Ah, let's see if this is the right place to ask this. This isn't really a team help question, it's an "analyzing what I'm reading regarding one specimen" type of question.

I have picked up two Emolgas in my travels and am trying to decide which is the better one to keep (as I'm going to do an in-game trade using the other for a Gigalith). I'm currently training on Route 7, where a bird breeder always challenges you in B2/W2, getting ready to face the new Mistralton Gym. I am going to level up the Emolga to take part in the battle with Skyla with my other Electric types; I have six total, and all of Skyla's trainers (and her own birds) are weak to Electric with no immunities, so I may just go in with a single game plan unlike other Gyms. Further usage I haven't decided yet, but the Levitate ability makes it immune to Ground attacks, something I love (and the same type of reason I like Marshtomp/Swampert so much, being immune to Electric with Ground typing).

I decided to toy around with the Action Replay code for viewing IVs and EVs (naturally, EVs for both are all 0 right now), and here's what I learned about them:

1) Lv.22, EVs are 24/18/25/31/02/02 (yes, 2 in special defense and 2 in speed, but an impressive 31 for special attack)
2) Lv.31, EVs are 12/19/27/09/26/16 (special attack is now the lowest, but this one's defenses are up there near the best).

My analysis:

1) Provided I don't stick it against something it's weak to, it's an excellent special attacker and could likely take out a foe with a OHKO frequently, even if underleveled. Its HP is higher than average as well. Attack is about average, defense above average.
2) Defensively, it's a wall; however, special attack is nowhere near as good as (1) and it has lower HP, while basic attack is about the same.

I'm debating trying to capture a few more by inducing them into battle with Electric types leading the party, and then go to check their IVs as well. My question is this: what would be an ideal (minimal) IV set for a Pokémon like Emolga? Keep in mind my way of building a team is covering weaknesses, and I like having a Pokémon that has moves that will cripple its opponent; thus, having a good attack or special attack is probably more important than defense, though in certain matchups my defense might be more of importance.

(Think I just answered my own question, as I found and successfully captured a 19/13/30/30/26/19; I'll load it up with special attacks so the lower Attack stat. isn't an issue.)

Emolga's really not cut to be wall... if you want to use it, go for the 31 Sp.Att IV one.

While you're right in that it shouldn't be used as a wall, it has 2 in speed. :( The last one he captured has okay speed and 30 spa, which is comparatively better, given Emolga specialises in speed and having a 2 speed IV is very unfortunate.

Also @ Cyclone, it's not Levitate, it's part flying - in fact one of its abilities allow it to absorb electricity! :) Anyway you want to be able to outspeed her birds so you're best off going for the higher speed you can get (so because of Emolga being somewhat frail you need to not take many hits and rather all-out attack), given they're pretty frail and die easily (and generally she's the easiest gym leader to face).

Hey! I don'y know if this goes here, but I'm playing a monotype challenge on sapphire (grass), this is my team after defeating Watson:

Grovyle Lvl 26
Lombre Lvl 28
Breloom Lvl 25

I tried using an oddish, now a gloom and I realized it was useless

Any recommendations?

Hey everyone, I decided to take a break from White 2 so I could play Black 2. I chose Snivy for my starter and was wondering what a good/strong team would be to build around him. I already caught a Riolu because, well, he is !%@# awesome. Other than him though, who else should I get? Thanks in advance.

I now have for a team: Charizard, Venusaur, Blastoise, Raichu and Gengar. They are all level 100, but I do not have a sixth pokemon. I used Mewtwo, but using legendary pokemon is now forbiden for tournaments where I go.
Can anyone please tell me a good pokemon I could use? I would also be very happy if someone is able to tell me what are my type advantages and disadvantages with my current team.
I am sure you all noticed, but my team is all from Kanto, so please suggest a pokemon from that region.

One more thing. What are vitamins for? Once a guy told me to give them to my pokemon so they would get stronger, but since i defeated him I never did it. Does it increase the stats? And is that increase permanent?

It increases their EV's. When you have enough EV's (I think it's 4 @ lvl 100) then that will give you +1 to that stat.

Anyway, post the movesets and natures.

I would only add that this applies only when EVs are under 100.
If they are >= 100 then vitamins no longer work.
But seeing ranso's team is level 100, I believe if not full, then surely Pokémon have more than 100 EV.
Also, ranso33, may you specify which game are you playing? Because generation also helps as we'll be able to know whether the physical/special split is present.

You have 4 grass types AND a water type, but you still cannot beat Clay? I would suggest using stab moves.

I'd get 'em all up to level 30 before battling Clay. You have type advantage on Clay, he should be easy to be.

What I recommend you to do:

1.Like PikachuAddict said to you, level up them to lv.30, at least try to train them more.
2.Once you train them more ~lv.30 use your grass types first, then use your water type, but DON'T use Joltik first, put him in the last slot!

So I got SS yesterday and got through the first two gyms with just my starter and a zubat, but today I tried the third gym and both my guys fainted. I really need a new team member or two but I have no idea who to add. My starter is cyndaquil and like I said, I have a zubat. I was thinking about getting a sentret, and I really want some fighting type for this gym especially. So what do you guys suggest?

What levels are your Pokémon at right now? I'd suggest rather than getting Sentret, you get a fighting type, a female fighting type to beat Whitney. Heracross is really good, you can headbutt it out of the trees in Azela Town. You can also get a Machop by trading a Drowzee for one in the Goldenrod Department Store.

My quilava is a level 21 and my zubat is a level 18 or 19, I can't remember which. So why a female fighting type? And would Herecross be a long term team member or would I want to get rid of it?

A female fighting type because she likes to inflict infatuation on male Pokémon, which makes them miss 50% of the time. As for whether Heracross would be a long term member, it really depends on you. I used my Heracross through the E4.

for me, maybe a fire type, but its not necessary because you already have a flying type.. For me a powerful fire type is a houndoom..
