The First screen is my trying my hand at mapping a cave.
As, for the second, I tried to give the visual of something being far away, as this is a dungeon visited later in-game. May need to try a different approach to showing the distance, if there's any ideas for how to?

This is a shot in the dark since I've never really worked with them in Essentials, but have you tried a parallax for the distance? Creating your own image for it would be relatively simple with GIMP / Photoshop / even Paint if you have the patience.

It may be tricky to get the parallax working how you want but it's definitely possible.

Redone everything from my previous shots.



This is the second town, where you usually do that mission to get the Pokédex, etc.
The Sign next to the Mart will serve as a Mission Board, which'll give you plenty of sidequests to do, if you're bored of the main story.
[each town will have different goals]



And, my weak attempt at spriting.
Trainers are not my forte, but, this is your Rival, Markus, instead of being the average Let's get gym badges rival, he holds a higher purpose in the story, and the evil team's doings.,

Here's an attempt at a route just outside of the hometown. (Ignore the black area on the leftmost part, haven't connected the next town yet)

And here is an "exaggerated" version of "Trainer Tips," which is inspired by some subway posters (where I got that huge image above the dialogue, and is currently a placeholder).

Here is a screenshot of the newest Gym in my game. This is the 6th Gym in my game, the Flame Gym. Credits go to Sam24 for OW sprites and Torches/Animating flames. Don't steal please.

You should tweak the light posts so that the light is actually coming out of the bulbs instead of off of the edge.

Nice water effect! I wanted to try this too and now I see it can have a really good render. I just find the left one strange, I wouldn't put water current between a rock and the border.

Also, is this a 32*32 tileset? It's hard to find some 32*32 sets, most of them are 16*16.

A screenshot of my fangame wherein a battle between the player and the first Gym Leader has started. The Gym Leader is wearing a hanbok with Sylveon's colours and has a Joseon-era styled hair. The hair's the hard part in the sprite.

I kind of like the look of the game, however all the textures make it seem, hmm grainy? But yet it still appeals to me, odd and different.

It's a damn nice start!(also I don't know why but when I was a rom hacker I always used the cameraman for my player too lol, it's just so delightfully creepy). Only crit I got, and I'm not too well versed in unity but I'm sure it's possible, is that I'm not a fan of real time shading with the pixel textured look. Shadows are okay so long as you get them as close to their frlg counterparts, but stuff like specular and general shading just look odd imo.

Also I know you're using a flat plane for the trees, but the perspective of them being like 4 times as small as the buildings is a tad odd. Other than that, it's a great start. Keep it up

Started trying to make some tileset with 32*32 pixel resolution (instead of the 16*16). Still not sure about the grass, but for a first try, I'm not disappointed.



I tried to remake the player sprite in double resolution too. It looks large, but it could be an interesting style. Maybe I'll keep it.

(Grass and dirt tiles are from me, trees and cliffs are from existing tilesets but I totally remade them)

It looks like it could be good, but I dislike how those trees/shadows are going over the path.
You will also have to disable small screen mode in your game.
