I started with Crystal first because I had just done 2 runs of blue so I didn't feel like doing another and I need to trade a Scyther to one of my other versions for a Scizor.

Update on Ultimate Blue Monocolor Challenge.

Final Update (#3) on HeartGold.

  • Went to the Battle Frontier and got lots of BP for Seed Bomb and some TMs, then sailed to Kanto.
  • Did the Power Plant quest first, then defeated the Kanto gym leaders in order. Blue was the toughest fight as usual.
  • Grinded on the Elite Four and Gym Leader Pokégear rematches to get everyone to L70.
  • EV trained everyone a little bit, then finalized movesets for the fight against Red.
  • While I was doing that, I ran into a *SHINY* Wooper, which I caught and named Violet.
  • Used my Rare Candies to get everyone to L73, then scaled Mt. Silver and arrived at the peak to battle Red.
  • Here's a video and play-by-play of the battle:

Alright, I figured it was time to take another crack at this, this time in Gray!

Username: Feraligatr13
Game: Red
Color: Gray

I used the Universal Pokemon Randomizer to set Machop as my starter in place of Bulbasaur and I also removed trade evolutions and lowercased names. I've even got some screenshots ready, even though my VBA derped out and deleted the first Blue win :l

No bag items in battle, Set mode, no Mega Evolutions, Amie, Super Training, etc. At least three hours went into final training :P That said, i'll likely do more Mono-Color stuff on XY eventually, and hope this can motivate some of you into doing the same thing. ;D

Update on Ultimate Blue Monocolor Challenge.

Update #2 on Emerald.

  • Beat the rest of the trainers on Route 116, then defeated May before hitching a ride to Dewford Town.
  • Went through Granite Cave and found Steven, then took on the gym.
  • Brawly was tough as I was underleveled and Swift was not strong enough, so a team effort was required here.
  • Directly after the battle, Lagoon evolved into Marshtomp!
  • Went to Slateport City and defeated all the trainers on the beach, then foiled Team Aqua's plans in the museum.
  • Went north to Route 110 and defeated May easily enough, then arrived in Mauville City.
  • Tried mixing records with a Sapphire save to try and get a Surskit swarm to appear, but gave up on that idea.
  • Trained up my team on the trainers around Mauville City, and Titan, Tuba, and Swift evolved into Metang, Loudred, and Swellow!
  • Took on the gym and defeated Wattson easily, mostly with Lagoon's Mud Shot.
  • I am now saved in Mauville City.

I'm sad that I need to make a double post here after a month of inactivity. Challengers where art thou?!?

Update on Ultimate Blue Monocolor Challenge.

Update #3 on Emerald.

  • Went north from Mauville City through Fiery Cave to Fallarbor Town, then continued on to Meteor Falls.
  • Circled back through Rusturf Tunnel to Mauville again, then headed up Mt. Chimney to defeated Team Magma and Maxie.
  • That done, I hopped down to Lavaridge Town, where I took on the gym, and Flannery was no match for Lagoon.
  • Got the Go-Goggles from May and explored the desert, then made my way back to Petalburg City to challenge the gym.
  • Norman was tough as usual with his Slaking, but a team effort defeated him easily enough.
  • Got the Surf HM and taught it to Lagoon, and we took a nice ride on the water to the Abandoned Ship and on to Slateport City.
  • Did the New Mauville sidequest, then headed over to Route 119 to get to Fortree City.
  • Along the way there, Lagoon evolved into Swampert!
  • Defeated Team Aqua at the Weather Institute, then beat May easily, mostly with Swift, who I then taught Fly to.
  • Arrived in Fortree City, then found Steven, who gave me the Devon Scope so I could get into the gym.
  • Winona was a complete pushover, falling to a Titan Rollout sweep.
  • I am now saved on Route 120.

OK, I'm gonna take on this challenge, for the glory of the Olive Kappa fraternity!

Username: OliveCopper
Color: Red
Game: White 2
Ultimate?: No

This is gonna be tough, as there are no Red Pokémon in the Unova Dex that can learn Surf that are available before the seventh badge, in which Surf is necessary.

Also if a Pokemon evolves into a Pokemon into a different color, and then evolves back to the target color, how should that be handled?

It's all about the final evolution, just try to evolve it as soon as you can. :) Glad to see a new face in here, good luck!

Also, as for a Surfing Pokémon that is Red, you could hack in a Corphish egg, as it is part of the Unova Dex for some reason, and since it isn't available until the postgame, it is thus allowed per the rules on hacking in this challenge. {:3} It's up to you whether to do so or not, HM slaves are your friends if not!

OK, took the initiative and started the save file, since I don't know how to hack in an egg in a White 2 Rom, but I do need that Corphish/Crawdaunt. I promise I'll upload a bigger update once someone tells me how.

Game Start!
-Started the game, and met Hugh.
-Recieved Tepig from Bianca, nicknamed it "Teppy".
-Defeated Hugh and his Oshawott.
-Purchased 10 Pokeballs at the PokéMart in Aspertia City.

Spoiler:

Team

Teppy (Tepig Lv. 6)
Ability: Blaze
Moves: Tackle, Tail Whip

Also, since Whirlipede is purple, I can't evolve the soon-to-catch Venipede until Level 29, right?

I pretty sure you could have just used pokegen on your save to create an egg with corpfish.

Edit: I finished up to the first badge so I'm making an update

Update 1:
- Choose Charmender as my starter named him Sriracha
- As I left the lab I won battle assigned a LAMEO (VBA messed up the screen shot)
- Usual beginning stuff that I don't want to talk about
- Got to Pewter after burning more then enough bugs
- Went back to have another battle with LAMEO
- Did a small grinding session to get to lvl 16 so Sriracha can evolve
- Brock was a little bit easier then expected Sriracha scored an OHKO crit on the Geodude and 4HKO on the Onix after an attack boost
- Got a nice pair of running shoes (Why can't we run without them) (Also why do we have to wait until after the first badge to get them dumb scriptwriters)

Current Team:

Update to Pokemon White 2 Mono-Red Run.

-Pokegen'd myself a Corphish egg.
-Defeated a Lv. 4 Wild Patrat to get Teppy to Level 7.
-Defeated the first few Trainers on Route 20.
-Defeated Hugh in Floccessy Ranch.
-Defeated the Janitor and Lass in Floccessy Ranch.
-Rescued the lost Herdier.
-Grinded Teppy to Level 12.
-Defeated the Schoolkids in Alder's House.
-Recieve the Medal Box from a strange man.
-Alder informed me that Aspertia Gym's got a new Gym Leader.
-Recieve Oran Berries from Alder.
-Defeated the Aspertia Gym Trainers.
-Lost to Cheren on the first battle, that dog...
-Rematched Cheren and single handedly won!
-Bianca gave me a C-Gear
-Bianca updated the PokéDex, repeditively explaining it, annoying me a lot.
-Defeated Hiker Jerome.
-Searched the Dark Grass for a Venipede.
-Successfully found and caught one, and nicknamed "Pokeymanz"!
-So what? It's a Poison-type, and my gut has a habit on nicknaming Poison-types "Pokeymanz".
-Got into the eyeview of all Trainers on Route 20.
-Roxie barks insults at her dad, then gets fed up, bolting over to her gym.
-The constant dying of Pokeymanz became a running gag.
-Beside that, I continued grinding in the Virbank Complex.
-Defeated the Virbank Gym in one try.
-Took a detour to PokeStar Studios.
-Was forched to watch "Pop Roxie"(Roxie's dad)'s debut movie.
-The movie got bad reviews, Roxie was right. If your daughter means something, you must listen to her.
-Showed the old coot how its done, by making my debut.
-The movie became a ginourmous success all around the world.
-However, since watching it was optional, I didn't do it.
-Confronted with Team Plasma in Virbank City.
-They get away, and Roxie rewards me with the Cut HM.
-The egg hatched into a Corphish.
-Once hatched, the Corphish unfortunately had no moves. Fixed it in Pokegen afterward.
-Even gave it the egg move "Metal Claw" for good measure.
-Teppy slammed down that thug girl on Route 20.
-Team Plasma escapes to Castelia City.
-Coprhish was weak, couldn't harm a firefly, so I went on with the grinding session.

Spoiler:

Team

499.png

Teppy (Pignite Lv. 21)
Ability: Blaze
Moves: Arm Thrust, Defense Curl, Flame Charge, Odor Sleuth

543.png

Pokeymanz (Venipede Lv. 19)
Ability: Swarm
Moves: Pursuit, Rollout, Poison Tail, Screech

341.png

Lox (Corphish Lv. 15)
Ability: Hyper Cutter
Moves: Bubble, Metal Claw, Harden, Vicegrip

Currently disappointed with Corphish (Lox), it can't even harm a firefly. It has an Adamant nature, with good physical attack and lame special attack, rendering Bubble pretty much a Water-type Constrict. Lox is garbage until it gets to a higher level that the next weakest on the team, Venipede (Pokeymanz). I'm gonna need to grind Pokeymanz a lot before getting this milestone.

Speaking of which, when Pokeymanz evolves into Whirlipede, it becomes Purple, therefore, it's gonna have to stay a Venipede until Level 29, in which I can immediately evolve it into a Scolipede (which returns to Red) at Level 30. Or is evolving it at Level 22 (the normal evolution level) fine?

To answer your question, yes, it can become Whirlipede whenever, even if it isn't your specific color. I was told as such when I asked regarding a certain other evolution, so i'm pretty sure it'd work here.

I had some more time to kill today so I completed some more of this challenge.

Update 2:
- Since the last update I got through Mount.Moon while there I caught a Paras that I named Cordecep
- I took the Helix Fossil from some greedy nerd (Not like it matters...)
- Outside a guy volunteered to teach Sriracha Mega Punch to witch I gladly got rid of scratch
- In Cerulean I battled LAMEO again as I left he gave me the Lame checker
- After looking over my current party I decided it could use another member and a ton of training before Misty
- After looking for an Oddish on Route 24 I caught one but I couldn't be creative so I called it Nuptup (It's not creative, a simple search on youtube will prove it)
I do know Oddish is classified as blue but Vileplume is Red so I'm going to use it. It will be evolved upon getting to Celadon.
- Got the S.S Ticket from Bill
- On the way to the S.S Anne Nuptup evolved
- Beat LAMEO aboard the S.S Anne and received HM 01 Cut from the Captain witch Cordecep graciously learned
- Went back to Cerulean and Nuptup sucked the life out of Misty
- After teaching Sriracha how to dig a perfect hole Lt.Surge got lost in the maze holes

Current Team:
Sriracha2_zps4005cdfa.png

Nature: Naughty
Moves: Ember, Mega Punch, Brick Break, Dig
Nuptup_zps6a8708ea.png

Nature: Brave
Moves: Absorb, Acid, Sleep Powder, Poison Power

Nature: Timid
Moves: Scratch, Stun Spore, Cut

Sorry to nitpick, but Gloom is of the Blue Color. Read the official pokedex colors on bulbapedia here. Official colors, I remind you.
