Ash's Replacement

It because Pokemon Franchise will leave on with or without the Anime , The Anime is in far worst position then other Pokemon Franchise .
It takes a whole lot of money to make an Anime So if Producer notice Pokemon's Popularity is same as with or without Anime then they don't need to waste money on Anime.
Instate , They could use the money for greater project !
So , Writer/Director should come up with something with or without Ash before the Producer cancel the Anime .

Plus , It not like Ash is an awesome protagonist who can't be replaced ! Honestly , If Writer make a new Protagonist who's like Sora (No game no life) , Conan (Detective Conan)
, Gold (Pokespe) , Harata(Pokemon DPA) Or Izayoi (Mondaiji Tachi) then Fan will forget Ash ever Existed!

Ash is completely boring ! He being an Underdog doesn't make him interesting Or likeable.
Actually being An Underdog doesn't guaranty that he's will be interesting ! Just like a lot of Digimon Fan like Taiki (Digimon Fusion) who happened to be a ''Child Prodigy'' While find Tagiru (Digimon Fusion) completely annoying despite he being the new Protagonist & a complete Underdog.
Truth is , People doesn't like Underdog Protagonist! People like to see The Protagonist being treated like an Underdog by other character even if he/she stronger then Everyone.
Like Tatsuya Shiba (Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei) Or Touma (Toaru Majutsu no Index)
Fan simply want to see The Protagonist stun everyone who look down upon him by unleashing his true Power.
Ya Ash is very kind But 90% Kids Anime Protagonist are Super Kind & Selfless .
As for Bonding with Pokemon , Its an Anime about Pokemon so that a fundamental quality all Pokemon Protagonist should have .
But Good Progonist has their own characteristic that wasn't a requirement for the show and those Characteristic makes a Protagonist unique .
For example Some Protagonist are Sly , Some Protagonist are cold ,Some Protagonist are Airhead Some Protagonist are perverted etc.
Unfortunately , Ash's characteristic beyond Requirement aren't really cool !
Currently , Ash is just too freaking nice & Innocent ! Like an Harem Anime protagonist form VN .
Honestly , The Original Ash who was Arrogant , Prideful , Show-off , Attention-seeker , Mischievous & Sarcastic was better .

FYI : BW Series didn't Brought the Old Ash back , Truth is , BW Ash is more incompetent & Idiotic version of DP Ash .

Yeah, and underdog characters are only interesting if they are actually allowed to gradually grow stronger in a reasonable frame of time, and right now, its not going to end up that way with Ash (especially considering the disaster that was the BW series). I don't mind underdog protagonists as long as they are at least shown to actually get stronger and more skilled, thus making their progression worth watching. We got some sense of that in Johto and Sinnoh, but not in AG or BW. Hopefully Ash's result in the Kalos league, win or lose, is closer to Johto and Sinnoh's results and not AG or BW's results.

And forget DP Ash, BW Ash is even more idiotic than even Indigo League Ash. At least Indigo League Ash had it being his very first time as a Pokémon Trainer and thus inexperience as an excuse for some of his actions, BW Ash doesn't have such an excuse, or any excuse for that matter, not even that it was a region far away (I went to Italy a few years ago for a Christmas vacation, and even though I had never set foot in that country before and not like a change in routine, I definitely was able to cope with the experience and not go around like an idiot like Ash did. Heck, I didn't do that with Vancouver, the only other time I left the United States from my recollection). Honestly, Misty was actually correct in Episode 3 as much as it pains me to say this: Ash truly is the worst Pokémon Trainer if he keeps this up.

Plus, the games themselves pretty much replace the protagonists all the time, so it's getting a bit tiresome that Ash is constantly being used for every single region, constantly failing, and in at least one case even making sure he fails in a particularly dismal fashion. Even under advertisement reasons, there's no excuse for not including both game protagonists as main characters in the series, either as replacements to Ash or otherwise as people Ash is mentoring. I mean, what's the point in even watching an advertisement of the games if the person you're actually playing as isn't even a main character in the series (Yes, we do have May and Dawn, but that doesn't cut it, as I doubt most characters who play the games play as the opposite gender when asked unless they are transgendered. We need Brendan and Lucas in the series as main characters in addition to May and Dawn for the advertisements to actually work.), and they gave that up in BW. They did return to it somewhat in XY, but the problem is Serena doesn't seem to have a clearly defined goal other than wanting to hang out with Ash, and even with her having a Pokémon, she isn't doing something consistently that actually involves Pokémon, and just does various odd jobs. Misty and Iris at least had becoming Pokémon Masters of a specific type as a goal, and May and Dawn at least had Coordinating (even though Pokémon Coordinating in the games doesn't even impact the game's story at all, unlike Pokémon Leagues where you actually HAVE to beat the Elite 4 and the Champ in order to get the game's ending. At least with Misty and Iris, it can be justified by using a purely Water or Dragon-type team [even dual-types as long as they have either Water or Dragon as one of the types] in the games for the leagues.). Heck, even Brock, Tracey, and Max actually have a goal to some extent (Pokémon Breeding and later Pokémon Doctor, meeting Professor Oak, and learning to become a trainer in advance, respectively). She literally has nothing at all regarding her goal and Pokémon other than a starter. And considering we're already about thirty episodes in, or at least close to that number with Ash having already gotten his first badges, its unlikely they're ever going to have that. Even May managed to change goals by the time of the battle with Roxanne.

Also, I could forgive losses as long as there was an actual indication of improvement via a rank increase that makes the loss actually worth something. If he does terribly in a league, such as retaining a rank (Hoenn) or worse, decreasing in rank (Unova), then glorified advertisement or not, face of the franchise or not, they really need to keep Ash off the series as constantly watching him lose without any indication that he's actually getting closer to getting to his goal makes the entire thing pointless, even IF we use the excuse of "the journey, not the end result, is what matters," which really, considering how long that's been going on, even that's flimsy at best. Besides, technically, the anime series is supposed to be about the Pokémon, not Ash, so we really don't need to constantly make Ash the main protagonist. Now, if the series actually had his name on it, that's different, because since the series actually has his name on it, that means he's obviously the focus and can't be removed without cancelling the show. Though even then it requires it to be blatant and not ambiguous. Even though part of the reason why the Metal Gear series' flagship series was called Metal Gear Solid was because of Solid Snake, Solid Snake ended up replaced by Raiden and, later, Big Boss as series main protagonist after MGS2, because another reason for the name of the series, and probably more important than that, was because of the 3D "solid" graphics.

Who said Ash quitting as a Pokemon trainer !
Champions are trainer even if they quit Challenging Gym .
Also , This is a thread about ''Replacing Ash''.
The main reason Ash haven't became ''Champion'' it because writer afraid to replace him.
After all , A champion has no business in challenging Gym.
So , I just express an idea to make Ash a champion and keep in in the show at the same time .
Writer/Director can keep Ash if they just switch role.
And let be honest , PEOPLE ARE JUST TIRED OF THE ANIME REPEATING THE SAME STORY OVER & OVER AGAIN!!!
Do you honestly believe Pokemon can go forever with lazy predicable writing ?
Everything has an End !!!
Pokemon use to get 18% rating but now they can't get more then 6.00% rating .
That the prove of Pokemon's popularity decreasing .
Even The Director of Pokemon Admitted of having ''Odd-time'' in a interview at ''Imagine-Nation''
If Pokemon Anime hoping the ''Doreamon Fans'' will keep them alive then they should learn that ''Doreamon fans'' has other Better anime to look forward to instate of Pokemon
After all , Pokemon is nowhere popular as Doreamon and doesn't get nearly as high rating as Doreamon get.
At the moment , Pokemon Anime need a completely different story !
Because Pokemon Anime won't last until Gen VIII if the Anime keep repeating the same story over & over again where Ash have new sidekick , Ash challenge gym , Ash get badge , Ash compete and lose at the League ,Ash go to an filler journey if the new gen doesn't release , The whole Start all over again.
The only reason fans still watch this anime because somewhere in their mind they still believe Ash will become champion someday and they wait for that Someday.
You said the writers should change his profession, so I thought you meant he should quit as a Trainer and be something else.

Also changing the character doesn't means changing the animes formula which is almost the same like the games.

The new protagonist will still get a starter, he/she will collect badges, participate in a League and maybe loose it, in other words another underdog will move to another region and everything will repeat. Not to forget that the animes story is also dependent of the games story. And there are the movies, who cut some story from tv. Mewtwo vs Mew would be awesome as a pre-Indigo-League arc but they showed that story in the movie, also the reason why we never saw Kurt giving back the GS Ball to Ash is because Celebi was featured in a movie too eliminating a planned Celebi arc which got replaced by the Red Gyarados story.

The ratings dropping have nothing to do with Ash maintaining his protagonist status but yes about how bad the Unova series were. And weedle_mchairybug said the reason why AG's rating dropped is because Misty left the group, imagine if Ash get's replaced.

I agree with you that the reason the writers don't replace him is because they are afraid to do soo. Also the fact that Ash isn't totally based on Red and that his starter isn't either Bulbasuar, Charmander or Squirtle is a sign that he would be permamently the anime's protagonist.

And replacing Ash is also replacing his Pikachu, which the writers are even more afraid to do.

Oh please , Pokemon Anime's rating started dropping since Jotho !
Most Misty-fans use AG series as downfall in order to create excuse for bringing Misty back .
Also , Ever read Pokemon Adventure/Pokespe ???
If you did then you would see that every PokeSpe series has completely different story in every series.
Most people tries to say that Pokespe for older people but Pokespe meant for Kids .
Its Maturity level is same as ''Digimon Anime'' .
There only 2 Pokemon Manga that aim toward Teenager & older fan ! Those are Pokemon Reburst & Pokemon Magical Journey .
Pokemon Anime doesn't need to follow the same story .
They just need to change Ash's Or New Protagonist's reason for traveling to another region.
For example , Ash's case : Saving the World Or going toward the next step of his goal
New Protagonist : Differ depending on the story .

Pokemon Anime rating dropping because of its repeat story ! Not Misty.

Actually, there is some truth to our claim that the ratings on both sides of the Pacific dropped in AG largely due to Misty's removal. The ratings did receive a boost in the episodes where she did make guest appearances. Plus, AG was the first instance of them actually spicing up the story to some extent (ie, first time Ash exclusively used Pokémon from the region instead of relying on his old Pokémon, exempting Pikachu, and also the first time Ash got new human team members for an entire series and not simply part of the series (Namely, May and Max lasted until the very end of AG), also the first time they had Pokémon Contests as a main goal), so the story didn't "repeat" so to speak, yet the ratings still failed during that region. I think the only things that were actually similar to the Original Series besides the Gyms part was Ash getting Top 8 in Hoenn like he did in Johto and Team Rocket pursuing Pikachu and causing other mischief. While Johto might have experienced a ratings fall, it definitely was not to the same extent as in AG. Had the ratings in AG simply been due to a repeat story, why is it that the ratings actually boosted when Misty returned in those episodes? Had the ratings decrease in AG been the result of a continuing trend since Johto, the ratings would have stayed the same and continued decreasing/dip even more if Misty returned temporarily, not receive a boost.

That being said, though, from DP onward, it was becoming pretty clear the failed ratings were due to a repeating story, though even that at least had Ash actually increasing in rank by the end.

And good point regarding Pokémon Special. They switched main characters all the time, yet that manga series is still going strong.

EDIT: Actually, I take that back. Since BW went out of its way to make a lot of changes (ignoring past regions outside of Ash, Pikachu, Professor Oak, Delia Ketchum, and Team Rocket, both the organization as a whole and the main trio, and to a lesser extent the Kanto team; making the main TRio more "serious" in a somewhat half-baked manner, Ash actually decreasing a rank, and Ash almost looking as though he received brain damage, as well as a filler arc that didn't even involve some sort of tournament), it did feature a lot of changes (something even you admitted), yet apparently ratings decreased even worse than in AG, or in DP for that matter, so I'm doubtful the recent ratings decrease was due to the story remaining the same. Otherwise, BW, due to its significant, if poorly-thought-out changes would logically receive a ratings boost, not a steep decrease rivaling even that of AG and DP combined. That doesn't mean the ratings decrease didn't have anything to do with Ash, though, it did.

EDIT2: Red_Charizard has a point about the ratings potentially decreasing if we remove Ash. After all, they definitely decreased significantly when Misty was removed, despite the changes made to the story to not ensure a repeat, only increasing when she actually did reappear, even temporarily, and even the Orange Islands had some bad reception when Brock was removed. Unfortunately, right now, what they did to Ash in BW may also have resulted in a similar ratings decrease, if not an even worse case of ratings decrease, meaning ratings will decrease and the show will probably even be killed off regardless of what happens to Ash.

Because , There are people who claim that Pokemon experience Downfall when Charizrad left the Show !
Ya , People rant about Misty leaving but they did accept May at the end.
AG rating were decent as well .

Not really. I looked at the ratings percentages of AG on a Japanese site via a Bulbapedia user around the time DP started, and they were definitely very low. I think DP was even lower at the time (DP's peak, at the start of the show, was about the same as the second or third "season", for lack of a better term, of AG). In addition, at the time, AG also had the episode with the worst episode rating ever (the episode with Pike Queen Lucy, something that was even noted on Bulbapedia. Funny how one of best rated episodes, the Ponyta marathon, was a filler episode, yet an episode that moreorless was necessary, Pike Queen Lucy, was actually rated, at the time anyways, the absolute worst in ratings.). From what I heard of another person on SPPf, even the overall Johto Saga's ratings were far better than the entirety of AG's ratings, at least in America (and they even posted pictures of the ratings confirming it). In other words, AG and DP did very poorly.

As far as Charizard, I can't say one way or another about that, but I definitely know that Misty's departure did play a huge role in AG's decreased ratings. Other than the fact that the ratings would have stabilized (remained the same) by the end of Johto at the very least, if not actually increase precisely because of the changes made in AG, why on earth would those Misty episodes receive a ratings boost for AG if Misty's removal had nothing to do with AG's poor ratings?

EDIT: Also, I never even accepted May at all. At the risk of flaming, she was one of the worst characters created, as she was effectively no different from the characterizations of females from franchises such as Love Hina, Battle Vixens, Maron from DBZ (Krillin's girlfriend, not his daughter), heck, even the Fiorello Fangirls from the episode Princess v. Princess. Even if Misty were kept on the show and May came in, I still would have hated her as long as they gave her that personality. The fact that they removed Misty in a really despicable manner made things even worse. Initially, I didn't even care whether May replaced Misty (and I knew she did because I read a magazine article showing May and Ash in there, I think Disney Adventures), but I discovered her true nature back in 2006 when I had to go to the hospital for chest pains (later turned out to be a pneumothorax). I'd argue that she's the main reason why most people stopped watching the show (I can tell you this much, I definitely never saw very many May cosplayers in Anime Weekend Atlanta during my frequent visits, or any Dawn or Iris or, heck, even Serena cosplayers, though I saw plenty of Kanto-era Misty cosplayers and pre-BW-era Jessie cosplayers. Plus, never saw any female Pokémon anime characters besides Misty and Jessie at Pikabellechu's car). In fact, to be honest, I'm more upset at Brock regarding Misty's departure, and that's mainly because despite Brock's gym faring even worse than Misty's (let's put it this way, at least Misty only had to worry about running the gym while her sisters were out of town and making sure it was attended during PIA inspections: Brock's gym, due to Lola's "redecorations," would have ensured that, regardless of whether the gym leader was actually present or not, the gym ended up shut down by the PIA due to violating the safety and coolness factors, regarding Rock-types nearly being drowned due to converting the rock area into a swimming pool and the garish decorations, respectively), he apparently didn't take the hint that he should do the responsible thing and actually run the gym. Even when having to deal with a similar disaster in Battle Frontier, he still didn't do it, even when it became pretty clear that the only other member of the family who is old enough to train Pokémon and not his parents, Forrest, basically dropped the ball regarding his duties as Gym Leader by not stopping their mom from basically allowing the gym to be vandalized in name of "decorating" it, and this is despite her promising not to do so, and basically left the gym to nearly be burglarized by said "painters."

Hey guys, we're starting to get a little off-topic. Remember that this thread is about your feelings and ideal scenario and replacement for Ash, whether Ash's absence is temporary or permanent.
At some point in future, let's say that they were to replace Ash as main character, whether it be temorary for expermintation or permanent--how would you feel? If fans were given an opportunity to choose, in what way would you have Ash depart from the anime? What kind of a person would you have replacing him, and how would their personality be like? What are some Pokémon you would expect them to catch? Also, what would be their background story?

I believe the character change is a major factor for the dropping of the ratings.
I have read the Red-Green-Blue-yellow chapters and I stopped after. The fact that the story was nothing like the games made me stop.

The Pokémon Anime is more popular than the manga so it must follow the games more.

And like I said it wouldn't make sense replacing Ash now, it wiuld only after Kanto.

You mean this chart -

Now look close !
Pokemon got bellow 6.00 rating at episode at Ep128 of Jotho .
Now look at Ep218 and you will Pokemon start receiving average rating of 7.00 % to 10.00 %
That was before Misty leaving.
AG also receiving 7.00% to 10.00% until AG 81 ! Afterward it keep receiving 6.00% to 5.00% !
Now Is It because Misty leaving ! No , Because it was long after she left .
Then Why ?
Simple , It was because of Drew , May & Contest !
The creator got caught so much on Contest then it feel like they forgot Ash's the main Protagonist.
It was like Creator trying to create Shoujo Love-story about Drew & May .
Even worst , They made Ash to lose to Drew !
At first ,I believe There going to a rematch since Drew will reappear later ! I wait & wait but No rematch !
No a single attempt to show that Ash isn't inferior to Drew !
I mean , Is it killed them to have a rematch between him & Ash ? If they no intention of a rematch then they shouldn't had a match between in the first place .
I mean , Do They know how it feel like to Drew appearing with one win against Ash over his head .
Everytime Drew showed up , it felt like Ash is Inferior to him .
Even now , It feel like Ash is inferior to Drew and he will forever be inferior to Drew !
You hate May , I hate Drew since that Battle between him & Ash .

--On Topic
: Well , It proved that Misty haven't had anything to do with Rating Dropping ! So Replacing Ash won't really affect this show unless The new Protagonist is pathetic and the story is boring .
I mean , If we get a new Protagonist who's Sly & Smart like Conan (Detective Conan) then nobody will even remember Ash .
Imagine A Protagonist with strong deduction ability ! During his travel he met people with problem and Mystery .
He use deduction ability to find the reason & Solution of those problem .
Because of this Deduction ability , He manage to stop one of Evil Team's plan and get their attention.
He Arrogant, sly , Selfish , irrational , Egoistic, irresponsible and doesn't really care what others think .
And he often fight & biker with his signature Pokemon .
He has a crush on his childhood friend who seem to have a crush on his rival .

Actually, that's the first time I even visited that specific site. I think it was Pokeani or some other site that I saw the numbers there. I definitely know a Bulbapedia member directed me to that site or at least posted a link to the site a while back, back when I was still a member of that site. It definitely had a brown wallpaper from my recollection, and was written in Japanese yet was filled with graphs, and I definitely know AG was doing poorly steadily, even AG's first season was shown to not being doing too hot.

Correction, it was Bulbagarden, not Bulbapedia.
