POKÉMON GENERAL
R U L E S

What is this forum about?

Welcome to Pokémon General, otherwise referred to as PGen or PG. This section is a catch-all for topics that aren't restricted to any of the other sections alone. If your pokémon-related thread is about things that regard multiple media, no medium at all or just doesn't seem to fit well anywhere else, this is probably where it should be!

For example:
  • Threads about any of the existing official pokémon manga, such as Pokémon Adventures, should definitely go here in Pokémon General! For chit-chat about the manga, visit the List & Chit-Chat thread.
  • Discussions regarding Ash or the anime movies or episodes should go in Pokémon Anime.
  • Roleplaying, as per writing posts rather than playing a video game, can be done in Roleplay Corner and if you want to post your own fanfiction or original writing, you can do so in Fanfiction & Writing.
  • Anything that involves showcasing or discussing fan-made art should go in Art & Design.
  • You are now free to post any fan-created Pokémon music/videos in its own thread, but be aware that signing up just to post your content or leaving nothing more than a link in the OP may result in the removal of the topic.

What to do and what to avoid!

Make sure that you have read the forum-wide PokéCommunity rules before you post! And make sure to follow them. They all apply in PG. Failure to follow these rules might lead to warnings or infractions.
Do not post in threads that are over one month old! That is called thread revival. If the last post in the thread was made over a month ago, the thread is considered dead and you can make a new one instead.
Before posting a new thread, always double check that it doesn't fit better in Pokémon Gaming Central.
Regarding scans/scanlations of manga: you may not discuss or link to manga hosting sites, torrents, galleries etc. Exception: you may link directly to one or a few manga pages on the web now and then if you want to show something or prove a point; for the sake of the discussion, simply. PC cannot be a library or host of scans or scanlation projects, no matter what has gone down in the past.
Try and keep similar threads to a single topic. Rather than asking something like “What is the most important pokémon in Johto?” and “What is the most important pokémon in Sinnoh?” across two threads, you could easily make one thread asking “What is the most important pokémon in each region?”
Do not create threads to sell or advertise anything, regardless if it is an item or a website. This is strongly against the PokéCommunity rules and you will be infracted.
When you get an idea for a new thread, look through the index to make sure that a similar thread does not already exist. If there is, but it has not been posted in over the last 30 days, you may create the new one! Otherwise you can just post in the old one.
Be clear with thread names. Make sure that your new thread's name is relevant to the discussion and not misleading. That being said, it can still be made interesting and fun, as long as it gives the reader an good enough idea of what the topic is!
Do not mini-mod, please. If you see a post that you think is breaking the rules or doesn't really fit where it is posted, or see a member who is doing something wrong - report it! Telling users what you think they did wrong only bumps the thread further, and no one will get mad at you and everything will be sunshine and blossoms. This is what the report button looks like:

Credits and mentions.

All of the previous Pokémon General moderators contributed to the rules in some way. Special mentions go to Aegis, Dragon and Oryx for coming up with much of the content on which these rules are based.

POKÉMON GENERAL
E M B L E M S

What is this talk about emblems?

PGen is a clever forum, where you get opportunity to really think before you post. No matter if it is a discussion topic in the main forum, a chit-chat topic or even a quick poll, the thread and the whole forum comes alive and becomes more fun to post in when responses are well thought out. And many!

For this reason, there exist some emblems that are specific to Pokémon General. To get your hands on these lovely little status gems, there are some things you will have to do to help PGen thrive...

What kind of emblems, then?

If you post in a lot of threads in Pokémon General forum, and if your responses and topics are substantial and well thought out, and if you make sure to actually discuss with others rather than just post and leave - then you might eventually find yourself with a really prestigious emblem!

If you are active in topics regarding Pokémon manga, a specially loving emblem might become yours! A good protip is to post in the manga list thread often, and create some threads ;)

If you create a lot of threads, and if those threads have interesting and popular topics - then you have fought enough of a battle to be rewarded with an emblem!

Of course, on PC there are more different emblems you can get if you make a lot of proper, interesting or helpful posts. So what's stopping you? Get out there and open up new discussions today!

POKÉMON GENERAL
~ NOW FEATURING CLUBS! ~

So, what are these clubs I've been hearing about?

Pokémon clubs are exactly what you think they'd be- a place to chat, discuss, and hang out with other members who all share an interest in a certain aspect of the Pokémon franchise. Whether that be your favorite Pokémon types, characters that span across multiple forms of media, or even something as simple as cute Pokémon, there's probably a club out there waiting for you!

Rules for Pokémon clubs

While it would be nice to post whatever you want and spam to your heart's content, there are a few rules you need to follow when posting in/creating Pokémon clubs. Of course, all PokéCommunity global rules and the Pokémon General rules above apply, as well as the rules below, adapted from the previous rules of the Pokémon Clubs forum.

Please follow all rules of your club.
What, more rules? Yes, I know there are a lot of rules to keep track of, but if the staff and club owners are happy, then you'll be happy too, since your favorite clubs can run smoothly and be as active as possible. These rules will likely include a sign-up form found in the opening post, so take a little extra time to read it, to be sure that you're welcomed into the club with open arms!

Keep club themes broad, if possible.
While you may be the self-proclaimed world's biggest fan of Bidoof, there may not be as many people you think that share your passion. Try making a club with a broader theme (such as Normal-type Pokemon), since you're likely to get more members if you cater to a wider audience.
NOTE: Some clubs that don't follow this rule may be deleted so that other threads aren't pushed off the front page. Feel free to contact Brendino for any questions/concerns about a missing club.

Club owners can own no more than 3 clubs in Pokémon General.
A rule carried over from the Pokémon Clubs forum, this is to ensure both that members don't have a monopoly over all the clubs, and that they aren't stretched thin by trying to run too many clubs at once.

Club ownership may be transferred under special circumstances.
If a club owner has been inactive for an extended period of time, or if they no longer wish to run their club, ownership of the club may be transferred to another eligible member. At the new owner's discretion, the club can either be recreated, or the original thread can continue, with the new owner taking over as the OP.

Double posting is allowed under special circumstances.
For club owners, you will not be infracted for double posting in your club, as long as you've got a legitimate reason for it (ex: announcing the results of a contest a day after your previous post). Any other club members are free to double post if two weeks have passed without a response, in order to try and revive the discussion. In any case, triple, quadruple, etc. posting will be against the rules, and will be treated as usual.

Only general Pokémon clubs belong in Pokémon General.
Who would've thought? In any case, if you've got a thread that's theme revolves around the games, the anime, the TCG, etc., please create them in their respective forums. If you post a club here that doesn't belong, your thread may be moved to a more appropriate section without warning, so be careful where you post!

Where can I find a list of clubs to join?
If you're looking for a simple club directory, check the post below! There's a complete list of all the currently active clubs, as well as each of their owners. Or if you're looking for an alternative list, click here to see Pokémon General filtered by club threads only.
