Written for a Project

Canine
This dog that plays around
Smaller than my hands.
Take care not to step on it,
He is fragile, like glass.

Sleep all day,
For a half hour of play
There is something wrong
Then again, he isn't my dog

Care for him delicately
He will grow to be loyal and trustworthy
When he is gone,
They will miss him gravely.

Work must be done
Money is needed to care for it
Time is lost, time is money
Time is needed to care for it

"I'll take time from work"
The words of my father rang
"Then I'll go to work."
I responded, I think the dog is a burden

"I've come home from work"
Nobody responds,
I check his pen
It has prints of bloody paws

Desperately I call
But who would answer?
The vet has bad reception
And there is blood to clean

It's late, void of light.
The wind and snow outside hug my windows.
I dislike the snow, it's a bad symbol
A killer of innocence

Mother returns, she had done her crying
Father is still with it
The kids don't know what was taken
But I already knew, I already accepted.

It's too much money
To keep the puppy
But I asked why we wasted the time
And my dad said, "Love comes with time."
