intro
---
In 2016, the world has evolved. Gone are the days where buttons are pressed to play videogames; rather a new system has been adopted: the [Bio]Gauntlet. This device, created by the company known as Skaianet, uses your hand to upload your conscience into the BioNetwork, a system of games on a server that has never been located- and it appears in-game on one's hand, accessing a menu as well as what is deemed as your statistics and vital signs and such. MMOs, especially those inspired by the anime Sword Art Online- specifically a spin off, Sword Art Online: Sanctuary- have been extremely popular. However, there are a lot of people noting that Skaianet has not created a game, instead incorporating third parties to create them.
Trust me; this is all about to change.
project: HOME
---
Skaianet has been rapidly pulling out all the stops to successfully advertise what they're marketing as "the most revolutionary game ever." There has been speculation; some of the most interested people have searched and searched and finally deemed it it's own MMO, but others have doubts. The strangest part is that hackers and news outlets alike have agreed with Skaianet not to agree the information they find, and have left Skaianet to reveal each piece as they go along. However, regardless of what hackers find, or what news outlets find, it won't make sense to them.
In April 2016, Skaianet finally revealed a small tidbit; a name for the project. It was known to the public as Project: HOME, and more press details were released. It was confirmed that it, in fact, was a MMORPG, but it was apparently like none anyone has seen before. The following month [May 2016], more details were revealed as well as the July 2016 release. It was now released and marketed as "the HOME system."
The main detail was the most interesting, as to be noted: all players would live in a "HOME" together, whereas each player had a room- somehow matching their room in the real world- and a separate bathroom. All other rooms- the kitchen, the loft, the attic, the living room- those would all be shared. This wasn't a big brother type game, though- no one was watching you. Everyone would be allowed to do as they pleased, take quests with each other, quarrel, and the like. Quests? Why, yes, this is an RPG; it was revealed that randomized groups of people would be put together in all of these homes, but it is marketed as being decided by "your inherited fate."
HOMEs were also revealed to be treated similar to- but not limited to- guilds. Each HOME unit was recognized as it's own association; more than one HOME unit could take on bosses, but they could also battle and trade resources. However, individual players are also recognized. Each individual player can access their own inventory, equip their own items and wear a variety of clothes, interact with players outside of their respective HOMEs, as well as battle those within their HOMEs. The creators say it should be more in the sense that each player has to coexist with others- almost in a parallel world... with monsters and RPG stuff involved- that they should learn to be and fight together "for a brighter future." Whatever that means, anyways.
you
---
You are an average teenager, and there's nothing really happening in your life. You do, however, seem to find yourself in a position where Skaianet has chosen you- for some reason- along with 2000 other players to test it's beta. Fast-forward to June 2016. Skaianet has announced an unexpected delay on the same time you are sent the beta; the game will now be released September 2016. This doesn't matter to you, obviously; you're testing it anyways. As the mail carrier knocks on your door and groans "UPS," or "USPS," or "STFU" or whatever the name of your respective mail carrier is [mind you, it cannot be STFU], you go up and open the door, receiving the package.
When you open it up, to your surprise, it has it's own [Bio]Gauntlet. Well, whatever, you know what to do. All that's left is to slip the gauntlet on, close your eyes, and let the game begin...
...the game that will become your life.
title
---
Your class in the HOME system is arguably different from classes you'll receive from other games; combined with an aspect [think, an element] you have a title. For example, a Knight of Blaze. These are not chosen by the player, another major difference. However, since you all are playing the players, obviously, you can choose. So...
Here are the available classes. Note that they all are paired; these are active/passive pairs. Active means the class is used for one's personal gain, and passive means the class is used to aid others. Note that the class and aspect you choose will affect the general choices your character makes as well as their personality. X = Aspect
PAGE/HEIR Becomes X./Inherits X.
MAID/KNIGHT Becomes or assists with X./Protects or protects others with X.
SYLPH/SEER Heals or heals with X./Knows X.
WITCH/MAGE Manipulates X./Understands X.
THIEF/ROGUE Steals X to benefit self./ Steals X to benefit others.
PRINCE/BARD Destroys X or destroys with X./Invites or allows destruction through X.
The aspects are all the "Xs" in the previous set of lines involving classes; the purpose behind these is well, generally self-explanatory. Some aspects usually have a personality trait attached; however, it is not necessary to have one regardless.
TIME- A main component of any universe, they are capable of not only time-travel but various powers related to time. There are in fact players of time that can reverse or speed up the flow of time. Of course, the power varies with your aspect. Only exceptional SUs will be accepted with this aspect.
SPACE- Another main component of any universe. Heroes of Space are capable of manipulating dimensions and measurements, as well as the direction of vectors [velocity, force, etc.]. They tend to be very important to a HOME. Both heroes of Space and Time can influence the power of a HOME's influence over others. Once again, only exceptional SUs are accepted with this aspect.
BREATH- Breath is practically air, or wind. Heroes of Breath are regarded for their powers in sense of manipulating the air around them. In fact, there are people who say the best way to visualize breath is to imagine all of the air around you. Now imagine it trying to kill you.
FLAME- The obvious thing this aspect is, well, is conjuring and using fire. However, deeper in this aspect, one can find that they are able to use passion, or the manipulation of it in their powers. Heroes of Flame tend to be overly excited and very into what they do, as well as a bit rash.
SEA- A Hero of Sea is able to use, conjure, and manipulate water in such a way as to use it to their advantage. These players are usually calm and collected, and it's hard to get them mad.
EARTH- A Hero of Earth is able to manipulate and use rocks, dirt, magma, and the like in the lands around them. The big thing that sets Earth apart is that they cannot "create" land; however, anything that comes from the land- rocks and to some extent metals- can be used to their advantage. They are usually solid and adamant.
ELECTRICITY- A Hero of Electricity is able to use, conjure, and manipulate electronic devices and gains an aptitude- regardless of whether they once had it- in technology. Heroes of Electricity are usually erratic and cheerful.
RHYTHM- A Hero of Rhythm uses sounds and tempo in their arsenal; they can manipulate and conjure sound. Their music can be used for many things, and depending on their class they can pick out rhythms in the world and such and use them to influence emotions. Heroes of Rhythm are usually jovial.
LOCKS- A Hero of Locks can both bring out the secrets and things to discover in the world as well as hide them to everyone else. This power can be used in many ways, and these Heroes usually have to be creative to use the aspect in a fight. They tend to be resourceful to cope with such.
WEALTH- A Hero of Wealth can control both luck as well as the amount of value things have in others eyes. These players tend to be very lucky, but weak. They can easily manipulate emotions to increase or decrease something's value, and they are great in business and negotiations.
THE FORGE- A Hero of the Forge has control over weaponry; they have complete control over weapons and can create them out of thin air. They can use any weapon, but are more prone to be manipulated emotionally and mentally- in most cases.
CUSTOM ASPECT- An aspect of your choice! It doesn't matter what, as long as you can explain it, I will add it in for you. Please try to not make it overpowered or a subdivision of another aspect, and keep in mind that by making a custom aspect this does not necessarily mean another cannot use it. Use the ones here as a model.
rules
---
1. All PC and RPC rules apply.
2. Your characters can swear, but not regularly. They're teens, but c'mon.
3. No godmodding, bunnying, powerplaying, etc.
4. The code is presenting me with a picture or .gif that includes either Dr. Pepper, Sprite, or cookies. In spoiler tags. No exceptions.
5. Questions? That's what I'm here for.
6. As you may already know, this is based on and serves as a prequel to Homestuck- however you do not have to read, know, or understand Homestuck to join this RP.
IC-revealed or IC-specific rules
---
There are two rule sections. Why? Because this list will be updated as the IC progresses. So far, there is only one rule here, but once you learn about the game and that jazz this will begin to expand.
7. Your attacks/powers will not be able to affect others in your HOME; the only circumstances will be dealt with eventually IC-ly. However, you can affect those outside of your HOME.
terms
---
HOME- a unit within the HOME system. These units are tasked to work together as to complete the game.
Skaianet- the company which created the HOME system and the [Bio]Gauntlet. Very hush-hush; even hackers do not spill their secrets.
[Bio]Gauntlet- A high-tech gadget placed on one's hand, connected to a computer. Used to access the network the HOME system is played on. An iron gauntlet. Shows up in-game as well, but is quoted as feeling like a "second skin," and has blue lines streaking all over it. Has a small button that can be used to access the menu.
Menu- A menu loaded with a few options. For now, most will be inaccessible to the player. These are SYLLADEX, SPECIBUS, PESTERCHUM, OPTIONS, RETURN HOME, and LOG OUT respectively.
pesterChum- Like HOME, not an acronym. A chat client that is used in the outside world and was bought by Skaianet; now used in-game. It's so popular you should forget about not having one.
Hero- another term for a "player" in the HOME system.
