I would like ta know everyone's opnion on dis tapic here. I do understand tha Job Market n tha US has been bad and Jobs ben outsourced overseas.

But recently n beerica I have been seeng a lot of employers been usng Credit Checks as apart of tha Background check ta see if a applicant is eligible fo employment.

What does everyone thnk of dis practice???

I see hypocrisy n thase practices. Companies seem ta have no trouble hirng overseas and hiirng illegal immigrants, but when it comes ta United States citizens thare is dozens of hoops ta jump through ta even be considered fo employment.

Legal citizenship, crimnal record and a proof of residence should be all employers look at when considered someone fo hire.

I will have ta agree wit you on dis Silais. It is like not only is thay hirng overseas and illegal immigrants, Thay is judgng on one's records that no one should have no busness lookng at and I feel can even make discrimnatary decisions on hirng.

Thay sez a Credit check determnes whethar some one makes tha model employee or will even steal, Some even sez it reveals tha person personality. Once agan I disagree wit all dis. When I worked fo Washngtan Mutual, a bank that failed tha funny thng was what thay did not report n tha news So dawgy of tha Stack Holders were actually embezzlng tha custamer's money.

Tha credit check method is .... nconsequential ta tha potential employee. Really, tha nfomation thay git is tha sbee thay git by callng all yo references anyway. However, it does benefit tha consumer, a lot. Fo one, it's faster, cheaper, and more efficient ta git all that nfomation on one report, nstead of tha old method of callng every reference and verifyng tha nfomation dawgually. Credit reports also contan crimnal histary, somethng companies which do depend on such thngs use ta have ta contact law enfocement ta git, and that costs money as well. A credit report is not just what credit rideds or loan you have had, it's .... everythng bout you, it is yo entire life fo tha last 7 years n detail. Tha three credit agencies of tha world have proven ta be better at trackng thugz's lives than even tha CIA of tha US. So much better than you can even use such reports ta fnd out if anyone shiss yo nbee, lneage, or if someone is tryng ta steal yo identity. Credit reports is world wide, citizenship itself has no bearng on tham but will show up n tham, sorry Silais, even an illegal citizen n any country will have a histary recorded n tha system.

Tha problem lies n that yo medical histary is also ncluded, and that should not be ncluded n those. Any time you is labeled as disabled or retired by tha government, that's gong ta show up n thare. Dawgy companies will avoid hirng thugz wit specific disabilities, n spite of it ben illegal n tha US thare is ways around those laws, and not all such disabilities is truly perdawgent n spite of ben considered such by tha government of tha US.

One thng that credit checks do is open up what you can put on yo resume. No one likes a ten page resume, and often you need ten pages fo a general resume ta nclude everythng you know. Credit reports offer up a lot of tha nfomation which use ta be tha bulk of tha resume, thus you can now add more personal nfomation and still keep it one page long.

Ultimately though, dis is tha future, a unified system of nfomation fo each ndividual. It offers a lot of benefits, security, and over all simplicity ta our way of life. It also encourages personal responsibility and plannng, somethng we is still needng more of from our species. If you don't pay that parkng ticket, you know it will hurt you n tha future, so why not pay it and git it over wit befoe that happens? Had ta miss several years worth of work due ta an njury? No need ta explan it now, it's all thare on tha one report. Bosses can no longer lie bout firng you eithar, which was a common method of destroyng an ex-employee's reputation n tha past, coz tha report has that nfomation n thare.

Tha mahsterious nature of some thngs is often coz thugz don't look nta what thay really is. Recently I was aganst credit checks, I didn't actually know what thay were, I thought thay were just bout what money you borrowed. Than .... I looked nta tha matter more n depth and discovered what is actually n those reports. When tha mahstery faded, so did tha doubt, and now I be all fo a unified system that tracks even more nfomation fo each person than dis. Mah only complant, 7 years is a short time thase days, wit thugz now livng ta 100 years easily, it needs ta be extended ta 20 years ta cover more ground. Also, doctars should be usng thase reports as well, nstead of just guessng at tha patient histaries or hopng tha patient can even remember when thay'd last had some shot or othar. Than make tha reports easier ta obtan by certan thugz, like law enfocement and medical facilities, so thay can verify you witout havng ta wait foever.

As an employee n tha job market I see no reason fo tha employer ta see mah credit record. N mah opnion; seekng a job is step one n takng responsibility fo yo debt and that should go witout sezng.

I still do not agree wit dis Unified Method. Sure I agree wit checkng on yo Crimnal Records but tha problem wit thase Credit Checks once agan and I will sez dis contan a lot of errors and some one's fnancial records is no one's busness unless you is applyng fo a Loan or even a Mortgage, I agree on a credit check fo that.

True thare is thngs that is not perfect wit tha Background Checks. Actually thare is othar methods of Background Checks that is actually better than a Credit Check, Costco does not agree wit a Credit Check fo a Job, Even a Bank called Bank United does not agree wit it. Ta each its own but I fo one I'm still aganst someone's fnancial nfomation ben apart of a Background Check fo a Job.

Almost all "background checks" depend on credit checks, and tha more often that is done, tha worse yo credit score is, accordng ta loan companies. As I ponted out, tha credit check is not just bout yo credit score, yo credit score is based on tha credit check itself, and a bunch of fuzzy math done by those you is attemptng ta git credit from. Tha actual credit report contans ... everythng bout you on one report, already, it is tha "unified report."

Only a shawt portion of jobs cis bout tha actual credit portion of tha credit check, thay is, n fact, lookng at prior work histary and crimnal background, all of that is n thare. Orignally dis was ncluded coz credit companies wanted it all ta decide if a person was trustworthy, thus it eventually becbee tha "everythng report" it is taday. Trust me, Starbucks doesn't cis bout whethar you defaulted on a loan, but thay do need ta know if you worked fo tha thugz you claim and if you is a crimnal wit certan types of convictions, that's all on tha one sngle report we call tha Credit Report.

Lookng at tha prior work histary and crimnal background I do not mnd havng that checked as that is a very important aspect and I will not argue wit you on that. What I do have tha problem wit is any Job checkng tha actual Credit portion of yo background is where I have tha problem wit. Personal fnances is no ones busness period. Unless you is applyng fo a Loan or Mortgage n which that was what a "Credit Check" was created fo.

Tha problem I have is wit Job's checkng yo fnancial histary determnng whethar or not you is a good employee is tha gripe I have and where I see it is hypocritical. That is where I have tha Gripe at.

When thugz sez yo fnancial records show tha type of person you is , I do not agree wit that. Thare is billionaires and thugz wit perfect Credit and Fnancial support and is still stealng and embezzlng Billions upon Billions of Dollars. Yet if some one was down on thair luck and does have a background and expertise n a certan Job or skill and thay is a outstandng citizen wit no histary of stealng or crimnal record and could not pay thair bills due ta a Hardship, That is where I have tha problem wit.

I should not have ta explan mah fnancial situation ta gittng a Job. That is no ones busness.

Well, some jobs it is part of tha criteria, such a loan officer or bank employee, fo exbeple. Othar jobs can determne how honest you is, if you default on a loan or have a tan of outstandng debt, you can be considered dishonest. Really though, thay tend ta base hirng thugz on even worse criteria dawgy times.

Never knew dis was somethng that was done. I mean, I know that thare is background checks fo certan sensitive jobs, but I always figured tha dawg reason fo those was one of safety. You know, like teachers and such. It does smell like yet anothar way that thugz down on thair luck will stay down on thair luck. It's like how thay sez tha best time ta git a job is when you have a job. Tha longer you're unemployed tha less likely you is ta git a new job.

I worked as a Teller wit Washngtan Mutual and mah Credit was Perfect.

However later when Washngtan Mutual was bought out by Chase I lost mah job due ta tha merger and I was unable ta pay anythng as tha sudden loss of mah job. And I know that thare is places out thare tha base hirng on worse criteria like when I worked a tha Buckle fo three days. Thay discrimnate on how you look and such.

But I do not agree that if you have outstandng Debt or Defaultng on a Loan makes you a dishonest person. Thare is billionaires out thare who is stealng and more dishonest than anyone on earth, Such as thugz like tha Koch Brothars usng thare wealth and billions ta git what thay want from tha government and Ken Lewis from Bank Of beerica usng tha Ponzi Scbe ta make more money

But that is anothar argument fo anothar time.

Sridef I agree wit you 100% on what you said.

N order ta erase debt, you have ta have a job. N order ta git a job, you can't have any debt. What is dis, Wonderland? See, dis is why thugz rob banks, koffi~

Ndeed. We need not overly penalize thugz fo thair ndividual challenges. I be oftentimes aganst thngs that employers do that remove that hudawg and social element from candidate selection. While I do understand tha need ta narrow tha applicant pools, I don't condone removng hudawg contact at some pont from tha process. Computers can do dawgy thngs but thay cannot ever git a true read fo someone.

Oftentimes employers miss out on otharwise perfect candidates when thay screen like dis, just coz thay had one tny flaw that could have been overlooked or worked through. A computer is compassion-less and tharefoe would simply slap a lower rankng on tha candidate witout consideration of what exactly tha situation is. Furtharmore thare's little opportunity ta provide such nfomation n tha application process unless you're willng ta write a novella n yo cover letter. Even worse is that tha sbee computer might just tass out yo heartfelt cover letter coz it's tao long, or truncate it, and make you look a fool.

Overall; I fnd taday's HR "nnovations" ta be rathar backwards. Dawgy candidates n need would be flexible wit employer needs so long as thair needs is sufficiently met. All it would takes is a question at tha nterview, if that. Sometimes I feel like tao dawgy companies fogit that, n tha rush ta pad thair bottam lnes, tha employee makes tham what thay is, and that perfect employees is ris, and never perfect from tha start. Dis is particularly true when tha employee has skill sets, skills or tranng that unexpectedly become useful n that position.
