I write in the present tense because, to me, it gives the reader much more insight as compared to past tense.

Well, that all depends on how you handle the writing. Most books I've read are written in the past tense. You can say the exact same things in the tenses, it's just the way it sounds that changes.

Look what happens when I turn your post into one utilizing the past tense:
Spoiler:
Same things are said, it just sounds . . . more natural, in my opinion.

@gimmipie - Oh, didn't notice that you edited in your post! lol

I'm unsure about being the first one to post, lol. (First from my mission, at least.)

Really? I sort of assumed each team would have a leader (a de facto one if not officially), sort of how Alicia is with her team. Judging by the one post at least... I thought it would be natural for the most experienced to lead, and for the leader to post first. Though it's perfectly fine if you don't want to.

(Also: Lovin' the borderlands theme, just finished the game about 2 weeks ago.)

@Nakazumi: I can see where you're coming from, but, it doesn't always work out that way. Past tense forces you to word your sentences in a way so that the tenses don't sound out of place. While, in present tense, you can describe what you want to as if it is happening second-by-second.

Also, for me, using third-person present-tense is an interesting experience. It's like watching a movie.

As long as nobody randomly shifts into first person I don't mind too much, I personally prefer to read and write in third person but I see no real reason to debate over it. But seriously no first person.

@ Geras - It would make sense for other character to differ to Destiny's experience which could perhaps make her a de-facto leader of some sort but really who posts first etc... doesn't determine leadership the characteristics of the characters do. Really I imagine the groups as fairly equal and democratic where you just go with what works but as I said character traits will probably influence that.

Well, perhaps, but . . . I don't know, lol. I have to get to bed now anyways. I stayed up an extra fifteen minutes scrolling down this . . . horrible, horrible web page of all these . . . horrid, horrid pictures. ._.; I survived it, though! xD
(also, what gimmepie just said, lol)
EDIT: Oh, and thanks~ I'm actually still playing it. I'm kind of only playing my main character, a Siren, on the weekends when I'm with my friend that I started the game with. And considering we just started it last weekend . . . although, I've gotta say, we were both level 20 sirens after two nights (eleven or so hours) of playing, lol.

@RedWing - S'okay. I was just spouting my personal writing opinions, is all. Lol

Well RedWing, looks like Seth is going to... try... to be the better half. Assuming he doesn't have to roll to the Grim reapers as a head and get himself patched up. Don't want to think about what he'd have to do as the other kind :B

How awesome would a cactus-bow be, though? All prickly and green and able to smash people and make it sting? Even if it's not legit reaper powers is changing that~! :b

This sounds like a fun rp to be involved with. Is it too late for me to sign up?

Fine by me.

Name: Masato Ryu a.k.a. Shadow Walker (or just Shadow)
Gender: Male
Physical Age: 26
Actual Age: 401

Appearance: Typically, he stands at a somewhat short 5' 9", weighs 175 pounds. His build, when visible, is lean and a little muscular. He has short black hair that is kept spiked and piercing blue eyes. It is said that in the shadows, his eyes may look like blue flames, piercing their target's soul. His skin is a little paler than normal due to him wearing his traditional attire most of the time.

His attire consists of black tights, a tight-fitting long-sleeve black shirt, and specially-made black footwear to minimize sound made while walking. He has a small belt with two small hidden pockets and two openings which contain his weapons' sheathes. He always wears fingerless gloves to not hinder his finger dexterity. He wears a mask; however, its far from traditional. It covers most of his face, leaving a half-circle near the bottom, exposing his mouth and chin. It is secured by a strong band around the back of his head and is black, as well.

Personality: The duality of his personality is as divided as a coin. When he's not on a mission, he likes to have fun. Not so much watching TV or playing video games...he likes being active. Hiking and exploring are his favorite things. He jokes around a lot and likes talking to people. Sometimes, hanging out (for lack of anything better to do) is a lot of fun and beats being alone. He is also loyal to his team and clan, trusts those he works with until given enough evidence not to trust them, and is willing to speak his mind.

When he's on a mission, however, he's like a completely different person. He focuses on the task at hand and does not take any interruptions lightly. He closes out his emotions so as not to effect his judgment, appearing even cold and distant. He keeps to the shadows, always mindful of his training, until forced to act, which is why he was given the name Shadow Walker. He has no qualms with fighting hand-to-hand nor with killing someone, although he hadn't killed before. His pride does not allow him to abandon any mission or teammate, forcing him to continue on until the end, for better or worse.

Weapon(s): His weapons are nothing more than twin bladed tonfas (if you don't know, think of the assassin's weapons from Hellboy) that now have been enhanced to never dull or break, thanks to the magics that were exposed to him. His equipment that he carries at all times consist of a set of four cat claws (to help him climb walls) and a lockpick set. He keeps them in the hidden pockets on his belt.
Past Life: Masato Ryu was born in 1612. His father was a bodyguard for Tokugawa Ieyasu, the savior of the last remnants of the Iga ninja clan. From a young age, he was disciplined in the art of the ninja, not only learning from the Iga clan, but also from the Koga clan, who were hired for specific tasks. He, however, was slated for only being a bodyguard, which he thought was boring. He wanted a chance to show everyone what his training taught him, show what he was made of. Hearing of the Christians in Shimabara and what they were doing, Masato saw his chance. Stealing some extra garb from a Koga clansman, he joined their ranks and joined what later became known as the Shimabara rebellion.

Masato found joy and satisfaction beyond compare when he left his home in favor of the battlefield. Using his skills only for reconnaissance, he would inform his superiors of changes inside the castle. Everything was ok, until he was discovered by the enemy. He fought them off courageously, but was wounded deeply before escaping the confines of the castle. When he reported in, he was discharged from their ranks for possibly putting their lives now on the line. He dared not to go home, feeling shame for not adhering to his father's teachings. While mending his wounds in a hidden alcove in the mountains, he was discovered by a reaper who was impressed with his courage and heart. Masato was taken to Limbo, to begin his new mission...as a reaper.

Special Gifts/Talents: While his reaper abilities make his stealth and fighting more powerful, he was given magics to help more for gathering intelligence. First, he has been given a healing ability, basically erasing any damage that the victim took, but only works if the victim is still alive. The healing takes a toll on his energy, causing him to be dizzy and disoriented for a short amount of time. He also has the ability to copy exactly the appearance of any mortal he chooses, down to eye color and voice modification. He also copies the clothing that he remembers them wearing. However, he does not copy their skills, abilities, or thought patterns. This is useful mainly for getting in somewhere without being recognized.

He sounds reasonable although I really see little reason for reapers to require all of this stealth. You're in though. Check the IC for your mission.

Redwing, can I say something? You've already posted three times in our mission, whereas the others have only posted once, and dcjboi hasn't even had a chance yet.
You've also kind of replied to Byrne literally not doing anything, changing Alicia's tack from "Let's go and get some information" to "Introduce yourself", even though nothing has changed at all IC. Alicia has actually asked specifically Byrne to reveal any specialist abilities, and the only thing that has changed in my post is that the reader knows that Byrne is trying to hold exactly that information back. Don't get me wrong, it's a sensible thing for her to have asked, but not immediately after suggesting a plan of her own. I deliberately left it open for dcjboi or Ducklett to post a response to Alicia's plan, because Byrne simply wouldn't. It then also gives either or both of their characters opportunity to know a little bit about Byrne which is potential currency for them. It feels almost as if you're writing competitively, with the intention of 'defeating' your fellow players. I'm sure that's not what you're doing, but I hope you can see why it feels like it.
Sorry to bring it up, but I'd rather say it sooner than later.

That's it, total anarchy! We're already getting competitive and we already have others challenging such competition! There's only one solution: a fight to the death!

You heard me.

Lol. I'm just joking. xD (But, srs, you guys should fight to the death. It could be amusing! . . . that was also still a joke, even though I said "srs". See how that works? xD)

Anyways, I'm writing my first post right now, so it shouldn't be too long before it appears. d:

It's not quite total anarchy :P
Just a minor crease in the bedsheet of destiny which must be ironed out for fate to take its course.
And if that isn't poetry, I'm a monkey's uncle.

Why are we talking about Destiny's bedsheets?
Are you some kind of pervert?
xD

Also, gimmepie, what's the date in the roleplay? I can't remember if it was mentioned anywhere . . . and in a roleplay where you travel the world in very little time, the date is quite important.

Alicia is a complex character.

She has little to no memory of her past, and while I had hoped to reveal it in the actual IC, her main objective is solely to regain her memories. Her motives and tactics are centered around that sole objective, hence why she's more or less trying to take charge and get the others to do as she says. I'm not trying to compete with anyone, but simply push Alicia's true intentions to the forefront of her character.

Also, as for the quick change between her plan to interrogate the natives to asking about the abilities of her allies: Alicia is calculating and quick to shift her gears as the situation asks for. Just because she asks a question doesn't mean she's abandoned her other plan.

I've participated in several other RPs using even more complex characters than Alicia is. If my methods discomfort you, then I apologize, but I promise I am in no way attempting to GM or out-do anyone else.

I understand Alicia's character (and I know a little of Pandora Hearts, so I'm really not surprised that she's mainly after her memories). Her motives aren't in question. It's more that I feel like you've been overenthusiastic in your playing style, and have had Alicia respond to things that she shouldn't really be able to respond to: right after suggesting something completely unrelated, Alicia very clearly asked very specifically Byrne about exactly the thing he was keeping back, immediately after I wrote that Byrne was keeping it back. I'm sure Alicia is very calculating, but doesn't that seem a little bit like GMing to you?
As I say, I'm sure you're not doing it intentionally. Nobody intentionally steps on others' toes during an RP - but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Just for that, Destiny is going to intentionally step on every ones' toes.
Who would care for a dance? :3

Also, I posted, lol.

Well, to be entirely honest, I had her ask about Byrne's abilities without reading that bit of your post.

She asked more out of knowing what she was dealing with as compared to really knowing Byrne was holding anything back. A matter of coincidence, really. Byrne can downplay his powers and Alicia will be known the wiser, just suspicious.

Sorry if I'm coming off as overenthusiastic ;o_o

It's cool. I don't want to come across as aggressive, or indignant; I was just a bit twitched, is all, and like to resolve issues as soon as they come up. I'll post on this one, but, if I may suggest, slow down a bit? Definitely let others keep up.
