Did some searching today because I wanted to, for the first time ever, attach PokéMail to a Pokémon I intended to trade with a nice message. Turns out, this feature is inexplicably absent from Gen VI, including ORAS.

1) Did you notice its absence?
2) Why so you think this feature was removed?
3) Do you think they'll bring it back?
4) Did you use it in previous games?

I honestly think with WonderTrade that Mail could have finally found some utility. A shame they took it out of the Gen that could've made the best use of it.

I did notice it missing in oras and was very disappointed. It would be the first chance I'd have gotten to send pokemon with it. Over the years, GF has limited what you may enter that others can see. The last interations was the worst with players choosing a generic phrase and then picking 1 word off a list. This from the manual entry of gen 2. I think it was only a matter of time till they dumped that method of players communicating. It's never going to come back, like the fact that there will never be a basic message feature in trade. It would really streamline negotiations if you could atleast ask the other player if they have a specific pokemon.

I never even noticed this was absent Generation VI, then again I hardly ever used the Mail feature in the first place. I think the reason it was removed is simply because it didn't really serve much of a purpose, just like a small gimmick.

Pokemon with mail attached couldn't be placed inside a PC or be released and since you can only select Pokemon in your PC to wonder trade, that would be a problem lol.

The mail thing is something I've never cared about at all. Was it even in Gen V at all?

Funny thing about it is that hold mail was introduced in a time when it was more difficult to interact with other people with the games, but was then removed once it became easier to do so and online features greatly expanded for Pokemon. You did it backwards Game Freak.

I can imagine though someone Wonder Trading out Pokemon holding mail with censor-bypassing messages if it still existed in Gen 6. I'd probably get a laugh out of it, but not little Jimmy's mother.

In the previous generations it wasn't anything I ever made use of at all, and I do wish it could have stayed for this generation when trading Pokémon is easier than ever. Would've made for a fun way to thank people.

I actually sorta knew the Mail got removed this generation, but then again I didn't see any good purpose with it. I did sometimes use it for fun in older games but it's not really relevant since it's not really a beneficial item anyway.

I used to send some mail when I trade some Pokémon in older generations at times, so I noticed that it's missing when I find out that there is no Harbor Mail sidequest from Mauville City (in ORAS, that is) as well. Probably the mails are removed because it just serve as some gimmick, but I wish it will be back someday in case I want to send thanks message to anyone who trade with me.

I know right lol

That said, 3DS cartridges hold a lot more data than the GBA/DS ones. They could've kept the system and expanded on it :pink_frown: More choices for format and wording and a longer input list (I think we could do three before, which really is too short).

Something like:

[thank you]
[for]
[the]
[trade]

or:

[Pokémon name]
[is my favourite]

or:

[Thanks]
[for]
[the]
[battle]

Or whatever. You can't make "naughty" letters if it's like that :pink_tongue:
