It was the anime as well. It is not the sole reason I have an account here though. Matter of fact, I don't watch anime anymore. Stopped at season 9.

Man that is eerily similar to my first experience. We were going on vacation to Sweden and my mom bought a gameboy color for me and my brother. She bought him blue and bought me red.

My first Pokémon experience was when the kid at the school introduced me and my sister to the TCG. From there we both watched the anime and played the games.

I think I watched the anime first then when I got a Nintendo 64 my first pokemon game was Pokemon Stadium. Then later on my first handheld was a Gameboy advance and I had Pokemon Sapphire. I liked the games since then but I don't watch the anime anymore.

I'm sure I saw the anime first, then that led to me getting blue version on xmas back in '98.

Reading the previews for the games in Nintendo Power. Then my brother bought Red version, played it for awhile, and I eventually decided I needed to buy Blue version for myself.

So in a word, the games.

I first found out about Pokemon while at a summer day camp. A lot of the other campers spent their time trading Pokemon cards. I hadn't had much luck making friends up to that point, and figured that getting some Pokemon cards to trade would help, so I told my mom about it, and she bought me the Starter Set.

Ultimately, I didn't end up trading those cards (as I wanted a deck for the TCG), but I started collecting other cards I could trade. Later that summer, I saved up for Red Version and started watching the TV show. Compared with a lot of people I knew, I got into Pokemon relatively late (I think the TV show had been on since the previous fall), but I've been hooked ever since.

Definitely the anime. It was shown locally, and I liked it.

For all intents and purposes, it started and ended with the anime. The show probably had the most longevity to me, and when I stopped watching that was probably when I stopped focusing so intently on the franchise. Yeah, I played some side games afterword, but with mild interest.

The first 50 some episodes of Pokemon, though, will always be my favorite because without them, I probably would've wrote Pokemon off. I'm not even a fan of RPGs to be honest.

I saw a few commercials about the anime, but I wasn't that much interested. Then my cousin, who's a huuuuuge Pokemon fan, let me borrow his Gameboy. I played Pokemon Fire Red, and the rest was history.

I'm preeeeeeeety sure I saw the anime before playing the games. Don't quote me on it, because I could be talking absolute tripe, but I think I became interested in getting Pokemon Blue for Christmas because I'd seen either a whole episode or at least part of one a few months/weeks before. By the time the games came out in Europe, it was already this crazy cultural phenomenon, so I would have gotten it anyway, but I think the anime precipitated the games slightly in the UK at least.

Place: Our old rented apartment, in the living room with the fat back TV (brought from China! We had to use wires shaped into antennae just to get a signal.)
As I was surfing through the channels I randomly glimpsed upon the first Pokemon movie. I was immediately glued and watched all of it in one sitting. I proceeded to search up anything Pokemon-related, leading to my near-addiction to it today!
For those who can't construe a dry witticism, a striking montage or an insightful quote to place on their signatures, copy this into it. Now I can rest, knowing I have brethren suffering from a similar dilemma.

I first knew Pokemon when I watched the anime
The first game I played was Pokemon Gold, the motion in it used to hurt my eyes a little bit, then anytime I finish playing I see everything a bit blurry and doubled hehehe

Thinking about it, I'm having nostalgic flashbacks now... I vividly remember the original ads for Pokemon red and blue versions, I was only 5 or 6 at the time, but I remember seeing the ad and thinking that sounds awesome! I had blue and my sister had red. For a couple of weeks we had to share an old monster green scale gameboy before I got a gameboy pocket I never really got into the anime, but I do have a few VHS tapes from the first season laying around somewhere...

Hmm... I believe I was at my cousin's house, and he was playing Yellow. I remember for the longest time, I wasn't allowed to play Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh or anything like that, but my cousin let me borrow his Gameboy Color and Pokemon Red.

I miss those things. ;~;
One day I'll have something interesting to put here.

Hmm...well, I recall playing Pokemon Stadium and watching a couple of maybe Johto episodes a lo~ong time ago, when I was like 5, but my parents thought it was demonic, so I wasn't able to really play or watch the show anymore.

Then in 5th Grade my sister's new boyfriend had gotten a new DS, and gave his old one to me, and I noticed it had a game in it: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team. Once I began playing that, I became an avid fan of Pokemon ever since, buying Pokemon Diamond shortly afterwards...

My first experience I remember is watching Pokémon anime by rental VCD. I remember one of the episodes I watched is when Pikachu is against Raichu (Season 1).

I remember when I was a toddler, and I was browsing the tv, and it was showing the first episode of the pokemon anime. I immediatly liked the show, and subsequently, the games, when I got a sapphire copy.

It was back when I was 6, I got pokemon Ruby (Sapphire is better) because I liked the anime and found out about the games. When I started I had no clue what I was doing. I thought I would have to give up right there. Thank god I didn't, if so I would have never know about black/white 2 which were amazing games, as well has never starting to play competitive.

I'm not sure if it was Pokémon Stadium, the trading cards or the anime lol, I have many fond early memories of my experiences but I can't quite remember my first one, it was one of the three lol

My first experience with the franchise was when in 1999 when I was eleven. First I bought a magazine that had a Super Smash Bros review, and was puzzled about what this new character called Pikachu was supposed to be.

After that in France we had promotional comic books released and given away for free at Toys'R'Us stores. Each comic book was an episode of the anime in comic book form and three or four articles about the games. And that's when I started to be interested, more by the game than the animé. I did start to watch the animé, but remember losing interest around episode 6 or 7. A few months later I got to try the game on a friend's Gameboy (I didn't have one back then) and was immediately hooked. I got a Gameboy Pocket for my birthday in 2000 and Pokémon Blue a few weeks later.

After that I tried following the animé again just to see what treatment different gyms would get in the animated form (just like reading a book then watching its movie adaptation, you know) , but I gave up rather quickly and ended up hating the animé with a passion. I still love the games though.
