Setting
Welcome to the story of the Arcana Famiglia. In this role-play you play a member of the Arcana Famiglia, a proud family of gifted individuals, each of whom have made a contract with a certain Arcana card. The Arcana cards are items of huge power which will lend their strength to a human upon forming a contract with them and swearing their loyalty. Each card has different effects, some of which are more powerful than others, and each card presents itself as an Arcana mark tattoo somewhere on the host's body. Arcana cards work using the host's emotions as power, so in order to master the power of an Arcana card, the host must have full control over their emotions or the powers won't work as hoped. Only those proven to have a deep connection to their emotions and the power and dedication to sustain a contract are selected to host an Arcana card and are invited to become part of The Familigia; not all members are related by blood but there is a well established connection between certain bloodlines and their affinity to hosting the Arcana cards so many family members share the same ancestors. Having a contract with an Arcana card also lends the user powers when their emotions are high such as increased strength, vitality, speed, or even in some cases the ability to conjure and control balls of pure energy. Losing control of emotions whilst using Arcana powers can be fatal; therefore only the best are selected to join The Famiglia. There are a grand total of 22 major Arcana cards, all of which are governed and controlled by card #21, The World.

The Famiglia, led by their ‘Papa’, uses these powers to help their sunny trading island of Regalo survive any threats that become it and act as the island's government by ruling it in sectors. Set 30 years after the death of Mondo, the family's most beloved Papa to date, the island has become a bustling hub of peace and activity abound with docks and markets as far as the eye can see. Such a busy place obviously attracts a lot of crime but this is easily dealt with by Sword, the family’s defence and policing division, leaving the criminals unlikely to re-offend whilst Sword remain vigilant. Coin, the family’s economic sector, has run the economy well since the retirement of their previous leader Debito and as a result form a staple part of the island's structure whilst working alongside the other sectors of the house to ensure the community thrives. There is a large mansion with impressive steel gates and countless looming statues atop a steep hill in which the Arcana Famiglia resides, overlooking the serene sea-side town below with pale yellow buildings and canvas roofs abound. The city is often full of market stalls and boats coming to the island for trading, providing a warm and friendly atmosphere all year round. Almost every point on the island overlooks the vast blue ocean surrounding them, making it the perfect place for a little R&R.

30 years ago Mondo, the holder of The World card, passed away leaving his title and Arcana contract to Nova, his son-in-law. The holder of The World card is responsible for maintaining the power, contracts and stability of all other Arcana cards and is given the title of 'Papa', making them the head of the family. Cards being left without contracts or cards forming unstable contracts with their holder take more energy from The World to sustain, resulting in the host's life force being drained and leading to a premature death if contracts are not established for the remaining cards. Felicita, Nova’s wife and the ‘Mama’ of the family, has a contract with two cards one of which is The Wheel of Fortune which she regularly uses to ease the burden that Nova carries, but as the life force continues to drain from him time is running out and The World needs a new host.

Plot

In his early childhood, Nova was abused constantly by his father and his powers were exploited by his family as a chance of getting rich; this became too much for Nova to bear and so his Arcana powers went out of control. His contract at the time was with card #13, Death, giving him the power to put people to sleep instantly, resulting in him cursing both of his parents with a never-ending sleep. After Mondo’s passing and Nova gaining the powers of The World card, he used it to break his contract with Death and in turn broke the curse on his parents; however only his father Moreno awoke from the eternal slumber leaving his mother deceased. This caused Moreno unimaginable suffering knowing what his son had done to him and his wife and thus he swore revenge to show Nova just how it feels to be turned on by your own family. He pretended to be grateful for Nova saving him from the sleep and worked his way into the family to the point where he was able to make a contract with card #15, The Devil, giving him the power to control the emotionally weak to act at his whim. After having received this contract, Moreno disappeared from the family for 2 years with no trace leaving a huge strain on The World and therefore Nova as a conflict arose within the emotion of the Arcana cards.

After 2 years had passed Nova became too weak from the strain of The World to continue ruling the family and so passed on his responsibilities to his childhood companion Liberta, the family’s executive head and second in command, whilst he focussed his energies on maintaining the stability of The World. Moreno heard of this news and took it as an opportunity to use the powers that he had been training since obtaining his Arcana contract and so contacted the Famiglia with threats of war. These threats were accepted by the family as they needed The Devil card back in their possession before the strain became too much for Nova to survive with and they assumed that one old man couldn't be any kind of a threat to them. However, when Moreno arrived at the Famiglia’s house, he brought with him an army of warriors prepared to fight on his behalf, resulting in large bloodshed on both sides as the war raged on and powers grew stronger. A man named Luca, the family’s adviser, finally managed to work out where Moreno’s army was coming from as he had made a contract with The Devil, allowing him to control emotionally-weak people as his slaves and thus creating a huge army of those that had not learnt to deal with their emotions. They made for angry and vicious fighters as their rage and sadness was exploited by Moreno but just as all seemed hopeless for the family, Nova concocted a plan to stop the army’s assault. He gathered the family together to find someone worthy of contracting with one of the most powerful Arcana of all; #1 The Magician, and eventually Luca was found to be the suitable host. He then used this power to amplify his previous Arcana, #14 Temperance, and use it to severely cripple Moreno’s powers and therefore release most of his army from his control. A few fighters still remain which Moreno sends in waves to attack the Famiglia, but whilst Luca remains strong the army stays small.

Due to the huge strain caused by these events, Nova grows ever weaker and is in desperate need of a new contract to be formed with The World before it becomes too much to handle and he dies. However, such an important and powerful card cannot be given to simply anyone, so it’s now up to you to see who gets the card and the title of ‘Papa’. A tournament called the Arcana Duello will soon be organised to take place late in the year in which everyone with an Arcana contract will participate to test their powers and see who’s strongest, and the winner will be granted one wish from Nova whilst becoming the new ‘Papa’ of the family. However Luca has been growing tired from the years of suppressing Moreno causing his powers to weaken by the day, so it’s only a matter of time before Moreno will get his chance to strike again.

Notable NPCs
  • Nova – ‘Papa’ (#21; The World); the head of the Arcana Famiglia and the reason behind Moreno’s plans; slowly dying from the effects of The World and needs to find a new ‘papa’ to take his place.

Rules
  • Each card can only be contracted by one player and each player can only choose to contract one card.
  • Arcana card contracts provide a primary effect (listed below) and a secondary effect; the secondary effect provides power, agility, stamina, and in some cases elemental effects such as conjuring energy balls (include in SU if relevant to your character).
  • Two players will be dealt a secondary Arcana card each but will not be told about them until relevant to the story.
  • If you wish to leave the roleplay, please ensure your character dies so that someone else may create a character to form a contract with that card.
  • There can only be one leader of each sector; if two or more apply to be leader of the same sector the decision will be based on each player's RP sample.
  • When fighting, players cannot control each other's actions but are able to control NPC actions, other than against enemies which are specified otherwise.
  • Players may create NPCs to speak to and interact with, but none may be part of the famiglia (AKA no Arcana cards can be used up by NPCs that are created by players).
  • At first, a maximum of 12 players will be accepted leaving 3 spare Arcana cards.
  • Players may apply to enter the RP at any time, but may be asked to wait till a certain event before joining.

Awesome RP May I reserve a spot? It's kind of late here, but I can start my SU right away
Whoop-da-whoop! Done *w*
Spoiler:
General
Name: Alexander Grant (Alex)
Age: 17
Appearance:
Alex stands at a height of 5'11" and looks like he isn't really built for combat. His body was not muscular, nor did it show any sign of physical exercise. He has blue eyes and dark navy-blue hair that he rarely styles. He just messes it around and lets it fall where it wants to. His lips are pale and his nose is not too narrow yet not too flat. Even though he's half-Japanese, he's Caucasian side still stands out.

He usually dons a dark blue vest with swirls of gold designs embroidered on the lower part under a white long sleeve polo. He carries around his sword in his sheath, which hangs by his side almost all the time. He wears a ring on his left ring finger. This ring is a family heirloom that has been passed through generations. It was gold and held a sapphire with the family emblem engraved on it, a silver silhouette of a dragon.

His Arcana mark is located below his neck, on the upper right corner of his chest. It is simply in the form of a crown. Sometimes, Alex complains about how simple it is. He hides it so that it doesn't mess with his strategy in battles. If some guy, he thought, who doesn't know what Arcana card he was contracted with decides to challenge him to a fight, he could use it to his advantage and make him forget that he challenged him. But he hasn't really learned how to control that. Just a thought.

Personality:
Alexander is a proud young man. Having come from a rich family, he has always carried the Grant name with honor. Despite that, he still had the heart to help other people, he just doesn't want to admit it. Charity, in his words, is not his thing. He is rather competitive and would likely do anything to secure victory. He can be serious, but most of the time he chooses not to. He tends to pent up his emotions inside, but is able to handle them very well. Still being a teenager and all, he still has a lot to learn about controlling his emotion.

Tactics. Alex believes that battles could be won even before they are fought, and he proves this with his great strategical skills. He is able to anticipate the moves of his opponent (though to a much lesser extent when compared to the wielder of The Star) by observing their personality, how they move and how they act towards another person. He's read many books on Psychology. He wants to be able to read one person by just a glance, like those great detectives.

Arcana
Arcana Card: #4: The Emperor
Secondary Effects:
The Emperor allows him to manipulate other people's memories, and he can use this ability for diplomacy. He can make enemies forget that they're enemies, though this takes a lot of concentration from him, and it never works on people that hate him with a passion. He can manipulate some people into thinking that they work for him. His voice resonates with power, and for weak-willed ordinary people, this is hard to resist. He also has above average endurance, enabling him to battle for hours and not get too tired.

Ability to control powers:
He doesn't have much control of his Arcana yet. He has just started training and is still getting the hang of things. Since he can't control his emotions that much yet, The Emperor usually manifests itself only by accident. His eyes glow and he gets a glimpse of a person's memories, kind of like ending up in an office filled with filing cabinets. He can't control which memory he hides yet. He just goes with the flow. Though sometimes, he can make people believe stuff that he says, though they are not necessarily true. But this happens very rarely.

Section of the house & postion: Apprentice of Intelligence
History on the island:
The Grant family is famous around their town in Rome. They're treated like royalty around there, which was how Alexander developed his big head. His grandfather was the wielder of The Emperor contract. He has heard of tales of how his grandfather could remove memories and manipulate them using the power of his Arcana. These made him want to achieve these powers as well, so he asked for permission to go to the island of Regalo. Once he was allowed, he set off to locating his grandfather. It took him a while, but after a few hours of walking around the island, he saw a large mansion behind two tall gates. Coincidentally, his grandfather was just about to go outside of the gates. He ran to him and introduced himself, saying that he was a Grant, his grandson, and that he wanted to become like him. The old man greeted him with teary eyes and a warm smile. He hugged him and agreed to train him.

He was 15 by that time, still too young to join the Famiglia, therefore his grandfather trained him in the arts of swordsmanship. After a rigorous practice with the sword, his next exercise was to meditate. He hated this a lot as he was an impatient boy. But his grandfather assured him that that is important if he wished to gain the abilities that his grandfather possessed. This went on for another year. Alex has gotten better with the sword, learning different techniques and being able to combine moves himself. He has also improved his patience, being able to meditate without complaint. This was also the year that his grandfather started showing signs of a grave illness, though he always denied it. Before the year ended, his grandfather's illness got worse, paralyzing him and leaving him bedridden. During these days, Alex trained himself to take his mind off of his dying grandfather.

During his 17th birthday, no celebrations were held. He stayed beside his grandfather the whole day, praying for him to recover. Suddenly, his grandfather held Alex's hand softly and bade him to come closer. He told him that he knew that this day would come. He knew that he was going to die soon. He has known for 3 years. He told him of how happy he was when Alex arrived and told him that he wanted to be like him. He told him that he wanted Alex to become the next holder of his Arcana, The Emperor. After saying those words, his heart stopped beating, and he finally passed away. Alex was supposed to bawl his eyes out by crying. He was supposed to stay by his grandfather's side and tell him to wake up. Instead, he went to Nova and talked to him about getting a contract with The Emperor, with which the 'Papa' agreed to, since he was able to witness the development of Alex. After getting the contract, Alex never spoke of his grandfather again. He always wondered if he could use the Arcana to erase his own memory, but he never dared to try.

Question, do 4 and 18 negate each other? Can the moon look at the memories removed from someone with card 4?

Card number 4 allows memories to be locked away in the person's mind or be slightly altered to change a few details within the memory, whereas card number 18 allows the holder to 'enter' the person's mind and physically look through their memories. As for memories locked by card number 4, card number 18 would be able to unlock them if a certain amount of emotional strength is supplied and depending on how long they've been locked away/how strong the memory is. Essentially they'd be freeing the memory from the chains that are holding it down which requires a lot of power if the chains are strong. Then once the chains are broken, the memory will return in the person's mind and The Moon card will be able to look at it in the same way as usual. Hope that makes sense :)

How did I miss this?!

This looks and sounds amazing. Is The Hanged Man considered to be one of the "powerful" cards? Because it certainly allows for a lot of survival, but isn't very effective in retaliation to combat.

Really it's up to you how you choose to take the power (as in whether they become intangible as a result of bordering on death or if it's just in response to any desperate situations such a rock falling from a cliff or whatever [likely on an island, right? xD]), so if you were to make it so the power only occurs when the character is about to die then you'd be able to have more secondary powers than if it occurred in response to any dangerous situation. It also depends on how long you choose for the intangibility to last, to what extent it has an effect (so if their whole body becomes intangible or if it's just the effected area and they're left vulnerable at other areas), whether they have to be aware of the danger or not to activate it (eg getting stabbed in the back may not activate it), etc. It's one of the more customisable cards in the sense that you have pretty much full control over how this one works, so really it's up to you how powerful you want to make it, just include how the power works as the "How the powers have manifested so far" section of the history and make sure the secondary skills keep it balanced. In general though, it's a card which allows for average secondary skills since survival is a great benefit, but it doesn't give much help in combat other than that. :3

Here is my SU, I rotated like 4 different cards lol
General
Name: Annabelle Belizaire (Anna)
Age: 18
Appearance: Anna is half black and half white (caramel skin) with dark hair that extends past her shoulders. She tends to wear street clothes that have been tattered and worn out, though she this is because of her pass time activities and not lack of money. Her hair is not nicely brushed by the end of the day, though if you catch her in the morning it would be very surprising for you to recognize her. (Excluding the fact that her mark is on the side of her neck below her ear, easily visible). She carries around a bag that has books, pencils, and empty journals, a rope, and occasionally there would be some candy or other treats (likely stolen, unless it is a pastry). A medium sized golden labrador retriever follows her around the city but is incapable of aggression.
Personality: Anna loves her dog, math, writing, and harmless chaos. She spends most of her time in the economic sector and recording what random people buy. When asked why, she will simply shrug and say, "Because I can." Though harmless there are people who know of her hobby and pay her for certain information regarding it (Wives asking what husbands are buying and vice versa, along with parents asking what their children are buying). Not only does she agree, but she will also record that transaction in case it is needed. Her master do not approve of this information trading and often scolds her.

To classify Anna as a rebel wouldn't be very incorrect. She doesn't do things to go against authority, as a matter of fact she respects the Swords and is an admirer of the family. It would be more correct to categorize her as a free spirit, as she only does what she wants. Normally her activities are benign though she won't think twice about drawing on the wall of a building or stealing small items from stores if her thoughts are into it. She can be very resourceful as well, especially when it is avoiding trouble. She seems to be a target for trouble, because every few days she will get in a fight with some delinquents or run away from angry shopkeepers. As a result she has decent fighting skills, enough to one on one another person and not get OHKOed that is. She has above average athletic skills for her age, and does her best to exercise when she isn't studying or causing trouble.

Anna is not anti-social, easily able to speak to others and even large groups, she just prefers not to listen to people or have any obligations to spend time with people when she doesn't want to. People who have met her claim that she acts much like an innocent ten year old with the mind of veteran mathematician, and indeed she is very immature (though this is a conscious decision on her end and she doesn't really think she is that good at math). She tends to do and say things on a whim without very little thought and she can't ever recall feeling angry or enraged before.

Arcana
Arcana Card: The Moon
Secondary Effectshe has increased flexibility, agility and endurance along with an increase in her intelligence. Her reaction time is also significantly higher than before. Her fighting skill would be the ability to create a small, weak energy field around her skin (capable of protecting from a fall, punch, knife stab or one arrow, but not very effective against a card holder with super strength, or a normal person with a sword or blunt weapon). She doesn't have an increase in strength, overall knowledge of fighting, or hand-eye-coordination.
Ability to control powers: Her use of the power is limited, it takes much time for her to find memories as each mind is different. It could take an our to simply find a name that was forgotten, thus she usually practices on volunteers who go on break and wish to remember something pleasant. Occasionally if she looks someone in the eye, there is a chance she could see his or her past, though this rarely happens and usually gives a name or event that she wouldn't have knowledge to use anyways.
Section of the house & position: Apprentice of the coin
History on the island: Anna was raised by a banker who taught her all of the ins and outs of managing, counting, and recording money and transactions. As long as she did the day's required work, her master would allow her to do whatever she wanted for the day with very little control. Often she would finish the day's work as quick and efficient as she could, making her master very proud, he often boasted about having a "prodigy apprentice". One day on a whim she broke into the Familigia's mansion on a whim, wishing to see what it looked like. At the time she was seventeen so when one of the guards saw her, they assumed she was a malicious person. When the guard went to apprehend her, she used her wit and athletics to outmatch him. After defeating him she explained what she was doing in the castle, apologized for breaking in and explored the house (with him tied up). Since it was night time, there wasn't too much activity but she did run into an occasional cook or servant who paid her no mind. After a good look, she decided she wanted to be a part of the house (only hearing rumors of the cards) and set out to find the head of the house. She stole a maid's uniform and looked around.

Eventually she bumped into Luca, who she mistook for the head of the house. She promptly asked for a position in a humble manner. Luca took her to see the "Papa". Though when she met him she couldn't quiet figure out what was wrong with him, so out of fear of insulting him she did not speak. Luca pulled her out, "What is the matter young lady? Does he really scare you so?" He said ever so kindly.

"Sir I did not say anything because what I would have said would surely have insulted him." Luca had laughed at the comment which made her confusedly ask, "No disrespect but what is so funny?"

"Well you beat up and tied one of our guards, broke into our house, and" He looked her up and down, "Stole a maid's uniform, and you were afraid of talking because you would insult him?" He laughed again, "Normally thieves do not act so polite."

"Sir, I am not thief I swear on my money, I wished to see what people lived in this manner one day, so I bought a rope and came in. As for the guard, he threatened to kick me out, so I tied him up. I was not going to keep this uniform either, seeing as it is much to soft and I would ruin it on my climb out the window."

"What of the front door?" He asked, "Would it have occurred to you that we may have allowed you a small tour?"

She thought for a moment, "It didn't neccisarily come up, though even if it had I wouldn't have done it. It would have been boring to follow a servant, this is much more exhilarating." She swung her arms and turned side to side, "I think you would do the same too because all people want to adventure, some are just afraid to do it."

"I can't say I'd want to break into my own house my dear, but I admire your honesty. What is your name?"

"Annabelle Belizaire, but only call me Anna, not Bell or Ann, but Anna. I live in the trade district with my master who is a banker." Anna held her hand out to shake his, "I do not wish to shake your hand, though this is the respectful gesture I was taught."

He laughed again and grabbed her hand, "Well thank you for the respect! Why don't you go in and talk to Nova now? I promise you that if you show this kind of politeness and honesty he will surely forgive you for breaking into his house, he may even invite you to the family."

"Very well, but you must stay out here, I do not wish for a crowd." She entered the room, though she didn't close the door, "Sir Nova, can I ask for your attention?"

"Why so formal" He had asked, "I believed you did not wish to talk to me."

"Well I was afraid of insulting you by bringing up your frailty, though I guess eithe way I am in trouble" She bowed her head, "Even though you are weak right now, you still demand great respect for surely one who owns a magnificent house as this is a respectful person!"

"Well as polite as that is, do you really not know who I am? What this house houses?"

"I heard it was a family of heroes, with great power and intelligence. Though I believe that to be rumor, for surely a family with great power would care less for this island. To be honest I think I care for this island more than any power or person out there." She really did love the island, though was not familiar with the history.

"What would you do with power? Would you use that love for the island to fuel your power and keep it safe?"

"That is a silly question sir, I wouldn't need power to feed off my love for this island."

"Do you have good memories of this place?"

"Yes sir, I have never felt anger toward the people, I love it here."

"Hold out your hand dear." He bestowed upon her the moon card, "You will be able to weed out the good memories of our residence."

As time went on, they eventually allowed her to stay in the house, though she still found using the front door to be incredibly lame, and just climbed through her bedroom window. She still spent most of her days in the city and helping her master, though now she would play through the houses corridors, city streets, and back allys. Her powers were time consuming, and she only perfected using her energy for defense reasons, making small energy fields. Her increased physical ability allowed her to learn various fighting styles and her increased intelligence allowed her to quickly solve math and strategical problems, making her known as the child fox due to her childlike hobbies and cunning nature.

She still loves the island with all of her heart, along with er dog, and her freedom. Though she feels that bad times are coming.

Aaand here it is.

Spoiler:
General
Name: Oda Baldotter

Age: 30.

Appearance: Oda is a woman of 5'8, with lanky limbs and lean muscles hidden beneath her clothes to maintain the illusion of being a waif. As is traditional of her heritage, her face is slender with high cheekbones upon pale skin, with a narrow-yet-elegant nose. Her lips are thin and often left without make-up, while her hair hangs in a long brunette braid, giving her a simple appearance to match cool blue eyes that shimmer with wisdom older than her face.

She prefers to wear long, flowing clothes that cover up her form; for both elegance and the aura of command that such clothes imply. This is normally characterized by a military coat that hangs over her shoulders like a shroud, with a buttoned white shirt beneath and a long-sleeved black top beneath that. Her legs are covered by a pair of slim jeans that end with a pair of simple black shoes with a strong grip. The only weapon Oda carries casually is a short-sword attached to a strong belt, along with pouches of various general survival gear.

Oda's arcana mark is emblazoned across her back, in simple black with the Hanged Man's silhouette. However, it changes with each inch of power she gains; slowly shifting from a genderless silhouette to a reflection of Oda herself.

Personality: Oda is a firm but gentle woman, borne from her time spent being trained by talented warriors. Despite the apparent kindness of her smile to any who might approach for aid, she treats most situations as though they are a puzzle waiting to be solved; on the lookout for clues that might aid or suspicious items to be investigated. Any time she's able to, Oda will prioritize the young and the weak to keep them away from danger, but her time spent killing in defense of Regalo has given her the coldness of heart to judge when something can be more valuable than the immediate loss of lives.

Because of the seriousness with which she approaches all things, Oda has few friends amongst those in the Sword Sector, but has their respect; save for when she's studying instead of working or training. To anyone in the other sectors, she appears as an atypical officer with a slightly softer touch for civilians and a no-nonsense approach to politics; she is not often chosen for talks with the other sectors unless there's an immediate security concern.

In her spare time, Oda plays the piano in many of its incarnations, to portray the melancholy of her personal situation to the world. She frequently requests meetings with Luca, to help her in the study of The Hanged Man tarot and to quell the unease The Hanged Man has brought her each step of the way; with the state of the family, Luca is often unavailable, so Oda spends the time going for walks across the island with only her thoughts and arcana mark to keep her company.

Arcana
Arcana Card: #12: The Hanged Man

Secondary Effects: Since gaining control of her powers, Oda has ceased aging; while this has so far given her five extra years of youth, her body has ceased going through cycles; rendering her barren. In a crue balance, she can give no more life to the world, but is unable to enter death. Over the years, her body and mind have entered a complete stasis that stops anything from interacting directly with her mental state. Although she possesses no superhuman strength or agility, like other members of the Famiglia, this Adept of Swords has complete control over her own form, save for the card that gave her these abilities in the first place.

Ability to control powers: Having had thirteen years to learn her Arcana, Oda is quite skilled at controlling it; but she did not choose The Hanged Man so much as it chose her. With each aspect she learned, another was forced on her. At first, her intangibility came only through sheer force of will, but she eventually taught it to react by itself; any danger to come to her form would simply make Oda turn intangible.

While this was excellent at first, the revelation of her unchanging form revealed the hidden horror. Were she to love, they would pass on eventually and leave her with a broken heart. She could not raise her own child to pass the Arcana onto, leaving her stranded with its presence. So, while she has much control over The Hanged Man, Oda fears what may come with the years.

Section of the house & postion: The Adept of Swords

History on the island: Oda was born in her native Sweden, to the family that had long not produced a member of the Arcana Famiglia, but whose first child had borne the arcana mark of The Hanged Man. Oda was born after the death of her father's older sister, while her uncle then possessed the arcana mark of The Hanged Man and left for the island of Regalo. Since her father suspected he would have to move to Regalo next, and would die eventually, he began to train Oda in the art of fencing and general fitness.

Oda took to it quite well, and was quite the swordswoman by her thirteenth birthday, but her Uncle died before he could visit, leaving Oda's father as the next bearer of The Hanged Man. They moved to Regalo island, where Oda could train properly with the House of Swords and worry in her free time about the fate of the last of her grandparent's three children; her own father. On her seventeenth birthday, her father died, and she was left as the sole remaining member of the family, and a talented recruit of the House of Swords.

Over the next years, with the discoveries of her powers, Oda began a fixture of the family, yet was refused access to a commanding position, thanks to the lack of stability of the last three holders of the card. However, years continued to pass and she showed herself to be far more potent than any of her other family members, and she was allowed the title of Adept, giving her support in the form of a very talented soldier and the freedom to act on the Sword Sector's wishes as she saw fit. While she took this title with gusto, her concerns about The Hanged Man continue to loom...

@CourageHound - Is your SU finished? Unfortunately transforming into animals isn't really suitable as a secondary power - that's more something that an Arcana card would have to give since it's a very distinguished ability. Also the history needs a bit more detail/information/general bulk and the ability to control powers section needs changing too since the card you've selected has nothing to do with the powers you're talking about - same with the history. Also a last name and a position within the Sword sector that you selected need adding :)

@Khawill - Love the SU! Only thing I would ask is for slightly more detail in the history - you never really explained why she thought about joining the family, why Luca accepted her, what she was actually doing in the mansion, what made Nova agree to contract her, how she reacted to her abilities, her life within the family so far... Adding another paragraph and editing the previous one would most likely be enough to cover all of this and it'll be accepted :)

@Lilizuki - Amazing SU, I especially love what you did with the arcana mark on her back and the whole verging on immortality concept you've introduced is really fitting for The Hanged Man. Accepted! I'm curious, are you planning for her immortality to dwindle as she progresses through the story/gains more control or is this something that's set in stone for her? Or are we going to find out as the story pans out? At any rate, can't wait to see her in action!

@CarefulWetPaint - I'm happy to reserve you a spot but cards are a first-come-first-serve basis, sorry!

\o/ Thanks very much! Glad to be a part of this thang.

I think we'll see over the course of the story. Will it be okay to PM you about developing the hooks in her personal arc, once things get rolling?

General
Name: Tobi Lomborte
Age: 18
Appearance: Tall about 5ft 11in
Dark-skinned with short, straight black hair, the front strands of his hair falling just bellow the rim of the forehead and all the other sides about the same length with the exception of the back falling a tiny bit. Vibrant violet eyes Usually wearing long cargo jeans, (any)solid-dark top with an image of a wolf. He wields a sword personally handcrafted at the request of his father that fostered him upon entering the famiglia and is a memento of their nice treatment of him after taking him in from the orphanage.
Spoiler:

Glancing at Tobi when hes in a neutral mood you'd see a plain facial expression lacking significant emotion and not very inviting. When enjoying himself, say; off on casual walks you would find a small grin on his face showing hes happy or content. Hands fitted with black leather, finger less gloves, and grey jacket. His arcane mark looks like a jagged dark sphere, containing star like figures with tiny wavy triangles making their way around the perimeter, encompassing his left shoulder. Half of the sphere is slightly faded as opposed to the other pith black side.
Personality: Usually reserved and quiet you wont often see him in any big conversation. Passing by, you might seem to find him serious. However Tobi is prone to variable mood shifts, depending on how hes feeling. You might see him happy, laughing and smiling one moment and see his trademark serious face some time later.
However despite that he is very intelligent, adores nature, helpful to everyone around, and tries to do his best to be friendly. However he doesnt like discussing his abilities of the Aracana outside the family much. He doesn't tolerate bullies or people with evil intentions.

Arcana
Arcana Card: #19 The Sun
Secondary Effects: Upon attaining his power and ability to influence a person's good nature grants him a source of vibrant energy. This energy could be used in various ways such as speed, strength endurance, or even to conjure light, heat, or pressure from his palms if given enough energy. He uses his acquired energy in varies ways such as reinforcing his armor and weapons or giving him the edge over ill minded foes in battle by momentarily distracting them with gracious thoughts. He can spare a fraction of the energy he attains to another if he wishes.

Ability to control powers: Being able to control his powers was very tricky for Tobi being as young as he is. He usually succeeds to wield his powers in a stable environment to being able to concentrate and is usually unsuccessful at performing in hectic environments. However he discovered that his own power is the very answer to that. By reaching into people and realizing the good in the, he uses that serene energy to put himself at ease, even in the thick of battle. That also means he can tell if someone was truly pure evil. However only having several years in practice in his Arcana he could often feel overwhelmed by the energy or have an unintentional effect on people while passing by.

Section of the house & postion: The Sword- The faction of which guards the harbor and ports. Once joining the family, Tobi was at loss at when offered a section of the family to reside in due to his past and restriction of properly expressing himself. As such it was suggested by Nova to place him under the sword to complement his abilities' potential in combat. Tobi accepted mostly due to the scenery of the harbor and ports he is assigned to protect.
History on the island: Being an orphan housed under a village orphanage he had a rough childhood. Often mistreated and taken advantage by other children of despite his many talents Tobi grew up in his younger years being quite shy around others albeit seeking and longing to acquaint himself with another. This led to his habit of isolation and had him focus on this such as art, literacy and fencing. Such talents and distinguishing features he displayed only ostracized him further from the children and other commoners around him, claiming him "different".

As he grew into his early teens he accidentally ran into Falicita while on a daily errand for his foster parents. Spilling the contents of her bag as they bump into each other Tobi insists on assisting on aiding her and bringing her items back to the manor. Upon arrival Nova and the other residence of the manor were interested in such an intriguing boy who would go out of his way to help a strange lady. Over time through secretive test and examinations of character and aptitude through requests and even inviting Tobi to certain family affairs he was given an invitation into the manor. At first flabbergasted, he whole heatedly accepts his invitation. Tobi was then sent into the sword section of the manor while retaining the name of his foster parents.

Ever since gaining his powers he contains to make personal strides to meet the standards of the manor. Often feeling himself sluggish and slightly clumsy with his powers, Tobi retains a minor, yet reserved, inferiority complex with the more adept members of the family. The other members of the family vaguely recognize this and mostly acknowledge his efforts, albeit lightly stressing from time to time he tries to hard and to slow down a bit. Tobi however is on good terms with everyone and has made a few bonds, mostly due to his abilities and being able to see and understand the good qualities in the others. However his general character and lack of extensive prior social skills due to his upbringing cause him to be slightly obscure about himself with the others and unintentionally distancing himself slightly. Although being slightly distant from the others in the family his powers grant him incite on the true feelings and character of all he meets.

I hope thats better.
It's better, but still a couple of changes need to be made if that's okay! The appearance section is lacking quite a bit of detail; it'd be great if you could add to it a bit - talk about things like his build, his facial expressions, his eyes, his arcana symbol, that kind of thing, also if possible add a little more detail to the things you've already described (for example what style of short black hair does he have? Messy? Straight? Parted? etc). And the other thing that needs a little more added to it is the character's history - you haven't said anything about his time on the island since gaining his powers or since joining the house other than that he's distant to the rest of the family (which also isn't explained); that's an important part of their history so if possible an extra paragraph about that would be great. Also you didn't say why he joined the Sword division of the family, so a sentence explaining that would be useful too. Otherwise the character is looking great and I especially love what you've chosen for his secondary powers, it fits incredibly well with The Sun card and I can see a lot of interesting stories arising from it. Also the way he was invited to the family is rather intriguing, he's seeming like a very quirky character haha. As a small note, most people tend to edit their original sign-up post rather than posting a new one each time so you might want to just edit the one you've posted most recently when making these changes and post asking to check it once you're finished with it :) Can't wait to read more about Tobi!

Also in case anyone's interested, I'll submit the IC thread once we have at least 8 characters confirmed as that will be enough to start the story. :)

Spoiler:

General
Name: Charisi "Ari" Terranci
Age: 23
Appearance: Ari makes it no secret that she has Arcana Powers thus keeps her Arcana Mark in plain sight for all to see. It spreads from her shoulder blade down her back but it appears to look different to all that see it or sometimes it doesn't seem to be there at all.

Recently her long, flowing, hair that used to lay beautiful upon her shoulder got a make over. The left side of her hair, (here), is shaven down while the rest is cut into a bob. Her hair barely brushes her shoulders thus making it easier to deal with. From the roots down to her ears her hair is as dark as night but passed that point it begins to fade into blonde. Ari applies her eyeliner a little heavier than most of the other ladies in the family but it really brings out her lavender eyes. A seemingly permanent smirk usually rests below her thin, elongated nose. While her lips are covered with a dark shade lipstick or being coated with glittery lip-gloss they still make quite the impression. Accessorizing is a woman's best friend and one thing Ari does quite often, whether it's bangles, bracelets, necklaces, or piercings she utilizes them all.

Eloquent yet dangerous is Ari preferred fashion style. Wearing spaghetti strapped dresses that reveals her cleavage giving the boys something to look at and even their now jealous girlfriends. The dress fits her in all the right places and doesn't go passed her knees. Needless to say Ari finds working out pointless but yet seems to keep fit with her arms having a bit more muscle then to be expected. Interesting floral design appear somewhere on the dress, the placement depending on the dress she's wearing. Typically there is some sort of fringe to go along with the dress to give her hands something to mess with so she doesn't talk with them. If Ari's really feeling daring her dress of choice would include a slit up the side making it even more provocative. She sports a pair of three-inch high heels to go with her outfit, which makes her height boost from 5'9" to a towering 6'. Even if she can easily protect her self from attack with her Arcana Power she keeps a knife strapped to her upper thigh with a colorful band.

Personality: Terror, fear, screams are the only things that drive Ari to live each day of her life in the most satisfying way. Her love for all things gruesome and sadistic frighten off most people. Everyone is an experiment to her, one worth testing on over and over again in the most unpleasant of ways. Ari thrives off of watching people suffer in the most unimaginable ways. Some call her twisted, some call her the daughter of Satan, some call her Charisi, and she hates all of these people. The funniest part of her day is walking around the House casting out illusions and watching the help scamper off in all directions. Her sense of humor is rather dark as she uses her illusions to taunt and break those that come across her path.

Despite the fact that she seems to be a loner Ari desperately hates being alone. Even though most of the Family avoids her due to her scare tactics she stills finds an excuse to hang around them. Her words to them, mostly sarcastic, are cruel and come from a sharp tongue. She'd never let anyone in the family know that she actually cares about them and their safety but rather them think she doesn't care about any of them. If they were to find out that then they would never let her live it down and her reputation, which means everything to her, would be completely ruined. With this being said she will not hesitate to use extreme perhaps even torturous forces on someone in the family if push comes to shove. Ari doesn't want her caring to come forth as a sign of weakness because she feels as if she has none.

What Ari hates besides people in general is those who undermine her authority and those who underestimate her Arcana Powers. As Head of Intelligence she expects everyone to respect her without question and she will not tolerate those who disobey her. Her methods of discipline are brutal and frowned upon by anyone watching them being done. Having others talk down to her irritates her as well, which is when she tends to lash out the most. Once Ari is in a sour mood it doesn't just go away not without someone talking her down. Her foul mood can last for days or even develop into grudges upon the person who put her in said mood.

Arcana
Arcana Card: #3, The Empress
Secondary Effects: Being that her Arcana Powers allow her to create illusions it is only fitting to make herself become an illusion, in a way. She is able to project her consciousness/soul out of her body. In most cases it is to gather information that others don't want her knowing. Her projection is invisible unless others are around that possess strong mental powers are around that can sense/feel/see her. Most of the time she does this from the safety of her bedroom while hidden in a secret room. Ari is definitely her most vulnerable while she uses her Astral Projection making her physical body an easy target. During her stay in her Astral form she can confuse enemies by whispering into their ear persuading them to believe that her words are their thoughts. Ari is also able to interact with the physical world but not much, she can pick up light objects such as a knife or a rock.

Ability to Control Powers: Frequently as a teenager Ari lost control of her powers due to her emotions when she was first learning to control her Arcana Power. As a vow to her father Ari made sure to work through her problems and now has nearly infallible control over her power. She shows no remorse to those that she "accidentally" traps in her illusions. Due to the number of times this happens it seems like these aren’t really accidents at all. Everyone in the family knows not to get on her bad side as she practices honing her skills on those that do.

Section of the House & Postion: Head of Intelligence

History on the Island: Ari is said to be a native to Regalo being delivered as a natural birth in a secluded home in the forest. It is said that her mother and father neglected the Arcana Powers specifically The Empress, which is the card her mother had before dying due to childbirth complications. She herself isn't sure if these tales of her early years are the truth but the past is the past and can be shaped how she sees fit. Her father refusing to acknowledge that his daughter had any Arcana Powers did not make her aware that she had a contract with The Empress. As she's increasing in age so did her Father's overbearingness causing them to quarrel quite a bit.

It was a chore for her to fetch grocery all the way from town and make it back before sunset. One day she overloaded her bag causing it to block her frontal view. Consequently she runs smacked dab into Nova causing her grocery's to spill and her to trip. Unbeknownst to her Nova had seen her Arcana Mark and helped her to feet after she had gathered her supplies. She noticed him whispering something to a subordinate while she muttered her apologizes not knowing who this clearly important man was at the time. A suggestion was made to her that she should join the Arcana Famiglia when she was of age. Ari nodded her head and ran off home as she was racing against the sun setting.

Daydreaming was a regular thing for Ari where her imagination would come to life, literally. One time she was thinking of snakes slithering and swarming her father's room and the next second she hears him screaming and shouting. Immediately she snapped out of it and almost immediately his screaming stopped. She thoroughly questioned him about it later but her father wouldn't budge with the details. Ari had her suspicions when similar daydreaming incidents occurred and decided to thoroughly test her theory. When the time came her father wouldn't allow Ari to leave the house and she wondered why he was so vehemently against her joining the Arcana Familga. He kept insisting that she was nothing more than a little girl and needed to keep herself occupied within the house. That caused Ari to flip her lid and trap her father in the most terrible, grotesque illusion she could think of. Something inside her triggered and her attitude became darker and more sinister from that point on.

With her illusion going on she left the forest dwelling house and quickly joined the Arcana Familga without hesitation. She was a little too curious as to why her father didn't want her to be apart of a real family. It was quickly noticed that she was quite adept at getting information out of people by using her Arcana Power. She finally learned about herself from a member of the family and what the Arcana Mark on her back was all about. The House Sector she was quickly shoved into was Intelligence. Her wits and dark nature made her a pro with using her illusions as a torture technique to get information out of those who betrayed the family. With the passing of the former Head of Intelligence, despite her being younger than most of the other members, Ari was selected to be the Head. At some point Ari checked back on her father and saw that he still hadn't snapped out of the illusion she had put him under. It had broken him down and he seemed to go insane to the point where he tried to claw his skin off. Physically having to restrain him, Ari strapped him down to the bed where she feeds him to this day in secret.

K, give me a few bits and I'll see what I can do. Also am I correct in assuming by a "family" this is a type of gang? Or is it a literal family?

Well heres most of the sign up done, I just need to find a picture of him and it'll be done!
Tis' Finished.
It is fixed!

Spoiler:

General
Name: Aerous Oxus
Age: 25
Appearance: His arcana mark is that of a star that goes from his collar bone to his shoulder blade on his left side. It appears in such a way to make it look 3D, which gives it the effect of making it look like it moves as it is looked upon from different directions. Even slight changes of the angle in which it is being looked at will make it appear to move.
Spoiler:

Just imagine the shirt being buttoned up.

Aerous has blue eyes and black hair, which has a slight tint of blue due to the darkness and how light reflects off it. He stands at 6 foot and has a wirey muscle build. He is usually seen wearing a black suit jacket over his shoulders (he rarely wears it properly), a blue waist coat and a white dress shirt. All the shirts are tailored to fit his body perfectly as to not effect his movements while fighting. He also wears a black tie loosely around his neck, in an attempt to look "Professional." (He was told by another family member that wearing these clothes and a tie made him look like a professional.)
He wears black suit pants which are tailored to not effect his leg movements in anyway and white dress shoes that have black laces.

Personality:
Aerous is an air head. He doesn't always understand how things work or how he should act properly so ends up being slightly gullible and believes almost anything if it isn't to outrageous or doing things that embarrass the people around him and himself in a public setting, sometimes even embarrassing people if it's only him and them.
Aerous knows that he is a bit of an airhead so prefer to fight then talk things through because he can understand people much easier through fighting than talking, and as he thinks “People can't lie to me with their body language in a fight.”
Being academically challenged he is also a very straight forward person who prefers not to have to think things through in order to do them, which is a main reason he isn't a higher ranking member of the family.
He thinks of himself as a neutral person with any acts he commits neither being good nor bad which means he can perform almost anything he is ordered without having second thoughts or regrets about it. This also means he puts great trust in his superiors to tell him the right things to do. This allows him to control his emotions rather well.
Aerous is also slightly sadistic when fighting people when he's allowed to go all out or doesn't have many restrictions.

Arcana
Arcana Card: #17 The Star
Secondary Effects: The star allows Aerous to learn physical moves (such as martial arts) exceptionally fast as well as analyse people’s fighting styles within a few seconds. This effect only allows him to learn physical moves and thus can’t be used for learning things such as literature or history. Though sometimes he can see what someone is about to say and can answer them or respond before they even say it, this sometimes leads people to think he can read their minds when he cant.

Ability to control powers: Aerous has a fairly strong understanding and control over his powers as he has been using them since he was 17. Though his understanding and control is fairly good he doesn’t have much control over it unless it’s for physical use and sometimes ends up using it to see what people are going to say on accident. When he is in complete control of his powers he can instantly learn any physical move he comes in contact with or see anything that a person will physically do or say within a 30 second to a minute time span when he usually only can see what a person is going to do a few seconds into the future.

Section of the house & postion: Sword branch, high ranking member.
Aerous grew up on the island of Regalo. His parents owned their own business, a small butchery that Aerous would sometimes help at by cleaning up at night. During his school years all he was a low achiever as he couldn’t understand or grasp that well the written classes but excelled in the physical aspects of school such as the sports carnivals.

At the age of 13 Aerous began training in martial arts and sword fighting under his Uncle, who was a member of the Sword division of the Arcana Famiglia. After two years of training he had mastered both his uncles personal style of sword fighting and kung fu. At the age of 15 his parents allowed him to drop out of school to train with his uncle to become a member of the family.

The next two years continued to see his almost complete failure in the mandatory written test’s and works to join the training but his physical results were outstanding. After being brought into the family by his uncle he was taught the usage of a variety of firearms and developed his own style of martial arts using a handgun and kung fu, which he named “Gun-Fu”. He was also taught other styles of martial arts which he mastered within the 2 years since he didn’t have to go to school anymore as well as how to effectively fight against blades, short or long, by just using a knife.

At the age of 17 he was awarded his card "The Star" from it's previous owner who was at the time head of the Sword branch of the family. Aerous received the card after beating the former owner in a one on one duel that Nova had been a witness to. After the fight concluded Nova agreed with the former owner of "The Star" that Aerous would inherit it, which was effectively the last responsibility the owner as a member of the Sword branch and owner of "The Star" had; to find a suitable heir to "The Star". The decision to bestow Aerous with the card was proven to be a great decision from the previous owner as after a year of learning how to control his emotions and use his powers somewhat effectively was made a high ranking member in the Sword branch of the family. Since then he has been learning how to better control his powers while fulfilling his duties as a member of the family.

Excelling in the physical work of the family he is seen as an almost prodigy, though he lack of smarts in other fields leads other family members to play tricks on him and take advantage of his gullible side which results in some funny situations such as Aerous thinking it was appropriate to kiss every female he meet on the cheeks before saying a word to them.

Submissions are looking great from the quick skim I just had but I'll read them properly tomorrow when it's not 3am for approvals :) Just wanted to answer the question below before going to sleep though so people don't get confused;

It's neither - think of it more as the island's governing body in the form of a group of incredibly skilled people that have been called together and assigned powers to ensure they can keep the island safe and running smoothly. Some of them are related by blood whilst others aren't, but each member is initiated as part of the 'family' when they are contracted to their arcana card. Basically it's just a house full of cool people with arcana powers that keep the island in order :) Plus they all tend to wear suits whilst on duty but that's not vital haha.

While I can't join, I do want to say that this is a very nice looking RP based around an interesting concept and an interesting series (that I have yet to delve into). I can't wait to see what this is like once it gets accepted!

General

Name: Marcus de Telarius (first son, first sibling)
Age: 29
Appearance: Of the de Telarius siblings, Marcus stands head and shoulders above them, literally. At 6'4", he is a good head taller than his younger brother Beck, and even more so than Camellia, though his other brother Flint is closer in height. He is athletically built and in top physical shape, not quite like his siblings. However, he shares Beck's golden brown hair, though Marcus's is more neatly kept and tidy, much unlike Becks. It is short, military cropped, and easily maintained. Much like his personality, it is rigid and orderly. He has golden brown eyes, however are somewhat dull-looking and less refined than his siblings. Marcus has somewhat tanned skin because of a lot of time he spends on outdoor activities related to his job. Marcus customarily wears traditional and expensive looking black dress pants with dress shoes, with a dress coat over a white colored formal shirt. He wears a blank red tie, though occasionally might change the color to brown or black. A traditionalist, Marcus rarely puts on anything that would set him apart from the established norm, believing such acts of display are a distraction and bring about unwanted attention.

The only atypical part of Marcus's appears is the pair of golden gauntlets he sports on his hands, something he uses for combat. His Arcana mark is located on his back, looking like this.

Personality: Marcus is not often considered a difficult man to comprehend. He can appear serious and quiet to many of his peers, especially in regards to his duties and obligations. He is very loyal, faithful, and dependable, placing great importance on honesty and integrity, especially in regards to his duties. He is considered by many as one who can be depended on to do the right thing for his 'family' and government. He tends to believe in laws and traditions, and expects the same from others. He is never really comfortable morally with breaking laws or going against the rules. If he is able to see a good reason for stepping outside of the established mode of doing things, he may support that effort. However, Marcus more often tends to believe that things should be done according to procedures and plans, often emphasizing 'structure' and by-the-book approaches.

Marcus will often work for long periods of time and put tremendous amounts of energy into doing any task which he sees as important to fulfilling a goal. He wouldn't claim himself that he is a perfectionist, claiming to only be doing the best he can as would be expected of him, but many others would give him that title. He has an excellent ability to take any task and define it, organize it, plan it, and implement it through to completion. He is a very hard worker, who does not allow obstacles to get in the way of performing his duties. He does not usually give himself enough credit for his achievements, seeing his accomplishments simply as the natural fulfillment of his obligations. Conversely he looks down upon people that don't often do what is expected of them, especially when they have the potential to do so. This often comes up with his younger brother Beck, who Marcus often scolds for his lack of punctuality and fulfillment of his public duties and obligations. He also scolds his younger sister Camellia, due to her carefree nature, her lack of responsibility and emotionally driven prowess, and Flint for his outright disrespect and socially unacceptable behavior. He does this because he believes his family and them are model citizens that have to be a representation of what the society should act like, setting a good example, and therefore things such as tardiness, laziness, and other inappropriate behavior shouldn't be tolerated.

Despite his social standing, Marcus has certain specific relationships with each of his siblings, and for each one he scolds them for something. He views his younger sister Camellia as too carefree and high spirited. He believes her tendency to 'let things work out on their own' is ultimately destructive behavior that will get her in a lot of trouble if she doesn't consider the future. Marcus thinks she should buckle down, especially in public, to act in a more appropriate way related to her standing. He believes she comes off as too blunt very often, what he regards as inappropriate in the context of social life. He also believes she is too irresponsible. Marcus has constantly tried to instill values of responsibility into her, but often to no avail. He feels the same way for his brother Beck, who he regards as somewhat socially inept. As a somewhat opposite of Camellia, whom Marcus believes says too much in public, he believes Beck doesn't say enough, often getting too into his books and doesn't often socialize as much because of it. Marcus scolds him on the importance of being socially respectful, but most often his scolding turns to the direction of his lack of punctuality to important events. However, it is too his last brother, Flint, that Marcus often spends the most time troubling. Putting aside his lack of appropriate attire in the public's eye, Flint is the most troublesome of his siblings, showing a complete lack of social refinement, an extremely selfish persona, and downright reckless behavior. Marcus often considers him not only the embarrassment of the family, but also a problem child. By scolding his siblings, he had hoped to instill them with the same values he was brought up with, and to better prepare themselves for society's challenges, as he believes they would undoubtedly enter into high-level professions. Though he maintains a much more colder relationship with them than when they were younger, before their mother's death, Marcus still maintains a very close relationship with his family, primarily because Marcus had a direct hand in raising them as their father was often away. His strictness, often mistaken to others as cold-heartedness, is his way of trying to make his siblings turn out the best way they can be.

In terms of his social life, Marcus is adept in socializing, often acting courteous and respectful to others. He generally gets along well with others and is quite polite, and because of this many could claim he has quite a bit of friends, although in truth Marcus has few, if any he would call true friends, mostly because he doesn't often socialize with other beyond his work, believing it inappropriate and an interference. For this reason Marcus's preference is to work alone, but he does work well in teams when the situation demands it. He likes to be accountable for his actions, and enjoys being in a position of authority where he could account for others' actions as well. Marcus is often uncomfortable expressing affection and emotion to others, especially in public. He generally keeps his personal opinions to himself or contained to his private life. However, his strong sense of duty and the ability to see what needs to be done in any situation occasionally allows him to overcome his natural reservations, and he is sometimes quite a supporting and caring individual with the people that he loves.

In summation, he is a capable, logical, reasonable, and effective individual with a deeply driven desire to promote security and peaceful living. He keeps personal matters out of his duties and obligations, and fulfills such obligations to the best of his abilities.

Arcana

Arcana Card: #8 Strength
Secondary Effects: No secondary effects, though Marcus is gifted with top athletic and physical capabilities including speed, reflexes, and particularly stamina and endurance.

Ability to control powers: As a seasoned wielder of his Arcana Card, Marcus maintains a steady control over his powers. His distinct separation of personal and private matters helps keep his emotions in check, and allows for a easier use of his powers. Though he is not perfect, he generally uses his powers more easily than others.

Section of the house & postion: Leader of Sword

History on the island: Marcus was born to an upper-class family of high standing in society. Even from an early age, much was expected of Marcus from his parents, and Marcus understood and embraced his position, knowing the importance that was placed upon him. His father believed that because of their particularly high standing in society, it was expected of them to contribute and become model examples of what many should strive for. He was an unusual child in the fact that to many others in society, he appeared to be the perfect son, never wanting or whining about what he wants or what he can't have, and always acting with the utmost respect to his parents and others. Whether that was how he always was, or if those values were instilled upon him by demands primarily of his father, none ever knew. All others knew was that that was the way the boy was brought up, and that was the way he always was. As his siblings Camellia, Flint and then Beck were born, he took the role of the elder brother, and tried to fulfill it to the best of his ability. He was generally a loving brother that cared for his siblings. Often getting along with them and his mother, even as his father wasn't often around due to his importance in society.

However, that changed in an event in which Marcus's mother died in a tragic drowning accident. The effect of her passing was hurtful to Marcus, but perhaps not quite as much as Beck, Flint and Camellia. Nonetheless, he was slightly altered by the experience, often acting less caring and loving to his siblings, even in the confines of home. This was mainly due to the after affects of the incident more than the incident himself. After his mother died, his father never ceased to be away from home, so Marcus, at about fourteen years of age, took up most of the responsibility of raising his siblings. The demands of his father had not lessened the slightest, he still expecting to have his children be raised to become exceptional in whatever field they would choose to enter. He found this to be somewhat of a transition to adulthood, abandoning any past shows of affection for the purpose of continuing the role of the guardian for his siblings, while also ensuring both they and he continued to perform at a high level in studies and other undertakings. This often got them to butt heads as Marcus took the role of enforcer, especially with his siblings' starkly different personalities than his own, much to his own dismay.

On his 18th birthday, Marcus's father, with all his connections, was able to acquire for him as a present the Strength card. He was also able to arrange for La Famiglia to accept him into their government. Marcus was introduced as his prodigy son who would go far in defending the values and ideals of La Famiglia. He was therefore invited to join. Marcus accepted the invitation to join, under the exception that he would be allowed to bring his family onto the island of Regalo. From there, Marcus join the ranks of Sword as an apprentice, quickly applying his teachings of responsibility and duty from his family life to his personal life. Marcus strived to be a model protector and guardian, enforcing the rules and protecting La Famiglia. He was praised for his capabilities and quick judgement, as well as his integrity and loyalty.

As Marcus's reputation in La Famiglia grew, Nova sent for him to ask about his sister Camellia and the prospect of her joining La Famiglia. Marcus, who thought this as an opportunity to shape Camellia into a more socially responsible individual with a sense of duty and integrity, offered praise to his sister's abilities and prowess, saying that she has potential to be something special in La Famiglia. With the convincing of Marcus, Camellia was invited into La Famiglia. Marcus continued to rise in stature and rank, while also looking out for his sister within La Famiglia. Later that year, Marcus was appalled to hear that Flint had left home to travel overseas, leaving no note or hint of his whereabouts. It would be quite some time before he would return to Regalo. Though Marcus wouldn't have admitted it to anyone, he did worry for his brother.

After years in the organization, Marcus was an exceptionally high-ranking member of Sword, as well as a highly respected individual in general. Marcus elected to us his influential position to help acquire his younger brother Beck a position as well, believing he could also learn from these gifted individuals and become a more dutiful person. Marcus influenced their decisions to let Beck in by showing his skills and exceptionally intelligent mind, and thus they allowed him to join as well. Marcus continued to perform his duties in La Famiglia while looking out for Beck and Camellia.

It has since been a while since Marcus joined La Famiglia, and at the age of 26 he was promoted to the Head of Sword, in charge of the defense of Regalo and the interests of La Famiglia. This positions he has maintained to this day. Flint, who ran off a while back, returned after a few months after this event, and subsequently found a way to join La Famiglia as well. Marcus believed this to be best, using his new position of power and influence to not only look out for the region and the government, but his siblings as well. He could also be sure to keep them in line should the necessity arise.
