Alright, I'm going to abandon my current challenge and begin a new one. Username: Thebeast21799, Single or Ultimate: Ultimate, Type: Water, Game(s): Blue, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and Black 2. Planned Team:Cloyster, Lapras, Slowbrp, and Starmie. Why no Blastoise? Because these are the water types of red and blue's OU Tier according to smogon, and I wanted to go through this challenge using only OU pokemon according to gen and smogon's Tier placement, and Blastoise is UU on smogon's Tier list.

Final monowater update. Beat Iris (blegh) and beat the game!

- Trained the team to Level 60-somethings in the tall grass near the league. Parivir ended up going the highest, reaching Level 70, with Vonne in second at Level 69 (HA!)

- Parivir ended up becoming much more useful after I went back and got him the Eviolite.

- Went for the league. First match: Shauntal

- When it came to Shauntal's Ghost Pokemon, I had no specific advantage or disadvantage, except for Shuriken's Psychic typing, but I didn't use him in the fight. Instead, I relied on a combination of Parivir and Weasley to win the fight.

- Next Match: Marshal. His Fighting Pokemon kept me from using Fatso, but the biggest help was Vonne and, of course, Shuriken. Most of his team was demolished with Shuriken's Psychic, but when he was wiped out due to a weak defense, Vonne stepped in and helped out.

- Next Match: Grimsley. His dark types kept Shuriken out of the fight, and since I had no specific advantages or disadvantages again, I went with the Weasley-Parivir combo. Although Fatso and Raid did step in once or twice.

- Next Match: Caitlin. Her Psychics were dealt with the same way as Shauntal and Grimsley's Pokemon. This time, though, every member of my team got a turn, though Weasley and Parivir did most of the work.

- Finally, I reached the Champion Iris. Fatso was an obvious lead choice here, with three of his moves being Ice-typed, so I went in. Iris's first couple of Pokemon (Hydreigon and Druddigon) did a number on Fatso before he wiped them out with Ice Beam.

- Then, enter the Lapras. Lapras was basically a defensive wall against all my water types and it took their collective force to beat it up.

- Archeops was easily brought down thanks to his weakness to my water attacks.

- Aggron seemed menacing at first, but Parivir was able to take it out with one swift Surf because of its rock-typing. Phew!

- Finally, Haxorus entered the seen. Iris's signature Pokemon attacked first almost wiping out Fatso before an Ice Beam was launched. Crit hit! Then... Focus Sash. With his last move, Haxorus destroyed Fatso, but I sent out Weasley who, being faster than Haxorus, should've been able to finish him off. Obviously, Haxorus got a Max Potion. Weasley was quickly killed, so my last hope was Raid, the last Pokemon in my party with an Ice-type attack.

- Raid's Ice Beam got Haxorus back down to 1 HP, and the vile creature went in for the kill. Although it beat Raid, I sent out one final Pokemon, Shuriken, and finished him off once and for all.

- The Dragon was slain... as was the princess, I suppose. I had won! Finally, after the battle, Parivir had gained a level and wished to evolve. Since he had done so much for me, and since I had beaten the game anyway, I granted his wish.

- Challenge completed! Fun playin, y'all! :D

I know it's been a bit too long since I posted but my emulator was giving me crud so I had to restart on my DS. Anyway here it goes. I finished training Zubat and Gastly to lvl 13 so at least Zubat could fight Falkner (as opposed to lvl 28 for Gastly). I then fought Falkner and defeated Falkner (Zubat had 1 HP left). Then I went south through the Union Cave and upon reaching Azalea I entered Ilex Forest and caught an Oddish. Now training Oddish and getting rid of Team Rocket at the Same time.

I went back to Olivine and brought the medicine to Jasmine and fought her. Even though her Magnemite and Steelix were higher leveled then me I beat her with my Feraligatr's dig
After I got the Mineral badge I went to Route 42 and Mt. Mortar, and stopped all of Team Rockets shenanigans, and then I fought Pryce which was very easy, since I just spammed my Polibo's Focus Punch.

Alright, so in recent news, I've been more or less rushing through the game, all the while grinding my ass off sped-up emulator style. I bought myself a Pinsir at the Game Corner, because the Safari Zone was proving itself a real *****.
Sabrina was fun. Parasect put her first Pokémon to sleep, which gave Beedrill enough time to set up an Agility and a Swords Dance and then proceed to sweep with Twineedle.
Koga was easy enough, but a bit more difficult. I honestly don't really remember there being any other strategy that Butterfree using Psychic, but it fainted at one point. I think. Or maybe that was Parasect?
Blaine was a hilarious match. Parasect sweeped his entire team with Dig - Rapidash and Arcanine had terrible luck with their accuracy, and Parasect survived two Fire Spins.
Giovanni was Parasect's and Butterfree's match. Parasect would use Spore + SolarBeam against his first couple of Pokémon, and Butterfree would use Sleep Powder and Psychic against the Nidos.

I'm off to the Pokémon League!

Current team:
Spoiler:

Beedrill, lv. 52
- Twineedle
- Agility
- Swift
- Swords Dance

Parasect, lv. 54
- Slash
- Spore
- SolarBeam
- Dig

Butterfree, lv. 53
- Supersonic
- Sleep Powder
- Psychic
- Stun Spore

Pinsir, lv. 52
- Slash
- Submission
- Seismic Toss
- Strength

CHALLENGE COMPLETE!
Spoiler:

Blasted through it by now. Here's a breakdown of the league battles:

Spoiler:
Lorelei was meh. I sent out Pinsir, who didn't manage to OHKO Dewgong with a Submission and was then severely dented by an Ice Beam. After Dewgong used Rest, though, I was able to set up two Swords Dances and sweep the rest with Submission or Slash. Slowbro was a 2HKO, though, and Slash turned critical all - the - ****ing - time. It was beautiful.

Bruno was fairly easy. Parasect used Spore + SolarBeam against his two Onix, and Butterfree used Sleep Powder + Psychic or just Psychic against his Fighting 'mons. Machamp was a 2HKO.

Agatha was a wee bit difficult, but I didn't really have a strategy, either. I sent out Butterfree first, who managed to put Gengar to sleep and get a critical Psychic. Then, Butterfree continued to spam Psychic for a bit, and I think at one point, I had Beedrill out against Arbok. I'm not even sure how I won that match, but I won.

I wouldn't say that Lance was a joke as much as I'd say that Pinsir is a goddamn beast. First up, Butterfree paralyzed his Gyarados, which allowed Pinsir to set up a +6 attack boost, chug a Full Restore and then go to town. Dragonite was a 2HKO, but nothing Pinsir couldn't handle.

I used the same strategy against Blue - more or less. Parasect managed to put Pidgeot to sleep at the beginning of the match, and then Pinsir was able to set up a +6 attack boost. In the end, Pinsir barely survived with only a few HP left - most of them lost to recoil damage, but he also took a Blizzard to the face at the end of the match, because Blastoise was a rare 2HKO.

And here's my final team:

Spoiler:

Parasect, lv. 62
- Slash
- Spore
- SolarBeam
- Dig

I've always like Parasect. Design-wise, if nothing else - I mean, it's basically a zombie, how cool is that? Anyway, Parasect and its mighty Spore proved - as always - hella useful, and Dig provided great and much needed coverage.

Butterfree, lv. 63
- Supersonic
- Sleep Powder
- Psychic
- Stun Spore

Butterfree played the role, Butterfree plays best. And it did a good job at it. Great special attacker - limited coverage, sure, but pretty great nonetheless.

Beedrill, lv. 62
- Twineedle
- Agility
- Swift
- Swords Dance

Beedrill was underwhelming. It did carry the only STAB move representing the challenge, so I felt like I needed Beedrill. And sure, it did prove very useful from time to time, but in one word, Beedrill was still a bit - well - underwhelming.

Pinsir, lv. 64
- Slash
- Submission
- Swords Dance
- Strength

I don't even know what to say. Pinsir, you're a God amongst bugs and a true beast.

This was a tiring challenge, mostly because - and I'm not proud of admitting this - I think I'm tired of the Gen I games. The graphics and the slow pace, (unless the space bar was pressed, but then things moved too fast for the eye to follow at all) I dunno, I just can't do that these days. I'm accustomed to something a bit more shiny, I'm sorry to say - which is why my next challenge will be finishing up my Grass UMC, going with Pokémon White!

I also have a question. If I use a hack of fire red that lets me catch all the 386 pokemon, can I use it and catch pokemon not available in fire red?

Well, here it is. The next two legs of my ultimate grass monotype: Hoenn and Sinnoh. I'm particularly excited for these two; I've actually done a solo with a grass-type before in them (well, almost did with Sinnoh before I lost my file). Also, my team in Hoenn will all be of different dual-types! ^-^ Anyways, let's get these started with a rather hefty update #1:

Hoenn (Emerald) - 2 Badges
Spoiler:
  • As always, I fiddled with the options and put the game in Set style.
  • Chose Treecko and named her Willow.
  • Got to Level 7 and defeated May.
  • After quite a bit of searching (and accidental leveling), I caught a lotad on Route 102 and named him Cypress.
  • Reached Petalburg City and did the Wally tutorial.
  • Surprisingly found a shroomish relatively quickly in Petalburg Woods. Caught it and named him Poplar. Already, the party's half-full! I'll be stuck with just these three until after Flannery, though.
  • Reached Rustboro City with little problem. Picked up Cut before I realized I should've caught a zigzagoon earlier. >_<
  • Cleared Route 116 (also, Cypress evolved into a lombre) before returning to Rustboro to take on the gym.
  • I overestimated Roxanne, based on past experience (I once lost with a level 19 treecko). The AI seemed to be merciful in this battle (not spamming Rock Tomb). I also got lucky that Willow's Absorb didn't OHKO her two geodude (surprisingly), forcing her to waste both potions on them. So without a potion and because she chose to use Tackle and Harden at weird times, Willow was able to take down Roxanne's team by herself and evolve into a grovyle. And so we got our first badge, the Stone Badge! ^-^

  • We easily beat the Team Aqua member in Rusturf Tunnel and save Peeko.
  • Picked up Steven's Letter and the Devon Goods to begin our delivery job. But not before running into May again. We decided to battle her. Cypress took care of Wingull well enough, but also activated Torchic's Blaze. That's not good. Torchic took down Cypress, and I sent out Poplar. Unfortunately, Tackle was not quiiite enough to defeat it, and he fell to a single, Blaze-boosted, critical-hitting Ember (I blame Focus Energy). That means Willow steals all the experience. D: Fine, I guess.
  • With Mr. Briney's help, we made land in Dewford Town. I forget what the trendy saying was though. :/
  • We decided to deliver the letter to Steven first, so we felt our way through the murky Granite Cave without Flash.
  • I chose not to go on to Slateport for additional training before facing the Dewford Gym, just for a change of pace, I guess. Also, the additional challenge is fun. Maybe I should've gone, though. Brawly took three tries to defeat. In our first battle, Machop was very crit-happy. In the second battle, I lead with Poplar instead of Cypress, which was a bad decision (I planned to save Poplar for Makuhita).

Finally, the third battle. Leading with Willow wasn't a horrible choice, I guess. She beat Machop and healed off the damage spamming Absorb against Meditite. Towards the end, I started setting up Fury Cutter so that Makuhita would receive the strong hits, despite resistance. By the time Makuhita came out, I think he already used up his Super Potions, so Willow did some good damage against it before falling in battle. I think I sent out Poplar and got off a Leech Seed on Makuhita. I don't remember if Poplar fainted in this battle and Cypress finished it or not, but whichever it was, we finally got our hard-earned Knuckle Badge! ^-^

  • Onwards to Slateport! We crossed the beach into the city, and we defeated the Team Aqua grunts harassing Capt. Stern.
  • We cleared Route 110, 103, and the Trick House. Oh, and May. This is usually the toughest May/Brendan battle for me, but this one went pretty well. Willow beat her wingull and did a bit of damage against Combusken before she fainted. I think Poplar got off a Leech Seed then switched out for Cypress, who did the rest. Her lotad was not a problem.
  • Mauville City! Wally was very easy; just a single Pursuit, and the battle was over. We defeat all trainers in all directions (also, Poplar evolved into a breloom). I think Cypress soloed the Winstrates. We also checked out Verdanturf and the other entrance of Rusturf Tunnel. Anyways, I left off right in front of Mauville Gym. So next time, the gym!

Spoiler:
  • Put the game in Set style.
  • Of course, I chose Turtwig for this challenge. We easily defeat the rival, who only used Leer, oddly. =P
  • Did all the beginning stuff, like the tutorial and whatnot. I also stupidly pressed "B" when asked to nickname TURTWIG. >_< Ah well, I'll change it in Eterna. Well, we eventually reached Jubilife.
  • Caught a budew after a while of searching the grass north of Jubilife, and I named her Starf.
  • Went back and talked to Barry at the Trainers' School. Then, we went on eastwards and engaged him in a battle. I don't remember my strategy here, but it was a simple battle anyways.
  • We clear the route, pass through Oreburgh Gate, and find Roark in the mine, sending him back to his gym. I also caught a geodude somewhere, so that we can use Rock Smash later.
  • Oreburgh Gym, yet another Rock-type gym. Again, geodude are everywhere. I'm glad Sturdy doesn't work as in Gen V. Roark's Geodude and Onix were easily taken care of with TURTWIG's Razor Leaf. I think I used Withdraw at one point, in order to prepare for Cranidos. And then Cranidos came out... wasn't much of a problem, actually. The main thing I worried about here was its killer Attack stat and the flinch from Headbutt. But I think two shots of Razor Leaf finished the job, earning us the Coal Badge! ^-^

  • Back in Jubilife, two noobish Galactic Grunts are "bullying" Professor Rowan and Dawn. I think it's really Rowan who's doing the bullying. Anyways, in a double battle alongside Dawn's piplup, the battle was easily won. So they flee.
  • We pass through Floaroma Town and visit one of my favorite locations in any of the main series games: Valley Windworks. We beat the grunt there, but he locks himself in, so we return to Floaroma to get a key from the grunts in the meadow. The grunts are easily taken care of, and we gain the ability to buy Honey! This is necessary for the third party member, so I slather some on the trees I have access to.
  • Meanwhile, we return to the Valley Windworks, and at the end, take on Commander Mars. My strategy is Curse, so I begin setting that up on her Zubat. Unfortunately, it has Toxic, which worries me. I take out Zubat, and Purugly comes out. I need to do as much damage as possible before poison takes its toll, so I begin attacking relentlessly. Fortunately, we get its HP down low enough for Starf to finish it off. Phew, crisis averted!
  • We head into Eterna Forest and accompany Cheryl. I don't defeat all the trainers yet, because I want to save some experience for the third party member. Speaking of which, this pokémon doesn't appear. Another problem, Starf is still a budew, so I've missed some nice moves, such as Leech Seed and Magical Leaf. I think I'm hurrying too much. :/ At least I got a grotle now.
  • Next batch of honey-slathering, our target has yet to appear. We see a burmy, but I'm not planning on training a wormadam. Maybe if this was Diamond or Pearl, I would.
  • I do a bunch of walking between Floaroma and Valley Windworks with the Step Counter app, just to raise Starf's friendship. When I decided that we walked enough, a quick level-up and a roselia! Yay! ^-^ (Also, this is one reason I'm not training a roselia in Emerald.)
  • The next batch of honey trees yield... a cherubi! I catch it, and I once again press "B" on the nickname screen. >_< What's with me!? We'll name him soon though.
  • After some training with Cheryl in Eterna Forest, we go on to the city. Finally, we get to change some names! GROTLE is renamed Salac (irony?) and CHERUBI is now Cheri. I clear the routes around the city, get Cut from Cynthia, and catch another budew to teach it Cut. Currently, we're standing just outside the gym.

Interesting that both grass starters are female. And from my experience, these are the two that are depicted as female most rarely.

Ok another update on my Soul Silver Poison type run. Having caught Oddish I trained my team to lvl 17 and managed a fairly easy win against Bugsy. (Zubat went hog wild with Wing Attack). I then faced off with my rival Orexus. My Zubat beat his Gastly with Bite. Then his Zubat tangled with my Gastly and my Gastly's Lick paralyzed it enough for Night Shade to finish it. Then Oddish beat his Bayleef with repeated Acid attacks. After I got through Ilex Forest I went north to the National Park for the Bug catching contest and caught a Venonat. Then came Whitney... I love to hate her. I sent out Venonat (lvl 19 by this point) against Clefairy. Venonat got Poison Powder off before Clefairy used Metronome which came out as Blast Burn. Venonat had 9 hp after that (thank the Poké gods for the recharge) I used a Super Potion. I then used Confusion it used mimic to learn Confusion. Then it nearly killed my Venonat with Rollout (bloody Metronome again) before my Venonat finished it off. Then came the Miltank. Long story short Oddish, Venonat, and Zubat got flattened by rollout. This left Gastly... I thought I was done for but a combo of Confuse Ray and the Poison Powder Venonat got off ended up killing it. I then went north trounced Sudowoodo causing Oddish to evolve into Gloom. I then passed through Ecruteak to grab the Good Rod at Olivine. I then made my way back to Route 32 and caught a Qwilfish. Then returned to Ecruteak and trounced my rival, Venonat Vs Gastly, Zubat Vs Qwilfish, Bayleef Vs Zubat. After beating my rival Zubat evolved into Golbat. I then caught a Koffing and got healed before training in the gym. After beating the Jr. Trainers there my Golbat leveled once before evolving again into Crobat. Now just training for Morty. I appologize for the super lengthy update this time.
