Recently, the former director of Game Creative at Nintendo of America, Howard Phillips, uploaded some images of a precursor to the Nintendo Entertainment System, called the Nintendo Advanced Video System (AVS for short). It had stuff the NES never had, such as wireless controllers, but this hardware never did see the light of day. And all of this would have been acceptable in the 80s, given the fact that computers and games were on the uprise.
Spoiler:

What the Nintendo AVS would have looked like.

However, also unveiled was a peripheral for the NES that wasn't acceptable in that time period. And it was, of all things, a knitting peripheral. An advertisement that shows a NES with a controller in the dock of some kind of machine that was knitting something - presumably legwarmers.
Spoiler:

Knit me something! A shirt! Anything!

Given the fact that most of the stuff for the NES was geared to children, mostly male, knitting, whether it's in a game or if it's the real thing, wouldn't have been too popular.

The idea was nice, concise, and to the point, but there were probably a lot of strings attached with a knitting system like this. What do you think?

Oh and appropriate song for this.

The Nintendo AVS thing seems kind of cool actually. It was probably abandoned because it would be too expensive in retail. I think the NES was so popular was because it was so affordable....before the Wii it was the best selling console of all time. So yeah.

As for the knitting thing...that is just ridiculous...

The AVS looks kinda cool. I'd love to see what kind of things it was capable of.

As for the knitting peripheral, I think it'd be cool to have for the lolz. If you need a scarf and aren't willing to go buy a new one, have your NES make you one.

I do wonder how the kitting thinger communicated with the NES. Maybe through the expansion port on the bottom? 'Course I was under the impression that it wasn't even fully wired up. >_>

Interesting.

Interesting.
Could be the way it's hooked up. At first, I thought it might be the second controller port.

Now you're knitting with power is probably the greatest slogan ever

Agreed. Now if they kept with that kind of slogan to this day, Nintendo would be way cooler.

I would totally have that machine to make my Nintendo cosplays with, sweetie.

Seriously though, "Now you're knitting with power" needs to be Nintendo's current slogan.
