All I hope from the story of pokemon X and Y is that it takes longer than the avg time (30 hours) that way if nintendo's coming up with a follow up, it'll give them some time to do so.

Generation 1 covers the history how Pokemon originated with the fact directing to mew being the Ancestor of most known Pokemon. Generation 2, I don't know, LOL. Generation 3 explains how the continents and seas were created. Generation 4 explains the creation of the pokemon world and Generation 5 explains the relation with pokemon and humans.

What history lesson are we going to learn this Generation 6?
Either light and dark, or the earth and sky. idk. But by the picture we got of one of the legendarys, it looked heavy on dark type, so maybe a new light type or a normal type?

Well, there have been constant rumors of connections to chromosomes and such, and personally, story-wise, I'd like to see this:

>Longer metagame time concerning the plot.

>A deeper, more serious storyline akin to B/W, but just slightly more serious. And, by that, I mean having the villains (Peons especially) be less comical.

>The origins of Man explained, along with our co-habitation with Pokemon.

>Some sort of personal struggle for the player, either one that could branch the story into multiple end results, or one that will leave us with a lingering sense of "What if?" after the credits role.

The evil team might be trying to use the legendary Pokémon to change their DNA structure to something they can potentially use to destroy the region. Just a thought.

Speaking of Storyline, isn't it about time we have a longer post-game plot. Mostly after beating the league, we are asked small tasked then we go do things as we please. It would give people much interest and encourage people to continue playing after the league when the previously inaccessible areas have a small story to it.

I'm still going by my prediction that the story will be about the evil team stealing Pokemon DNA to use it on themselves to gain their powers to take over the world as the superior specimens.

I think it'll be nice if the story was expanded, with more story added between each badge and the league as well, maybe add some side journeys in between.

In generation 6, i would like to actually be able to choose my adventure rather being forced to do specific things. We should be able to join the villains and have several different endings depending on your actions. We should be able to interact with wild pokemon rather than having four basic options followed by more options. For example, we should be able to weaken pokemon through other methods than brute force. Trainers should be able to use words to convince pokemon to join them instead of bashing them into submission. It would be great if we encounter our starter pokemon and talk them into joining you. Pokestars Studios is the closest thing we have to choose your adventure and I would love it if it could be expanded.

You do realise this is a game designed for children right? Game Freak are never going to make a Pokemon game where you play as villains. Do you know how grief parents would give them for having a protagonist that promotes crime?

I do like the idea that you can obtain Pokemon without using the regular method. It's already been done in spin-off games so it should be fine and it would be a lot easier to catch Beldum/Metang/Metagross.

well by it being a game for kids they wouldn't do that because stuff like that could mess with a kid's mind

for example: say you have a really young kid who really loves the series and you're able to join team rocket (a bunch of thugs and thieves) and it just so happens team rocket might be their favorite part about the series, and they use team rocket as roles models ect. it might turn them into a thug or a thief.

It would be an interesting concept if you could choose your own adventure, but the main Pokémon games have always been about collecting 8 gym badges, defeating the villainous team and then defeating the Champion of the Pokémon League.

But I think being able to choose different paths in which way you'd like to go, such as joining the evil team would be nice... not that it would probably happen though. How about something in which you can only do once in the game? Where you actually choose a certain command or something and at the end... the person gives you a different item, depending on which command you chose.

And as for being able to weaken wild Pokémon through words to convince them to join... I really don't see this happening, but it would be nice to have something like that, but I think it should be left to the scripts in the game, like how Zorua joined you in B/W if you had a spare Poké Ball and a Celebi. And also... the anime pretty much explains that Pokémon like to have a little challenge to strengthen themselves before they can be caught, almost like as if they're playing a little game, like how some of Ash's Pokémon did. The same thing would also apply to the games themselves. ;)

I guess that's kind of expected though, that eventually each major point in the game would continue and enhance the story in some way, really. :3

Some people seem to be forgetting that Mewtwo's manipulation by Team Rocket was anime only...it's not canon in game!

Anyways I hope we have two teams. I like Piplup's idea of an ancient pokemon...
Perhaps the legends in this game are ancient legendary pokemon which somehow died out due to an unknown cause (third version mascot?) and are revived using the advancements in the fossil reviving machine throughout the past five generations.

actually it is in the game, in fire red there is the evidence that shows both team rocket and blaine used the mansion to create mewtwo. It was the lab originally hence why there is the diaries about mew.

Aw genetics, the moment I heard your sweet words I had to research this game. As a game theorist I take huge interest in just the little things that other's haven't took notice and yes there is more then likely a chance this games storyline is deeper then it gets. This region is heavly based off of Europe, from the landmarks all the way down to a little sheep. Why sheep you may ask ? Well heard of Dolly..? If you have this was the first animal in real life to ever have been cloned and isn't it funny that we see a DNA sign in the japaness logo and that X and Y are based off chromosomes ? Ha ! Ohh I'm not done either, so you remember Sylveon ? well isn't it funny how she's going to appear in PK25 and how the 16'th movie is called "Extreme Speed Genesect: Mewtwo's Awakening" Both these pokemon were made by humans through trying to clone or change. So all I can say is genetics don't sound to far from my mind. Hell there's still more research I can do to prove my point more, however this is just my theory though >3<

Well if there ended up being two teams, like Magma and Aqua, which aren't necessarily "evil" I don't think It'd be that bad.

Maybe becoming the champion isn't the end, maybe the storyline continues, then the conclusion will come.
Or the storyline will also include something about the region.

This is what I'm hoping for. Maybe they can add story to our return home, and along the way we encounter the evil team raising the legendary pokemon. How shocking would that be, credits role than the player comes to a stop and it turns out it's not over yet.

That would be great! I would love if in the middle of the credits, something shocking happens and we're yanked out of it to see that there is a huge problem that we encounter on the way back!

This is a bit random, but if Looker or any other Interpol people are featured, which I think they will be, then I hope it's not saved for a miniquest and that they are a part of the main story. Because those guys are epic.

That would be cool, like you get home and the next day you find out the evil team has captured half the region and you must go back and free it of their control.

That's pretty creative actually, and something a troll like GameFreak would totally do if the idea ever crossed their minds. It's sort of like giving the games two parts of a larger storyline, with the ending of the first part paving the way for what happens midway through the credits.

That'd be awesome, but it'd also bring up something new - the legendary would then be groomed to be evil, which is something they haven't covered before either (iirc) and would definitely add more reason to play it after that point.

Well, thinking more about this, I guess the main story will more than likely involve a villainous team trying to get their hands on a Legendary Pokémon to change/take over the world, as usual. But... I just want the storyline with the villains to be more direct, you know? Let me explain:

At times, I miss Team Rocket. First and foremost, they weren't that obtuse. Their goal was achieved well before your story began. They were dealing with smuggling and kidnapping, blackmailing, burglary and probably money laundering, what do I know. And running a somewhat legit casino. They were the mafia. They practically owned Kanto by the time Red showed up. They didn't really want to change the world, steal all the Pokémon or something equally farfetched. They wanted to keep the status quo, and your quest was to bring them down. They didn't dress up in (overly) stupid costumes, and their leader was a carismatic guy in a tuxedo and with a realistic hair style/colour (looking at you, Colress). Regular bandits, not radical extremists or rebels. In later games, Cipher and Team Snagem were much the same. Cipher, much like Team Rocket, wanted a strong legendary Pokémon, but they only wanted it to increase their efficiency at evildoing. They used it for robberies, instead of challenging the world order. After all, a successful villainous team is dependant on a functioning society to leech off, and they don't want to raise more attention than necessary. Sure, their goal is world domination, but they want to achieve it using sneaky means. You would hardly notice it the day they eventually took over.

All games since R/S/E have featured more ambitious and crazy villains, though. A "plot creep" has taken place, now there's always the world that is on stake. Defeat the villains, or face doomsday. I can see the logic behind that, it makes you more of a hero, but still... it's just not as plausible. It feels a little too forced that you singlehandedly save the world. Bringing down a local crime cartel by uncovering their hideouts and chasing their grunts out of several towns, then thwarting their takeover of some landmark, that seems a little more realistic. Heck, in G/S, you stop a hostage situation at the Radio Tower, and fix a sabotage attempt of the Railway in Kanto. You don't change the world, but you stop baddies you can relate to, and directly help a lot of people. In later games, you're pushed before The Pokémon That Created The World As We Know It, and disband the evil team by befriending it. Whoopity-woo.

Well, To elaborate on this, consider the image of the evil teams through the generations. We're starting at the most recent, with Team Plasma. They appear out of nowhere, tell people to release their Pokémon, and wander off. Everybody wonders "Who are those people? What do they want?" Then later, you stop them without the general population understanding much of what was happening. Goal: Take over the world. First by disarming the population, then failing that, blackmailing everybody using Kyurem to destroy those who resisted.

Team Galactic were equally bad, pretending to be in the energy business while secretly researching legendary Pokémon so they could shape the world to their image. Most inhabitants of Sinnoh guessed that they were up to no good, but their actions never really affected anybody. You stopped them before they could interfere with people's daily life. Goal: To create a new universe with Cyrus as god.

Team Aqua and Team Magma were also scheming guys who stuck to the shadows, and used science to fuel their environmental terrorism before searching out Kyogre and Groudon and trying to use them instead. They broke into places and stole stuff, built elaborate secret bases and used fancy equipment in pursuit of their goal. Goal: Changing the environment globally to better suit their favourite types of Pokémon. They never really revealed themselves to the general population, preferring to work without much interference.

Then, Team Rocket. First of all, when you encounter them, you see that they rule stuff in Kanto. Most of the region, seemingly apart from the remote Pallet-Viridian-Pewter area, is the playing ground of Team Rocket. Everybody talk about them. Everybody is afraid of them. The police are helpless. They make headlines in papers daily. They run businesses all over the region. Multiple regions, even. People talk about them everywhere. People are openly confessing, outright bragging, that they are members of Team Rocket. They are powerful and they know it. As far as I can recall at the top of my head, Vermilion City is the only settlement in eastern Kanto without a permanent Rocket presence. They have society in a vicegrip, and it's up to you to stop them. Goal: Acquiring money. Making profit. Stealing Pokémon. Continue until world domination is achieved.

I guess my point for my overall speculation and hopes for this storyline is that in XY, I wish for a little scaled-down plot, with an added "oomph". Legendaries that are powerful and rare, but not almighty and one-of-a-kind, and certainly not in charge of vital functions of the universe. Just a really strong, rare and revered creature that according to local lore appears from time to time. B/W was great in that regard, imo, there were no world-shaping legendaries there, yet they ran into world-destroying-territory when Kyurem was used to blackmail the entire region in BW2. Maybe I'm not the creative type in this, but... it'd be nice.

Perhaps we can have a group that is wide open about their plans and the region does nothing about it, or they don't take them as a series threat at first, sort of like how people viewed the fascists who did criminal like stuff out in the open and oppressed the people with violence. Perhaps one of the gym leaders or even more reasonable the champion wants to do something about it, but can't do it by herself (or himself), asks the gym leaders for help but they do nothing. So when the player goes ahead and decides to stop the evil team by him or herself they inspire the gym leaders to join in and try to take back their region.

I felt this was different enough from the general Storyline Speculation thread to warrant it's own. If not feel free to merge it over.

As far as the storyline goes, it's a pretty linear design that hasn't changed much over the generations: Get your Pokémon, battle the gyms, beat the evil team along the way, defeat them in a climax at a large location, and go onto the Elite Four. The only real switch away from this was with N's Castle in Black and White. Hey, it fits the don't fix what ain't broke mentality, but then there's a simple question: What if this generation was different?

What if along your journey, you failed at one of the points where you are supposed to defeat the evil team? What if the game reflected this, and allowed for them to take over further, instead of just you whiting out and getting the chance to battle them again? What if your losses actually affected what happened to your character throughout the story. Of course, there would still be the big resolution near the end of the game, but what if you were held accountable for failures? If this were possible, do you think it could be implemented into some sort of difficulty setting? Is this just way too far off-base for a Pokémon game? Discuss!
