth of the temple. Zazu screeched a little as they passed, obviously sad to have left his coven of Zubats while Tantor edged away from the temple, putting October between himself and the temple. With Route One looming up ahead as they passed the northern outskirts of the town, October felt her stomach turn, hoping to not run into the same trouble as she had at the temple and wondering what exactly the Geologist wanted, much less whatever Pokemon she was chasing after for it.

Spoiler:

Route 1

Route 1 is the most walked route in Pandora, a large path carving a easy walk between Atara Village and Kamen Rock, the next camp over. The dirt at your feet should be littered with foot prints with leaves and trees on the skirts of the path battered or destroyed. It's not uncommon to see other travellers walking this path during the day and perhaps even the night. The Wild Pokémon here are usually calm but can attack if startled.

This is definitely the best place if you wanna level up your Pokémon, catch a new partner for your team or befriend a new explorer to journey with you. Remember, other trainers will be around here if you want to make a quick buck! Or, if your mind is more concerned about the treasure, continue on to Kamen Rock. It's probably a three hour walk from Atara Village.

Rin Shavi
Awakening

Utter darkness is interrupted by trickles of light, and those "trickles" started to grow and spread, until one is invaded by a blanket of luminescence. Blurred vision started to appear and all that can be seen was a vivid, semi-Suburban building, completely out of place in the natural paradise that was Pandora. The fog in Rin's eyes started to clear and she acknowledged that she'd awoken in an unfamiliar area. She hastily sat up and looked around, and then her arm caught her eye.it was bandaged and dark red, and that's when she remembered how she came to the establishment she was in. It was a makeshift Pokemon Center, though it was the first time she'd been in a Pokemon Center since she was a small child, living in the wild she never needed to. She removed the blanket from her person, picked up her packs that were on a table next to her bed, and walked over to a machine with a pokeball in it. Boone wasn't anywhere to be seen. She took the pokeball and released the Elektrike that was inside.

Feign let out a spry bark and ran circles around Rin, creating an electric current that made Rin's skin tickle, prompting a giggle. "Feign, you're alright!" She said, picking him up. He let out a joyous bellow in response. She put Feign down and again looked for the doctor. He must have been out, or working elsewhere. She decided to leave, as he was pretty adamant about not getting repaid. Upon leaving the makeshift center she was attacked by rays of light, her eyes hadn't adjusted to the brightness of her environment. She put her hand in front of her face to shield herself from the sun and ventured forth. On her way to the edge of the village she stopped and looked at the Temple, pondering going back in to combat the Gastly and get revenge. Sadly, it would be impossible for her to beat Gastly without any special moves, so she decided to train on Route 1. Upon arriving at Route 1 she was overtaken by beauty, and at the same time filled with familiarity. She felt more at home in this environment filled with foliage and vegetation that she did in the village. She listened to the Pidgeys chirping in the distance. Small furry creatures roamed in through the trees. The wind blew, making the leaves brush against each other to create a very soothing sound. Rin was home.

A small Caterpie rubbed against leg, she smiled back at it, and that's when she noticed that her clothes were torn to shreds and she didn't have a spare pair. The Leech Life attacks were sharp, and they did a number on her apparel. "Aw, I just got this stuff!" By "got" she meant stole, and in a very Robin Hood fashion; she stole from the rich and gave to herself. Very classy. She pulled the elastic on left leg and made a clean cut all the way around, same with her right leg, and the lower half of her blouse, along with the sleeves. "Whew, that's more like!" She said, putting the discarded pieces of clothing in her backpack. She squatted down and again smiled at the Caterpie, saying "It's been nice chatting with you!" She then stood up and signaled for Feign to come over.

She continued to walk for a while until she heard a loud noise, almost like a roaring Charizard. "I guess it's lunchtime..." she said to herself and Feign. She looked around to see what she could eat. The vegetation was nice, but there were no berries in sight, at least not ones that were edible by humans. She decided to scale a tree (leaving Feign at the bottom, as he can't climb trees) and decided to scope from there. In the distance she saw two Pidgeys attacking a Caterpie, probably not the same one from earlier. She jumped from branch to branch and descended to the ground with a running start, Feign following suit. When she arrived, the Pidgeys turned their attention to her. She pulled out her Knife and put herself into a defensive position, smiling all the while. She gave Feign the signal to attack, and he Tackled one of the Pidgeys. The Pidgey had the wind knocked out of it, but it did a Swan Dive Tackle into Feign, with the velocity and altitude attributing to the attack's force. Feign faltered, but countered with yet another tackle, knocking the Pidgey out. The other Pidgey then went on an offensive, and started to attack Feign. It also Swan Dove at Feign, but this time he dodged the attack. Promptly after making contact with the ground, it used Sand Attack to cover its location and then quickly swung into another tackle attack, making a direct hit. It started to attack again, but was thwarted by a knife to the back. "Score!" Rin said, snapping her fingers in ecstasy. She petted Feign and said, "Nice work, buddy," and then proceeded to remove her knife from the dead Pidgey and picked up the corpse by its leg. She started walking away with Feign when she noticed a faint sound, one that a small bug-type would make.

The Caterpie that she saved was following her. She looked back and said to it, "No need to thank us, really." She turned back around and continued walking, and as she did, so did the Caterpie. Without looking back she said, "You don't want to come with us, it's too dangerous." Yet even still, it continued to follow her. She payed it no mind and started picking up some fallen branches. She then went over to a secluded area surrounded by vegetation overgrown due to excess sunlight and runoff from taller deciduous trees. She put the branches down in a pile, and placed one larger branch over the others. She then de-feathered and gutted the Pidgey and placed it on the larger stick. She then took out a match, lit it, and set fire to the branches that were in a pile. The Caterpie had, once again, followed her. She sat down and sighed, saying, "You want something?" The Caterpie smilled and rubbed it's head against her leg. The possibility that this was the same Caterpie that welcomed her on her arrival to Route 1. She hadn't noticed before, but this Caterpie had been through a lot, it was likely separated from its family and only managed to survive because of a few lucky breaks (such as Rin's intervention). She once again sighed and said, "Fine, fine." She opened her fanny pack and dropped a pokeball on the Caterpie.

Iruzja Aleksandrov

>> Location: Atara Village Surroundings <<

Although the ferry cruised along the high seas at a speed few other sailing vessels could rival, it still took three days for it to arrive on the shores of Pandora. Iruzja spent this time on studying various Pokemon-related books, as the little creatures is almost guaranteed to play a pivotal role in her hunt this time around. The Pokemon Laughner provided her prior to her leaving for Pandora, she learned, was called Swablu, a Flying-type Pokemon. She cared little for her unintimidating appearance, and for her reckless personality even less. She had no patience for cleaning up after the mess she's prone to make due to the aforementioned personality flaw, and if she proves to be more trouble than she's worth, Iruzja won't think twice before releasing her into the Pandora wilderness.

A knock on the door, subsequently followed by a note being slipped under her room door, interrupted her silent reverie. She had made it a priority to let the ship's crew know on the voyage's first day that she would not attend to matters of trivial importance. They were only to knock on her door to deliver food or news worthy of her attention. The crew consented to her request; whether due to respect or intimidation, she cared not. She would have her room all to herself, and no one would interrupt her important research. She wanted nothing more.

Since the crew bothered with her, it would probably be safe to assume that something eventful has transpired. Iruzja walked over to the door, took the note, and read it.

"mam, sory for bothrin you but weve arived in pandora please meet us on tha deck were docking. -john"

"Arrival at last," she mumbled to herself, after decoding the jumbled mess that is the note. Due to technical problems, Iruzja had to catch a ferry that left a full twelve hours after the one she was originally intended to board. This unfortunate twist of fate allowed her competition to get a head start, leaving Iruzja at a severe disadvantage. But Iruzja had not the interest to weep over spilled milk, as that solved nothing. She will catch up with the rest of the hunters. Nothing else mattered.

***

>> Location: Atara Village <<

By the time Iruzja arrived in Atara Village, the sun had already risen on the east, painting the dawn sky with brilliant streaks of yellow and orange. It was a particularly beautiful sunrise, and many stopped their daily routines to look up at the radiant sky, a sight more than just slightly uncommon in the mainland. Iruzja certainly didn't. Her mind was occupied with something else; to her pleasure, Atara Village sported a marketplace along the shoreline, and as far as Iruzja was concerned this was the ultimate blessing for a treasure hunter. It was a way of restocking, information gathering and socializing all in one go. Needless to say, Iruzja jumped at the opportunity and approached one of said stalls.

"Welcome, welcome!" a large woman of some forty years called out as Iruzja approached her stand. "We got all sorts of goods for yer travels. Fresh from the mainland, I guarantee!"

Iruzja put on her most charming smile. "Why, thank you. Let's see...I'd like two Rations and a bottle of Fresh Water, please," she said, her tone pleasant and her countenance no less so.

"Alright, here ye are, lass! That'll be 400P, thank you."

Iruzja dug into her wallet and pulled out a 500P bill. "Is there anything I can get for the extra hundred?" Iruzja inquired.

"Another bag o' rations, mayhap?" the seller asked back. "Ye could get a PokeBall if ye throw in 'nother 50P..."

"I'll take the Rations, thank you," came Iruzja's reply. "So what is there to explore around here?"

"Ha! Got treasure on yer mind, do ye? Well, there's that there big temple in the middle of the village. Used to be full of treasures, aye, but they done loot everythin', or so I heard."

"I see. Anything else?"

"Well, if ye go over by Old Matthew's stall 'round the corner, ye can find the forest trail. I'd recommend you travel it now while you got the chance, because word is many rare Pokemon are a-prowlin' that there area. Night falls and it won't be half as easy to get outta there alive, they say."

"Very well. Thank you so much for your help," Iruzja said to the woman, once again flashing her charming smile.

"Anytime, lassie! We never done get any as nice as you 'round these parts. Drop by again soon!"

***

>> Location: Route 5 <<

Rare Pokemon was on the prowl. The saleswoman's words still hung in the air as Iruzja stepped over the roots and shrubberies that was plentiful within the forest. She was determined to find one of these rare beasts, as they would likely increase her chances of getting to the treasure first. She's already trekked the forest for around thirty minutes, but all she had seen so far was a Wurmple and a Flying-type Pokemon mentioned in one of her Pokemon encyclopedias--Starling, was it? Neither looked like the type of muscle Iruzja needed, so she left them alone. She didn't want to stir up any unnecessary trouble and tip the scales against her any further, after all. She was handicapped enough as it is.

Eventually, she came to a part in the forest where a numerous amount of vines jumbled together to create webs that seemed unbreachable without a sharp object of some sort. Fortunately, Iruzja brought along a tool just for the occasion. After reaching into the slit of her coat and pulling out her silver dagger, Iruzja slashed at the intertwining vines, cutting down a great deal of them in a single swoop. Even though she did this activity continuously, the ivies were seemingly endless; after a while, Iruzja, quite understandably, became frustrated. She hacked and slashed at them with increased ferocity and speed; little did she know that one of the "vines" her dagger touched was actually a sleeping Dustox's wing.

"Duuuuuuuuuuust!"the moth Pokemon screeched in a mixture of pain and anger. It flailed around blindly in search of its attacker, and, failing that, let out a powerful Gust in order to blow away the remaining greeneries. Iruzja held her ground against the surging winds and fingered Swablu's Pokeball.

When the Gust died down, Iruzja held out the PokeBall, releasing Swablu; the latter immediately assumed a battle stance. "Swablu!" the cotton bird hollered, attracting Dustox's attention.

"Dust! Dustox!" Dustox yelled back. Its eyes glowed a light shade of purple, and a light of the same color immediately coated Swablu--Dustox was using Confusion. "Dustox!" it yelled once again, before using its telekinetic power to move Swablu in the direction of a tree.

"Swablu, break free," Iruzja said firmly. Swablu attempted to do as she was told, but it was futile; the Confusion was too strong. The bird was slammed head-first into a tree bark, but the impact did not do much damage, and she quickly recovered. "Prepare for close combat. Peck."

Swablu soared at a high speed towards the Dustox, its beak gleaming with energy. Dustox attempted to dodge, but the attack still managed to graze its chest. "Duuust!" it screamed in agony. The attack was super-effective.

"Peck again, now."

"Swa, Swablu!" Swablu hollered back defiantly, and used Growl instead. The Dustox seemed unfazed and again used Confusion to slam the bird Pokemon against a tree bark.

"Swablu, you dolt," Iruzja sneered. "Confusion is a Special attack. Growl will do nothing. Now do as I say and use Peck."

"Swa...blu!" Swablu soared towards the Dustox once again, but this time it was halted midway by Gust.

"Push forward," Iruzja commanded. Swablu's wings flapped furiously in order to fight against the great force of Dustox's Gust.

Swablu held her ground until the Gust eventually died down, before continuing her assault. Dustox, exhausted from the attack, was left defenseless as Swablu landed a direct Peck right in the chest. The moth fell to the ground face-down, and Iruzja didn't miss a beat. She immediately threw a PokeBall at Dustox and waited for the inevitable clicking sound--that, or the battle she's forced to repeat.

Rin Shavi
Cooking for Three

The sun was shining bright, its rays hitting the trees above, providing comfortable shade for the creatures below. A Pidgey was being roasted on a makeshift spit, and a girl was looking to the sky in wonder. Rin looked back to the spit to see that the Pidgey had been roasted to a glorious golden brown. Feign ran over to the spit, barking impatiently at his breakfast-to-be. Rin got up and started dividing the pieces among the two of them. The two were similar in their methods of eating the Pidgey, they were ravenous and aggressive, ripping it apart. After a short time, the Pidgey was completely devoured and all there was left was the skeleton. Rin let out a satisfied belch and stood up. "Okay, Feign, I need you to stay here and take care of Beau," Rin said, pointing to the Caterpie. "There are three of us now, and Beau is young, I'm going to have to go look for his food." After having uttered those words, Rin ran into the wilderness.

There were several ways Rin traveled through the wilderness, especially areas with condensed tree populations like forests, jungles, and now Route 1, one of which was jumping branch to branch. It's normally incredibly dangerous, but the size of the trees and the number of branches makes it so that she has more time to catch herself if a branch breaks. Now the way I see it, Beau will only need about three berries per meal, so if I find thirty berries, we'll be good for ten days, Rin thought to herself. She headed for a tree and started running up it. Her run then changed to a climb as she took out her knives and started stabbing into the tree, the knives almost acting as makeshift ladder steps that one grabs onto. After reaching a good sized branch, she climbed onto it and put her knives away. She scanned the area below and the tree leaves, but found no berries. She jumped to the next tree not to far away, the branch creaking under her weight. She scanned the area again, this time finding a large knothole in the tree, and inside there were berries. The problem was, guarding the berries were three Spinerak wandering the web covering the knothole. Rin considered taking them down and taking the berries, but it was most certainly more of a chore for them to obtain more than it was for her.

Elsewhere

When around Rin, Beau is very cuddly and affectionate, but around Feign he wasn't so friendly. This was likely because Rin was female and Feign wasn't, and because Feign is incredibly obedient, and despite his gentle nature, he's very defensive of and loyal to Rin, and he'll get aggressive if he has to; that, and he's a naturally ravenous eater, which is a pretty frightening sight. Feign, lying down, looked at Beau. Beau jumped at his gesture and hid behind the spit. Feign then turned and closed his eyes. Beau peeked out from the spit and looked curiously at the Electrike. Beau wandered close, looking at his face, almost as if he were studying it. Feign opened his eyes, and Beau rushed back to the spit. It was a cute display, to be sure. Something rustled in the overgrown grass nearby. Beau bolted towards Feign for protection, and Feign raised his head to the sound. Out of the grass came a Bulbasaur. Feign stood up, but the Bulbasaur wasn't trying to attack, it was simply passing by. Feign looked at Beau and smiled, but Beau quickly bolted back to the spit. More rustling followed, and this time the "visitors" were most certainly aggressors.

Two String Shots shot out from the grass and embraced Beau, quickly pulling him into the tall grass. Feign stood up and bolted towards the kidnappers. He almost caught up to them when his legs were tied by another String Shot. One of the kidnapping Spineraks stopped to staunch the Electrike, and then it went back to dragging Beau. However, before it could get back, Feign paralyzed it with a Thunder Wave, thus leaving both Feign and the Spinerak immobile. It was a seemingly useless venture, however, as the other Spinerak was still able to drag Beau alone, albeit at a slower pace. Electrike barked angrily in regret, and then whimpered in lament.

...

The wind blew threw her hair as she jumped from tree to tree, scanning her surroundings for berries, then she was struck by hindsight, making her lose her footing and fall. She managed to catch herself on a branch; it broke, but it made the fall less painful. She then dashed back to the tree where the Spinerak were at full speed. "I can't believe how stupid I was!" she yelled to herself. "Spinerak are Carnivores, they only eat berries for medicinal purposes...they definitely don't need all of those." Almost missing the tree, she slid in an attempt to stop and then bolted up the tree. She returned to the sturdy branch where the knothole was and said "Hey guys, I've returned for th-" Then she stopped dead in her tracks. Inside the knothole was a large white lump. Now, this would be normal in most cases, they are, after all, Spinerak. However, this specific lump had antennae, ones clearly belonging to a Caterpie. The smell emanating from the antennae (as stimulated reaction out of fear) was familiar; It was most certainly Beau. Rin was unable to move, and unable to speak; she was in shock. Then, she let out a blood-curdling scream.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH!"

Her eyes became bloodshot, her breathing became heavy and aggressive, her muscles bulged, her judgement became questionable, and her morals were non-existent. "You...you're all dead!" Tears started streaming down her face as memories of the Diglett from the Temple started rushing back. She took out her two knives and held them both in an offensive, yet notably chaotic position. "I'll kill you all, you're all dead!" She was gripping the knives so hard that her hands almost started to bleed, leaving bruises. Her arms moved in small movements erratically and shook vigorously. She destroyed the cover to the knothole, tearing the silk to shreds. The three Spinerak tried to hold her down with String Shots, but she was far too unruly and broke through. She started to attack, but then...a subtle happening. A wiggle. The small lump wiggled, and it caught Rin's eye. Her muscles started to shrink and her eyes regained their natural color. "B-Beau?" Rin said in a hopeful voice. The lump once again wiggled. "Beau!" She said, the streams of tears getting larger. She cut the silk from Beau and hugged him tight. "I'm so glad to see that you're okay!" She exclaimed, as if talking to a child. Beau nuzzled her in response. The happy moment was broken up by an onslaught of Poison Sting attacks aimed for Rin's back. She smiled a devious smile, bearing the attacks. She commanded Beau to use String Shot on the three, and while he didn't tie them all together, he did manage to tag them all with the string. Rin touched the tree, examining it. It was dry, and at the same time it was smooth, it could endure a small fire without being engulfed. She gathered about 10 berries (most of them Oran, but various others) from the knothole and placed them in her backpack. She then took a match out and started to light it, but was overcome by a sharp pain that overtook her body. The poison was circulating. Unlike the "Leech Life Incident", she was still able to move, the poison hadn't reached critical levels, it'd take a little while for that. She lit the match and set the string on fire, burning the three, and distracting them temporarily. She grabbed Beau and jumped to a branch below, but she slipped and fell onto the ground below. It didn't take long for the Spinerak to follow suit, as well as another Spinerak that joined in from elsewhere. Rin needed time to check to see if any of the berries were Pecha berries, and even if they were, she would need time to recover. Beau went to her front as if to protect her. It was one on four, and Beau certainly wasn't the strongest fighter. Suddenly, one of the Spinerak was thrust into one of the trees, fainting on impact. Feign appeared out of the overgrown grass, and went to Beau's side, also defending Rin.

VS. x3

Feign ran towards one Spinerak, and used Thunder Wave, paralyzing it. One Spinerak leapt towards Feign and was promptly Tackled by Beau. Beau was hit by a Poison Sting, but luckily avoided being poisoned. Feign Tackled the Spinerak Tackled by Beau, but it hung on. Rin finally found a Pecha Berry among one of the berries in her backpack. Even though berries are normally eaten by pokemon and taste disgusting to most humans (however, wild berries are often processed and drunk by humans as drinks), the restorative properties are universal. Rin, however, has eaten berries all her life, and thus she acquired a taste for them. The restorative process started to take place, and even though she wasn't fit to fight, she stood up and readied her fist, unsteady and trembling. She realized her weakness, and sat back down. Beau then knocked out the weakened Spinerak with a Tackle, and Feign did the same with the paralyzed one. There was one Spinerak left, and it was unharmed. It looked scared, and it had every right to be. After all, a strange woman invaded their home, took their food, and almost tried to kill them, ordering her pokemon to knock out her friends (even though they did it on their own). Rin smiled gently, realizing that they did all of this out of necessity, and signaled for it to leave, as it promptly did. She wobbled towards Feign and Beau, the former of which licked her hand and the latter climbing on her shoulder and nuzzling her head with his, and they all started following the path towards Kamen Rock.

The torch burnt out after around an hour in the chamber. Time seemed to pass at a snails pace as the pokemon and their trainer sat in the dank darkness waiting for dawn. Robert hoped to Arceus his hunch was right.
“Damn, I wish John was here right now….he was always better at deciphering these damn pictograms!” Robert was talking aloud and to know one in particular. The darkness was unnerving and the only indication as to the passage of time was the slow movement of the reflected moonlight across what he expected to be the eastern wall of the chamber. He looked around in the gloom and spotted Magby and Pawniard sleeping in a corner. The soft snores were the only noise that seemed to permeate the deafening silence of the chamber. A smile flickered across Robert’s face. “Not a bad idea,” he managed to say through a slight chuckle. The laughter seemed to spread out across the room and hang in the stale air repeating over and over again until it faded to nothing. Robert shivered in the cool air before joining laying down to continue his vigil.

“Guys….wake up!” Robert shook his two pokemon awake. His gaze was fixed on the beam of sunlight which now illuminated the opposite wall to that which the moonlight had crawled across earlier. Three objects reflected the light into his eyes as the patch of sunlight moved across them. His hand acted as a shield from the glare as he approached. The three glints of light soon became three glass orbs sat neatly below an engraving in the wall. Robert traced his finger through the faded and worn markings. “I know these markings….I can read this,” Concentration was etched across his face as he scratched years of dust and dirt from the engravings to allow him to read them. “Darkness turns to light, Three orb turn to key, Uno Dos Tres…Any ideas?” He turned to Pawniard and Magby as he said this. The two looked blankly at him. “Guess not…Well Darkness to light could mean night to day and three orb to key…well that obviously is referencing these three orbs,” Robert picked up the three orbs in one hand as he said this. “What are they keys to though?”
“PAW! PAWNIARD!” Pawniard was jumping up and down in the centre of the room. Robert turned with realisation dawning on his face.
“Of course! Well done Pawniard!” He ran to the trapdoor he had inspected earlier. Looking again at the inscription Robert soon located three small indents. The orbs slot easily into the indents. The three colours matching the faded dye evident on the aging stone upon closer inspection. Robert heard a gentle click as the third orb was slotted into place and held his breath as he and his two pokemon waited to see what would be revealed.

Alexander Lance Thornmarsh

The boat journey had been a long three day affair, during which Alex had found that in addition to not having his gun and ammunition he hadn't got his knife and he was largely under supplied in comparison to normal expeditions. He had searched through the equipment given to him and at first thought that some of the boxes must have been missing. The kit that he had been provided hadn't even a bare minimum for survival, let alone exploration and the funding he got was a joke. Several times over the trip he had Jessica try to get in touch with Jude but to no avail. That was after he had shouted at her for removing his gun ammunition and kif form his pack and replacing them with this snivelling thing he had to put up with all trip. First chance he got he was going to sell it and the blasted device that came with it to the nearest trader for a gun. Seriously this was business not some children's adventure.

As it was Alex was enjoying his last few hours of normality, when he was out I the field he didn't miss everyday life. He was probably more comfortable out there than anywhere else but he did enjoy the luxury of a warm shower and a soft bed when he was in town. This morning he was finishing his daily exercise routine, fifty press up and fifty sit ups, it was likely to be his last for a while as he didn't do it when he was busy and he was always busy when he was working. The sun had already risen but they were still a few hours from port, a fact that Alex was annoyed at. He was losing valuable sunlight and as such would have to do more sooner to catch up with the other group. Yes Jude had sent another group ahead of him and they were already exploring the island, if they had travelled out inland upon arrival they could have a good few miles start on him. There was nothing for him to gain worrying about it though, so he packed his stuff and headed for breakfast. He wanted to be away the moment the boat moored if he could so being prepared was the best thing he could do.

The ship moored in the port town of Atara village and as it did Alex pushed his way to the front of the crowd preparing to exit the boat. To say it was a town was a bit funny, it was a small settlement but it was the most crowded corner of the island. It didn't take Alex long to find the market place where he found a stall selling supplies at a reasonable price. After glancing over the price list he spoke with the merchant running the stall.

“Morning.” He offered a gruff greeting. “Do you have any guns and ammunition? Also are you willing to buy these off me?” Alex said pulling out the Pokedex and Cubchoo's ball. He released the small Pokemon on the floor where the trader could get a good look at it.

Alan Destin

A cool, dim light slipped between the curtains as Alan Destin's eyes flickered open, breaking his deep sleep. Having been asleep the whole night, he had not known that the ship had and was subsequently preparing to leave. Unaware of the fact, Alan moved slowly from his bed before starting his typical routine of getting ready for the day. Freshening up and dressing quite quickly, he looked to the small puppy-like Pokemon at the foot of his bed. He was a Poochyena and to be more precise, Alan's new partner on his Pandoran exploration mission. Of course, Alan wouldn't leave the Pokemon with it's original name.

"Haiena," the young man said. "It's time to wake up." Okay, maybe the name wasn't too unique... Nonetheless, it got the job done and his partner didn't seem to be bothered by it.

Merely flicking his ears in response, the hyena-like Pokemon soon attempted to stand, stretching his body as he did so. Looking to his partner with a trustful glance, the Pokemon seemed to make a smile, prepared to leave. The two had only been together for about three days now, but even with that little amount of time, the two had already begun to understand each other's personalities and attributes, and to be honest, that was something extremely needed by partners.

But the two weren't the only ones getting close. For the past three days, multiple other trainers/explorers had been on the same ship, their eyes set on the same objective as Alan has. They were after the mysterious treasure of the ancient Pandoran kings. Though they were essentially enemies, Alan had talked to quite a few of them and while he barely remembered many of their names, October Carter had seemed to stand out a bit. To Alan, she was a pretty nice person, but she also seemed to be one of the only experienced explorers there.

Moments passed before a horn sounded, alerting the young man of the ship's readiness to embark. "Damn," sighed Alan. "It looks like we should be running or we won't make it." Giving his new partner a smirk, Alan moved towards the window, quickly opening it before running down the passage and towards the dock, Haiena right behind him. Below him, Alan felt the ship begin to move with each step, the horn honking more and more before finally reaching the side closest to the dock. "So you wanna jump with me or get in your Pokeball?"

Haiena barked eagerly at his trainer and jumped onto the railing, angling his trajectory before springing towards the dock, landing on all fours. "He thinks it's all a game," said Alan. "If I were to jump straight onto it I'd break my legs." Eyeing the water, Alan positioned himself to jump. "Cannon Ball!"

Within seconds, he felt the sting of impact and the loss of oxygen as he became surrounded by the ocean. Pulling himself upward, Alan coughed a bit of water from his mouth. I probably should have taken a larger breath before jumping, he thought.

Hearing a bark escape from Haiena's mouth, the trainer waded towards the beach, eventually receiving a welcome tackle from the young Poochyena. "You are so freaking restless." Turning his gaze to the embarked ship, Alan smiled, realizing that he could have been heading straight home had he not awoken in time. They probably even tried to wake me, he thought, and I slept right through it. Scolding himself aside, Alan took a few minutes to dry off and assess any water damage to his supplies, which was surprisingly low thanks to the tarpaulin.

Unfortunately, the supplies he did have happened to be low in the first place with only one bottle of water and no food whatsoever. If he was to make a journey through the untamed wilderness, rations may be what he needs the most. Understanding this, the young man made his way to the market which was remarkably close to the port. Seeing that the entire place seemed to be solely comprised of vendor-style stands, he went to the closest one, Haiena close in tow, with a middle-aged man behind the counter.

"Welcome to Pandora young man!" he said. "Feel free to browse my small, but useful supply of supplies. Well, maybe supply of supplies isn't the best words but you know what I mean."

"Maybe supply of items or collection of supplies would be a better word choice," replied Alan before turning to the small collection. It was only comprised of necessities, but that was all he needed right now. "Hmm, could I please have three bottles of fresh water and four portions of rations."

"Of course," said the man. "That will bring your total to exactly 1000P." Smiling, Alan fished out the exact change before trading it for his purchase. Telling the man his thanks, the younger of the two turned towards the temple at the center of village.

It appeared to be a pyramid of sorts, but that also meant that the inside must have some sort of artwork or hieroglyphics. Those two things could possibly give him a hint to where the treasure was. But did other people think the same before me, he thought suddenly. After all, if this was the first thing thought by him, and being as he knew he wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box, others must have. So with that said, Alan made his way towards the religious destination.

Iruzja Aleksandrov
>> Location: Route 5 <<

The mechanical clicking noise indicating a successful capture was music to Iruzja's ears. From what she saw in the battle, Dustox was a very capable fighter; one who would have outclassed her own Swablu were it not for the type disadvantage. Regardless, she walked over to where the Pokeball fell and picked it up, all the while Swablu stared with curiosity. "Dustox, show yourself," Iruzja commanded, opening the Pokeball. A bright blue beam shot out of the red-and-white sphere, and the beam subsequently materialized into Dustox.

"Dust...?" The Dustox mumbled, his bewildered eyes darting from Iruzja, to Swablu, and back to Iruzja. Now that he wasn't trying to rip Iruzja's head off, she could finally get a good look on him. It seemed Iruzja's knife had cut a fairly big slit through Dustox's upper left wing, and the wound oozed out some kind of white liquid. Dustox made it quite obvious that the wound was painful by making several hissing noises, and Iruzja picked up on his hints.

"You're not any good to me dead," Iruzja said coldly, slipping her hand through her coat slit and retrieving a Potion from one of her seemingly countless coat pockets. "Hold still." Iruzja sprayed the purple medicine on Dustox, using up about three quarters of its contents, before turning her attention to Swablu. After using up the rest of the bottle's contents on the cotton bird, she disposed of the bottle behind a tree and sat down on the forest floor, leaning against said tree. It seemed that this area of the forest was quite sparsely populated, as aside from Dustox she had seen neither hide nor hoof mark belonging to another Pokemon. The perfect place to replenish their empty stomachs.

Iruzja laid out a bag of Rations on the forest floor and opened it to reveal a large quantity of berries, a small loaf of bread and a generous amount of jam. She dumped the berries to the ground for her Pokemon to eat, while she sliced her bread and predictably smeared the jam all over it. It was not very filling without the berries, admittedly, but Iruzja was used to suppressing her hunger on her various explorations. In the back of her mind, she felt slightly proud over the fact that, most likely, few of her competitors could make the same claim.

After the group finished their meal (consuming a bottle's worth of water in the process as well, of course) it became apparent that neither Swablu nor Dustox were very keen on the idea of overeating, as their pile of berries still had quite a number of leftovers. (A/N: Being vague on purpose :p) Iruzja scooped up these remaining berries and stored them in her coat. They would still be good to eat come afternoon, and maybe these were one of those specific kinds of berries her Pokemon encyclopedia mentioned; the ones with curative properties should they be consumed by the Pokemon...well, she would have to seek another's confirmation as she hadn't really paid a lot of attention to their physical characteristics. In the meantime, though, she would pay a visit to Route 1.

***

>> Location: Route 1 <<

"Dustox, use Confusion and hold it in place. Swablu, Peck," Iruzja said in a string of commands. The two Pokemon were fighting against a Bulbasaur, one of the many Pokemon they designated as their training targets--victims, if you will--following their arrival on Route 1. The Bulbasaur, after a long and arduous struggle, finally gave in to its exhaustion, letting Swablu's beak drill through its green skin. The impact of the attack broke the force of Dustox's Confusion and sent Bulbasaur flying, before it eventually met a tree bark and fell down onto the ground, unconscious.

"Good, that's enough for now," Iruzja announced, recalling both of her Pokemon into their respective Pokeballs. Dustox and Swablu proved competent enough for Iruzja's tastes, so she eliminated the choice of releasing either of them for the time being. However, the training did tire her, and it's been a while since she last slept, what with all the researching she did on the boat from sundown all the way until sunrise. A small nap wouldn't be such a bad idea, right?

Iruzja strayed away from the main road and climbed up a slope on the right side, in search of a remote location for her to rest undisturbed. In time, to her silent delight, she would eventually reach a clearing through which a fresh water stream flowed. After refilling her empty water bottle at the stream, she found herself a nice, flat bed of grass for her to lie on, and did just that. Iruzja listened to the calming sounds of trickling water, chirping birds and blowing breezes before slowly drifting to sleep. She would wake up at the lightest of anomalies as she was trained to do, of course; but at the moment, only the soothing nothingness filled her mind.

"Hm?" The merchant turned around to see the man standing on the other side of his stall. "No, sorry. No guns. I do have a slingshot I crafted from wood and Caterpie silk though. But... You wish to sell your Pokémon and... oh, is that a PokéDex?" The merchant picked it up and inspected it, pushing a few buttons to see the different options and settings.

"There's a map to see previous towns you've visited, it's got a cell phone function, item descriptions, some games, you can see Pokémon you've encountered... Gee! It even has a TV function if it could pick up proper reception. This is quite a piece of machinery," the merchant looked up at to the man with a grin. As he was about to name his price, the PokéDex made a chirpy noise and he almost dropped it. When he opened it up, there was a pop-up on the screen. The merchant handed it back to the man.

"A message for you."

Subject: Good morning all!

Hello, dear friends. I hope you all had an interesting last three days and are well into your adventure to search for the treasure of Pandora. I'm using my satellites right now to see you from above and you all look like you're getting along fine with your Pokémon. That's excellent! They will be your greatest ally and most useful tool to try and survive Pandora. Remember, Pandora is said to be rebuilt by Pokémon, so you may only have one chance to have another Pokémon interpret you plundering their castles.

In other news, you're all doing a fine job so far. If you need any help progressing, do not hesitate to message me back. I am getting different words from different people all of the time on this side and your side of the world. Knowledge will serve you well on your expedition.

Well, that's all! Have a fun day today!

Richard Lee Ambrose

Richard made his way downstairs and handed over his room key to the man behind the front desk of the inn with his compliments. Now it was just a matter of waiting for young Ben to join him and they could be on their way, taking their first steps into the wilderness of Pandora. Richard had read the message sent to his pokedex while he was getting ready, and was doubting his decision to take things slow and steady. Nevertheless, he was still tempted to investigate the temple a little before starting down Route 1...

He could feel the benefits of his early night, both he and his Sentret were well rested. Although she was still sitting atop his head, she was much more energetic now that she had overcome her sea-sickness. She was looking around with keen eyes, often chirruping and trying to draw things to Richards attention. They were getting along well now that she wasn’t so horrifically grumpy, and he felt a friendship forming between them. It had been a long time since he’d had a pokemon, and he’d never exactly bonded with the ones he’d had. Perhaps this trip was a chance to change that. It was a chance to change a lot of things.

“Tret. Sen sen.”
“I suppose I ought to give you a name other than Sentret, shouldn’t I?” He asked the furry pokemon on his head. It was common practice to nickname pokemon, after all.
“Ent.” She replied, swatting him in the face with her bushy tail.
“No? You like just being Sentret?”
“Trrrrr.” She purred, leaning forward and giving his forehead a lick.

Laughing, Richard shook his head at her antics, promptly earning him another hit from her tail. He would have to try and remember not to make too many sudden head movements so long as she wanted to continue perching up there. He was relieved she was happy enough to keep Sentret as her name, he’d really had no idea as to what else he had been going to call her. With any luck the other pokemon he captured would be similarly minded. If he still had the skills to catch pokemon, that was. He knew he was going to need more than just Sentret to help him along his way. Ideally something strong, to help him with the physical tasks he was too old to manage by himself. And something that could fly, to help him reach things and scout locations…

Well, there was no sense trying to plan things like that out. He would just have to see what he came across and make the most of it. Thinking about the possibilities was making him eager to set off, and he hoped Benjamin wasn’t going to sleep in and keep him waiting.
“I wonder what pokemon Benjamin has Sentret. A friend for you, perhaps?”
“Re sen,” she replied. Dubiously, perhaps, but he couldn’t claim to be an expert at translating the moods of pokemon.
“Well, we’ll just have to wait and see I suppose.”

Rin Shavi
Human

Rin walked down the path with Beau on her shoulder and Feign walking by her side. In the distance, she saw a young man kneeling down off the side of the road. He was tending to his wounded Nidorino. It didn't look too serious, from what she could see. Rin decided that it would be best to ignore them, as appetizing as his backpack looked, she was indeed in no condition to try to swindle anyone, she was still recovering from the poison. The man then stopped what he was doing and took something out of his pocket, something Rin couldn't identify due to her distance. Not a minute afterwords, something in her backpack started emitting a high pitched noise muffled by its encasement. She took off her backpack and opened it to reveal her pokedex vibrating and a light flashing, it was indeed the culprit. She opened the pokedex and read her the message. It was from Laughner, and it was basically a "good luck" message saying that she should head to Kamen Rock. She put her pokedex back and tried to pass the young male unnoticed. Even though his back was turned to them, just as Rin passed by the man said "Well, hello there." Rin stopped dead in her tracks, as if his words had paralyzed her. He stood up and turned around. "The name's Trent, nice to meetcha," He said with an smile of indiscernible in intentions. Rin didn't say anything, but rather she simple watched him out of the corner of her eye. He looked her over, quite intrigued with her "amazonian" look. "Don't be like that, I'm just saying hi." Rin still didn't respond. "Uh..." He scratched his head out of discomfort. Rin noticed the weakness of his mannerisms and dropped her stoic facade. Just like pokemon, humans have tells that give away what they're thinking, and this person was no one to worry about. "Why do you keep your pokemon out of their pokeballs?"

Rin turned to Trent and said "Would you like to cooped up in some small place, only to marvel at what's on the outside rather than to actually experience that world?" Rin's face started to show hints of anger. "Inside a pokeball you're looking through a window, you can barely move, and if your trainer dies then you may be out of luck. Laughner called pokemon "tools", but in reality their not much different than us." She was more than irritated, not at Trent, but at the idea of Human superiority, and really the idea of capturing pokemon.

"Uh..." He said, scratching his head. "I've actually never thought of it like that..." Rin looked at the boy, he seemed aloof and pretty normal for his age.

"Cut the act," She said. "There's no way someone like you would be considered by Laughner, he needs people who are actually competent in the ways of treasure hunting, you act like a normal city boy who couldn't find his way around a treasure map." Trent sighed at her theory, again scratching his head.

"Sorry, but this is the way I am. That said..." He reached into his backpack and pulled out a gun and pointed it at Rin. "I do know my way around a map or two." Rin's expression remained unchanged. "Now listen up, I want your backpack, give it to me." Rin didn't move at his request. He fired a warning shot, causing Rin to flinch, and said in a loud voice "I said give it to me!" Rin instead smiled, and that smile turned into a muffled laugh as she covered her mouth to hold in her outburst. "Wh-what's so funny?" He asked.

"Look, if you want to go with me, all you had to do was ask. Scare-tactics won't work on me, and you definitely wouldn't shoot anyone, let alone a pokemon. Your Nidorino there is hurt, and I definitely would have heard a gunshot if you'd shot whoever did that to it." She mumbled a few words and then Beau used String Shot to pull the gun from Trent's hand onto the ground towards Rin, and she picked up. "You're not getting this back, another shot might cause some of the more dangerous creatures to come out. Kangaskahn specifically. They get very defensive of their young, you'd probably be killed." Trent was clearly jarred by all of this, and at the same time in awe of her intelligence. Rin walked past him, putting the gun in her backpack (though she wouldn't dare use it), and walked over to the Nidorino. She gave it an Oran Berry from her fanny pack to heal it, promptly getting up to continue towards Kamen Rock.

Trent started to blush, either out of embarrassment or out of wonder and attraction (or both), and said "Uh...hold on." Rin looked back at him, waiting for him to continue. "I actually only have this Nidorino, named Kain...other than that the gun was the only thing I had to actually get by. So..." He looked away from her and started scratching his head again. "Do you think that maybe...maybe I could tag along?"

Rin didn't say anything, and it looked as if she were waiting for him to say more, then her serious expression lightened and she said, "Just until we get to Kamen Rock. After that you'll have to stand on you're own to feet. The name's Rin, the Caterpie here's Beau and the Electrike's Feign. Come on." She turned back to the road and continued down the path carrying Beau on her shoulder and Feign walking her side, with greenhorns Trent and Kain following behind.

Robert Hawkins

Robert peered through the trapdoor at the shimmering shapes formed by the light; Pawniard and Magby joined him.
“The legendary bird trio,” he said awe-struck, “I’ve seen the images of these birds before but I never expected to see them here…this land gets more interesting the more I discover and yet the questions continue to go unanswered.”
“MAG! MAG!” Magby leapt through the trapdoor and tottered off into darkness.
“Where is that little guy going?!” Robert followed stopping only to lift Pawniard into the hole with him.

They found Magby off to one side near a strange red object. Robert picked it up and dusted it off holding it to his eye for inspection.
“An orb….glass I think….Is this what the merchant was asking about?” He pocketed and turned to leave. A chill crept through his spine as the three went to leave the suddenly freezing chamber. It was then that another object caught his eye. Upon further investigating the object turned out to be two. A strange stone and what appeared to be a small disk-like object, “Huh….a fire stone if I’m not mistaken and what looks like a TM but....not as we know them. Could this be a primitive version of a TM? Amazing!” Robert quaked with excitement and continued towards the light of the trapdoor. The room was exhausted of anything truly interesting and the chill that filled the chamber cut to the bone.

After a short walk the man and his two pokemon arrived in the entrance hall to the temple unaccosted. The cold had seemed to follow them. Robert’s breath now hung in front of him as he exhaled adding to a mist which had appeared within the tunnels as they had walked.
“PAWNIARD! PAW PAAAAW!” Pawniard exclaimed as the mist tightened into a ball in front of him. Laughter echoed from the walls and the ball of mist developed eyes and a mouth.
“A Ghastly!” Robert had never seen one before and the shock of its appearance had caused him to freeze as it floated there, tongue lolling out as it turned slowly to face the man. “Magby! Ember!” The pokemon did as it was bid and bathed the ghastly in flame. In retaliation the ghastly licked the fire pokemon causing it to recoil in disgust. “Again Magby!” Flame shot forth once again to envelop the ghost pokemon who finally stopped laughing as the flames began to lick at its sides. Pawniard looked on in fear as the ghost turned on it rather than Magby, its grin had returned to its face and laughter began again as it made eye contact with the small pokemon.
“P-P-Paw…pawww,” Pawniard fell through the ghastly and hit the ground snoring. The ghastly’s laughter grew louder as it continued to attack the unconscious pawniard.
“Damn! Pawniard!” Robert held out the pokemon’s pokeball returning it. “Okay Magby! Smog!” this time a deep black smoke was fired towards the enemy. The ghastly’s laughter stopped once more as the attack hit and it began to cough. Anger burned in its eyes as it turned on Robert, once again ignoring Magby. Its long purple tongue scraped against Robert’s face ripping at the skin and drawing blood. Robert cried out in pain; Magby cried out in anger.
“Magby! Ember again! We’ve made it angry! It must be weakening!” The fire pokemon attacked once more. The Ghastly turned from within the flames to finally face its little red attacker. Their eyes locked, Magby collapsed, Ghastly laughed. The laughter was short lived as it slowly turned into uncontrollable coughing. It was during this fit of coughing that a small red and white ball struck the ghost, taking it by surprise.
“Damn it, this had better work!” Robert held his breath as the ball pulled Ghastly into itself and began to shake.

Robert gave short thank yous to the merchant before he went on his way. He walked alone before Pinhead finally showed herself. Her head looked big, mouth stuffed full from whatever she embezzled. Robert smiled at the sight, not only because it looked ridiculous, but because whatever she had was big. She had something he'd want. He'd asked for her to get food, so she must have gotten a lot. Maybe she was more reliable than he thought she was.

"Well, come on, let's see it!" Pinhead opened her mouth to let the object go. It dropped immediately, forcing Robert to pull off some saving half-dive just to catch it. The object hit his hands heavy and when he saw it he'd thought he went blind, or maybe even crazy. Instead of the few packs of food he imagined to be there, he saw a rock worth two hands in size. It was dark in color, a deep and ominous purple that made the rock seem like its core went into another dimension. He was not interested in that, as curious as it was. He couldn't eat a rock. "What the hell is this supposed to be!?" Robert yelled, tossing the rock down into the sand.

"Shup?" Pinhead made a confused face at him. Seeing it only made Robert angrier.

"Don't 'Shup?' me! I told you to get food--food!--not rocks!" Pinhead's eyes narrowed a bit, as if she were offended by what he'd said in a way. She started talking after him, as best Pokemon could do, mimicking the influxes of his voice. Robert narrowed his eyes. "Are you mocking me?" Pinhead narrowed her eyes as well, repeating him in Pokemon. Robert frowned. "This is serious! How am I supposed to eat a rock! It's not food!" Pinhead echoed him again. "Don't you know what food looks like?! And stop that!" Again Pinhead copied him exactly, holding the same facial expression he did. The two of them stared at each other, both holding angry faces. Roberts was genuine, while Pinhead's was just her own act. The way her face was put together was almost comical and seemed almost like a cartoonish version of his own self. He didn't believe he looked like that, but the more he stared at her, the less able he was to keeping his own face. It began to falter, moving into a smile that he couldn't control. He tried to frown, he was still angry dammit! But the muscles in his face wouldn't comply, forcing him into goofy expression. It was Pinhead's own smile when she noticed that made him give up the fight.

Suddenly his own anger felt stupid, even though it was perfectly justified. She was a ghost Pokemon that fed off emotions. Of course she wouldn't know what normal human food looked like. Especially one packed into a container for travel. Robert bent down, picking up the rock.

"This," he said, gesturing to it, "is not food. Okay?" Pinhead eyed the rock and then nodded her head. "Good." He swung his pack around and stuffed it inside. He was low on cash, maybe they could sell it? The merchant had it for a reason. Maybe it was valuable, whatever it was. Even if he couldn't sell it, he could always use it to bash Pinhead with, in case she does something else irritating or stupid. Robert sighed and continued on once again. "Now help me find a 'Geodude Cave'."

=#=

There's wasn't much time between finally getting rest and having to get back up into gear. It was best to get daylight as soon as daylight could be claimed, and as such, he only slept a few hours. He was surprised to see Pinhead wide awake at this time, he himself a little drowsy. She'd actually scared him awake. When he opened his eyes, she was right directly in his line of view. It wasn't exactly fun.

Robert collected his supplies, not that he'd unpacked, and left the modest and cheap room that he'd acquired. He left the room with Pinhead following close behind and paid for his short stay here, which was gladly cheap.

"I'm here as a traveler. Exploring Pandora, I'm sure everyone has told you." Robert smiled as he spoke to the person whom he paid, omitting details that weren't all that necessary. "Do you know how I can get through the forest? A path, a guide, anything?" He stopped, considering for a moment. "Or if there's something more interesting in the Temple, I could always play my hand around there a little bit."

He raised a brow as a beep came from the pocket he kept his PokeDex. A question mark came to his head. Whatever it was about, he'd check it later.

KAMEN ROCK:
Spoiler:

Kamen Rock

Kamen Rock was the first campsite created after Atara Village was populated. The field it is built on is beautiful one, with flowers decorating the ground and stunning mountains can be seen to the north. It's a breath of fresh air after the forests between here and Atara Village. Large tents surround a rock formation, the largest tent of all stands in the centre. This is the tent of Nero Oldman, the founder of the campsite and fearless leader of the people that live there.

Like any camp, there are merchants here selling their goods and wares. Don't bother bartering with them; the people of Kamen Rock, though only been here briefly, have developed stubborn qualities from their leader and surroundings.

So, if you wish, you may challenge Nero to a battle. If you win, he offers you advice and gifts for winning. If you don't think you can battle him yet, there are a number of trainers who are just itching for excitement as well as grassy fields surrounding the village which may have some Pokémon in them. If you're a pacifist, merchants offer advice mostly for free. Some merchants will even give free items for a show.

After you've done here, you can either head north to Route 2 through the mountains or west to Route 3. But that may not be for a while; there is so much to do at Kamen Rock.

Stayed at 'Geodude's Cave' in Atara. Grumpy innkeeper but cheap. Not sure about other inns in Atara. Planning to adventure with Ambrose. Catch new Pokémon?

After Benjamin had finished writing his entry in his journal, further detailing the sights he had seen today and the courage from his new friend, he packed it back in his bag and headed down the stairs, passing back his key to the innkeeper with a thank-you. He had released Lucy for the night, who was perched atop his shoulder, still snoozing. It didn't take long for Benjamin to notice Ambrose waiting for him. Had he really taken that long? He felt a little embarressed now that he had made the man wait. Perhaps he could repay him if they went looking for Pokémon today.

"G-good morning, Mr. Am-Ambrose," Benjamin said, giving a warm smile to the man. "Sorry I, sorry I took so l-long. What w-would you like to-to do today?"

Benjamin turned his head as he noticed conversation behind them. The innkeeper was talking to another one of the Pandora explorers. Robert Macintosh, if Benjamin's memory served him well (which it always did). He knew it was rude to eavesdrop but to get more experience and write about more people and more things sounded like the way to go.

"M-maybe we should..." and without asking Ambrose's permission, Benjamin spoke out to Macintosh. "Excuse me, Mr. Macintosh? May I, may I take a picture of you?" He held out the camera around his neck, motioning to the scene around him.

"A traveller you say?" the innkeeper said as he accepted his key back. "Well, they don't really sell maps here anywhere. Nobody's been bothered to make one and with satellites and all of that jargon, you can just take a picture." The innkeeper placed the key back on the hook and made a face.

"But, if it's interesting you're after, I do have a small item search that somebody posted here yesterday morning," he pulled up a piece of paper and placed it on the table. "A Scyther's Claw for 3000P. It's a hard job, but apparently their swords never de-sharpen. And the ones on Pandora are hardier than the ones back home in Kanto."

He offered the paper to Robert with a nod.

"I's suggest you take someone to help, though. Scyther's are ruthless."

Rachel "the fox" Worth // Route One

"I CAN'T believe we spend the night at that freaking temple and found freaking nothing!" Rachel complained, standing in front of said temple, kicking the gravel that held it. Her Slugma, Natsu, slithered and wavered her way near her, watching her plight as Rachel finally stopped from the sounds of a strange low-growling noise. "Ah... hunger... we meet again."

"Slug...ma..." Natsu cried its low pitched cry.

"I WISH I can eat insects like you," Rachel responded her Slugma with a sigh. "I bet they're crunchy and stuff, y'know? Maybe even taste like chicken... GAH, CURSE THE HUMAN FOOD CHAIN!"

"Slug...ma..."

"Perhaps," Rachel inquired. "But it will require a sophisticated trap, y'know? Twigs... Grass... Leaves... SCREW that!"

"Slug...ma..."

Rachel then grunted in frustration as she fiddled with her hair then let loose a big sigh when she stopped. "Damn it, I'm going crazy," she realized, after she turned to Natsu. "I don't even know what the hell you're saying. You could of said the F-bomb right then and I wouldn't know it."

"Slug..."

"J-Just... return," she then said, finally retuning her Slugma back into its pokeball.

****

After returning to Atara Village, her Pokedex started to beep. Rachel picked it up as she then found out she'd gotten mail from Jude - the man who hired her to find Pandora. Although, it wasn't addressed to her just personally; it was e-mailed to the 'PANDORA GROUP'.

Way to characterize my importance... Rachel could then only meekly thought. She skimmed through the e-mail, with the just of it, according to her, was: blah, blah, blah, have a fun time and you all are awesome and you will all have pancakes except there will be no pancakes!! With that, she turned off her pokedex.

But where to go next? Well, according to some of the villagers in well, the village, north-east from the village lies a vast forest where pokemon are habitable. Vicious? Maybe. Delicious? She certainly hoped so! Her stomach can't hold forever; it virtually even began to bark. It was clear what she had to do to now -- go out in the wood and catch herself a nice pokemon to eat!

****

What was worse than the endless stream of green leaves from the sturdy brown trees? The freaking grass; it reminded Rachel of the jack card. Grass was like a wildcard, according to her -- being all... innocent and whatnot; only Rachel knew that grass was evil. She didn't know why or how, but she knew it was. And boy, she counted the countless days that she was alone. Her stomach rumbled as she looked to her left, then to her right. Soon she saw a glimmer of heaven - it was a Pidgey, who just had roosted on top of a lone branch on a small tree. While at first she might of thought it could make a nice chicken dinner, she had something else in mind.

"Someone told me about Pidgey's once!" She said, with a nice gleam to her face. Rachel... whomever touches a Pidgey on the belly...shall become IMMORTAL! Screw having a feast; I COULD HAVE IMMORTALITY! Hell, if someone tells me not to sign on a dotted line, I'll write, no thanks! I'M IMMORTAL!! That was the truth of it according to her, so she had to catch it. She brought out Natsu's pokeball and threw it in the air,as it opened up, releasing it from the air, onto the ground.

"Slugmaaaa..." it derpingly cried upon being sent out.

"Okay, Slugma! Get ready for some immortality! I just hope my battling skills are as great as that poker match against that old hag! Poor old bat never saw that royal flush coming...Anyway! Uh... use your Smog attack to rough it up!"

Natsu did as intrusted, releasing a foul purple odor from its mouth, waving the way towards the wild bird. The wild Pidgey quickly realized the approaching threat, and retaliated by flying away just at the nick of time to avoid inhaling the fumes. Then it flew lower towards the ground, using the base of its wings to send a horde of sand towards Natsu, stinging it's eyes as Natsu cried from un-confortness.

Okay... that was 'supposed' to poison it... Rachel thought upon Natsu's failed attack. Wait, could this be the work of the immortal powers of Pidgey?!

Soon, Pidgey followed up with a Tackle attack, hitting the torso of Natsu as she stumbled harder on the ground. "Hang tough!" Rachel encouraged, as Natsu soon got back up, with her eyes slowly healing. "Quick - Yawn attack!"

Natsu then obeyed by releasing a pink bubble of pure questionable vapor as it wafted it's way towards the pidgey, popping it on it's beak. Rachel got excited that it landed, but... nothing was happening. Oh my GOD! Rachel worried. Immortal powers are more POWERFUL than I thought!

Rachel didn't know what to do then, as Pidgey soon swooped into deliver another Tackle attack to finish Natsu off, but then soon began to feel dearly, dropping from the sky, on to the ground. Rachel blinked as she looked upon the Pidgey. It was asleep. She then slapped her forehead.

"Oh yeaaaaah... yawn takes a while to be in effect, haha... Hm, now that it's asleep, maybe now I can catch it!" She then tried to take full advantage of this opportunity, as she then took out one of her empty pokeballs. But before she threw it... "Mmm, this is the part where I need to say a catch phrase... Hm... Here's catching at chu', Pidgey! No, that's not right... Uh, gotta catch'em all, GO POKEBALL... wow. That sucked. Oh I know!" After finally getting her pokeball ready, she aimed it right at the Pidgey. "Just like at poker, I'm betting 10 gold at this! Goooo pokeball!"

The pokeball broke open and the Ghastly was free once more.
"Damn it!" Robert sidestepped slowly around the laughing, purple orb to place himself between the sleeping magby and the ghost pokemon. It was then that the ghastly attacked. Floating straight toward Robert the laugh growing louder and louder until it felt as though there was never any other sound. It was truly maddening and the gaseous enemy was going to barrel straight into Robert. Robert held his ground, closed his eyes and braced for impact.

The impact never came but an icy cold went through Robert's chest and a cry went up from behind him. Ghastly had passed through him and was now licking Magby as it lay asleep. The tongue scraped across the red skin shredding it as it did so.
"STOP IT!" Robert called and approached the ghost, helpless to do anything. The call seemed to amuse the ghost and it turned to face Robert. It's tongue was still lolling out as it flew back towards the man. Robert raised his arms in a feeble defense and backed up until he hit a wall. The tongue scraped across his bare arms but this time there was no pain. After the lick there was no feeling at all. He found he could not move his hands and soon his arms dropped limply to his sides. Before he could cry out he lost all muscle control and slumped painfully to the floor. A pool of crimson soaked the dirt beneath his arms. The Ghastly floated close to the one eye not facing the dirt. Robert's vision was filled with fire as he lay there.
"MAGBY!" the cry was one of the sweetest sounds Robert had heard for a long time. The Ghastly's smile was wiped from its face as the flames licked at its side. It turned on the pokemon and attempted to attack.

The battle raged for a couple of mintues before feeling began to return to Robert's limbs. The pokemon traded blows and neither seemed to be ready to back down from the battle. Robert tried repeatedly to call but at best only grunts escaped his numbed lips. Then magby was hit hard. The pokemon hit the ground and this time was not merely sleeping. That was all it took for Robert to fight through his paralysis. He returned the felled Magby and threw yet another pokeball at his attacker from his laying position on the ground. The ball barely made it to the attacker. Robert held his breath once more and fought to regain more control, enough control to escape if the pokemon escaped once more.

Robert Macintosh

Robert raised a brow as the innkeeper gay him small details on a job he could make. Scyther's Claw, huh? He took the paper in his hand, taking a short time to examine it before bringing his eyes back to the man talking to him.

"Well it is interesting." Robert smiled. "I think I'll give it a whirl. How much bad could it do? And I might even get extra for bringing two." He slipped the paper into his back pocket. "Thank you." He turned to leave, but was stopped when he heard a timid call of his name. Looking towards the source he Benjamin, a journalist that he met on the boat and talked to briefly. He didn't know much about him, except that he always stuttered. Perched snoozing on his shoulder was a Rufflet, a kind of Pokemon he'd never seen before in his life. He'd heard of it, but... Hearing and seeing were different. Near Benjamin was Richard Ambrose. He was an old man that decided to partake on this journey of exploration. It went against the norm, of course. An old man searching around in a jungle for buried treasure. But maybe he was more eccentric, much more spry than he seemed to be. Robert wanted to ask what possessed him to come along, but never got the time or the nerve to ask. He somewhat admired the old man, but something about him made Robert keep his questions to himself. Seeing the two men, whom were unnoticed before, Pinhead made a surprised noise and disappeared from behind Robert's shoulder, possibly to cause invisible mischief.

Robert made a face when Benjamin asked to take his picture. It wasn't exactly something he ran into every day. In fact, he couldn't recall someone ever asking to take a picture of him. He smiled, thinking the invitation was kind of cool.

"Uh, sure! Why not?" He grinned and faced the journalist for the camera shot. "So what is this for? Your journal?"

Martha Elson

Sea sickness had never bothered Martha before and today was no exception. Boat trips were few and far between with her, living far from any of the region's ports, but she had found the gentle rocking to be quite relaxing. Her guess was that not all of the other passengers felt the same. Lying down upon her cabin's bed, the boat swaying rhythmically from side to side, Martha felt quite comfortable. Like she could lie here for the next hundred years without complaint. Sure, the bed was a little too firm for her tastes, but she expected that this would be the best she would get get for a while now. It would certainly be a lot better than what she'd have to sleep on once she left the boat and stepped foot on the coast. Somehow Martha doubted that she would get much better out in a forest or half way up a mountain.

Martha had gotten herself clothed, cleaned and fed this morning, but she had found herself being drawn back to the bed for a short nap. She wasn't sure how 'short' it had actually been but it was still early morning, and if she remembered correctly then the boat was supposed to be docking at Pandora later today. She had gotten a few extra moments of rest already and she really didn't want to risk getting off the boat late, struggling to drag herself out of bed. Martha kept herself wide awake, checking through the supplies that one Mr. Laughner had left her, because nobody would want to venture into the unknown half asleep, would they? she thought.

What she did know was this this was the second boat to settle down on Pandora carrying some of Laughner's mercenaries. Martha wasn't sure if any others were going to be following, but there had certainly been a boat full of explorers and treasure hunters who had arrived half a day earlier. This put her at a disadvantage. It was a slight inconvenience, but twelve hours could easily be made up with some swift steps and quick thinking.

The sound of a spring stretching and compressing, something that had been going all night, was one of the other reasons that Martha was still wide awake. It was also the thing that had woken her up in the first place earlier this morning. Her bed hadn't broken despite what she had first thought, but she was pretty sure that the Spoink that stood in the corner had. It had insisted on staying outside of its Pokéball for the night, and while Martha had tried her best to get it back inside, it was a stubborn and rather cunning pig. Martha had caved, letting it sleep outside. While she hadn't seen the Psychic type fall asleep the night before, she had watched it sleep earlier this morning, its tiny black eyes drooped closed and its body leaning forward. It hadn't stopped bouncing in place though despite being in a deep slumber, and each hop sounded like a rusty old spring.

Martha had checked over the creature with the Pokédex that she had found stuffed in her luggage. One of the many bits and pieces given to her by Laughner no doubt, and it had come with some other miscellaneous survival gear. Upon scanning the Spoink it said that the creature actually needed to maintain this constant bouncing in order to keep its heart beating. It was imperative to its very survival. Although she was sure that such a creature could keep the action going indefinitely as it had done all night, she found the frailty of the creature's life... quite disturbing.

She had also named it Grete.

There was a gentle knock on the door and Martha's head twisted towards the source of the sound. It was clearly enough to waken Grete from her slumber, who had begun to snuffle at the base of the door as if trying to tell who was on the other side by smell alone. The woman slid from the edge of her bed, resting her feet gently against the wooden floor and then pushing herself upwards. The knocking repeated. Martha called out, saying that she would be ready in a moment. She stretched, and then slowly waddled towards the door, pulling on a jacket as she passed the chair which it rested on.

Gripping the handle of the door, Martha twisted it and pulled the it open, knocking Grete to the side as she did so. The Manipulation Pokémon quickly regained its balance, perching itself beside Martha and brushing against her leg. Standing in front of her was one of the crewmen of the ship, adorned in his uniform and completely alone. He seemed to be rushing, his breath a little heavy and his speech hastened.

“Ma'am,” he said, nodding to Martha. “We're ten minutes away from the port at Atara village, Pandora. If you could collect any things that you have brought with you and head to the main deck we'd be happy to unload to unload you and your fellow passengers off of the ship as quickly as possible.”

“Yes, yes. Of course. I'll get ready now. Thanks for letting me know.” Giving a polite smile to the man, she slowly shut the door as she moved back to the centre of the room. Martha glanced at Grete who quickly moved to stand (or hop) beside her.

Turning back around, Martha rested both hands on her hips. Quickly scanning the room for anything of hers that she had left scattered around around, which included one or two things that Martha had been fiddling with over the course of the trip, she moved to place them into the rucksack that contained the rest of Martha's essentials. She swung the bag over her shoulder, slipping both arms into the straps and spending a moment adjusting them. The Pokéballs she had been given were clipped to her belt, which included the ball that Grete was supposed to have been sleeping in, and the Pokédex was slipped into Martha's pocket, zipped shut just to be safe. Both boots were pulled on and fastened tightly, fitting comfortably around her feet. Grete was already half way out of the door by the time that her new trainer was ready to leave, clearly eager to escape the confines of the cabin and the ferry.

Tilting her head, she motioned for the creature to head on through to the main deck. She grinned, bounding off out of Martha's line of sight. Although following suit, Martha was not feeling quite as excitable. Decidedly average, really, despite her knowing that this was a rather important few minutes of her adventure across Pandora. These were the first few steps.

Martha's steps down the walkway were made cautiously, as if testing to see if the floor could hold the weight of each footstep. Continuing her descent onto solid ground, she kept her eyes pinned on what she could see of Atara village. The buildings were in fine condition, but that was to be expected considering the village was only a few months old. It seemed pleasant enough, although a decade in the heavily built areas of Cerulean city had left her already missing the spiral pillars of stone and concrete that composed it. The closest to that was a pyramid of stone that sat directly in the middle of the village. Martha knew it was a temple of some kind, having overheard two men on the ship discussing it. Atara wasn't nearly as make-shift as Martha had expected it to be though.

Grete continued to leap up and down, waiting for Martha to stumble back onto dry land. She hopped in place just at the edge of the walkway. Every few steps that Martha made was mimicked by the Spoink, bouncing further into town. Chasing after the creature would only cause it to bound off at full speed, so she kept her pace slow. The cool outside air tugged at her hair, but thankfully she had already tied it back, stopping it from whipping against her face and neck. With a warm jacket on, however, it wasn't too bad. Grete proved to be a little stronger than the wind, and upon bouncing up to her trainer, gripped the loose fabric of her trousers and attempted to pull her trainer along. Martha would tell you that Grete was stronger than she looked.

“Calm down, Grete. We're not leaving yet.” The Pokémon still tugged impatiently at her trouser leg. “We haven't got any food with us, and unless you want to spend all day looking for scraps of food in a forest I suggest we go and look for a market place of some kind.”

Responding with a soft grunt, the Spoink looked noticeably disappointed that they weren't charging blindly into danger. Martha was a more cautious sort when it came to threats to her life, and wasn't the kind of person to do such a thing. She just hoped that Grete would understand it was too risky a disposition to have. It might have gotten them an early head start on the treasure that they were supposed to be finding, only to be eaten by a hungry Ursaring in the process. Martha moved up towards one of the locals. A woman in her late twenties by the look of it, and one carrying a few bags filled with food. It was likely that she had just purchased them. Perfect.

With a smile upon her face, Martha assumed as pleasant a stance as she could. “Excuse me. Can you point me towards a market or shop of some description?”

“New here, huh?” she asked. Martha nodded, and the woman pointed back in the direction that she had walked from. “I saw the boat docking and figured that Atara would have some more visitors. Market's just down there on your right. We're a small town, so it's hard to miss.”

“Thank you, miss.”

Grete smiled at the woman before leading the way, with Martha following each bounce with a footstep of her own. The Spoink's strides were quite tremendous for such a small creature, and while it would have been difficult to keep up if she had tried, Martha didn't even bother to. She let Grete have to stop every few minutes to let her trainer catch up.

The market did come into sight quite quickly though, and was exactly what she had expected of a small town market. Various stalls were set up selling various goods. Most were probably set up by locals, although one or two were bound to be owned by travelling merchants selling goods from overseas. Many sold food which was of immediate interest to Martha, although a few other curiosities remained dotted around the market place. All in all it was basic, but it was enough for the people of the village to survive which was what mattered.

After a little bartering with one of the salesmen who sold, among other things, food and water, Martha had managed to get herself a decent price for a few days worth of rations. She had bought herself 500P worth of food. It was all very robust, simple foods that wouldn't go rotten in any time soon. Bread and cheese, among a couple of other things that could make a few meals with a bit of inspiration. She also bought another bottle of water from the man, and piled the new perishables within her bag. For nearly half of her funds Martha thought it was a little steep for a few days worth of rations, figuring that she was being charged traveller's rates. It was the best that she could do.

“Is there anything else you'd like to take a look at? I'm sure I've got a few other things which might interest you,” said the merchant, a devilish grin across his lips. Salesmen were always trying to squeeze you for every last penny, but it was their job.

Martha shook her head and began to turn away, content with what she had bought. She froze and slowly twisted back into place though, locking eyes with the salesman. “Actually, you probably know your way around the area quite well, correct? Better than I do, I would hope. As an adventurer, is their anything worth me doing in the area?” Learning about the area would be an intelligent move, Martha believed.

The already vibrant grin of the salesman grew even larger. “Well, ah... maybe I could tell you a little bit about Pandora. I know a thing or two of course, but I might need a little help to remember just about everything.”

“I'm not paying you if that's what you mean.”

The salesman gave a hearty laugh, twirling a pencil between his fingers. “Ah well, it was as good a try as any I suppose. How I see it you've got four choices from here. If you're looking for Pokémon then...” His free hand pointed behind him, twirling his finger in the general direction of the huge temple behind him. “...you've got the temple over there. It's a lot bigger than it looks, I swear. It's got plenty of Pokémon too. First time I went in I ended up with about a million Zubat bites. An' there are the two paths straight out of town. Route one's probably your best bet, since it's a fairly tame walk, but if you're feeling lucky and pretty damn well prepared you could always take Route five. But, ah... there's a reason few people come back from there in one piece.”

Martha pondered her options. Her three options. “And what's the fourth one? You said I had four choices.”

“You can turn those pretty little legs of your back around and go back home.” He chuckled.

“Alright, thanks for the help.” Grete snorted in a similar tone, likely expressing her own thanks to the man. Martha only spent a few moments pondering her options, having decided almost as soon as the salesman had mentioned it. What better place to start? “Route one?”

"Y-yes sir!" Benjamin said, putting the camera to his eye to take a few snapshots. He tried to make them as candid as possible but took some professional-ish ones, in case that was what Laughner was looking for. Candid always made an article feel like home. That is, unless it was a government involved one, because then it looked like you were some crazy paparazzi. "F-for the journal."

After he had taken a few, Benjamin took a few of the innkeeper's 'office' (he had gone off now to attend to rooms or something) and a few of room they were standing in. He wouldn't use all of these, unless he had to make a picture book and fully outline everything. Should he interview some of the older residents, just in case?

"Wh-what are you off-off to now, Mr. Macintosh?" Benjamin asked, pushing his glasses up his nose.

The merchant offered him a slingshot, but Alex wasn't interested. The merchant began to look at his Pokemon but was quickly distracted by his Pokedex. As the merchant examined the device Cubchoo began to speak.

“Cub! Cub!” It began to cry, “You're going to sell me!”

“Pipe down!” Alex yelled at his Pokemon, he didn't know what it was saying but he made a guess. “for now you can stay, I need a weapon so you will have to do. But you'll have to work if you want to eat.”

The merchant finished describing the device but was cut off by an incoming message. He handed it back to Alex who opened the message.

Well that wasn't much use. But if the device was his only way of contacting Jude maybe it was worth keeping round, that and it could give him some useful information about the thing dripping snot on his boots. Sighing he composed a reply to Jude, mainly complaining about the sever lack of supplies.

Good morning Mr. Laughner, I am replying to your message to complain about the sever lack of supplies on this venture. I do not believe that the provided equipment is sufficient to complete the task at hand and frankly do not know how you expect us to continue under such circumstances.
It went on, ending.

With the message completed Alex reviewed his options, he could reply or reply to all. He knew as much about technology as he did about Pokemon. It was one of the reasons he had Jennifer. Not sure which one he should pick he picked reply to all to be on the safe side.
Well it looked like he would need his Pokemon and this thing, so he may as well stock up on supplies. Looking over the price list he saw things such as potions and what not he ignored them.
“I'll have two bottles of water and three ration packs!” Alex demanded the merchant, handing over nearly half his money, he packed the items he received into his pack before heading on.
Eventually he reached a junction near the edge of town. He could go on to route 1 or route 5, very creative he though to himself. Route 1 seemed the safe option, where as route 5 was a lot more treacherous. For now he was best off staying on the well trodden routes, so he picked route 1.
“Keep up!” Alex yelled at Cubchoo.
“Choo!” The small bear complained “It's too hot!” He waited for the Pokemon to catch up before carrying on. As they trudged on Alex's boot brushed against something in the undergrowth. He stopped to take a look at what he had found and felt a tickling feeling climbing up his leg.
“Get off!” he shouted brushing a Spinarak off his leg. A few more appeared from the bushes, it seemed that he had disturbed their next.
“Spin! Spin!” The biggest yelled angrily launching a poison sting attack at Alex. Alex covered his face with his arm and though he took a few sharp spines he managed to get away without getting too badly hurt.
“Attack!” He yelled at Cubchoo, not knowing what to expect. Cubchoo stared at him blankly for a second, having clearly no idea what to do. Alex hadn't stated what attack he wanted Cubchoo to use, since he had no idea about the Pokemon “Well get on then!”
“Cub,” Cubchoo began to suck in the snot hanging form it's nose. “choo!” It released a blast of freezing air in the form of an icy wind. The attack hit the leader of the Spinaraks but only angered the Pokemon more.
“Spin!” The leader cried and the group of Spinaraks began to attack with a mass string shot attack, directed at both Alex and Cubchoo. Alex drew his knife to cut through the sticky string but Cubchoo became tangled.
“If you want a job done!” Alex began to mutter as he advanced on the Spinaraks knife drawn. Though they had the advantage of numbers they were fairly timid and most of them scattered leaving only the leader and a lone brave Spinarak remaining.”You have to do it your self!” Alex said bringing his knife down on the biggest Spinarak. The other was next and if he got them they would be dinner.
