Hack of the Year 2012 Nomination Thread

Introduction:


Welcome to the Hack of the Year competition for 2012! Hack of the Year is a culmination of all of the hard work and effort that has gone into developing some of the best hacks in The PokéCommunity over the past twelve months. This is the time when votes for hacks in a variety of categories to determine which ones are most deserving of recognition.

Rules:

  1. You may not vote for your own hack
  2. You may not vote for any of the designated ineligible hacks (see below)
  3. You may only vote for one hack in each category
  4. You may only vote once
  5. Sideshow Showcase hacks are not elligible for nomination
  6. Do not vote for a hack because you like the author; make your decisions as objective as possible
  7. All posts in this thread must be nominations. There is a separate thread for general HotY discussion

Best Mapping - The hack with the best maps
Best Scripting - The hack whose scripts impressed you the most
Most Graphical Appeal - The hack with the best overall visual presentation
Best Story Line - The hack with the best plot/story line
Best Gameplay - The hack with the best features and that was the most fun to play
Most Engaging Hack - The hack that kept you the most interested throughout
Overall Favourite - Your personal favourite hack

A hack gets one point for every category in which you vote for it. To demonstrate this, here is an example of a vote:

In this demonstration, Prism has three votes while Genesis, Liquid Ocean, Sienna and Life of Guardians hold one vote each.

The three hacks which have the most votes overall, regardless of the categories in which the votes are allocated, will progress to the second and final round where they will be judged by long-standing members of the community for the ultimate Hack of the Year title. In addition, the hack which has the most votes in a single category for this initial round will be awarded with a corresponding title (e.g. Best Mapping).

Pokemon WARPED: Fixed Beta 3, to be available when I ask permission from Magneto20 or the other guy to fix it. Farfetch'd! Septo Conquest Deluxe is on hold until WARPED is finished to be more awesoming.

Best Mapping: Victory Fire by Wind. To tell the truth, most maps I've seen in hacks tend to be either rehashes or just don't stand out. LP does have good mapping, but it is far too linear. Wind's maps are developed and less linear.

Best Scripting: Liquid Crystal by LaZ. Excellent usage of ASM such as Red Gyarados and Ruins of Alph. Overall best programming, one of the few hacks here that is bug-free and has unique ASM.

Most Graphical Appeal: Light Platinum by Wesley. Best tiles, hands down. Wesley did a great job in making LP seem like a 4th gen game, especially with the limit capabilities of GBA software.

Best Story Line: Snakewood by Cutlerine. Cutlerine's hack does what no other hack has ever done, add a proper and enthralling storyline to a Pokemon game. Not to mention this is one of the few hacks that use an advanced level of English.

Best Gameplay: Quartz by Baro. Call me crazy, but despite how his fakemon are considered to be downright ridiculous, Baro created one of the most highly innovative hacks in PC. I mean, who else here has made a 100% fakemon hack?

Most Engaging Hack: Liquid Crystal by LaZ. At first I thought it would have been another meh-ish remake. But to tell the truth, this hack has a lot more to offer than a simple GSC remake. Snakewood would have come first, but re-using Hoenn is sort of a turn-off.

Overall Favourite: Liquid Crystal by LaZ. It's not just a remake, aside from offering three vastly improved regions and buffing up Crystal's storyline, Liquid Crystal improves the gameplay experience via the Physica/Special split.

Of the hacks I've played (not too many, but a fair share), LC stand out most for me. I voted it to the categories I feel it stands out most.

No other hack really engaged me much, so I'll stick voting on LC.
