The Trails The Cross.

The ball shook and stopped. Chris bit his lip. That was what happened with the Spinerak, and it had turned out to be dead. He slowly approached the ball and picked it up. He tossed it up into the air and watched the ray of light shoot out. Out came the disgruntled Geodude, alive and well. Good. This would help with the journey. He looked around and saw a young girl talking to another nearby kid. It was actually cool that there were so many trainers. Trainers meant more possibilities to get stronger. More challenges.

"Cool, more trainers." he whispered and began to walk away. He was sure there was a girl watching him during his battle with Max. Maybe was that girl talking to that one kid. He wasn't the best at detecting possible friendships, but that girl had a certain...click. He left for Cherrygrove with the Geodude, Mount as he will be called now, and Firen. It began to get darker out and he decided on continuing. The darkness felt better. It was colder and nicer than being stranded in the hot sun.

He followed the same path he had taken in the morning. A recount was in order. A chance to think over everything that had happened. Reggie and him had their first official battle and he had succeeded. He'd battled Max, a strong trainer. The Grillo Acorn had been used to help that boy. His mind growled at the memory of that. He had used his only healing substance on that one kid.

As he walked along the trail, he caught sight of the girl from earlier. He had heard her name...it was...what was it? Apple? Abbey? Amber? He watched her hit a tree and a Hoothoot fall out, stunned. What luck. Afterwards, he watched her catch the Hoothoot. Envy crossed his mind as he remembered his first unsuccessful catch. (Creeper xD)

He walked up to her and watched the ball take in the Hoothoot. "Do you want to battle?" he looked at her as he took out his Pokegear to check the Hoothoot out. The small red machine beeped as the picture of the Hoothoot blinked on.

It marks time precisely. Some countries consider it to be a wise friend, versed in the world's ways.

2.1 New Cities & New Friends

The ball clicked and Adelle sighed in a kind of relief as she picked up the ball. Awesome, a new team member. She released the Hoothoot to her shoulder. It was still pretty dazed but let out a small hoot. Pythagoras shrilled weakly at it (it? A quick check of her PokéGear's Dex said it was yet another male). Adelle nodded. They were both weak and needed to be healed.

"Do you want to battle?" Adelle almost jumped and spun around, another trainer approaching her. Oh, he was the trainer with the Magby before, right? Yeah, the one that had won that fight. Adelle shook her head in reply.

"I gotta take these guys to get patched up," she motioned towards her newfound friends. Py's bruise on his head was quite visible and the Hoothoot (he needed a name!) still looked like it could fall over at any minute. "Raincheck." And with that, she spun back around and headed towards Cherrygrove City.

It didn't take long to get to the city, but everything felt so unfamiliar. Though, she had thought up a name for the Hoothoot on the way; Confucius, or Connie for short. Sh flicked out her PokéGear and used the map, easily finding the hospital. Wandering inside, checking her Pokémon in did not take long at all. She was shown to the Minor Wing, gave her Pokémon to a nurse or an orderly or something then wandered into the gift shop as she waited. She had a little bit of money and she needed supplies, so why not buy something to pass the time?

"A PokéBall, one Decent Medicinal Powder and two Standard Potions. Please," she added hastily. Hopefully the guy behind the counter here was not as weird as the trainers she had met.

Tyler watched as yet another trainer went scurrying inside the hospital, this one with a Togepi. Funny how you could be right in plain sight and still be invisible. He got up and stretched out. Maybe he should go beat up on some wild pokemon. Or maybe he could find a trainer to mess with. Isadora woke up and looked up at him.
"Pichu?" she asked. Tyler smiled at her.
"Yeah, let's go find someone to battle. Maybe there's a trainer with some spine around here," Tyler said. He stood up and began walking to the gate of the city and stood waiting for someone, anyone. He decided to mess with the first trainer that crossed his path.

Marzo the Great!

"Two Pokeballs, Two Decent Medicinal Powders, and One Potion. That's all for now."

Chris took the bag of stuff and relocated it to the satchel on his shoulder. Cherrygrove City was a nice town. Small and quaint. The houses were all the same color and tiny. He was looking around when he bumped into some guy. They toppled over and the bags went everywhere. Chris looked at him with a dark expression.

"Look at what you did." he growled at the man. It was only then he noticed his strange apparel. Jester clothing, jester hat. "What are you?"

"Oh, very sorry, very sorry indeed. I, well, I'm a firebreather you see, and I'm on my way to Goldenrod, you see." his english accent made Chris feel queesy.

"I mean, who are you?" Chris just wanted to leave, but the Jester still had his satchel in his hand.

"Oh, I'm Marzo. Marzo the great!" he yelled so that everyone around them turned. Chris shielded his face. The last thing he wanted was to be embarressed. "I'm the dangerous firebreather, the one and only Ma-" Chris grabbed his mouth and pulled him into an alley.

"Will you be quiet! do you live around here?" he asked impatiently. The Firebreather showed him to a door on the other side of the alley. Inside he was instantly met by a beam of fire. Chris looked around to try to find the cause. It was a red beast. It looked similar to Firen, but much bigger, and much more...yellow. It let out a large, "Magmar" as it moved towards Marzo.

When it breathes deeply, heat waves form around its body, making it hard to see clearly.

The Pokegear stopped beeping. The Spitfire Pokemon? Firen's evolution? Marzo laughed as he watched Chris realize that Firen would one day turn into a Magmar. Chris looked at Marzo who brought over a chair. "Drinks? Anyone?" a feminie voice came from the hallway and an elderly woman stepped out.

"Oh, Marzo brought home a friend. Would you like some cookies, dear?"

"Grandma Jo, please stop talking."

"Oh, come now, Marzo. Ever since you graduated from CWHS, you've been all talk with that dumb dream of yours."

"Wait, you just graduated?" Chris looked at him.

"Yeah. Did you?" he looked at Chris. Marzo was a short guy. He looked like he was fourteen give or take a year. He wasn't that skinny either.

"So, you know how to battle?" Chris asked, hoping for a yes.

"Uhh, yeah. I'm okay at it, I guess." he answered.

"What are you talking about? My grandson is great at battling. He and Magmar are an unstoppable duo. Now, c'mon. Time for a battle!"

Down the road, with a right turn onto Matliey Avenue, there's a small park. Chris looked around and saw massive amounts of trainers battling it out. Great, this would be a true test of skill since Firen can't use moves like Ember yet. They picked a spot on the end and a referee was found. The refs sat on a bench on the far end of the park. They dragged Mr. Rover all the way to the battling spot and set up the battling scene.

"The battle will be two versus two. So, are you two ready? Begin."

The battle began with Marzo sending out a strange Pokemon Chris had never seen before. It was a bat-like Pokemon without eyes. He took out his PokeGear and checked up on it.

It checks its surroundings and location using reflections of the ultrasonic waves from its mouth.

A Zubat, huh? Chris sent out Mount who landed with a bang on the ground. The battle began quickly with the Zubat using a Supersonic. Mount began rolling fast to scatter it away. Then, he tried to reach the Zubat but it flew out of the way. He rolled out and came back. It was about to hit the Zubat when it flew out of reach yet again. Then, the Zubat sprayed the Poison Sting which rebounded off the Geodude as it came forth again. This time, it was a direct hit. The Zubat came down and just as Geodude was coming back again, the Pokemon came down on the street leaving an indent. Then, Zubat got back up and used a Supersonic and Mount became confused.

The Zubat came back down with a Wing Attack and the Geodude couldn't dodge. Instead, it span around and took a bigger hit. The Geodude was tired, but Chris urged it to go forward. There had to be a way to keep Zubat on the ground. Maybe there was! Geodude rolled towards the Zubat who easily dodged. Another Rollout and the Zubat dodged again. It finally got to the fourth Rollout. The Zubat moved out of the way but the Geodude kept going into a mat of grass. It continued to spin until mud began to spew out. It hit the Zubat who's wings became heavy. Slowly, the Zubat began to come down. The Geodude hit Zubat square in the chest and it fell down.

"Zubat is unable to battle. The winner is Geodude. Now, Marzo? Did I get that right?

The battle began with Magmar coming out and shaking the ground. The Magmar sent out a Fire Spin while the Geodude used a Defense Curl When the fire was gone, the Geodude was still going. Then, it began to roll and flew towards the Magmar who took a good hit but blasted an Ember and Geodude fell.

"Geodude is unable to battle. The final battle, Chris?"

"That was a quick battle. See, my Magmar evolved as fast as possible. Maximum power."

Maximum power. Firen came out with a cry and headed for the Magmar who stomped its foot on the ground. The ground trembled like before and the Magmar laughed. Chris didn't know what to do. Flame Body wouldn't do much and Smog wasn't as powerful as other attacks. But, maybe the Magby could...yes, Firen was faster. Firen set off by running around the Magmar who continued to send out Flamethrowers.

"That's it! Magmar, Fire Spin to trap it!"

The Magmar breathed in adn just as it was doing so, Magby sent out a Smog. The Magmar tried to exhale all the Poison from his body, but it was no use. Slowly, it began to lose health. Firen continued to run as Magmar suffered from the poison. It continued to expel fire from its body but, Firen was too fast. Then, it happened. Magmar moved its tail to trip the Magby. Then, it used Firespin to stop the Pokemon. Both Pokemon let out some screams as the attacks steadily dealt damage. Firen swirled around the Fire Spin with its Flame Body to make some kind of Fire Storm. There wasn't much nearby foliage, so nothing managed to catch on fire. The Magmar took the hit and both Pokemon were pushed backward.

"Go, Magmar, Fire Spin full power!"

"Go, Firen, Smog!" Chris' cold voice rang.

the attacks began to collect. The Smog began to absorb the explosive fire power. They accumulated into a huge fireball. The flammable gas exploded through the small space pushing both Pokemon back. Firen and Magmar both looked bad. Smoke filled the scene. Chris could suddenly not see anything. The air began to clear and Firen was still standing. but, so was Magmar. The ref's voice rang.

"Before there is too much damage, I decide that this battle is a draw!"

************************************************

After a visit to the Pokemon Center, both trainers looked proud of what they did. Marzo and his grandmother had been talking for quite a while, leaving Chris alone with his thoughts. Firen and Mount had gotten much stronger. He looked around Cherrygrove. It was so much quieter in the evening. A rustling wind flowed through the town and into Route 30 where there was still construction. When would that end? He would be staying at the Pokemon Center, or so it appeared. Grandma Jo and Marzo came back.

"Great battle, young man. What was your name again?" the woman asked.

"Chris." he said coldly, he didn't want to stay here anymore.

"Well, after much thought, I've decided to go on a journey. Isn't that great. The Adventures of Marzo!" Marzo yelled just as before. But at least this time there weren't as many watchers.

"Cool, for you. Well, I guess it's time I get going." Chris said, finally about to leave.

"I guess it is, I'm sure we'll see each other very soon. Thank you."

Chris began to walk toward the Pokemon Center, It was only then that something hit him.

"Wait! You still have my bag!"

Rile really wished the Tyrogue would stop staring. Or that he would at least blink. He'd expected some kind of furry, ridiculously cute creature, or maybe a mildly cute bird--definitely some kind of cute critter. But the Tyrogue was uncannily humanoid--he even wore shorts and shoes, never mind that his skin was purple and that he only had three fingers on each hand. He looked more like an alien than a Pokemon, not that Rile knew what an alien looked like.

He'd known since the moment he had hatched that they weren't going to be best buddies. The Pokemon had barely reached his thighs (he'd wondered how it had fit inside the egg), but the moment the last of the eggshell had given way, he had stood up, opened his eyes, and had landed on Rile the most intense gaze he had ever seen. He had stared like that for several long moments, before slowly looking him up and down, as though assessing his new trainer. From the scowl on his face that he had had ever since, it appeared that Rile had fallen quite short of his expectations.

It was too bad, but Rile didn't really care.

He stopped as he stepped into slush-like mud. He gave his foot a heavy yank, and it came free with a loud squelch, his sneaker nearly coming off in the process. Frowning slightly, he glanced up and looked around. It was funny, but the last time he'd come to Route 29, it hadn't seemed so...wet. In fact, the Route 29 he remembered was dry and covered with crunchy leaves and branches that snapped loudly when you treaded on them. That had been a few years ago though, in the summer when the Johto region had been struck by a particularly long dry period. Pity, he thought, as he swept in the overgrown grass and the swamp-like mud replacing the dirt. The air stank of earth and pine--not that that was a bad thing, but really, those pine trees smelled sickly sweet, which might have been nice if the odor didn't clash with the muddy smell of...mud.

Spotting a nice, large, and dry rock, Rile plodded his way over and sat down. Tyrogue looked on disapprovingly with a deepening scowl. He stood stubbornly to the side, as though refusing to sit. Rile saw that one of his fists was clenched tightly together.

"Tyrogue are very competive," Elm had told him. "They're always looking to hone their fighting skills, and they'll challenge anybody they think would be worthful opponents."

It was just his luck for him, the lazy snarky guy, to end up with one of those super-disciplined martial arts fanatics. He'd seen them before, had heard tales of how Machoke sometimes showed up at a fighting dojo and challenged the leader.

We don't fit at all, Rile thought, flicking a strand of hair out of his eyes as he gazed at the clouds drifting high in the sky. He was aware of the Tyrogue tensing as though in anger. Seven. They were floating by peacefully, wisps of white, those others too small or too transparent--vapory, whatever the term was, trailing behind them like there was nothing else to do in the world...

He was shaking, now.

Well. Unfortunate as it was for him, Rile had no intention to become more 'active', or whatever the adults called it whenever they told him, as gently as possible, that he had 'a lot of potential, but if you could just work harder...?'. So Tyrogue had to learn to chill. Fat chance, if he considered the natural hardworking (bleh) instincts warring against the nonexistent affection the Pokemon held for him. He'd even go as far as to say immediate dislike. He didn't blame him; he knew he often made a bad first impression on his teachers when he met them, something about shabby looking appearance and personality. Heck, it was probably his extreme super-disciplined-martial-arts-fanatic self-control that was holding him back now--he certainly looked angry enough to yell at Rile. Not that he could understand a Pokemon yelling at him anyway. It might even be good, in a way: he had been too silent on the way here, hadn't uttered a sound since that muffled war cry thing Rile had heard from within the egg seconds before it smashed open.

Rile turned and pointed at the many massive trees lining the route. Tyrogue's jerked a bit at the sudden movement. Rile could see his eyes. Shrewd. Calculating. Too serious. Trying too hard. "See in there? I bet there are a bunch of Pidgey hiding out in the trees. The wood's nice and dry, thanks to the bugs, so they like to make their nests in there. There's a whole lot of them. Sometimes they swarm." The Tyrogue looked at him curiously--again, that annoying, concentrating look. Really, it bothered him. Maybe the reason they liked to punch things was to release all of their tension? "They're mostly active during the day. There are some that hunt the night though. Those who do go after the Spinarak. They're pretty rare, and only crawl out when it's dark. They're Insect-type, something Beast-types like you don't do well against."

Tyrogue understood the underlying statement perfectly. You can try to beat them if you want, but you'll be at a disadvantage. Or that's what Rile hoped he understood. What would happen if he got You can't even beat a stupid spider, you weird purple thing instead?

Rile glanced at the sky. It was still early afternoon. Well, that didn't matter. It wasn't as though he were participating in the League challenge; he had no deadline to worry about. Making himself as comfortable as he could on a big chunk of rock, he tipped his cap into his eyes to block the sunlight streaming onto his face (and the rest of Route 29 in general) and watched the sky. It was as blue as ever--maybe too blue. Everything in his field of vision, which was very narrow, was the same eye-watering blue. Too constant. Rile wondered idly if maybe it was lighter toward the horizon, or perhaps darker if there was a storm brewing far, far away, but he was too lazy to turn his head and check.

He didn't know how long they stayed like that. All he knew was that he stayed on his rock, mind drifting, Tyrogue a still presence somewhere to his left. Eventually he sat up and, digging out the sandwich his mother had packed him, ate lunch. If Tyrogue heard the sound of chewing and felt hungry, he showed no sign of it. He took it seriously, Rile thought fuzzily afterwards. He's really going to wait until nightfall.

He fell asleep at some point; not a very smart thing to do, he learned when he opened his eyes blearily, as napping on a rock wasn't very good for your back--or your neck, for that matter. He woke to darkness, the sun having already set nearly an hour ago. Groaning, he heaved himself up slowly, hearing pops and cracks as he stretched his limbs. He gave up because apparently sleeping in a stiff position with your knees bent made your legs numb, and slid down onto the grass instead. At least it was relatively dry. Though as far as knew, he might have sat on a bug.

Squinting, he made out the outlines of clusters of trees, though he had no way of knowing if they were the same trees he had pointed out to Tyrogue earlier this afternoon. Pausing, his eyes wandered through his surroundings, until they fell on a beginning-to-be-familiar figure. He was in the exact same position he'd left him in, Rile realized half-incredulously, half-wearily. Really, he'd known he was determined, but to have this much concentration? It was scary. For him, at least.

Rile threw his hands in the air, leaning back onto the rock (which hurt his spine), letting out a slightly frustrated sigh. Tyrogue's eyes could surely see into the darkness better than his, so there was really no reason to keep watching the trees like a hawk, especially since he couldn't see much of anything anyway. Too many leaves and stuff. He heard the distinctive hoot of a Hoothoot. Rile wondered what time it was, and why his body wasn't built with an internal clock like a Hoothoot's. It would have saved him a lot of trouble.

A bush (or something) rustled. There was nothing peculiar about that, since there was much rustling about due to the soft, cool breeze blowing through the semi-open plain, swaying branches and bending long strands of grass. But this time Tyrogue's golden eyes had snapped toward something to the right too fast for Rile to see (or maybe he just couldn't see much of anything right now) and his entire body had jerked forward. There...there was another rustle. Rile had to admit that it sounded a bit different than all of the other rustling going around. For one, it sounded more like leaves were being shaken, instead of having its leaves blown in one direction by the wind.

Tyrogue tensed--and then Rile saw it. Scurrying hurriedly across the undergrowth, as though afraid to be seen, was a spider. He caught a flash of its strange markings when a purplish blur rushed past him. Rile fought back a wince as Tyrogue slammed into the Spinarak. He'd expected it--well, planned it actually--but he still didn't feel very enthusiastic about his first fight with his new partner. He was a breeder, not a trainer, and though the two sometimes overlapped, he didn't feel the necessity of making his Pokemon fight in order to catch a new one...or of standing there (or sitting in a rather undignified lump on the grass, under current circumstances, because he didn't feel like getting up) giving out orders when Pokemon were perfectly capable of beating each other to a bloody pulp by themselves. Although that might be one of the reasons the trainer was the one telling his Pokemon what to do.

"Helping Hand," Rile said.

Tyrogue shot him a look over his shoulder, but jumped back and clapped in that odd way that raised one's attack power. Rile had no idea how that worked. But judging from the Beast-type's fierce look of determination (not that he didn't always look fierce and determined), it had worked. However, as he moved in for a punch, Rile cut in,

"Not yet."

Tyrogue stopped in mid-movement for just a fraction of a second, but it was enough. The String Shot flew in front of him, missing him by a hair (and Rile couldn't help but think that he would have been screwed if he'd had a nose), and fell with a sick splat on the bark of a tree. Tyrogue froze. Rile could read mild disbelief on his features. He'd come close to receiving a wad of sticky bug fluid-web-gum-thing in the face, so Rile couldn't blame him.

"Wait for it," he advised. "It'll be coming any second now."

As soon as the last word left his mouth, the Spinarak tugged on the web and was suddenly yanked forward at an incredible speed. The fact that the spider Pokemon was clearly following the previous String Shot's trajectory and that said attack had barely missed Tyrogue--

"Duck!"

Of course, being the super-disciplined-martial-arts-fanatic that he was, Tyrogue couldn't do only that. Instead, he did a back-flip (and he was born this morning?), landing, of course, perfectly on his feet. The Spinarak squealed as, its inital target having disappeared in showy acrobatics, it smashed into the tree its web had been connected to.

Rile smiled despite himself. He knew the Spinarak wasn't really hurt: Pokemon were far more durable than that. "That's an opening,. Use it! Tackle!"

Drawing his fists to his sides, Tyrogue breathed in sharply, then rammed into the still dazed Spinarak, sending up a cloud of dust as the tree's bark was smashed and splinters of wood and leaves rained down.

Erm.

Right. So maybe Rile had...forgotten to mention that though Beast-type moves were ineffective against Insect-types, Tyrogue didn't actually know any Beast-types moves. Tackle was, in fact, a Colorless-type attack and therefore Tyrogue had never been in any real isadvantage, since even though the Insect type was resistant to the Beast type, Beasts weren't weak against Insect moves...so really, there had been no reason to go after a Spinarak in general.

The fact that Tyrogue was weak to the common Pidgey flocking in the trees might have something to do with it.

Yep...it hadn't been very nice of him to...mislead him like that. Still, Rile thought that he had perhaps learned something that day. Night. Whatever. Maybe it was that his trainer wasn't stupid (though he wasn't very nice) and that he should listen to him if he wanted to win? Eh...that sounded even more...not nice.

Ah well.

As the dust cleared, Rile saw Tyrogue standing, as still and reserved as ever, next to the unconscious Spinarak. But Rile could see the triumph in his eyes and the way he squeezed his fists tight in order to contain his excitement. His first win. When he finally seemed to notice his trainer's gaze on him, he looked up, and Rile saw that the scowl that had lurked on his face nearly the entire morning and afternoon was gone. Instead there was an odd expression...

Rile didn't know what respect looked like, but he had a pretty good guess that was it.

He wasn't sure if he felt happy about it either, since it meant that Tyrogue was going to be expecting him to display the same level of prowess all the time from now on, and he'd really rather not have to try so hard every time he ran into a wild Pokemon. So he reaaaaalllly shouldn't do anything to encourage him...

"I've been thinking," Rile said. "You need a name, don't you? Something that'll distinguish from other Tyrogue. Something that'll make you you." He could see from the way Tyrogue's golden eyes gleamed that he wanted this very much. This was probably a bad idea... "I'll give you one, then. From now on you'll be Tyr."

...well, he'd just screwed himself epically.

Ivan took in the sight of town famous for it's hospital. There was a small beach, a few houses, and of course the hospital. It seemed to be a trend; small towns with one major feature. Then again the commune was similar to these towns, minus anything interesting. His first thought was to have the egg identified by Elm via PC and then find something proper to carry it in. It wouldn't hurt to have Element checked either. For his first task all he need was to find the Pokecenter, obviously somewhere within the tower health center. For now he would just keep the egg wrapped in his extra shirt.

Ivan was greeted by the receptionist when he entered the automated front doors. "Good afternoon sir, may I help you with something?" "Uhm, yes, I am looking for the Pokecenter. I assumed it'd be located somewhere in this marvel of a hospital." The green haired woman gave him directions far more complicated than what should have been. He nodded in acknowledgement whilst attempting to memorize the directions. He gave her a curt thank you and began his trek through the hospital to find the "minor wing" as they called it. He passed through all sorts of different wings dedicated to different illnesses and age groups. The sheer size of the place was simply grand. It seemed almost as if he'd never find the so-called "minor wing" but finally he stumbled upon a simple wooden door with a metallic handle with a sign that read "Minor Wing".

On the other side was a Pokecenter similar in nearly every way to all the others in the region. A small stall to the side of the room was labeled as the "Gift Shop", most likely their version of a Pokemart. At the counter patiently waiting was a Nurse Joy. "Hello, do your pokemon need healing?" "You might want to take a look at my Element here, he was in a small scrap with a spinarak earlier. It was nothing big but he might still be a little bound up by that string shot." Ivan squatted down to Element's height, well he tried to at least, outstretching his hand; still tentative of whether he would begin to charge or not. However Element was completely calm, if not still a little sad still about being defeated by a string shot. He picked the pokemon up and set him on the counter where he was transferred to Nurse Joy's pokemon stretcher. "I'll be just a few moments. I just had to give him a quick spray down to get all that nasty webbing out. "Thank you, and do you have a PC around here?" The nurse pointed to the machine in the corner before wheeling Element off to the back room.

Ivan had never used a PC before but the interface was pretty simple. He selected a video call and entered number for Elm's laboratory that was stored in his PokeGear. It rang once... twice... thrice... Bzzvvvcchhh "This is Professor Elm, might I ask who is cal... Oh, Ivan, it's you. You might have to squat down a bit, your face isn't quite in the shot." He felt a little dumb for not thinking about his height. He bent over until his head appeared in the little screen in the corner showing his camera view. "Hello Elm, It's good to see you again, even though it hasn't been too long. I can't thank you enough for my Elekid." "Oh it is no problem at all. I'm glad you're enjoying your pokemon so far. Have you named it yet?" "Yes actually, it's name is Element." "Ah, I see. Now, you must have had a reason for a video conference other than just to say hi. What is it?" Ivan went on to tell him about the incident with the spinarak, ariados and the egg he found. "I was hoping you could identify what pokemon it will be." He unwrapped the purple spotted egg to show the professor. "Hmm, interesting. I've been studying pokemon eggs for quite some time now. I don't recall what species this is but I am excited to find out. It will further my research just that much more!" "I'll be sure to call you the moment it hatches." "However you shouldn't go around stealing eggs right out their nests in the middle of the forest. It may cause you a bit of trouble and ethically, it's a bit on the gray side." "I'll be sure to remember that Professor. Bye" "Goodbye, be sure to inform me the second that egg hatches."

The screen went dark, flickering back to the main menu screen. A second Nurse who attended the counter was listening in on the conversation. "Sir, that is no way to be caring for a poke-egg." Ivan was surprised by the harsh tone of the normally peaceful woman. She dissapeared behind a door for a moment, coming back with a glass case with a satin padded bottom of sorts. The lid was unlatched and the egg carefully placed inside by the trained nurse. "There we are, all set now. And it seems your elekid is fully recovered aswell." The nurse who had taken Element was rolling him back out on the stretcher. He jumped down, sprinting to Ivan, eager to stand by his side. "Thank you both, I very much appreciate it." The two nodded as they went back to their normal work. "Ele ele." Element seemed happier now that he was free of the sticky substance.

On his way out of the "minor wing" he noticed a rather feminin boy, or was it just a masculine girl? He didn't bother to stick around and find out, she seemed to have an air about her that told you she really didn't like others. The trek out was as much of a maze as the one in. Large rooms, small rooms, hallways and corridors. But he found his way back to the front desk where the green haired receptionist bid him adieu. Before exiting the glass doors he noticed a trainer passing by with a rather nasty look on his face and a pichu trailing behind him. It seemed to Ivan that all the trainers in these parts were quite fierce in the sense that none of them looked like he would want to mess with them.

The sun still shone bright even as it started to descend from the high noon position. It was much like the days of work at the commune during the summer, weeding the tracts of land set for farming with the hot sun on your neck. His days of farming were behind him, he knew that at the least, however he was still unsure of what he wanted to do with his life. But that decision was for a another time, his journey had just started. Ivan squinted his eyes, looking for something to do on this fine day. To the West was a small beach with calm waves crashing ashore and a single, lonely fisherman stitting on a stool. To the North was the entrance to the next route, sounds of heavy machinery echoing throughout the town. Maybe a crew he was familiar with were working on the roads. To the East was the entrance back to route 29, somewhere he really did not want to go. To the south was a rock wall, sheer and unscalable. He decided to head to the beach.

The walk to the beach was a short, peaceful one. There he found the same lonely fisherman sitting on a stool, turning a pokeball over in his palm. He was transfixed by the small sphere, a slight grin spanning his face. Ivans boots sifting through the sand gave his position to the man on the stool who, in turn, whirled around to face the rather large trainer who stood at least a full head above him. "Hello there sir." He looked down the the elekid who stood half behind its trainer's leg. "Oh another trainer! I have a favor to ask of you. Could you catch me a magikarp? I've always wanted a team of gyrados. They're so fierce and strong! So what d'ya say? I'll make it worth your while. And I'll let you use my rod, it's no use to me, I'm terrible as a fisherman." These words crashed down upon Ivan as a wave of desperation. He agreed to help someone in need, but refused the pole. He wasn't particularily fond of fishing so he would find another way to catch this man his magikarp.

Ivan headed south toward the rock wall where large stones that had fallen from above. They were indeed large, some a few meters wide. They rested firmly in the muck at the bottom of the bay, unmoved possibly for hundreds of years. He and Element jumped from one rock to the other until they found themselves on one of the few outcroppings on the sheer wall big enough to rest comfortably on. They sat, they waited; watching for a sign movement at the water's surface. "Element use meditate, I want to be ready." "Ele ele." The elekid sat crosslegged with a stiff spine, drowning out the noises of the outside world with silence. A slight buzzing noise began to emanate from the meditating pokemon. And in an instant the buzzing stopped, Element opening his eyes to reveal a look of ferocity. But if you looked deeper you would find a look of serenity and peace. Pokemon truly were amazing.

The sun was beginning to set, not a sight nor sign of a magikarp since starting his quest. Ivan was growing tired, Element still focused and determined. He was about to start heading back to town when a blip of water rippled not far away. He immediately stood to see two magikarp swimming towards his rock non-chalantly. "Element, get ready" "Ele ele!" He watched intently as the two pokemon circled around rocks; playing. It was no matter to Ivan. He wanted to help the poor man. It was always in his nature to help others; he always felt better afterwords. One of magikarp jumped up between some rocks; now was his chance. "Element! Quick attack!" The elekid broke into a sprint, jumping between a few rocks, building speed. The electric poke slammed into the watrer type, pounding it into another rock. It lay there flopping about, attempting to use splash. Element had bounced back to a nearby rock, ready for another go."Again!' Element followed orders, slamming the pokemon back into the water. It attempted to swim away but was too weak. Ivan threw a pokeball at the surfacing pokemon. The red beam captured the weak pokemon before it's friend could intervene. The ball landed in the water, beginning to rock. These little balls could float, who knew?

2.2 New Cities & New Friends

Her Pokémon were returned to her as Adelle went back into the main ward of the Minor Wing. When she asked about lodgings, a nurse gestured to a flight of stairs, explaining that there was a small inn downstairs, a place for trainers like herself to stay. She thanked the nurse and followed her directions. Indeed, she came to the said in and immediately went about getting herself a room. The fee was small, which was a relief, though the rooms were also. Not only that, but each room was fit with bunk beds, like a dormitory. Which means she would most likely be sharing a room with a somebody or two. That was perfectly okay with her, as long as they didn't keep her up all night.

She passed by a few trainers but didn't pay them much notice and picked a room and a bed. When she was settled, she pulled off her bag and flopped onto the bed, Pythagoras and Confucius taking places at the top edge of her bed. With nothing much else to do, Adelle pulled out her PokéGear and flicked though it, checking out the maps, the Dex and then the phone service. She had five numbers stored in there; Her mum, her dad, her home, Elm and that Witthoefft guy (oh, his name was in writing here!). She frowned at it. Why had he scampered off so hastily before? Was he in Cherrygrove now? She checked the time... yeah, there was plenty of time to do something. She at least needed to thank him properly without him running off so she could wipe her guilt conscious. Ringing him would be far too tedious, so she sent a text message.

You in Cherrygrove yet?

Tyler grew bored. Not one of the trainers he had been keeping an eye on was of any use to him. And it was getting dark. He decided to find a place to sleep. He remembered some fool passing him say something about the innin the minor's wing. So, he could get some rest there, and at around midnight he would slip through the construction site. He walked back to the hospital and down the steps into the basement.
"I need a place to sleep," Tyler said. He paid the small fee and went to the room he was told to go to. He walked in and threw his bag on the bed, not even bothering to see if anyone was in there or not. Huh, the room was like some kind of cheap dorm. And it was far to small for his tastes. He lay down on his bed and stared at the bunk above his.
"Pichu!" Isa said. He pet her on the head.
"Man, what a waste of a day. I haven't met one good trainer yet," Tyler said to Isa. She glared at him, and he ignored it.

Drawing One Towards Another

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Witthoefft kept running through the city, furious. That kid had really gotten to him- like everything did. And it didn't help that this involved Pokémon getting hurt. Oh, the physical beating he would've given that kid if he wasn't in control of himself. How dare that boy hurt one of nature's most innocent race of creatures. Witthoefft clenched his teeth as the memory of Pythagoras being kicked repeated over and over in his head. Pythagoras was a newborn, too. A freaking newborn! The most innocent of the innocent!

Witthoefft stopped and punched the side of a house. He wasn't calming down.

"Eevee?" Vici mewled at him curiously.

Witthoefft let out a breath, a frustrated sigh of sorts. Witthoefft felt really angsty, even though there wasn't anything to be about anymore. The kid was punched in the face and he learned his lesson; shouldn't Witthoefft be satisfied? Sigh. Unfortunately, he didn't work that way.

The teen let Vici walk on the ground as she was starting to get restless in his arms. The tiny feline was constantly adjusting herself and looking around at all the new, exciting things.

"Eevee!" She happily cried as she ran over to the small coastline nearby. Witthoefft watched her, looking like he was sullen. He wasn't because of her though. In fact, if anything, seeing Vici made him feel a bit better. He was so proud of Vici; she was such a brave and independent soul. Pth. It was like she didn't him. And she probably didn't, either.

....Was making her be with him selfish? Gah. Witthoefft placed his forehead on the arm he was leaning on the building he punched. He kept making himself feel more angry and guilty. This entire day sucked. First Elm. Then Pidgey. Then Pythagoras. Can't anything go right and nicely today? Ugh. Maybe tomorrow will be better. For now, I can't let Vici down by sharing my misery.

Witthoefft straightened his back as he got off from the building. Vici hadn't gotten too far; she was playing with what looked to be a.... Vulpix? That was odd. Vulpix weren't native circa Cherrygrove. They were playing rough and growling playfully at each other. Very cute.

Walking over casually, the teen towered over the two playing creatures. Examining the Vulpix, it looked very healthy and strong. The two took turns pinning each other and rolling in the sand before they plopped down and squealed happily.

"Who's your friend, Vici?" Witthoefft asked. At the sound of the voice, the Vulpix looked over barked (if you could call it that) cutely at the human. Vici didn't take notice Witthoefft and took a pouncing position, wagging her tail back and forth in random jerks.

"She'd me mine, mate." A voice said. Turning around, a rather muscular fellow appeared, walking over to the trio. Once he finally took a stance next to Witthoefft, it was revealed that Witthoefft maybe had and inch on him; he had navy blue eyes, and wafting golden hair with plentiful stubble that made him look like a sophisticated beatnik. He was wearing black swim trunks with this funny design on it: There was a Seviper that scaled from side to side, with words near its mouth asking "Do you want to see my long python?" Other than that, we wore a thin grey sweatshirt (zipped down to the bottom of his pectorals, lest you not assume he just came back from swimming due to his lack of shirt or miss out getting a view at his perfectly hairy chest) and gold dogtag. His skin was lightly tan, and his figure was perfect, too- plenty of muscle to make your head turn but just short of becoming bulky. And as a final note.... he was maybe three years Witthoefft's senior.

Huh. So one of those swimmer heartthrobs that creates an argument between a woman and her friend every time they walk into a room owns this Vulpix.

"That'd be Tayna. And I'd be Darren. Pleasure to meet you, mate!" he said in one of the most downright happiest Hoennian (which would translate to Australian in the real world) accent he's ever heard.

"Witthoefft Evans, and that'd be my Eevee, Vici." Witthoefft said kind of blandly, recovering from his anger.

"Well I'm as happy as a Goldeen that you're playing with my Pokémon rather than trying to catch it. I can't tell you how many times that happens to me, mate. Nice to meet your acquaintance, Wiftheffyit." Darren said. ...Were Goldeen really that happy? Witthoefft didn't know. Didn't they have more of a vicious reputation?

"Witthoefft," he corrected. "Nice to meet you, too." As he was saying this, Darren seemed to eye him up and down. Was the man paranoid? From his attitude, it didn't look like he'd be like that. But people had their secrets.

"Vul!" a cry of pain rang out. The two trainers looked at the Pokémon, and apparently, Vici had pinned Tayna down and was biting at her face.

"Hey!" Darren voice shouted. "Cool your jets, kitty."

Vici jumped at the noise and off of the Vulpix, unsuspecting. The Eevee looked absolutely shocked and a tad bit frightened of Darren as Tayna picked herself back up and ran to her master. Darren picked her up and cuddled the fox, quieting her whimpers. Vici was baffled, and so was her trainer.

"What-?" Witthoefft mumbled.

"Ah, don't worry about it, mate." Darren joyfully stated. "Some Pokémon are rougher than others and some are softer. Looks like yours is the former and mine takes the latter. I'm sure it was an accident. Maybe the next Pokémon you get should be big and durable fella- like a Growlithe. One of those would be a great playmate for your Eevee there."

"Y- Yeah," Witthoefft said, a bit dazed. "Tayna alright?"

"Pix...." the fox said, looking uneasily at Vici.

"M'ah, she will be alright." Darren said bouncing his arms to comfort the Vulpix. Tayna calmed a bit and smiled at her trainer.

Witthoefft looked a bit sadly the Vulpix. He wasn't quite sure what to think. Had the Vulpix done something for Vici to attack, or was it just a softie? Or Both? Darren noticed this expression and cocked his head and brow. Was Witthoefft feeling down for some reason?

"Come on mate," Darren said, strolling over and casually scooping up one of Witthoefft's dangling arms in his own. "You look like you need to relax."

----

The sun was going down a bit, making the sky a beautiful shade of orange. Both guys were laying down on the sand with there hands under their heads.

"Ah, can't wait for those stars to come in, mate." Darren said in his usual light tone.

"Yeah," Witthoefft agreed. "I always love the sky in this region."

"Oh? You lived in another region?"

"When I was young, I lived in Icirrus City, Unova. That was before my parents split up. Moved to New Bark when I was ten."

"I'm sorry to hear that, mate."

"Yeah, well, not much you can do about your past."

"Right, always look towards the future!" Darren exclaimed. "That's my policy, too."

"Heh." Witthoefft paused for a moment. He felt much more calm now.... maybe Darren was his pick-me-up. "Say Darren," he started, "Tell me about yourself."

"Not much to say, mate. Well, as you might have noticed, I'm from Hoenn. Born in Lavaridge, moved to Lilycove when I was really young. I got into swimming down by the sea, befriending all the Staryu and Wailmer." Darren sighed. "Pokémon are awesome, aren't they?"

"Couldn't agree more." Witthoefft said, smiling. This guy sounded pretty cool to him.

"Then, when I was in High School, moved to Olivine; swam there too. I prefer the Johto sea to Hoenn's, honestly. Filled with friendlier Pokémon. Some of those Wailmer got pretty territorial, let me tell you." he chuckled, Witthoefft accompanying him.

"So how'd you get here?" Witthoefft asked.

"Meh, I decided it was time to start a journey, so, hopped aboard the S.S. Aqua and was dropped off at Tohjo falls."

"How'd you arrange that?"

"My dad was mates with the captain."

"You say mate a lot, don't you?"

"So much I don't even know I'm saying it, mate."

The two laughed and looked at each other.

"You're a pretty cool dude, you know that? To be honest, I was having a crap day until you showed up."

"Glad to be of service," Darren replied.

Witthoefft sat up to check on Vici, who was running along the shore chasing Magikarp that she saw. Then she tried to get into the water, and quickly came back and shook her paws off. She didn't like the cold sensation. How silly. Tayna took a nice, cuddly position next to her trainer and was taking a nice nap on the warm sand. Darren sat up too and petted his fox, her quickly raising her head and her yipping contently.

Looking up, Darren noticed an odd fisherman with his rod in the water. "Hey," the scruffy Darren said, "Who's that?"

Glancing over, Witthoefft noticed the fisherman too. "Dunno," he replied simply. Witthoefft disapproved of fishing, since it was just like hunting for Pokémon in tall grass. Why take something from its natural habitat if it doesn't want out?

"Let's so see what his deal is," Darren suggested as he got to his feet and started walking.

Witthoefft went to protest, but Darren was too far away to call back. Not wanting to be a bummer, he got to his feet and caught up behind Darren.

"Hey, mate, what's your deal?" Darren asked playfully at the fisherman.

"Hm? Oh! Are you guys trainers?"

"Yep!" Darren replied enthusiastically.

"Then would you help me out, too? I've been trying to catch Magikarp all day, but without a single bite. However, a couple trainers today have helped me out and got plenty of success. Can you see if that luck is with you guys too? I'd make it worth your time!"

"Eh? Why do you want Magikarp?" Darren asked.

"Because one day, I see myself a trainer of an entire team of Gyarados," the man said.

"....How would you treat them?" Witthoefft asked suddenly. Darren looked at him oddly for a second, but then shrugged in agreement. If they were going to help this guy, they should probably make sure he's not abusive or anything.

"Oh, I'd care for each one individually to their needs. I want them strong and valiant, brave to the very core! To be confident and comfortable with themselves and their surroundings. I love Pokémon, especially Fluid-Types."

Darren looked at Witthoefft once again. "Seems nice enough to me, mate," he whispered before looking back.

"Any reason you're fishing here?" Witthoefft said. It was like he was subtly interrogating the man.

"The hatchery here in Cherrygrove breeds the cream of the crop here! Best Magikarp in all of Johto guaranteed!"

This.... this was hatchery? Witthoefft didn't know that. He assessed the situation further. If they helped this man, a Magikarp being cooped up in this hatchery and not able to roam free lands in the hands of a caring man thanks to them.

"We'll do it," Witthoefft said, much happier and sure of the man.

"Awesome! Thanks! Oh, by the way, name's Tully," The fisherman got up and shook the boys' hands. "Are you guys gonna need my fishing rod?"

"Nah.," Darren said in refusal, putting his hand up. "I got other ways."

"Okay.... how about you, son?" Tully said, motioning the rod towards Witthoefft.

"Um...." Witthoefft said hesitantly. This rod would probably be the only way he could catch the fish, but, yanking it out of the water seemed cruel.

"Ah, wait," Tully said, withdrawing the rod and rummaged through his satchel. The man pulled out what looked like weird trapezoidal box, with a yellow pod in the front, a hand crank on one side, and button on the other. "This is a Manning Four-Twenty, a new easy-to-use machine that catches light-weight fish with ease. I don't like using it, though. Doesn't give me a good enough fight when I hook something; I like fighters. Perfect for you, though."

Witthoefft took the box-thing. "Um, thanks."

"No, thank you two. Anyways, come by the fast food joint when you've got something to drop off to me when you're done." Tully adjusted his satchel and walked off into the city.

Witthoefft looked down at the contraption in his hands before hearing the sound of zipping. Looking up, he witnessed Darren taking off his sweatshirt, revealing his torso. My goodness, this guy was ripped. His six-pack couldn't have been more obvious.

"Wait," Witthoefft said quickly. "You're going to grab the fish right out of the water?!"

"Sure am," Darren replied happily. He started running off to the water. "Wish me luck, mate!"

....What a nutjob. Anyway,

Witthoefft walked over to Vici, who was still pacing back and forth excitedly at the shadows in the water.

"Hi Vici," He said.

"Vee? Eevee!" The feline joyfully said seeing its parent.

Witthoefft examined the box and held it like you would a rod. Not knowing what to do, he pushed the button. The yellow pod shot out from the device and landed into the water a short foot away. Huh. Witthoefft used the crank to pull it back in. He continued to crank, assuming that maybe the line would go further if he pulled it back. Once a loud "chink!" was heard, he pushed the button once more.

The pod shot out again, except this time, much farther. Once it landed, the pod opened, revealing a hook laced with colorful feathers to attract the fish.

Witthoefft felt a bit odd fishing. Was he sure he was doing this for the best interest of the fish? If the Magikarp wanted to come out, it would. Eh.... this whole thing was morally questionable. Why was doing this again? For a prize?

A faint pull came from the device. A fish? Witthoefft gripped the thing harder. It was subtle, but definitely there. A Magikarp was most likely brushing past it in curiosity. Witthoefft considered retracting the line and forgetting this whole thing.

Then before he knew it, a forceful tug came from the machine. The fish finally bit the hook. Witthoefft panicked a little before grabbing the crank and spinning it. The line went really fast towards the coast, gradually getting tougher as the Magikarp started to resist more and more. Oh, he knew he shouldn't have done this! He was taking it away from its habitat!

Vici whipped her tail back and forth, diligently watching the excitement. Right before Witthoefft was about to let go, the Magikarp leapt out into the air and landed on the shore, flopping erratically.

"Karp, karp, karp, karp, karp," it said. Although it felt like it resisted, the fish looked indifferent with its eyes frozen open. Maybe- Maybe the resistance was the weight difference of it being in the water to out open in the air? It did feel pretty easy dragging at first until it came closer....

Witthoefft knelled down and tried to see what he could do to calm it. Once the fish noticed he was there, it flopped considerably slower and lighter. The teen placed his hand on the side of the fish as it slowly grew closer to the ground. The Magikarp stopped flopping, looking up at Witthoefft.

"Magi?" it asked.

"Um, hi, I'm Witthoefft." He answered it.

The fish flopped once more; causing Witthoefft to pull his hand away. It slapped itself back on the sand after a moment had passed.

"Karp, karp." It said considerably calmer then before.

Phew. It didn't mind being out in the air.

"Eevee?" the feline asked, walking over and raising its paw.

"This is Magikarp, Vi-" Witthoefft started before the feline started dashing sand on it and giggling. The Magikarp clenched its stinging eyes and flopped.

"Karp! Karp!" it said in anguish.

Witthoefft didn't know what to do. Vici was just playing! He didn't want to discourage her! But, the sand was making Magikarp uncomfortable!

"Vi- Vici?" Withoefft asked.

"Eevee!" she cried in delight as the Magikarp continued to be covered. The sand on it has made it weight more, thus flop closer to the ground. It was gradually getting buried. Crap! It would suffocate of Vici didn't stop soon!

There was only one thing to do to save it. Capture. But, what if it didn't want to be captured and be trained by a human?! Oh....

The Magikarp started yelling its cry as it stopped flopping and was decently submerged in the sand. With a gulp, Witthoefft took out a ball. I bet it would prefer capture to death, he supposed.

He dropped the ball.

2.3 New Cities & New Friends

When a reply didn't come immediately, Adelaide switched to her PokéDex function on her PokéGear and checked out what she had seen today; a Togepi (obviously), an Eevee, a Pidgey, a Magby, a Geodude, a Bellsprout and a Hoothoot. That was pretty decent for a day's work, if she did say so herself. As she was reading about Hoothoot's habits and such, she heard somebody walk in. A trainer like her, no doubt. Though what she didn't expect was a bag to the face. She immediately threw it back at the trainer as he plonked himself on the opposite bed. Luckily, Connie and Py weren't hit. That didn't stop Adelaide from getting pissed off. Again.

"There's someone here, you ass," she almost spat at him. What was it with trainers and being complete idiots? First that trainer kid who kicked Py in the face, and then this kid! Only odd one here was Connie without the face hitting, though he did fall almost on his face when he fell out of the tree. She took a second to look at the kid. He was oddly familiar with his Pichu, though being familiar definitely did not mean he was going to get an easier time. "Stupid ass."

(OOC: Well, that wasn't really expected. XD)

Tyler was mildly shocked as his bag came flying back at him. It smacked him in the face and Isa got hit by it too.
"Pichu!" she yelled angrily.
"Oy! Watch where you're throwing that stuff! It's worth more than your life is!" Tyler said angrily, not even caring how hypocritical that sounded. He was far to angry to care. He shoved his bag to the foot of his bed and sat up, glaring at this person. Isa leapt off the bed and marched right over to her. Tyler didn't stop her.
"Pichu! Pi!" she said as she used Static Zap and tried to hit the girl in the leg.
"God, why did they have to give me a room with some brat like this?" Scott said to himself, but loud enough that his room mate/opponent could hear him.

2.4 New Cities & New Friends

The Zap hit like static electricity and Adelle's leg pulled back, like a reflex. It hurt, but only a little. Confucius and Pythagoras joined her side quickly and took a defensive position though as soon as she could move her leg properly again (which didn't take long), she waved her hands down. She did not want a fight in here at all. All she wanted to do was sit and relax and this guy had to ruin it.

"I'm sorry for hitting you, little guy, uh..." Adelle flicked out her PokéGear. Pichu it said, "Pichu, but not you." She glared back at the guy. Seriously, what was with all of these trainers?! Was it teen angst week or something? "Maybe you should watch it! People in glass houses should not throw enormous bags at people's faces. If it was so precious, then why did you heave it into my face?"

She shot him another look then got out from her bed and flicked her bag up to the top bunk above her now ex-bed. Muttering profanities under her breath, She picked Py and Connie up and climbed up the ladder and returned her attention to her PokéGear and away from this kid's ugly mug. Still no reply. Nrgh.

Isa was livid. This was the second time in one day that someone had called her a guy. She climbed up after the girl, determined to give her a piece of her mind.
"Pichu! Pichu!" she shouted angrily. She thought about zapping her again, but decided she didn't feel like it. She had already zapped the girl once.
"Whatever. It's not like I saw you sitting there anyway. And Isadora is a girl. What are you, blind?" Tyler groused from where he was sitting, using his own Pokegear to identify the Togepi and the Hoothoot. Isa glared angrily at him now. After all, he had made the same mistake when he had met her as well. She turned back to the girl.
"Pichu!" she yelled again. Having said her piece, she slid back down the ladder. She climbed back into Tyler's bed. He was now reading a book, totally ignoring the girl. Humans were so confusing. Oh well. Isa curled up in a little ball and glared at the bunk where the girl was, and then glared at Tyler. Tyler shrugged off her glares. He already knew she wasn't overly fond of him. But soon enough, he got sick of the glaring.
"Isa, what did I do this time?" he asked quietly. She glared at him.
"Pichu! Chu!" she said. Tyler scratched his head, having no idea what she was saying.
"Just try and get some sleep so we can get away from queen of the dumb in the morning," Tyler told her. Isa only lay her head down because she was sleepy. That was the only reason. At least, that's what she tried to act like.

We'll Have Chums Over Ev'ry Friday

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A slightly echoing mechanical "ping!" came from the ball as it stopped shaking. Witthoefft gazed at the ball with a gloomy countenance. Vici had stopped at the sound of the ball too, but seemed more curious and confused about it. Where had the fish gone? The teen picked up the ball and twirled it in his hand in examination. He doubted the Magikarp particularly liked being stuck in there.

"Vee?" Vici questioned, looking a bit anxious. What was her parent doing? Wasn't that her fish?

Loud splashing came from the coast before Witthoefft would've called out the new capture to give it some air.

"Oi! Mate!" said a hearty voice. Obviously it belonged to Darren. Turning back, Witthoefft eyes shone in awe as he witnessed his new acquaintance holding down a flopping Magikarp to his chest with both hands. That crazy son of a ***** literally had caught a Magikarp with his bare hands! "I see you got one these 'ere, too!" Darren said as he ran over.

"Dude! Who did you-?" Witthoefft started.

"Ay, caught 'em the old fashion way, mate. Just like in Lilycove." Darren smiled happily as the fish continued to squirm in his grasp.

"….Isn't that hurting you?" Witthoefft asked.

"Not at all, mate! Got 'em pinned down good, so he's only lightly tapping me at this point." The guy grinned at Witthoefft who, despite what he thought of fishing, smiled back. "Hand me a PokéBall, Witty, please. Don't want to 'urt this fella now if he starts to get frantic."

"Oh? Oh! Sure!" Witthoefft said, pulling out another ball for Darren from his pocket.

"Thanks, mate. Fishy will definitely be more comfortable in there then my arms." Darren said as took the fish in one arm and grabbed the PokéBall. A crimson light shot out as the button was pressed, sucking the Magikarp into it. The ball landed firmly on the ground and began to shake.

"Ping!"

"Alright!" Darren shouted, raising his arms in to air. This guy was sure eccentric.

----

"So does it make feel sexy not wearing a shirt or do you just downright not like them altogether?" Witthoefft teased. Instead of putting his sweatshirt back, Darren had simply slung it over his shoulder, revealing his bare chest for all the world to see.

"A little bit of both, mate. Heh." Darren answered, playing along. "Swimming all the time, I'm usually adjusted to not 'aving one. I'm not even wearing underpants under these trunks."

"Little too much information there, Darren." Witthoefft laughed.

"It sure makes it easier to be ready to get in the sack with someone, let me tell you." Darren said slyly, winking. What a freaking card! Witthoefft was in stitches as the walked to the fast food joint Tully said he would be in.

Their two Pokémon walked near their respective trainer, Vici strutting playfully a few feet away from Witthoefft and Tanya talking a shy stance near Darren's leg, glimpsing at Vici cautiously every now and then.

The door chimed with little jingles as Darren opened the door for Witthoefft into the restaurant. The place was little and quaint, a line of booths parallel to a counter with stools in a neat line going across it. Several alcoholic drinks lined the wall behind the counters on stained wooden shelves; obviously this place severed as a restaurant and bar. Witthoefft recognized a few of the brands. Not that he drank, oh no, it's just that some were commonly seen in his house in New Bark; laying on the floor half-drunken and staining the carpets near wherever his mother had passed out the night before.

"There 'e is!" Darren said suddenly after looking around. Tully looked up form his booth and burger at the sound of the familiar voice.

"Ah! It's you guys! Have any luck?" Tully friendly asked as they approached him. Several PokéBalls scored on the table, most likely containing the Magikarp he received from other trainers today.

"Sure did, mate! Two for two!" Darren happily said, planting the balls on the table.

"Wow, one from both of you? Why do the fish hate me so much?" Tully asked.

"Have you considered taking a shower?" Witthoefft snapped back jokingly. The trio laughed, causing a few heads to turn and a few eyes roll in the joint.

"Well I really appreciate it, guys. I want you to know that they're in good hands."

Witthoefft felt a bit happier at that statement. Maybe he had done good giving that Magikarp a new home…. still, the thought of prying it away from its natural habitat and previous home made him still feel a tad on edge and guilty. But, nothing much you could do about it now.

"Not good ones if you're talking about fishing!" Darren added in sarcastically. The trio chuckled once more.

"Okay, okay, time for rewards. Let's see…." Tully dug into his satchel, and left it open when he looked back at the boys. Sprinkles of light came from within the sack. "Hm…." Tully looked down at Darren's feet. "Is that a Vulpix?"

"Sure is, mate. Name's Tayna," Darren went down and picked up his Vulpix with one arm. She squealed bit in confusion, then joy.

"I have just the thing. When you want to give her some extra power, expose her to this," Tully said, reaching into his bag and pulling out a red stone.

"A fire stone?! I was just expecting some money or something!" Darren said in awe as he took the rock. "Thanks, mate!"

"Thank you," Tully said back. The fisherman looked down to Witthoefft's feet. He spotted Vici running around in circles around the teen. "Got an Eevee there? That can evolve into a bunch of different things."

"Yep. So…. are you gonna give me something else then a stone?" Witthoefft asked curiously.

"No, no…. but, I'll tell you what," Tully said, taking off his satchel and opening it up towards Witthoefft. "Reach into the bag and grab a stone, and I'm sure fate will provide you with what you need. I'm a bit superstitious like that."

"Heh. Alright," Witthoefft said, putting his hand in the bag. He felt rocky edges galore…. and picked the one with the weirdest texture.

Out came a yellow stone, emanating zany energy.

"Look like you're gonna have a Jolteon," Tully noted.

"An electric type? Sounds like the perfect match-up for Falkner's Wind Gym!" Darren commented. "Pretty nice for contest usage, too, if that's what you like."

Witthoefft smiled at the stone. It seemed to be the perfect choice for Vici, since the vibes of excitement and boldness coming off the stone were exactly like the Eevee.

….Wonder if Vici wants to evolve, though?

"It's getting dark, you two. There's an Inn in the Hospital's Minor Wing; you should get there before all the creepy crawlies come out."

"Sounds capital! Thanks for the stones again, Tully!" Darren said enthusiastically, beginning to walk away.

"No, thank you guys for getting those Magikarp for me," Tully said again, making sure that this politeness war had him with the ending word. Tully looked at the static Witthoefft gazing at the stone. Once the boy's eyes went to the fisherman, Tully nodded to say goodbye.

Witthoefft nodded back, walking towards the door to catch up with Darren, who was holding the door for him. Such a nice guy!

----

"Let's trade PokeGear numbers, mate. I'd love to see you again." Darren suggested as the walked.

"Sure!" Witthoefft replied, pulling out his pocketed machine. Right as he was about to press some buttons on the interface, he noticed the screen was different.

"NEXT TEXT MESSAGE FROM ????" It read, giving little "Open Now" and "Check Later" buttons.

"Oh, looks like someone texted me. Can you wait while I check it?" Witthoefft asked.

"Sure, mate. Absolutely," Darren said.

The text read "You in Cherrygrove yet?" once Witthoefft had opened it. Wonder who it's from. It wasn't a number in his PokeGear, that's for sure, since the "????" would've been replaced by a name. Who had his number, though? Elm, sure. But his Mom didn't have it.

….Adelle! Right! Witthoefft started avidly typing upon his realization.

"Hi, Adelle. Yes, been here for a while now. Heading towards Hospital's "Minor Wing" (?) now. How about you?"

Witthoefft made sure he had everything spelled correctly, since he was kind of a nut about those things.

2.5 New Cities & New Friends

"I said I was sorry, okay?" she said to the Pichu as it jumped off her bed and presumably went back to her master. Adelle clenched her teeth together at the boy's comment. Seriously, this kid was writing his own comebacks. At least Adelle had the comfort of knowing she was a whole lot smarter than he was. "I don't know, are you? You threw a bag in my face."

She ignored the boy's comment (because she knew that he was currently the most unintelligent thing in the room) and almost died of shock when her PokéGear chimed and vibrated in her hands. She picked it back up from her chest and read the screen.

New text message from "Witthoefft Evans". Tapping "Open Now", the actual text popped up on the screen. Hi, Adelle. Yes, been here for a while now. Heading towards Hospital's "Minor Wing" (?) now. How about you? Wow, he spelt her name right. Kudos to him. She quickly texted back a reply.

i'm in the minor wing inn. i am almost ready to slit a throat here and bake this guy into a pie so, you know, i'm okay.

"No, but low born scum like you simply doesn't register in my field of vision. After all, why should I care about those I am better than?" Tyler said nastily. She was mildly getting on his nerves. He decided not to call in his squad of goons that his father held on retainer for him. After all, he was a pokemon trainer. He had to solve his own problems. And if it came to it, he was ready to kick her stupid ass all the way back to New Bark Town. Isa was plenty strong enough to handle her, and he had Cyc with him as well. He flipped the page in his book and ignored her. She wasn't worth the effort it would take to convince Isa to stomp her flat. But, then again, Isa was currently angry at her. Maybe the Pichu would would want to teach this... This commoner a lesson. But, he wasn't going to start a fight. That wasn't the way you did things. No, but if she started it, he wouldn't hesitate to take her and her silly attitude down a peg or two.

(OOC: My gosh, Tyler is full of himself. :D)

Amanda Bel Route 29 - Remember Kids: Death = Apples.

Two hours into coming into Route 29; a single wild pokemon as yet to be found. Two hours. TWO. FLIPPING. HOURS. Those hours could of been spent building a hospital or something. Whatever; the narrator is not one to judge Amanda's trainer ability! (WAIT, YES HE IS, HEHEHE...)

In any case, Amanda was still with Raspberry the Smoochum, as they continued to wonder around Route 29.

"I don't understand!" Amanda hastily cried. "2 hours! NOTHING!"

"Smooooooochum! Smoooch." (Hah, looks like someone's face was just a bit too ugly today! ... ... ... It was yours, darling.)

"...This sucks." Amanda sighed as she sat on a rock, adjusting her baseball hat. "Being a Trainer? Owning a Pokemon? Wasting time on traveling? IT. SUCKS."

Raspberry then gazed upon the disheartened Amanda with a little pity.

"Smoochum!" (Come on girl; don't give up!)

"...I give up."

"Smoochum! Smoochum! Smoooooooochum!" (LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU, GURL!)

Amanda then quickly glanced at her Smoochum, then looked ahead on the road. She sighed as she went back up. She knew it was a pain in the ass...but she sensed that her Smoochum didn't want her to give up so easily. She was still unmotivated, however.

"That's easier said then done," Amanda said to Raspberry. "Sigh...well, its a pain in the behind, but fine. Raspberry, lets keep going."

Raspberry gave a brief smile.

"Smoooooochum!" (That's the ticket! Good show!) With that, they both decided to press on through Route 29.

Zephyr Chapter

No, It Has To Be Grocer; It's Green

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Alright, I think I got you typed in here correctly. Darren Fischer, Five-nine-five-nine-five-two?" Witthoefft repeated.

"Yep, that's it mate," Darren said happily as they walked through the sliding doors into the Hopsital.

"And you got me as....?"

"Witthoefft Evans, five-five-five-five-nine-nine," Darren chimed.

"So Fischer, eh? A guy who loves to swim named Fischer. Hm. Sure you're not a character in a cheesy novel or something?" Withoefft said, giggling.

"I know, I know. Sounds funny, doesn't it? Worst part is my Dad is actually a Fisherman."

"Was he inspired by his last name?"

"Sadly, yes."

The two were laughing as they approached a green-haired receptionist putting on her coat. She stopped once she saw them and smiled.

"Can I help you two gentlemen before I leave for the night?" she asked as she returned putting on her coat once more.

As Darren went in to ask about the Minor Wing, Witthoefft's PokeGear vibrated. Looking at it, it again read "NEW TEXT MESSAGE FROM ????" Must be Adelle again. Pressing the correct button, the text message revealed itself.

"i'm in the minor wing inn. i am almost ready to slit a throat here and bake this guy into a pie so, you know, i'm okay. "

Ehh. Witthoefft always disliked it when texts had bad grammar. But that was the last thing on his mind as he looked at the device oddly. Hopefully Adelle wouldn't punch somebody else in the face so soon before bedtime. He didn't need a scuffle scaring Vici.

"Eh? Why so glum, chum?" Darren asked, noticing his expression.

"I think I may be friends with Sweeney Todd," Witthoefft said. A slight pause followed between the two, Darren looking curiously at Witthoefft.

"Heh. Okay, mate." He simply replied. "Oh, and, the receptionist said to go that way and follow the signs." Darren pointed as he said this, and Witthoefft spotted a small piece of paper in his friend's hand.

"What's that?" he asked Darren. The said teen looked at the paper and crumpled it up quickly, tossing it over his shoulder before beginning to walk.

"The girl gave me her number." He said simply.

"Why you'd throw it out, then?" Witthoefft asked.

"Meh, not interested."

Witthoefft shrugged as they continued down into the corridors. This place was huge- hallways stretching down as far as the eye could see; room numbers in the thousands. It was a miracle that the two successfully made it to the door that had an informational sign reading "Minor Wing" above it.

"Guess this is the place," Witthoefft commented. Darren quickly opened the door for Witthoefft, the latter thanks the other as always. The place was indeed very nice, even though it was small. There were two stands, one with a familiar pink-haired nurse and one near rows of selves. Probably a shop.

"Just got into Minor Wing, Mr. Todd." he texted on his PokeGear to Adelle before closing it up.

....Wait, did he just called her Mr. Todd?! Crap!

2.6 New Cities & New Friends

"No, but low born scum like you simply doesn't register in my field of vision. After all, why should I care about those I am better than?" Oh god. Adelle almost slapped herself in the face. This kid. This kid! No respect to his elders or whatever. He was a touch better than that ass before who kicked Pythagoras in the face, at least he hadn't purposely hurt anyone, though what did Adelle know? This kid could be a raging murderer or something. Hopefully that wasn't the case since they seemed to be sharing a room for the night. She hoped to god the other people who stayed here would be a touch less, you know, reeking of jerk.

"You know, I'm getting a little sick of your crap," she jumped off the bunk bed, her bag swung over her shoulder, Connie on her arm and Py in her other. She turned to the curled up Pichu. "I am sincerely sorry that your trainer is a colossal douchebag. Good luck with the rest of your journey." Then she turned to the trainer. "I hope you hit your head on the bunk." And with that, she left the room and back out into the Inn common room. She probably could have left her bag on her bed but she did not trust that guy in the least.

The common room had a few leisures that Adelle was interested in; a couch. She plonked herself on it and returned to the same position that she was on her bed, though her Pokémon had moved; Connie on her shoulder, Py in her lap and her PokéGear in her hand. She felt a discomfort in her stomach and looked down at it. Erk, she was a little hungry. She'd probably grab something to eat later when she had simmered a little. Though her PokéGear had started to lack in interesting information and she was getting a little bored. She hummed under her breath to pass the time. What was the time anyways? Her PokéGear buzzed again. Another message? Yup. From Witt again.

Just got into Minor Wing, Mr. Todd. Adelle actually laughed out loud for that, earning a look from the lady behind the counter. She didn't bother texting back, rather getting up from the couch.

"Can I leave and...?" Adelle raised an eyebrow at the lady. She certainly didn't want to pay twice.

"Yeah, I'll remember you," she nodded in reply. With that, Adelle left and made her way upstairs, back into the Minor Wing. It didn't take long to spot Witt, he was too tall and shaggy to not spot, standing awkwardly in the middle of the Wing with Vici by his side. Though, someone was standing next to him. Someone who looked oddly familiar, though Adelle didn't pay much notice to it.

"How 'bout a shave?" she raised her eyebrows at Witt, putting on her best accent. She didn't really mean to be funny because dear god, Witt needed a shave.

Oh thank god she had the good sense to leave! Finally, he was alone.
"Have a nice night," he said, just to piss her off even more. Isa opened her eyes and glared at the girl.
"Pichu," she said dismissively and closed her eyes again. After a quick check to be sure she hadn't forgotten anything, he closed the door. Damn, no locks. Oh well, they would get the message if they weren't completely stupid. Which meant he could count on someone to come barging in on him (oh the irony). He returned to his book and continued reading about the legend of Mew.
