Due to a change of circumstance we are now Earthbender-less. We will be looking for a replacement shortly, if anyone is interested and wishes to apply please keep your eyes and ears open - don't start posting your applications just yet.

This is dead because we have a secret chatroom <_<

Alright, so, big announcement from us!

We are currently in need of an earthbender!
The one we had originally chosen was forced to drop out due to real-life stuff, so we're now looking for a new one Let's see those creative SUs come rolling in! Can you tell I'm excited? I'm excited.

I'll revamp my water bender sign up to turn her into an earthbender Will work on that tonight I have class soon.

edit. all done

Name: Adamina (also called Mina)
Element: Earth Additional weapon: dao sword

Appearance:

Adamina stands at 5 foot 3 inches average height for a girl her age and weighs 110 pounds. She is very petite with wide innocent looking eyes colored a subtle gray in color. Her hair is a dark chocolate brown in color and she keeps it up in a ponytail with some of it framing her face.

Adamina has a very petite body type, not much muscle at all. In fact she has little to no physical strength. Though she can still fight and defend herself if the need arises. For her clothing choices she dresses in an orange sleeveless shirt that splits at her waist that she wears over a yellow sleeveless shirt with a green sleeveless coat over it over that she wears a brown belt around her waist. The coat goes down to her ankles. For pants she wears a simple pair of black capri pants on her feet she wears green flats.

Personality:

Adamina is very kind and soft spoken person. She isn't known for speaking her mind but she prefers it that way. After all she is smart enough to realize that if she doesn't speak often of the important things when the time comes for her to give input people are more likely to listen to her. Aside from being very intelligent she cares deeply for the well being of others, be they human, animals or plants. She holds a deep understanding for life, though that is due to her upbringing. She was taught that all life is valuable and wants nothing more than to teach that to others.

Though just because she is kind doesn't mean she can't handle herself. She is strong in a fight never backing down, never giving up. She always tries her absolute hardest in everything she does. She is also very sneaky, due to her small size and general quietness she has developed a habit of sneaking up on those she considers friends. Not just to keep up her training but to test their awareness as well.

Adamina also cares deeply about her friends. She will stand by them no matter what, through any hardship loyal to a fault. After all if she cares enough about someone to always stand on their side no matter what, she hopes her loyalty has gained her the same thing.

Brief History:

Adamina was born and raised in a small farming community in the Earth Nation. Her parents sheltered her due to her soft spoken nature but taught her to value all life and taught her how to care for the farm. This peaceful life was disrupted when Adamina was taken to the Avatar training camp. She withdrew into herself at the camp, making only a few friends and focusing on her training. Though there was always a part of her that knew she was not the avatar. When she returned from the camp she noticed her parents treated her a little different. They weren't open to letting her stray to far from home anymore. Restricting her to the farm. A fact which was fine with her.

Years later Adamina was perfectly happy with her life. Getting up before sunrise, training with her bending, then helping her father with the chores and her mother with breakfast. After that it was back to chores then more training for the rest of the day. Soon enough things changed yet again. Her family received word from Republic City telling them they were losing their land since they couldn't keep up on the payments for it. That night Adamina left her home leaving a note for her parents. She was going to Republic City to earn money to save the farm.

Sample Role-play:

Adamina smiled to herself as she knelt on the ground looking at the large rice fields before her. She loved her families farm. The sunshine, the fresh air, the earth. It was home to her all she had ever known, and at five years old she wouldn't have it any other way. "Mina can you come here please!" she heard her mother call her. Getting up she dusted dirt off her knees and took off running.

"Yes mom?" Adamina chimed coming to a stop and freezing when she saw three strange men standing before her mother and father.

"Mina do you remember what we told you?" her father asked kneeling before her.

"t-that s-someday I'd have to go away for a bit." Adamina said quietly looking from her father to the men.

"yes Mina, that time has come you have to go with my friends here for awhile." her father hugged her and picked her up.

"But...I don't want to go, do I have to?" she whispered and her father hugged her tighter before she was passed to her mother.

"We don't want you to go either darling, but this will be good for you. It will help you with your earth bending." her mother said softly. "after all your father and I can't train you"

"b-but." Adamina said again as he rmother handed her to one of the men.

"Hello Adamina, I'm Shu I'll be the one training you at the camp" he said and Adamina sniffled as Shu started to talk to her, distracting her as the left her home. Leaving the farm and her parents behind.

Nice SU Swifty and I'll wait 'till we have at least a couple of people to choose between, and until then, let's see your creativity and what characters you might have in store! This is just about which character we feel would fit the best, rather than first-come first-serve

Hey there! :D I've been lead to believe that there's an open spot for the position of Earthbender! Well, in that case, please consider my SU here. One for a boy, one for a girl. They are mostly the same, one with a few minor differences to fit their gender. I'd love to know, which you prefer :)

Name:
Brent J. Oswald

Gender:
Male

Element:
Earth

Spoiler:
Additional weapon:
Brent can bend the earth to create a bulky, "rock solid" defensive layer on his body (arms or legs, for example), as a means of protection. For offensive purposes this technique can also be used to enhance his ability to efficiently deal with most opposition by letting the rock engulf his fists or feet/shins. Even the thought of such an uppercut makes one want to rub his jaw. However, focus is essential for this technique to work properly. And the more the heavier. The more rock actively shaped, the level of required concentration will increase. Also, the weight of the rock will hinder Brent's mobility and speed considerably when applied.

Appearance:
As a young adult, Brent has reached the peak of his growth with a none too impressive 5'6'' in height. To compensate for this, however, his body is in fine shape and is very obviously, due to its "bulky" figure, accustomed to hard work, heavy lifting and physical activities in general. His skin is visibly used to endure long-lasting sun exposure as it has obtained a healthy tan which goes well with his dark brown and frizzy hair which is, more often than not, tied up in a knot on the back of his head. The sparse hair on his chin manages to prolong his otherwise somewhat broad face with a pointy, albeit short and scruffy beard, whilst the rest of his face is kept either clean shaved or at least not too fuzzy. Nose and ears and mouth alike aren't worth of any particular notice, but within his eyes, the iris hold a dark and mushy green which hardly seems to reflect any light at all, resulting in that calm, collected, unworried feel to them.

His choice of clothing varies but it would not be out of the ordinary to see him wearing his old, battered, green coat with bright yellow trim along the edges and with soft linen cloth as a collar covering the backside of his neck. To keep the coat in place, Brent keeps a worn out scarf tied around his waist. Depending on the weather, the black tank-top underneath the coat might see the light, but it rarely happens without the temperature peaking. For his legs, Ryel relies on a simple pair of cotton trousers to be do the trick. Clothes may change to better suit the specific situation, but you will almost always see him barefooted in a pair of wooden sandals.
(Gonna throw in a link somewhere at some point to give you an idea of the clothes - it wouldn't accept the post if it contained the a link yet.)

Personality:
Raised in the belief that hard work pays off and that ambition is worth nothing without the will to fulfill it, Brent is very dedicated to doing his absolute best in the majority of what he does. Despite being a productive soul with potential for getting somewhere grand in life, Brent might just sometimes find himself to be the victim of his own lack of ambition to match his self-proclaimed obligation to doing everything a hundred and ten percent.
Never having been the boss of anything, this young man is most comfortable with following rather than leading and he will rarely seek out a conflict as long as it can be avoided without too severe consequences. He would much rather just get along, really. Takes a lot to tick him off, but he has some issues with sexism. A direct approach to pretty much any girl unfamiliar to him makes him somewhat insecure of the situation, but he holds enough respect towards them to not stand idly by if they are in trouble. (The same counts for guys in trouble, but that is not as difficult for Brent to talk himself into.)

Brief History:
Born and raised in the humble surroundings of Clayton, a small indifferent village a good 40 miles away from Republic City, Brent has worked the mining shafts at the foot the mountains nearby for the past 5 years with his father and other earthbenders. Their sole priority here was to make a decent living and thus Brent has been left with an immense gratitude for most of what he has and he is not quite the type to ask for more. He never visited the Republic City or any other grand cities before, the massive scale of it would be enough to make him dizzy, as the furthest and longest he's ever been away from home was at the Avatar Camp so many years ago.

Upon his return from camp at the age of 6, his parents didn't make too big of a deal out of it. Seeing as Brent returned without the status of Avatar there was no reason to further dwell on the matter. There was work to be done, see? The life in Clayton was a busy one, a tough one but also a most rewarding one. Not in the manner of coin or luxury (on the contrary) but in the form of the hard earned self satisfactory that spouts from physical labor.

His childhood was self-explanatorily based around playing with the other kids. Brawling, hide and seek, boulder-ball, you name it! The majority of his friends, however, grew increasingly violent as their attention was turned to the Pro-Bending matches being broadcasted over the radio. They would all gather to listen to the electrified sound of the roaring crowd, the speakers jumping in their seats out of excitement and making small bets on the outcomes. Brent, as one of the only kids there, failed to take an interest in the games. He spent most his time preparing for work, doing chores at home and resting. Bending was meant for practical use, not combat-orientated entertainment. Or so he was brought up to believe, by his father, who often referred to the so-called "sport" as a waste of proper resources.

As years passed, the young earthbender was more or less excluded by his childhood friends' community, but he did not despair. He found his peers in the mine. The hard-working men, the boys' fathers and his father's friends. The labor kept his mind off of things and gave him some feeling of comfort. He wasn't the odd one out anymore. He was a contributor. To this date, this has been what keeps Gaea occupied in the village. Chores have become more and more extensive, as her father and mother are getting older and there has even been talk about her taking the motor cycle into town for the first time sometime soon to look for favorable prices on some repair tools.

Sample Roleplay:
The sunset over the ocean that evening was amazing. It shed a magnificent golden aura over the otherwise dim Avatar Training Camp, partially abandoned at this hour. If ever this unfocused five year old had been able to comprehend such a concept as beauty, even on an unconscious level, this would be the moment of his realization. The training for today had come to an early conclusion and Brent for one was still filled to the brim with energy. The ability to shape rocks had come naturally to him during training and so he thought to use it. For nearly half an hour Brent picked up small pieces of rock and clay from the training grounds. When he had found the right ones he put pressure on the stone with his index finger, watching in sincere joy as the stone started to bend inwards and curve under his light touch, eventually forming little soldiers of earth who wielded tiny clubs and shields for the epic battle between the two factions. A few minutes into the act the war ended rather anticlimactically as stone proved more solid than clay when they met in head on collision.

Just as this playful child was reassembling the soldiers in preparation for the rematch a deep voice said calmly from behind him; "Who do you reckon would win this war, young Oswald?"

"It's gotta be the stone king!", the kid boasted, swinging his arms in the air, eagerly mimicking a swordfight as he continued, "He's much tougher than the clay champion. Doesn't break as easily, see?"

The old tutor chuckled heartily as he replied; "Which is the strongest element?"
Brent turned around, meeting the bender's calm gaze with a puzzled expression; "Aren't they all strong?"

"Ohoo, but is earth not the toughest of them all?" the elder kept on. "Does solid rock not just deflect water, air and fire alike?"

"I.. oh... erhm...", the kid looked confused as ever, pondering this new wisdom, making little more of it than nonsense. "I guess.", he eventually mustered. The elderly shook his head with a grin to differ.

The sun sank into the ocean long before the young pupil and his tutor had finished their one-way conversation/one-way confusion and when time came that Brent could no longer keep his eyes open, he was carried to his room and tugged in. Waking up back in the village, 13 years later, he had found meaning in the old man's wisdom. Equality and balance amongst the elements... and that rock undeniably is tougher than clay.

Name:
Gaea J. Morrits

Gender:
Female

Element:
Earth

Spoiler:
Additional weapon:
Gaea can bend the earth to create a bulky, "rock solid" defensive layer on her body (arms or legs, for example), as a means of protection. For offensive purposes this technique can also be used to enhance her ability to efficiently deal with most opposition by letting the rock engulf her fists or feet/shins. Even the thought of such an uppercut makes one want to rub his jaw. However, focus is essential for this technique to work properly. And the more the heavier. The more rock actively shaped, the level of required concentration will increase. Also, the weight of the rock will hinder Gaea's mobility and speed considerably when applied.

Appearance:
As a young woman, Gaea's height of 5'6" is fairly average. No cause for anyone to quirk a brow. What you'll notice, however, is that she stands out from most girls her age when you glimpse at her figure. She is by no extend of the imagination a skinny girl, nor would anyone accuse her of being chubby. As a result of many years' hard, physical labor, Gaea has developed a slim muscle structure unlike most girls'. Without being very big or bulky, there is still no doubt that when the need arises she's not shy of doing the heavy lifting.

Slightly tanned skin reveals having been exposed not only working underground in the mines. Daily chores, repairs and mining preparations in the outdoors have given her skin complexion a healthy, light brown glow which, personally, she adores. Another very dear thing to Gaea is her hair. Chestnut brown and shoulder long, she usually keeps it hanging loosely over her neck in a sort of "controlled chaos"-manner, but when she's bound for work she ties it in a knot on the back of her head to avoid getting it messed up.

Gaea's face is relatively smooth from what you would expect of an experienced miner. Only a few, minor scars just underneath her hairline witness of the bruises she's endured. Other than that, you would ever guess her line of work from looking at her face. The slim bridge of her round-tipped nose. Her distinctive cheekbones underneath her calm, dark green eyes and the quirky smile upon her lips. All in all it makes a rather nice looking frame for this none too girly girl.

Her choice of clothing tends to be more practical than fancy back home. A black tank-top, usually covered by a loose, sleeveless shirt on the torso, puffy cotton trousers and a pair of sturdy boots. Seeing as Gaea was soon to be off to head city, however, her mother had insisted that she ought to dress herself more like a lady. For this purpose, her mother and some of the other women in the village had found their old sewing kits and had, a month prior to her departure, begun working on a new more lady-like attire.
The result: A long, slim shirt in a bright, natural green and with close to golden trim around the edges. A tall collar, open in the front and with bare shoulders and short sleeve. She carries a broad belt in light leather around her waist, which is held closed by a rather large, copper buckle. Below the waistline, the shirt opens up in both sides and continues down to her knees. Her trousers are soft, black cotton and reach down to her feet, which are comfortable in a pair of leather strap sandals.
Naturally, her outfit would change with the seasons, but for now, this is what it's going to be.

Personality:
Raised in the belief that hard work pays off and that ambition is worth nothing without the will to fulfill it, Gaea is very dedicated to doing her absolute best in the majority of what she does. Despite being a productive soul with potential for getting somewhere grand in life, Gaea might just sometimes find herself to be the victim of her own lack of ambition to match her self-proclaimed obligation to doing everything a hundred and ten percent.
Never having been the boss of anything, this young woman is most comfortable with following rather than leading and she will rarely seek out a conflict as long as it can be avoided without too severe consequences. She would much rather just get along, really. It takes a lot to tick her off, but she has some issues with sexism. Since Gaea has never considered women to be a "weak" gender in any shape or form it really grinds her gears when the stereotype-preaching chauvinists start yapping. Other than that though, you will have a hard time making her go postal.

Brief History:
Born and raised in the humble surroundings of Clayton, a small indifferent village a good 40 miles away from Republic City, Gaea has worked the mining shafts at the foot the mountains nearby for the past 5 years with her father and other earthbenders. Bending was meant for practical use, not combat-orientated entertainment. Almost done with my SU guys, but I wanted to shoot a quick question: I seem to remember reading something about being allowed animals but can't find it with a quick search. Am I loosing my mind or did I just fail to see it on my second look through?

Nope, it's totally allowed! I basically went 'If you can think of some kind of animal that would be in an Avatarverse and you think you can RP it good enough, you're free to make yourself a pet companion', which obviously can either be a small one like Momo or Pabu, or a larger one, like a polarbeardog, etc.

Name: Roak (Roll the “r” & rhymes with soak) Shi (she)

Element: Earth

Additional weapon: A pair of one-handed fighting hammers occasionally supplemented with a spontaneously crafted stone arm covering and a pouch of various stones.

Appearance: Standing just a hair shy of six feet tall, the young earthbender’s height is notable but not terribly impressive, however his broad, stocky, build is accentuated by layers of thick muscle from spending his teen years mining, giving him a thick, rooted appearance. The forelocks of his ropy, shoulder length hair are often pulled back into a simple tail that starts at the back of the crown of his head and lays atop his the rest of his unbound hair. Roak’s eyes are the light grey of chips of flint but hold a quiet warmth. Water tribe heritage is evident in his high cheekbones and somewhat naturally darkened skin tone, although the latter is rarely noticed by those that do not know about his extensive experience in underground mines. Roak intends to keep his face clean shaven but life often gets in the way so he can often be seen sporting a bit of stubble and small triangle of hair just below his lower lip that is prone to disappear whenever he remembers to shave.

Roak’s choice in clothing reflects his upbringing in a rural Earth Kingdom village: loose fitting, dark brown pants and several green and brown wrist bands covered in geometric patterns are year-round staples. During summer his feet are bare and his torso is covered by a sleeveless, dark green, gi top with yellow trim while spring and autumn sees the addition of a long sleeve undershirt the same color as the pants as well as thin soled sandals. Winter usually sees him garbed in a wolfbear fur-lined coat, boots, and gloves. When traveling Roak carries a canvas rucksack with his year-round clothing as well as a sleeping bag and supplies, but when settled in somewhere he usually only has his coin purse, his fighting hammers, and whatever book he’s currently reading.

Personality: Coming from a relatively isolationist earthbender village, Roak was raised with a very traditionalist mindset. This makes him very respectful of elders and gives him a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude, in addition to making his bending techniques more resemble the martial forms than the quicker probending styles. This has changed somewhat since he left the village he was raised in to get a feel for the wider world, giving him something of a sense of skepticism towards traditions he hasn’t grown up with but he’s yet to apply that outlook toward his own belief systems. Overall Roak is an easygoing young man with an easy smile never far away but he’s much more likely to be found listening than talking, at least until he’s among friends or knows for certain that he’s the most informed on a subject. With that being said, once he’s been pushed to the limits of his tolerance he’s not afraid to say things that others don’t want to hear, and unfortunately for most people, he’s very good at picking out exactly what that is.

Despite the passage of time, his traditionalist upbringing instilled a bit of a prejudice against the (former?) Fire Nation and to a lesser extent, firebenders in general. He isn’t greatly aware of it, and hasn’t been exposed to anyone who would correct his outlook so to him it’s completely normal. Eventually someone will probably change that.

Brief History: Roak was raised in a small Earth Kingdom mining village with decidedly isolationist ideals. The village itself was located in a valley that more learned individuals might claim was the result of a meteor impact. Earthbender traditionalists saw this as an ideal location to build a village able to be literally sealed off from most of the outside world and their “contaminating influences.” In this environment Roak should have grown up not knowing a great deal about the outside world but the appearance of Republic City officials to collect him interrupted that plan. Roak’s parents and most of the community strongly protested taking one of their own and it would have come to blows had the Republic City officials not been benders skilled in their various arts. In the end, the boy had weathered his time in the camp like many others but his truly testing experiences didn’t begin until he returned.

His family and close friends had been happy to see him returned safely and welcomed him back into the community with open arms right up until he started giving voice to ideas that were frowned upon by his village. For ten years nothing severe came of this aside from mild social isolation and the intense disapproval of many of the elders, however in Roak’s sixteenth year one of the few trading caravans allowed in brought with them a small collection of new books, a few of which Roak was more than happy to acquire in exchange for a bit of gold he himself pulled from the earth. Soon thereafter he was known to spout ideals not from the village and once his collection was found as well as some of his own writings, many in the village strongly suggested that he go out and see the world himself, not to return until he had learned the error of dealing with the outsiders, especially his notions of “metal bending”. Since then he’s wandered most of the northwestern Earth Kingdom, eventually deciding to see Republic City.

Animal/Pet: During his travels Roak met a variety of interesting creatures, however none left quite the same impact as the saber-tooth moose lion cub he stumbled upon. The poor thing had appeared nearly starved, curled up in a ball in what appeared to be its family’s den. The happy hunter’s Roak had encountered in a nearby village gave him enough information that he knew no parents were coming back for the cub. He spent several weeks nurturing it back to health and by the time it was able to leave him, neither of them wanted to part so Maru has been with him ever since, although he’s grown considerably larger.

Sample Roleplay: “Roak! ROAK! Away from him!” the voice echoed across the small training field. Young Roak, already showing the beginnings of what would turn out to be a sturdy build, turned toward the angry voice of one of the bending trainers. Feo-Lin was one of the earth/metalbending trainers, towering above his charges with an understanding but unyielding voice, and his determined stride was bringing him right to Roak and the young firebender whose eye he’d likely just blackened.

“What do you think you’re doing? We only hit one another during practice, and even then we only do it with padding! Well? Explain yourself!” Roak’s gap-toothed, self-satisfied smile fell into a scowl of confusion as he looked between his instructor and the boy sitting on the ground beginning to cry.

“He’s a Fire Nation! They’re the bad guys! …Aren’t they?” he said, somewhat hesitantly as he saw confusion and sadness sweep across his mentor’s face.

Feo-Lin motioned for one of the other aids to tend to the crying boy as he knelt down to be on eyelevel with his violent young charge, “Roak, that might have been true a long, long time ago but now… now he’s just someone else, just another little boy like you. Probably missing home and trying to make it until the Avatar is found.” Seeing the boy’s uncertainty, he reached down to the ground to pick up some loose stones and sand. “Look, see how these look different from one-another?”

Roak nodded. Foe-Lin threw them up into the air and in one fluid motion rose into a striking stance, thrust forward his fist in a strike, and sent the bits of earth flying into one of the target dummies ten yards away. “They’re different, but the same. Do you understand?”

Roak blinked, his tongue exploring one of the fairly recent gaps made by his disappearing baby teeth, following the bending display. “Y-yeah. They’re not the same but it doesn’t matter!” He

paused at that and slowly said “Like that Fire Nation kid…”

“Like that firebender,” Feo-Lin corrected gently, “Yes, exactly. Now, let me show you how to use these different things together…” he said as he steered the child towards a small field of stones, no two of the same type or size.

Aaaaaaaaand
Done!

Also: I'm willing to edit to female if that's the preference from the mods/GMs.

Alright, so, announcement time!

We have, officially, picked our earthbender RP'er. And the spot goes to Lumbah! All three of you made really nice SUs, but we feel Lumbah's character fits better with the synergy of the group. Sorry to Genevieve and Crush for not getting in, despite your very interesting characters and nice backstory. I wish we could take more in, but alas

So, grats to Lumbah and an apology to the others. Save the SU though, we might need you later down the line, in case something happens
