You really are on a roll tonight txteclipse. Are those handdrawn by you, or someone else? Either way, these pics are really giving me an uncontrollable urge to begin drawing st00f.

Lol, just realized that Astinus said "fire", not "fireplace". Misread by me lolololololololololololololol.

They are drawn by other people, mostly on deviantART. If I was in the right situation, however, I'd post my own stuff.

And there could be fire in the fireplace, so you aren't entirely wrong.

Conspiracies...I usually try to avoid those. And I've never been a part of one that I know of.

Actually, the house down the street was on fire, and I went outside, and all I smelled was barbecue. Cooked flesh smells somewhat delicious.

I was hungry after that.

Wait. Don't living things tossed in microwaves explode? That's one of the results of being in a microwave/eating microwaved food constantly. The molecules are torn apart and changed, among other things.

So, I believe that bunny would be rotating on the dish in the microwave, blinking innocently, and then BAM! Bunny guts everywhere. Oozing off the sides of the microwave. Little gray bunny brains getting caught on the hinges.

XD

Well of course the leader of the conspiracy wouldn't admit it XD
Just kidding lol.

Anyway, what were we talking about again? Poetry? And something about a slogan?

I feel that if we want PFF to continue without adding to the already massive amounts of spam, then we need to contact an admin about adding a subforum for poetry with its own set of rules and whatnot. We should also find someone who can effectively review poetry, since Astinus has already admitted her inability to do so, and have them report to our favorite moderator which fics meet the minimum requirements so she can lock anything breaking the rules. I would do this, but I never cared much for poetry outside of the simple stuff, so I won't be able to differentiate a good or bad poem by more than just rhythm.

EDIT: I just realized that we already have a subforum for poetry. It's called the Revision Bin XD. Okay, Okay, that's a bit too far, but lol.

Call me crazy, I think you guys are getting worried too much over a lot of poetry filled with spam right now. Yes, there's the problem with them just being tack and all, but I don't think adding poetry into this section will suddenly bring in a lot of them.

So, uh, I don't know about you, but I'm thinking bunny pâté here.

Mmm. With crackers.

Agreeing with Bay here.

(First off, can I say that no one would be able to follow this thread? We go from poems to porn to cookies to Buckethead to fire to exploding bunny brains to poetry. Go us!)

PFF could always have poetry posted here. In fact, it says in the rules for OW that Pokemon poetry goes here. (I know. I checked.) Just because this section is labeled for poetry now doesn't mean that all of a sudden, we're going to be flooded with poems about Skitty, Wailord, and porn.

I would love it if someone or some people would become my helpers in keeping poetry standards high here for poems. They could even write a few rules/guides about poems that I could throw into the rules thread, just to make it easier.

But is this going to be some huge wave of Pokemon poems? No. There will be the occasional few like we've had before. And I hope that I can trust you all to treat those poems the same as the fics posted here. Which means that reviewing guidelines are the same.

But, I mean, I think you're all making a big deal of this "Poetry" that's now tacked onto our section's name. The admin who changed the name was probably just thinking of making it clearer that "PFF is where Pokemon poems go, guys! :D", and I see where he's coming from. Because it would be kind of confusing to someone wondering where their Skitty poem goes.

But yeah. No need to think "Drowning in poems!" here. It's all going to be fine. I know. I've got crystal balls.

Besides, I think the whole "poems are going to be bad" part is going too far as well. I've met published poets in my college days. (I sound so old. ;o; ) Not all poetry is crap. Not all fics are crap. Not all poems are good. Not all fics are good. It's going to be a mixed bag of quality, with whatever we get.

I had no idea poetry was such a big deal. o______________o

(Good gods, I am counting down to November 11 so I don't have to deal with this for a long while.)

Congratulations: We've posted two pages in a day. What the heck.

My mindset is not that poetry is crap, it's just that very little poetry that has been posted here fails to prove otherwise. Of course, if we compare the ratio of good poetry to bad poetry while doing the same with fics, then I think it will come out just about even. The only difference is that there are more fics than poems, a lot more in fact, so the mass of badfics are covered up by good ones. However, since there are very few poems, it is all too easy to focus on just the bad ones and make hasty generalizations about the entire form of writing.

I am aware now that I didn't make it clear that I don't think poetry is crap. I'm sorry if it seemed like I thought poetry was inferior to fanfiction in any way.

Hah, I just read the whole thread normally. Just to see how crap the fanfiction was. Or what kind of bump it was. :D

And how the hell did you guys get 2 extra pages in the day I was asleep and at school?

My turn for a name poem. Hmmm.... Anyone except Astinus, because if I screw up I'm screwed.

Aw great, I was hoping to stay out of this but look at what you've made me do now. Mine's a little more serious though, I'm not so great at imitating n00bs and such.

Sitting atop his evil throne,
Henchmen scurrying to and fro,
Runes gather 'round his hand,
Imaginary it all is, though.
Kingdoms existing only in the mind,
Ever-coming inspiration to be wrote.

For in the mind,
Legions of ideas abound.
A little sci-fi here,
Magic and fantasy there.
Enigmatic sometimes,
Straightforward other times,
Theologies never before worshiped even,
All are a part of the mind of a dreamer.
Reality be damned.

I wish my name wasn't so long... -_- I don't know how obvious I've made it in my past posts, but I really am a dreamer. I can just get lost in my thoughts at times, drifting off into my own mind and thinking over various ideas, concepts, plots, character; anything. I'll sit in class and "model" in my mind some some new piece of equipment (lately it's been the USS Battlecarrier Andromeda starship and the Vesper fighters it carries for a one-shot I'm writing <_<), or play out an upcoming scene in my mind, adjusting various details so it "looks" good and can be translated to writing easily. Whereas other people doodle in their notebooks to pass the time during boring classes, I just imagine, doodling in my mind.

It's funny, with how much I imagine and think over my fics, you'd think I'd write more. :D

As for bunnies in microwaves...blood! Gore! MWAHAHAHAHA, I SHALL FEAST UPON ITS RADIATED CORPSE!

Sometimes, however, a lot of people enter (excuse me, astinus, that word does not always have a "d" after the "n" get over it) into a poetry thread/class thinking that writing poetry is easy. It's actually a very common line of thought for anything that's shorter than a "short story", like drabbles for instance.

I've seen people repeatedly say, in other communities online, that drabbles and the ilk are easier to write than any other prose stories because they're "shorter". The trouble with that line of thought is that drabbles are actually much more difficult to write than short stories because you're working with a short word limit. You're trying to convey a message in 100 words exactly. (Drabbles+ are longer, but not much longer.) So the writer of a drabble has to think a lot about what word choice they're going to make to say what they want to say, have the impact they want it to have, and still make that word limit.

It's like with poetry. I remember back when I honestly wrote poems that I would think a lot about what word I would use to catch the rhythm, keep it constant, and so on. (I wish I could find that old notebook of mine easily. x.x)

Don't think I'm ranting at you in particular, POB. (XDXD) It's just that it's a common misconception about poetry, that it's really easy to write, so those who want to write but want an easy way out write poetry because they think it's easy. So then low-quality poems make an appearance because of that.

Does that kind of make sense?

So yeah. I can see where you're coming from, POB.

There are a few good poems in OW that I've read. CWTA,P's, Color Me Evil's, and Mobile Tsk's poems are good. And like I kind of said, I have a few poems that were highly rated lying around in some notebook somewhere in my closet with Andy <3.

But...yeah. I understand your point of view.

CWTA,P wrote a poem? Wow.

Hah, I wrote a ballad on an assignment for the Rime of the Ancient Mariner and got 20++ for it. :D Poem, ballad, same thing, really.

Anyway, why are we arguing about poems again?

PS. Toasted rabbits sounds nice.

Aww, damn, I went to sleep and missed the best parts :<

I just had to take the challenge, I'm sorry, fuzzy bunnies!
Spoiler:

And this is really random, but he asked for it:

Pichu is a loser!
Only the best survive!
Super humour to the test!
This far, this has not been a name poem at all!

Oh, the vast internet!
Fanfics everywhere!
Fuzzy bunnies explode!
I don't know why, but who cares!
Coming with a parody he
Ends the life of Sir. Aaron!

By the way
Unless you knew
Dude, write another parody!
Does Pichu overcute him?
You never know!

Although I've understood that according to the rules of making crappy name poems if you have two same letters, the same line (what the heck is that word?! I can't remember!) should also be doubled. Or something. Ahem.

I think everything's going to be fine with this poetry section, because, well, we haven't seen an awful lot of poetry this far. Of course we'll get the couple of bad poems (not to mention they'll probably appear in the wrong section, too) but the ones who really are interested about poetry will also be the ones to get excited about this. I have another point, too: because poetry is rather hard, not many people want to use their time making Pokémon poems. It's hard, really, I've tried. A lot harder than writing fanfiction. My guess is this will never be a huge success.

Although, I might be terribly wrong. Feel free to mock me when there's a new name poem or something of the like every three seconds.

Oh, and about the easiness of poetry: back in elementary school we had to write poems one year. I was always good at that sort of thing, I did it for fun and all that, and it was the same for many of my friends. But some of our classmates got all whiny and said that they couldn't do proper poems. Want to guess what our teacher said?
"Oh, they don't have to rhyme or anything. Just put some sentences together."
Then, she made an example. Of course the example was in Finnish, but I'll loosely translate it to you:
Christmas tree.
Standing in the room
Giving light and sparkling.
Gifts are under it.
Christmas tree.

So, we were taught meaningless modern poetry right from the start. She didn't say a word about rhymes, rhythm, nothing. She taught us that poems are simply short train of words that are split up to different lines in a funny way. After that, it's no wonder kids don't appreciate poetry at all.
Now, I know not all poems have rhymes and all that, but it doesn't mean that you can just write some random stuff, hit enter randomly while you go, mystify some parts a bit and then call it poetry. Right? Right?
Of course, the worst part was that those poems were to be read out loud in a school festivity and our teacher made every single one of us write poems pretty much like that example I gave you. Our poor parents had to listen to 25 poems like that... Well, about a half of us put in rhymes. I think mine was about the smell of Christmas or something. I don't really want to think about that.

And to think, in that very same festivity, I was forced to play a recorder (you know, the flute) with three other kids while the setting of a play was changed. So, we stood there on the stage for five infinite minutes, playing a horrible Christmas song (one that has only four different notes) with those dreaded instruments over and over and over again. And you know what? After about ten minutes, they changed the setting again! I think our parents must have loved that show!

It is quite true that if you compare modern poetry to classic, or that which was written even a few decades ago, the quality has decreased greatly. My A.P. English teacher in high school once told us about a poem about a red wheelbarrow or something that had like 4 lines, no rhythm, nothing, and it received great acclaim by modern critics. No one in that classroom that day understood how such a travesty could have occurred.

The reason that I never really got into poetry was because we were forced into it when I was in seventh grade. To make it worse, my intern forced me to share a depressing poem that I had wanted to keep private to my class. To them it probably sounded like I was whining, but it was the most accurate way I could express my feelings.

Ever since then, I have avoided poetry as best I could. I suppose this is a result of mental scarring, and that I should try to overcome it, but I'm not sure how quickly I could possibly jump back into poetry...

Eh, many of us are in different time zones or in different schedules...or sick like me, so pretty much we decide which topic we want to talk about. ^^;

Not going to attempt the name poem of my name. It would be very, very, short. XD I think the best poem I had written is actually the beginning lines of "Nothing, Everything." XD

History.

Faded and remembered.

Can be looked at differently.

Always repeated.

Can affect both present and future.

If broken, how much will it be worth?

You actually won't believe what inspired that piece (that poem, I mean). XD; As for my other poems, I don't want to think about it. ^.^;

To keep with current trends, I'm afraid this is necessary.

Tacit words
Xanthic eyes
Tantamount to any trials
Eon's child
Captive yet wild
Loquacity worthy of renown
Illumined down
Pentagonal crown
Sentinel of Altomare
Evader extraordinaire

Yeah. I needed a thesaurus for that one. And no, I'm not a Latias. You know, in case anyone was wondering. I see those pokeballs! Don't even think about it!
