If I have a special Pokemon like a shiny or a Pokemon that I can't seem to lose, then the save file is pretty much permanent and well..I can just buy a new game. xD No need to lose precious Pokemon! I only restart when I don't have Pokemon that need to be saved. lol

Like my White save, I can't risk overwriting it. I have a shiny Sceptile, seven of the eight Eeveelutions, and a Meganium I got from a trade. I'll get Black or another White game, that's it. :P

When I first started playing Pokémon, at a point I had six members on my team and went on to catch a seventh pokémon that I really wanted. Upon being told it had been transferred to "Someone's PC", I panicked, wondering if I would have to go through the entire region to find this person's PC. Failing to notice how illogical my pokémon being transferred to a randomer's computer would be, I restarted the game. :(

Haven't done it since, as I adore the post-game stuff and would hate to lose everything I've collected.

I usually restart after a certain point. I save some of the stuff I have obtained (like if I am lucky and have a shiny or an event) I try to save it but other than that I generally restart after defeating the Elite 4 a few times.

Like a few other people, I restart my games and keep a collection of pokemon on 'home cartridges'. I typically get a team of 6 pokemon to level 100, swap them over, and start the game again later.

I don't restart my games much. Well, since I play most of my games after DPPt on an emulator on my laptop, there are save states and load states which enable me to save more than one game on each respective version, so I don't have any reason to restart. I usually have attachments to my Pokemon on each game, so restarting kinda hurts. I only restart if the starter I chose didn't live up to my expectations or if I didn't like my team.

It's just a game lol, I restart all the time because I get bored and so I can collect all the badges and see the in-game events again.

It's a real shame that to create a new profile you either have to restart and go through the story again or waste some of your cash to buy a copy. Anyway, I do tend to restart quite often, but really only if I feel the need to play a different Pokemon. Trading isn't my interest.

My policy on restarting is simple:

>Before restarting, all legendaries must be caught.
>All Pokemon must be transferred that hold any sentimental value.

That's basically it. I never develop a "bond" with my files, just the Pokemon, and I end up transferring those so that I can keep them instead of losing them.

Restarting a Pokémon game file is pretty difficult for me to do. I feel like I've invested alot of time into my games and that it would all go to waste if I start over.

It's pretty easy to do so, especially if you screwed up on your starter choice, or failed to catch a legendary. Only issue would be the event legendaries, and thankfully I had none up till now.

I restart all the time. I never really go for the national dex, so that isn't a problem. And the team I have can be re-made.
Demons run when a good man goes to war,
night will fall and drown the sun
when a good man goes to war
Friendship dies and true love lies
Night will fall and dark will rise
when a good man goes to war
Demons run, but count the cost
the battle's won, but the child is lost.

Normally I won't restart, instead I'll just buy another copy of the game.

I did make an exception when my grandma bought me Pokemon White. I restarted my Black2 game after defeating Elite 4. I just wanted to play White game with both Snivy and Oshawott in the same team - and as I could trade I traded Oshawott with some random Pokemon (I think it was a Patrat or Lilipup).

Restarted Black2 again, and now I"m equal on both games (got the 5th badge).

After this I will just buy another copy of Black2 or White instead of restarting. So to answer question:

Restarting? No.

I do enjoy collecting, and sometimes trading. But I restart my game, pretty much right after I beat the game, lol. I usually enjoy raising my Pokemon the first time, so to be able to do it again is great.

I restart one of my games every few weeks. I can't imagine buying a game, only to do one play through and then toss it into the pile never to be seen again

I just restarted HG again yesterday

Back on the days of GSC, I never restarted because of the following...

Pokémon Stadium 2 had a feature called N64 Boxes where you could store your Pokémon from all games released up to that point. This allowed you to transfer Pokémon to the N64 cartridge and retrieve them later when you restarted the game. However, in the case of GSC, there was a catch: you could only retrieve Pokémon with different IDs after having at least 100 Pokémon caught in the Pokédex. Since I was lazy and didn't want to catch a large amount of Pokémon, I decided against restarting, so I kept my Gold save which had 999+ hours, plus several L100 Pokémon and a few shinies. I never restarted that game.

The later Pokémon games I only played on emulators so I didn't have the same sense of attachment, despite having caught a shiny Roselia in Platinum. The only really valuable Pokémon that can be lost in a restart are shinies, the rest (competitive Pokémon with perfect IVs for example) you can get back with the long route (RNG) or the short route (PokéGen).

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, the day Pokémon pulled a Dallas and jumped the shark.

I restart all the time! Pokemon has really high replay value to me so I find myself restarting different games a couple times a year. Sometimes I restart more than one at the same time - right now I'm playing through Ruby Version and Platinum Version, and I'm still doing some post-story stuff in White 2.

Agree with this 100%. The only game I've restarted was Diamond because I really did want a fresh start as I felt I hadn't put enough effort into my first playthrough. I still have my original Blue and Gold save files which will never be restarted same as my Crystal, Sapphire and Black save files which I treasure.
