The rules say you can only trade one egg in the beginning if you can't get your first pokemon early enough. For poison, the first one available is Venipede, after you get the second badge. IMO, you should be fine with trading an egg in, but generally, the pokemon you use must be one you can find in the game, and only one. The idea is to use the Pokemon in the game as your team, so as to make it a challenge.

There was a team change while I was playing!
-got treeko named privet, lot ad named reed and shroomish named mush
- mush actually soloed Roxanne with no training between the woods and the gym.
- did stuff with team aqua, beat brawly and delivered a letter, privet & reed evolved
- went to slateport, dealt with team aqua again, caught oddish called Beetroot
- did lots of grinding for may, and Watson, evolved mush, so Watson was easy
- got to fallarbour, Beetroot evolved, taught privet dig and used that to beat Flannery after beating up team aqua... Again
- did more grinding for Norman, love the speed up button on emulators, caught cacnea called cacti
- finished grinding and beat Norman
- caught Tropius named banana
- saved at the weather institute.

Second time I've had to type this today... My social life took a hard hit this weekend when I got so into my challenge that I rarely left my bedroom and as a result, have now finished the challenge! I spent a couple of hours today grinding with the blessing of the speed up button and by the time I began to fight the elite four, everyone on the team was lv 58 (because the thought of fighting Steven with grass types scared me) but in the end, it was actually extremely easy, and I felt that Steven had let me down! I started with Ludicolo, he used rain dance and surf to knock out each member of his team with ease and an ice beam to put down the cradily. Overall an extremely easy, bad match up champion for me.

-Named myself Keith and rival Javen
-Grabbed a potion from my PC.
-Attempted to leave the town for some fun, however was stopped by Professor Oak, which offered me a Pokemon.
-Got Squirtle and named him Soaked
-Javen got a Bulbasaur and challenged me to a battle.
-Won him easily.
-Went to the grass for the first time of my life.
-Kind Lady gave me a potion, appreciated it.
-Continued my adventure to the next town after training Soaked to level 7 where he learned Bubble.
-Went to heal up Bubbles at the Pokemon Centre and headed to the PokeMart as I thought I wanted some potions for the next rival battle.
-However, the woman at the counter refused to sell me anything until I had sent the Professor Oak's Parcel.
-Groaning, I went to deliver the parcel, surprisingly not encountering any pokemon in the grass :D
-Oak gave me and Javen each a Pokedex, wanting us to fill the pokedex for him .
-Went to Javen's house, got a town map from Daisy.
-Grabbed 6 potions and 3 antidotes from the Pokemart
-After stocking up, I realised it was time to challenge the Pokemon League and become the Champion.
-On the way, Javen told me we could not challenge the Pokemon league without the official 8 badges and challenged me to a battle!
-Lost because of a CRITICAL HIT -.-
-Went to challenge him again.
-Won him easily and Soaked got to level 11 too.
-Weird old man gave me a TV after he taught me how to catch a pokemon, meh he was pretty bad, just pure luck he got that weedle .
-Headed North to the Viridian forest

and Cynthia was Just balls hard

but yeah Cyrus was Very hard Mainly that HONCHKROW but it eventually died to bronzong

Weavile was Cake for medicham
Gyarados had an encounter with +2 Psychic
Houndoom was Bronzong bait
and finally crobat just died

Volkner was a clean Gard Sweep

Aaron was Tough but my Psychics pulled through
Bertha was less so but still a force to be reckoned with
Flint was Fairly easy
and Lucian's First poke was easy set up bait so +6 SpATK later and Gardevoir OHKOd Everything

Cynthia killed me about oh i dont know SIX TIMES but after some (read: a LOT) of grinding she was Easy enough

mainly that Garchomp (the one time i regtet getting Heatproof Bronzong) but Eventually it died to Said Bronzong along with spiritomb
then +4 Later and Gardevoir swept the rest

Platinum Done i MIGHT do Black/White some time if i feel like it i want to get/complete B/W2 first though

Sorry I haven't posted in a long time, I just have been very busy Anyway I have a new update on my progress in my steel challenge. I have also decided that I will allow myself to get an onix but not allow myself to evolve it until after I find the metal coat (which I can find after I beat the elite four once as in fire red you have additional story after the elite four and they are rematchable with increased levels and new pokemon so for me to finish fire red I have to beat them a second time.

What I do is what most people do. I think everyone is supposed to make a new post when they update if they're not the last poster. If you keep just updating your original post, nobody will see your progress. That's the point of these challenge threads(I think), is for people to do challenges and post their progress so everyone can see.

EDIT:
I started Platinum, I started with Turtwig, I solo'd with Turtwig until I got some Honey in Floaroma Meadow before the fight with Mars, and caught my four first members, Combee(female), and three Burmys(all female).
I evolved the three Burmys to where they evolve into the different forms, and evolved Combee too. I beat Mars and trained while on my way to Eterna City, I beat Gardenia, then saved after healing.
