First off, how do people feel about trick room in terms of strategy, effectiveness, power? What are your strategies for playing against it, or playing your own TR team?

I ask because i have been playing a lot of random matchups recently and i come accross the occasional trick room team. It seems to me that if they are put together right and the person knows what they are doing, then the team can wreak havoc. Other times the team simply seems inconsistent.

I have a Trick Room team as one of my used teams.
Trick Room is really good strategy if you want to go for stalling/wall strategy.
Or for sweepers that don't have that much of a speed.
In that case, you can boost dominant attack stat + other EV instead of Speed.
I loved Trick Room + Shuckle with Power Trick and Stone Edge... instakill :D

Battling against them is tough... :D
Hard to find an always working strategy against them...
But what must be your first move is to destroy Trick Room setter.
Once you do that, and your opponent has all dependencies on the Trick Room, you are almost guaranteed to win

Trick Room teams are always fun to use since most of the Pokemon that benefit from them tend to be slow but hard-hitters, Reuniclus and Escavalier are total powerhouses under the Trick Room conditions, not only is it fun for using sweepers with low Speed but it can benefit wall strategies too.

As for countering Trick Room teams, the best strategy is probably knock out the Trick Room setter and then when the effect goes away you should get an advantage that should allow you to win.

I used to joke with D_A that the only time I would ever lose to *insert inferior from years ago* was when I used a Trick Room team I built with Vance once.

In all seriousness, Trick Room is a pretty bad competitive strategy. In OU/Ubers (I guess? Not going to pretend like I know anything about Ubers lol) it faces competition from weather, and the same is true in OU. The permanent status of those effects (not to mention the fact that those effects happen to be better) make Trick Room inferior as a team concept. Its limited turn count is the real turn-off. Besides something like Trick Room Reuniclus, I don't think I've ever seen it used effectively. Of course, I haven't played seriously in like 2-3 years, but...

Anyway, Trick Room is kind of crappy but fun to do when you want to mess around. It also lets you use slow Pokemon like SD Marowak or something that would otherwise be totally useless. Not like they're all that good if they only have like two turns to sweep, but still, Marowak is a baller.

To add on to what hes saying. My experience with trick room is that the setter is very hard to OTKO so have a prankster with Taunt is also a good option to have.

They're a bit of fun to use and rewarding when played well but in terms of general usefulness it's very low in the food chain.

Trick room? is this an actual part of the game, or just something player-created?

From what i have learned playing a Trick Room team and against TR teams, is that a good team will have multiple TR users and often a backup plan of some sort.

Although TR faces a lot of strong competition, i do not feel that it is not completely un-viable in the OU tier.

It has access to some strong sweepers and defensive walls.

If i had to gear up a TR team it would consist of,

Whimsicott ( Prankster TR is too good to pass up)
Reuniclus ( obvious sweeper)
Porygon 2 ( eviolite makes it viable, in my opinion)
Scizor/Metagross ( Priority makes a difference)
Gastrodon/Jirachi ( wall/ anti-weather kinda, alternative sweeper, entry hazards)
Eelektross ( excellent type coverage, and it got some new moves in BW2)

Ouch, there's no Bronzong? :D
How could you forget such a fantastic TR abuser? :/

Don't get me wrong, Bronzong is excellent on Trick Room Teams. If i were to replace any pokemon out of the six i listed it would probably be Porygon 2.

The reason i included it over Bronzong was that it is actually bulkier than Bronzong with eviolite.

It's a part of the game, yeah. It's not overly common in-game, but TR was p much created so that slower Pokemon could still be strong and fast for a few turns :3

As for me I just lose to Trick Room ;_; idk why but I really suck against it ahahaha. :( I don't use it though. :x
