"The Light of Floccesy Ranch!" Airdate: 18 May 2013 [USA]
Ash&co end up at Floccesy Ranch. The Ampharos that acts as a sheepdog to the Mareep is very timid and not very powerful, so the Mareep don't listen to it. The owner of the Ranch tells his granddaughter that if Ampharos doesn't shape up, it will have to go. Iris decides to have Dragonite attempt to teach Ampharos Thunder Punch in an effort to strengthen it. In the meantime, Team Rocket decide to capture Mareep.
Filler filler filler. Why are we filling? Could have some more episodes with N in. Or character development. Or training for Pokémon we already know. It wasn't a bad episode really, just not particularly exciting imo.
I'm not sure that's it haha. I think they were trying to extend the N arc with some filler, but I don't understand why. They could have just made another episode involving N or Plasma and expanded that story arc rather than put a filler in, because [sorta spoilers] Episode N feels really rushed just as it is. They could have done so much more with Plasma and N. idk man. :|
The writing staff for Pokémon just don't know how to do proper storytelling. Adding in a filler in an already compressed arc? That makes no sense. Last week's episode could have easily been a two-parter instead of having this filler of an episode. It just makes the N Episodes feel choppy, because this has nothing to do with N or what Team Plasma and Colress are currently up to.
It was random, but I'm sure the episode's purpose was to show off Floccesy Ranch in the anime. It wasn't the best time to do it, but I guess it had to be done.
I was kind of hoping that Team Rocket would've actually got away with stealing the Mareep.
Unfortunately, the anime is basically a half hour long commercial for the games thus why they had to do it. However, I will say there are better ways it could have been done. In B2W2 Team Plasma was involved with Floccesy Ranch. It would have been nice if the writers would have done something similar here to at least advance that side of the plot even further without having it be a straight up filler and no ties to the overall arc.
