"You! You've got a lot to answer for, you bloody cheating moron, an-! Wha? Aren't you supposed to be dead and the same person?" Hono watched the guy freaking out, and just sort of buried her head in one palm. "Hey, 'sup... Now get the hell down here because TREES ARE AWKWARD!"

Hono looked up as Renco replied. "Um, hey. I'd love to get down, but erm, I'm holding on to the tree with one hand and... well, y'know, I have my sister in one arm so it's hard to get down. Let me see if I can..."

"W-Wait, what??" Hono panicked and as her brother jumped down with her, she couldn't help but emit a startled scream all the way down.

"So, uh, where were we? Ah, right... So what's this about? Something about being dead? What do you want with her?" He looked to her. "Do you even know this guy?"

Hono stared at Renco with an annoyed look, arms crossed over her chest, and her lower lip jutting. "D-Don't do that again!!" She patted down her clothing, huffing slightly as she recrossed her arms.

"My turn, my turn!" Hono looked up as Shiren leapt down from the tree, landing somewhat softly on the ground beside her.

Hono looked to Robin as the boy approached, and a groan rose from her throat. Why were both the jerks here now!? Whatever happened, it was totally Turnip's fault. Speaking of him, she drew her new (favorite) katana and pointed it at him. "You're the moron, and I didn't cheat! And I don't have to answer for a damn thing!!" She sheathed her weapon, glaring, this time with a real look of annoyance. "I got the item and gave it back to Kagome, that's all there is to it! While all of you idiots were ready to just kill someone over it, trampling over my plan to get it so recklessly!" Her eyes darted to Robin. "Both of you."

She sighed outwardly. Saying all of that was fairly relieving; she needed to yell at someone, and she felt justified in it this way. "I bartered with the PK, got the cloak from him, and gave it to Kagome." She looked upward, scratching at her cheek a bit. "I mean, I was gonna keep it for myself initially, but..." She shook her head. "Then I'd be just like that guy. Well, minus the murdering." She paused in realization. "Oh yeah, and he forwarded me a message he'd received too. An anonymous sender gave him the order to kill Saito, so the cloak was just collateral." She turned back to Robin. "And what're you doing here?"

Level 15 //Second Floor: Urbus Dungeon

Aidan and his group arrived at the Boss Room. The player they found fighting salamanders had joined them in their trip after they saved him. The group asked why he was on his own assuming that he may have lost his guild, but promptly learned that his group was already at the boss room and he was just trying to get there to meet them, he was caught by surprise by the Salamanders and was honestly quite scared for his life. Thankful to the group, he promised to repay them later adding Vulcan as his means of contact. Leaving with a quick goodbye the player went to find his friends.

"So what do we do now?" Aidan asked once the player was off.

"We wait until they start planning." Vulcan put it simply.

"That's so boring though."

Aidan overlooked the crowd that had made their way to door. He saw the Black Knights blocking access to the door, the player they helped escort, and a number of other groups of players, as well as a number of solo players. Aidan's mind had been calm since saving the player, but on seeing this new sight Aidan immediately got up to greet it.

"I'll be right back."

Aidan then walked off, leaving his guildmates confused.

"So you made it huh?"

Aidan looked down to the helmed girl. She was sitting off on her own corner, sword standing in her lap. She turned her head to him, her eyes completely covered by the helmet. She gave no response and with a slow motion she returned her gaze to the crowd ahead. Aidan took a seat next to her. With a similar empty gaze he began speaking.

"You know I've been worrying a lot about you since you ran off earlier – since you left I've been trying to decide if I should go after you or just leave you to your own. I'm sure you can probably guess which I went with."

Aidan gave a soft chuckle.

"I guess that's kind of heartless to say – I was honestly worried though. I really wasn't sure if I made the right decision or not but since you're here I guess I can say I was okay. So thanks for that."

He laid his head against the wall that the two had been leaning against.

"I've been looking for a girl for the past two months. It's actually the reason why I decided to play this game in the first place. Believe it or not, I already knew about the death part when I came in. "

He turned his head over to the girl, she still kept her gaze to the crowd.

"You remind me of her, that's probably the real reason I was so worried about you."

He turned his head back to the crowd. His tone fell as he spoke his next few words.

"But you're not her,"

There was a pause before he continued speaking.

"You would of recognized me immediately if you were, even with this fro. Besides Savannah would never end up depressed over anything, no matter how serious."

He grinned at the memories of his little sister.

"I'm hoping she shows up at this boss fight, but so far I haven't seen any sign of her. I guess there isn't much of a point in going on about that though."

"Truth is she's probably already dead – But I refuse to accept that, Savannah wouldn't be so dumb."

"Anyways, thanks for letting me indulge in my thoughts. I only came here because I really wanted to say – don't let yourself die.

Aidan got up after this statement.

"There's a lot more in the world regardless of what you've lost or how fake it might be. Even without my sister, I've managed to find people worth cherishing, worth fighting for and I'm sure you can do that too. Even if you lose everything all over again the time you spent with what you lost is far more important than mourning the lost because that time is what acts as a basis for building the future.

With that said Aidan began his walk back to his guild. He stopped and turned for some last words:

"Oh and my names Aidan by the way, we should talk some more after the fight, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you."

Aidan pointed at his one visible eye while walking off, a goofy grin on his face.

After a few steps a meek word echoed from the helmed girl.

"Thanks."

With missing a beat or turning, Aidan brought his right arm over his head for a peace sign.

"Yeah, yeah."

Taka and Rognarr: Poets United: I've Grown Too Lazy to Keep Track of Both...Curses!
Christmas Day, Monsters to Slay!

T'was the morning of Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The swords and axes were hung were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that all battles to be fought would be fair.

The warriors were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of slaying evil danced in their heads.
And Taka with his greatsword, and Rognarr with his axe,
Had settled their brains with for a long winter nap.

When out of their rooms arose a such a clatter,
Many players sprung from their beds to see what was the matter.
Away to the hallways they flew with a fwoosh,
Tore open the doors with a loud voosh!

The sun on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave the lustre mid-day to objects below.
When, what to their wandering eyes should appear,
A miniature viking and a normal-sized brigadier!

With a little old gallop, so lively and quick,
They knew in the moment that these guys were pricks!
More rapid than coursers, their feet they came!
The watchers whistled and shouted, and cursed their names!

"Now Taka, now Rognarr! You guys are fixin',
Come on Cupid, come on Vortex, and Nixon!
We're fixing to give these rude sleep-ruiners a right good mixin'!"
This caused the poets to run like the dickins!

As wild leaves before a wild hurricane fly,
When they meet an obstacle, vault over the guy!
So out to the plains they flew!
With inventories filled with food they carried too!

And then a tinkling they heard on the roof,
The trickle of icicles lead them aloof!
And in their heads, too afraid to turn around,
Down the streets to avoid the "weapons" they bound!

They were dressed in cloaks, from their heads to their feet,
And all their clothing was tarnished with the mark of heat! (Soot)
Their large weapons in bundles on their back,
They looked like thieves running from a pack!

Their eyes, how they twinkled, their faces covered with fear!
Their noses were wrinkled, their eyes searching for opponents near!
Their droll little mouths were drawn up like bows,
The expressions on their face were surely froze.

The stump of meat sticks they held in their teeth,
Smoke had encircled their feet like a comfortable pair of briefs.
They had angular faces, and bellies of air,
They let out laughs that suggested they never even cared!

They were skinny and tired, but jolly old bards,
One could not help but laugh when they witnessed the pair run yards.
Winks of their eyes and nods of their eyes,
Let the bystanders know there was nothing to dread.

They spoke not a word, and stopped at a place of work,
And filled their lungs with air, too afraid to twist or jerk.
And laying fingers on their nose,
And giving a nod, their blades in the air rose!

They sprang into the field of battle, they gave a whistle,
and away they flew like the down of a thistle!
But they heard them shout as they flew out of sight,
"TO ALL A SAO CHRISTMAS, AND TO ALL A GOOD FIGHT!"

Far too proud of this mediocre parody

Turnip
HP 100% | LV. 14 | XP 67% | Col 9437
Location - Floor 2: Lone Tree

The armoured figure turned as Robin approached.

"Hey," Robin says to Turnip, "Getting into trouble again? On second thought, don't answer that."

"I'll answer it, and you'll take it." Turnip replied dryly, "'Trouble' woke me up at five in the morning."

The pseudo-vegetable kept his sword somewhat ready when Phoenix drew hers. It was a nice-looking katana; as much as Turnip disliked her attitude, he couldn't knock her choice in weapon. The fact that it was pointed at him made it a little less amiable, but still…

"You're the moron, and I didn't cheat! And I don't have to answer for a damn thing!!" Phoenix sheathed her weapon, glaring, this time with a real look of annoyance. Turnip merely raised an eyebrow in response. "I got the item and gave it back to Kagome, that's all there is to it! While all of you idiots were ready to just kill someone over it, trampling over my plan to get it so recklessly! Both of you. I bartered with the PK, got the cloak from him, and gave it to Kagome. I mean, I was gonna keep it for myself initially, but..." She shook her head. "Then I'd be just like that guy. Well, minus the murdering. Oh yeah, and he forwarded me a message he'd received too. An anonymous sender gave him the order to kill Saito, so the cloak was just collateral." She turned back to Robin. "And what're you doing here?"

Turnip stabbed his sword into the ground in front of him in silence. His grip tightened on the hilt of his sword, and he paused for another moment. He laughed sarcastically, almost darkly, a strange sound for the expressive man – especially when enhanced by his helmet's resonance. Despite not being visible, his gaze seemed to burn with anger. Not many could provoke that in Turnip.

"You're really hopeless, aren't you?" He began, the question phrased more as a simple statement, "Firstly; 'you're the moron', great comeback, I'm sure you'll win some awards with that – secondly, using console commands is cheating. In a multiplayer game, especially. And that's not even mentioning the immortal phoenix you were, which is either cheating or gloriously overpowered. I'm not old, but I've probably been gaming longer than you've been alive. Don't tell me I'm wrong when I'm right."

Turnip yanked his sword from the ground and began pacing, swinging his sword from hand to hand, "Thirdly, and probably most seriously, you are NOT the centre of the universe, I do NOT care what your plan was, and I will NOT have you tell me you have nothing to answer for when you acted as the ESCAPE VEHICLE for a SERIAL KILLER. Are you that sickeningly naïve? PKers are murderers, here. Nirvana had killed before, he'd just killed then, and thanks to you, he'll probably kill again. Innocent lives are just that little bit more at risk, now. There's virtually no law here. There's no police force and judicial system around to arrest him, give him a fair trial and lock him up. And apparently you're fine with that, because you're THE Phoenix, only your opinion matters, oh queen of the god damn flaming universe."

Turnip turned his back on the conversation, but twisted back to say one last thing. "I'm not finished; I need to talk to you about that console of yours. See what its limitations are. If there's a way to fight Kayaba, there's a better chance of finding it there than in-game. For now, though, I need to kill something. Guess why."

Turnip moved off to the left immediately, finding the nearest mob and wreaking havoc upon it. He'd spared Phoenix the rant the first time. He certainly hadn't this time. Mobs were pretty good as stress relievers, but he hoped there'd be enough. He wasn't out of this conversation yet.

As Turnip turned and merely walked off, Hono looked ready to burst. Her eyes nearly burned with real fire, and she was grinding her teeth together. She one-arm hugged Renco for a moment, her anger probably raising the temperature around her by several degrees. "This'll just be a minute..." She headed off after him, barely able to contain the fury the armored man had wrought. Once she got close enough, she bashed the back of his helmet with the hilt of her blade-- as hard as she feasibly could. She sheathed her weapon, however. "I'm not done with you." She crossed her arms, her entire body visibly trembling to withhold her temper. "I don't use the console to cheat, and even if I knew how, I wouldn't unless I had a very good reason, so don't you DARE call me a cheater!!" She couldn't hold it in any longer; her rage was slipping out, and fast. "And what are you talking about!? I'm not immortal!! I know I'm not the center of the universe, but I'm not going to stand around and hide in a big, shiny suit and judge others, WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THEM!!"

Hono was literally seething in her own anger. "My parents were murdered by a guild of player killers, and until minutes ago, I thought my brother was too!!" Tears were welling up below her eyes, though her skin was pink with fury. "But I'm not going to stoop to their level!! WHO GAVE YOU THE DAMN RIGHT TO DECIDE IF SOMEONE SHOULD LIVE OR DIE!?" Tears streaked down her cheeks and she turned, walking back toward the Lone Tree. "You're not touching my console." She swiped her sleeve across her face, wiping the tears off. "Stay away from me, stay away from my brother, and stay away from Shiren." As soon as she returned, she didn't face anyone else, merely walked to Renco, and hugged him tightly at the waist.

Lucina
Player level 16
Floor 2: Urbus

As both Lucina and Robin heard someone making a ruckus by the lone tree, Robin replies to Lucina's question. "I don't think that'll be necessary." He approached the people at the lone tree and left Lucina behind. "H-Hey wait for me..." She said quietly, then deciding whether she should go or not. In the end she decided to go because Shiren and Hono were involoved. She followed to hooded boy and arrived a little bit later but early enough to see Robin talk to a masked person who seemed to be Turnip. "Getting into trouble again? On second thought, don't answer that." Robin removes his hood and Lucina immediately took this opportunity to take a much better look at his face to make and end to her curiosity. She still found him familiar but couldn't think of where she could've possibly seen him. She should ask him later.

"My name is Robin, might I ask who you are?" Robin introduced himself. Hono immediately jumped in after seeing him and answered all the questions that Robin wanted to ask her but hadn't asked yet. It seems like there have been rumors and Hono knew he would ask her this. "I'll answer it, and you'll take it. 'Trouble' woke me up at five in the morning." Turnip replied to Robin's earlier comment. He immediately started resuming the argument he was having with the younger girl. Hono barked back and told him to stay away from her, Shiren and the boy who turned to be her older brother.

"Guyyysss... Stop this right now." Lucina jumped in. "There's no need to fight over this, also... Turnip, it's not 5 am, it's 9 am." Lucina corrected him, even though she knew he wouldn't like it because he clearly was one of these "I never do anything wrong" people. "As on why Robin is here, I'm afraid that's my fault." Lucina said as she came closer. "I carelessly fell asleep in the open field." Lucina rubbed the back of her head and thought. "You really shouldn't argue so early in the morning." Lucina turned to Hono's older brother. "My name is Lucina, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm glad Hono still has some family left." Lucina smiled warmly as she stood beside Robin. "Hono, Shiren, are you alright?"

"Thanks."

Aidan was the first person Ember had any sort of interaction with Ember since her guild's unfortunate demise.
It would be quite the turn of events if she was indeed the boy's sister, but as the boy said, she was not.

She knew nothing of this guy. His name wasn't familiar and her name was not Savannah. Her name was Kiran Halina, also known as Ember in SAO, or Mimiru cosplayer number one, by some certain deceased souls. A 16 year old girl who joined this game for fun: nothing more, nothing less. This was not meant to be a means of escape for her, she didn't have a bad life outside of the game, she honestly liked it. She loved her parents, her siblings, her friends, her school; there wasn't a single thing she could say she hated about the 16 years of her life. Truly, Ember was a simple person who just wanted to have fun. She didn't expect to be sucked into such a unusual and depressing situation.

"I really just want to go home…"

The girl whispered to herself. This world was too much for her, these feelings too powerful, the sense of, sorrow, guilt, lost, and loneliness were just too strong. She hugged her knees to her chest, letting her sword fall to her side. Aidan's words circled in her head.

"There's a lot more in this world for you regardless of what you've lost."

The words circled around in her head, such simple and obvious advice, why did they seem to hold so much meaning? It was probably because the words held the reason why the girl played the game in the first place, to try something novel and fun.

"I guess these feelings are new…but they definitely aren't fun."

She sighed into her chest, just missing the key to the conundrum bothering her. The answer isn't the fact that you are doing something new, it's that new things lead to the concept of fun, even if the path makes for some difficulties. That's a key to the classical concept of a videogame. What would be the point if you could just find yourself at the end from the start? Challenge makes for fun.

"Challenge…So my challenge is to just keep going."

Truth was, with this game, you create your own challenges. The world is yours to create, a seed to create an infinite amount of stories. Everyone faces the challenge to keep going, as all who end up stopping are designated as losers. However, the means that people reach their ends are all different and the true challenges are being able to overcome those challenges that bring an end to the game. With Ember, her challenge was to understand her emotion and overcome them. The question was then born in Ember, are you a loser?/i]

An aspect of Ember's mind immediately answered no. Of course she wasn't, she was never a loser. Everything in her life was great, why would she ever decide that she was. But another aspect loomed into her mind, questioning her resolve. Of course she was a loser, only a loser would end up with all their friends dead all at the fault of their own choices.

"Even if we kill the boss, what does that mean? It won't bring be able to bring them back, I won't truly be avenging my friends deaths. Truth is their blood is on my hands…I'm just pathetic. I should just go die."

Aidan's words came back to her.

"Don't die."

It seemed dying wasn't an option anymore. She sighed. Why did she have to remind that boy of his sister? I guess it's because she wasn't a loser. Ember chuckled to herself as she looked down to her sword and the emblem embedded into the sword's hilt.

It was a blue flame. Solitary and small, much like the girl was feeling right now.

"I ended up with a fitting name huh?"

She unfolded her legs and picked up her sword.

Ember of Azure Flame

The girl was the last of the guild, the last ember keeping it alive. There was something noble and cool about the notion. It put her heart a little at ease.

"I guess the best way of taking responsibility for my action is to keep the guild – and everyone's hope and memory alive. If I died, what did everyone who fostered me into the person I am right now fight for? What would they have achieved?"

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The answer made Ember understand just how silly she was being. Looking at this from the outside, she was being quite childish. Completely missing the big picture and trying to ruin everything because she didn't understand. What else could that be described as other than stupid and childish? She couldn't help but smile at the realization.

With that she decided it was her responsibility to reignite the fire. Dying wasn't an option, so the only means of taking responsibility to keep everyone's hopes alive. Even if it was hard, she couldn't just throw away the last memories of her friends, the last efforts, everything she loved about them, just because they made the choice to die. She was just being selfish and stupid and it was time to take responsibility.

With newfound purpose, the girl got up, swiped her UI to remove her helmet, revealing her true self to the world. She began with a light comment as she looked over at her status.

"…Huh? Guess I leveled up on my way here."

With those words and a refreshing grin The Last Ember of Azure Flame began a new chapter of her life

Chiitaa [Renco Nakamura]
Lv. 16 // Lone Tree
Col: 2000 // XP: 25% // HP: 79%

It suddenly occurred to Renco Nakamura that he had never thought of how to calm down his sister in case of such an outbreak, it also occurred to him that he never thought that his sister would get into an argument so quickly, and it then occurred to him that he should feel fine since he had no idea this was going to happen. Maybe he should've. He shuddered slightly at the thought.

Then, when it continued, Renco stood awkwardly and at various intervals wanted to find a way to shut everyone up. But he knew it'd be kind of awkward, again, since he had no idea who any of these people were... certainly, the word he was looking for was "entirely out of the loop." Five words, but still a set of words or a phrase or whatever you consider them; but regardless he stood there kind of dumbstruck and confused about just about everything until someone else decided to bring about order. Said "someone else" was named Lucina apparently, who he reminded himself to thank later for helping to ease an inescapable headache. And she was also a motherly figure to Shiren...? She didn't look too bad herself, really- in fact, she looked to possibly be a princess, or royalty, but above that beautiful. ...There had to be a reference here, he knew there was.

"Guyyysss... Stop this right now. There's no need to fight over this, also... Turnip, it's not 5 am, it's 9 am. As on why Robin is here, I'm afraid that's my fault. I carelessly fell asleep in the open field." Guess there's no need to ask if she's single now. Oh well... "You really shouldn't argue so early in the morning." The woman now turned to him."My name is Lucina, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm glad Hono still has some family left. Hono, Shiren, are you alright?"

"Normally I would tell you my in-game name, but since you know Hono's name, I suppose it isn't a problem. Renco, nice to meet ya Lucina. And you too, Robin. Both of you don't seem like bad people, although Robin seems a bit..." Conceited... stuck-up, maybe? "...Serious."

Hello, you're listening to version… 6, I think, of my last will and testament. Or just last wishes, since I guess I don't exactly have an estate to hand down. Ever since I got this crystal I've been making a new version each time we go somewhere we know is dangerous and I keep re-recording on the same crystal because these things are really expensive, but whatever. This time it's addressed specifically to my good friend Enrique, and if anyone else finds this, I guess by looting my corpse after killing me because if monsters kill me all my stuff just shardifies, please deliver it to him. He's got brown hair and sorta tanned skin, wears this blue and white jacket, and has a ton of jewelry on him so he's kinda hard to miss. If it did get to you, Enrique, and you're already listening to this then you don't exactly need to be reminded how you look. What you do need to know is that yes, I really am dead. Merry Christmas, huh...

I know we haven't really known each other that long, but I feel like I can trust you with this. You're really loyal and honest and you act like you've got everything under control. God knows I don't or else I wouldn't feel like I have to make one of these every time I go in the dungeon or something. But anyway, there's something I want you to do for me. You said you lived in Virginia, right? Well, when we get out of this, I want you to go to New York, where I live. It's a bright yellow house in Buffalo on Adams street, harder to miss than even you. There I want you to tell my family that I love them. Tell my mom that wherever I've gone, that I'll be fine, and tell my little sis that she needs to take care of mom. Be the man of the house, I guess, haha. She needs to start taking responsibility now. Then tell her that if she doesn't then I'll haunt her or something.

… It's funny. I've said pretty much the exact same stuff about… was it 6? ...Yeah, like 6 times already, and I'm still tearing up. Better shut this thing off before I start embarrassing myself, haha. So I hope I can say all that stuff to them myself when it's all over, but if I can't, well, that's the whole point of this thing. Well, I guess this is goodbye. Take care of this, or else I'll haunt you too!

...

Enrique listened to the recording that had been delivered to him late that evening by one of the members of his best friend's guild. Well, former best friend now, it seemed. He'd been sitting there in the darkness, alone in his room at the inn as he listened to it and let out an incredible sigh as it finished. Again, huh? He gritted his teeth and returned the crystal to his inventory. He could feel a lump in his throat. Then he just lied back down on his bed and closed his eyes. Maybe the bliss of unconsciousness would help get his mind off what he had just heard. Yeah, that was a good idea.

People die. Happens all the time, and there's nothing I can do about it. No use making a big deal out of it, right?

December 25, 2022

The next day arrived and Enrique found himself wandering towards the Lone Tree. After responding to messages he'd received since falling asleep he planned to make his way to the boss room, but for some reason he just felt like seeing what was up at the tree. Thus, with his trademarked grin and his dagger in hand, Enrique began walking across Urbus. He held his dagger not because he wanted to fight or anything, but because he had a habit of flipping the small knife in the air when he wasn't doing anything. It went up, spun a couple of times, then came back into his hand over and over as he walked.

The day was snowy, just like yesterday, and he liked it. Yesterday he had fun joining a snowball fight with some others he'd met that day. It was stunning how real the snow felt. Well, it didn't matter whether it was fake or not, it was still pretty and still fun. He walked on, and began to ponder what sorts of things he could make with the presents he'd gotten yesterday. Most of it was crafting materials, and some of it was clothes or food. In fact, today he was wearing a new grey shirt underneath the jacket he always wore. Anyway, he would probably make a new bracelet, ideally another one with a cool effect. He could probably pull it off considering how he'd recently blown all his money on rare crafting gems. Another lower cooldown time effect would be so cool considering the already puny amount his Sting art required along with his right ring's effect.

More idle thoughts passed through his mind before he finally made it to the tree. As usual, there were a lot of people there, even in the morning. What was unusual though was what they were doing. Enrique was ready to greet everyone when he came upon- "WHO GAVE YOU THE DAMN RIGHT TO DECIDE IF SOMEONE SHOULD LIVE OR DIE!?" His own cheerful grin now made him feel really awkward in the midst of what was clearly intense drama, so, with what had now become a nervous smile, he tried to shuffle around the scene. It looked like coming to the Lone Tree wasn't the best idea, so he decided to head directly to the boss room instead.

Fortunately for him, the boss room wasn't very far from the Lone Tree and he made it there pretty quickly. He hoped he could meet those people from the tree another time when they were calmer. There were already a lot of other players entering the dungeon in preparation to fight the boss, but it wasn't like last time when they were all in one big group coming in. He entered the dungeon and stopped tossing his dagger. Now he would actually need to use it. He opened his menu to equip his leather armor and buckler and proceeded deeper into the dungeon.

He'd never been here before, having only visited the floor's Marome dungeon during his one day on this floor. It was surprising how quickly the boss room was found this time actually. Maybe it was exactly where it had been on the beta this time. He walked alongside others and he stirred up a conversation with the two next to him. It was pointless chatter over play-styles and interests, but it was better then walking along in boring silence. In their conversation, Enrique and his two new companions had fallen a little behind the others. Of course, as it would be written in the predator's handbook, the stragglers were the ones who were targeted.

The boy named Flamio was knocked down before the trio even realized there were enemies around. Enrique quickly identified the enemy as a four-eyed frog before it was knocked off of Flamio by the girl named Mjoll's battleaxe. It didn't seem to help much, though, because four more of the creatures came to overwhelm the small group. "All right guys, time to prove what you told me," said Enrique with that grin ever present. Enrique seemed built more for fighting people than monsters, but he felt confident that the three of them could win despite the fact that they'd only just met.

The ensuing fight was a short one, with Mjoll dealing most of the damage. Enrique used his Shuffle art and natural agility to defend from multiple directions more easily and dodge, keeping enemies busy while dealing bits of damage every once in a while with Sting, whereas Flamio used his longsword to watch Mjoll's back as she tore through the frogs. Fighting together is a good way to bond, so the three added each other to their friends list on the way to the boss room.

Once they arrived, Mjoll and Flamio separated from Enrique temporarily to prepare for the battle, either by trading for items, making their own plans, talking to beaters, or simply mentally preparing. Enrique didn't bother with that, though, and instead looked around at the others present. There were all sorts of people there, even one with a huge orange afro. It made Enrique wonder whether or not he should alter his own hairstyle. Electric blue, maybe?

Enrique was bored, having gone back to tossing his dagger in the air. All the people he usually messaged were busy or dead, and he couldn't go train on his own. He decided to chat with the nearest person, who happened to be a dark-skinned girl who was scantily clad in red armor. "Hey, how much longer do you think this'll take," he started, turning to her while still flipping his knife. "Oh, I'm Enrique, by the way. Well, you could probably tell that from my username but it's my real name too." He grinned and stopped messing with his weapon, extending the other hand for a handshake.

Robin - Lvl 12
Floor 2: Lone Tree
HP: 68% - EXP: 2% - Col: 1101

A decent group was together, Robin among them. Just as he thought, Shiren was alive and all. How is it their are Hono & Shiren in the same place? Either way, Robin will probably figure it out. Hono got angry at Turnip, proving it by pointing her katana at him. She goes on about the PKer from the first floor boss, "I got the item and gave it back to Kagome, that's all there is to it! While all of you idiots were ready to just kill someone over it, trampling over my plan to get it so recklessly!" Her eyes darted to Robin. "Both of you." This left a distasteful flavor in Robin's mouth.

Robin scratches the back of his head as his only response. Is that how it went? I wasn't gonna recklessly kill him, just interrogate him. She doesn't have to know that though. He left it at that, so as to not aggravate Hono. Who wants to get her more mad than she is now?

"I bartered with the PK, got the cloak from him, and gave it to Kagome." At least Hono's answering Robin's questions without him even asking, "I mean, I was gonna keep it for myself initially, but..." She shook her head. "Then I'd be just like that guy. Well, minus the murdering." Greed gets ya. "Oh yeah, and he forwarded me a message he'd received too. An anonymous sender gave him the order to kill Saito, so the cloak was just collateral." This is news to Robin. There was that surprised look in his eyes too.

An anonymous sender? Who would want Saito dead? Robin tries to think of anyone who would have a motive to kill Saito. Unfortunately, no one comes to mind. "And what're you doing here?" Hono interrupts his thoughts.

"I was going to ask you some questions, but you have already answered for me," Robin explains his presence, but he doesn't finish there, "I just have one question, which I'll save for another time." He glances at Shiren nearby before returning his gaze to Hono. Turnip began criticizing Hono, something about a console. That might have something to do with the Hono/Shiren situation. He rants a little more then goes away to let off some steam. Hone chases after him, & Robin ignores the rest. They're driven by their emotions.

Lucina soon tries to stop the fighting between Turnip & Hono. Robin learns the male player is actually Hono's brother. If he remembers correctly, Hono's family was killed by a guild. What motivation would this guild have to kill them anyway? Lucina makes her introduction, & soon after the player finally speaks.

"...Serious." Serious, right? At least Renco is honest enough to point it out.

"...I choose to be," was Robin's only response, crossing his arms. Now, on to business. Robin plants a finger from his left hand on his forehead to think of something to ask. "...Forgive me for asking, but can you tell me about this guild that killed your family?" He shouldn't intrude into other people's business, but he'll have to deal with his. It's how he was born. Maybe there's something about this guild Robin will find familiar.

Turnip
HP 100% | LV. 14 | XP 67% | Col 9437
Location - Floor 2: Lone Tree

As a mini-tauros neared him, Turnip parried its horns and kicked its face upwards, stabbing it through the throat in a final blow. He heard movement behind him and sidestepped, though was surprised when something connected with the back of his head. He spun his sword in his hand and thrust backwards, then- nope. Turnip stopped himself, redirecting the lunge to the side of the target and away around to his back. The strike probably could have been blocked, but if it had to be then it wouldn't have looked too good for the armoured figure. There stood Hono, decidedly pretty angry.

"Bloody hell, I nearly ran you through." The helmeted player muttered, "Don't do that."

"I'm not done with you." Phoenix said, crossing her arms. "I don't use the console to cheat, and even if I knew how, I wouldn't unless I had a very good reason, so don't you DARE call me a cheater!!"

Really? Turnip moaned inwardly, Even the very act of using the console is cheating, unless you just type in 'hello' and leave it be. If she could do the same things with the same efficiency regularly in-game, she wouldn't use it. If it's more efficient or only possible through the console, then it's cheating.

"And what are you talking about!? I'm not immortal!!"

Hmph. I was talking about the phoenix, apparently she missed that… either that, or I guess 'Immortal Object' doesn't count for anything.

"I know I'm not the center of the universe, but I'm not going to stand around and hide in a big, shiny suit and judge others, WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THEM!!"

Knowing nothing? She's aided a murderer's escape and denied all blame or fault for it. Doesn't that entitle me to judge based on that? Besides, who's she to judge my armour? I'm not even going to get into the practicality of wearing plate mail over a bloody school uniform…

Meanwhile, outside of Turnip's head, Hono was literally seething in her own anger. "My parents were murdered by a guild of player killers, and until minutes ago, I thought my brother was too!! But I'm not going to stoop to their level!! WHO GAVE YOU THE DAMN RIGHT TO DECIDE IF SOMEONE SHOULD LIVE OR DIE!?"

That's a shame, and all – is that really relevant, though? Her parents were murdered by PKers, so… she has the right to be lax on them? What? And WHAT? I just kill people when they kill other people, killing people to stop them from killing other people is hardly making calculated decisions on life and death. And she says I'm the one judging without knowing anything about people, sheesh- Oh, good, she's crying. Bloody fantastic. Overreaction and a half.

Turnip still hadn't said anything; he simply stood, looking thoroughly unimpressed. Hono turned, walking back toward the Lone Tree. "You're not touching my console." She swiped her sleeve across her face, wiping the tears off. "Stay away from me, stay away from my brother, and stay away from Shiren."

Oh. My. Gods. Dickmove.

And that was when Turnip lost all belief in Hono's sense of logic. He thought about Nightmare-style power-punching her in the face, but that'd destroy any chance of him using the console, if he even had any left as it is. Also, not having a massive demonic hand would make it decidedly more difficult. Wait a minute… oh, dear, it wasn't another of those moments again, was it? Despite being (probably) human himself, he often didn't really understand people in general. Maybe now was one of those times… or it was just that he was right and she was entirely wrong after all. Or maybe a mix of the two. He took few steps closer to the group that seemed to be forming, as Phoenix seemed to be walking back to Chiita, who Turnip could only assume was Hono's brother. The helmeted player began to speak again, but frankly he was more fed up than angry, now, leaning on his sword.

"Did you even listen to me? Everything you just said was massively hypocritical, I… am I missing something here?"

"Guyyysss... Stop this right now." Lucina jumped in. "There's no need to fight over this, also... Turnip, it's not 5 am, it's 9 am."

"Hi, Not Batman. Uh, I don't know, maybe I read it wrong, I was pretty sure it was around five when Shiren woke me… Oyyy…" Turnip ran a hand down his helmet's face, "Look, Phoenix, I still don't agree with, erm, literally anything you've said or done, but do you mind letting me have a look at the console for the sake of everyone else in the game? Or let someone else look, even, I don't know if anyone else here knows general coding. I'm… I'm tired and grumpy, if anyone agrees with me I'd rather they handle the diplomatics. I'm evidently pretty atrocious at them."

Hey, wait a minute: If Robin was looking for Phoenix, and Lucina isn't Batman, and Phoenix's parents are dead… does that make Phoenix Batman? I think I've solved it! Maybe I should tell Phoenix, that could cheer her up! Or, uh… do the exact opposite… I think this is exactly what I was talking about in terms of my diplomatic skill…

Hono Nakamura ― «火の鳥»

Adorably Ecstatic

Chapter IV ― Part VIII
"Family"

Lone Tree
x
.

Hono watched in silence as everything seemed to happen around her, and honestly, she had stopped paying attention. She just sort of gripped at her older brother's torso for several moments before she heard Turnip's voice once more. "Look, Phoenix, I still don't agree with, erm, literally anything you've said or done, but do you mind letting me have a look at the console for the sake of everyone else in the game? Or let someone else look, even, I don't know if anyone else here knows general coding. I'm… I'm tired and grumpy, if anyone agrees with me I'd rather they handle the diplomatics. I'm evidently pretty atrocious at them."

For several long seconds after he finished speaking, Hono merely stood upright and turned, her back to Turnip and the rest of the group, With Renco and Shiren at each of her sides. "..... No." She shook her head slowly. "I definitely don't trust you with it..." She began walking away, toward Urbus.

Shiren watched her as she left, glancing back at Lucina and Renco a couple times. She looked to Turnip for a few seconds, before crossing her arms and puffing her cheeks as if suddenly now upset with Turnip as well. "Hono!" She turned and began to run after Hono, shouting "Chotto matte kudasaiiiiiiii!!" She paused in place, turning back to see if anyone else had followed, before quickly chasing after Hono again. She lifted off the ground, now hovering at a faster pace, soon catching up to Hono.

A brisk breeze blew, causing a somewhat deceptive bob in the fishing line. Godot, who was holding the fishing rod, briefly looked down from the sky and glanced at the bob before returning his gave to the sky. Apathy, who was not far off, sat hugging her legs and looking at her feet. They were both silent, though for different reasons. Apathy found it difficult to even look at Godot, and Godot tried his best to brace the cold. He hated the cold. If there was one thing between SAO and the real world that he despised, it was the cold, and he never enjoyed cold dry mornings fishing on the lake, either. He was practically praying for the Silver Salmon to flounder out of the water so he'd be able to warm up from the heat of combat. It was a nice thought, something that was almost warming in itself. Apathy didn't seem to mind, but she started to fidget. Godot noticed out of the corner of his eye and immediately addressed it.

"Is something wrong, Rise?" he asked. Apathy seemed to be mulling something over in her head and held back from responding right away. Godot raised an eyebrow. Assuming he wasn't going to get an answer, he smiled and scooted closer to her, something that left Apathy in distress. She looked at her feet more intensely than she previously had. "Here." A prompt for a gift appeared in front of Apathy. "Merry Christmas." Apathy looked up at Godot. He wasn't the greatest at figuring out when Apathy was happy or surprised or not, something that made him feel like a pretty bad friend.

Apathy accepted the gift to reveal a heart shaped necklace called «Vital Sense». The necklace shimmered, as did Apathy's eyes. Her face reddened, as it often did, which was a signal to Godot that he made the right choice. "What is this?" Apathy's monotone voice was music to Godot's ears.

"I want you wear it." Godot said, looking back at the lake. "...I know that you aren't really some embodiment of hate like you say you are. I don't have Rise Amagawa figured out yet, but..." He nodded his head to the side. "I at least want you to be true to true to yourself. Otherwise, this'll just be a lot harder on me." Apathy looked at the necklace before quickly equipping it, raising her Vitality.

Apathy looked up at Godot and then back at her necklace. "I'd like to change that, but..." She sighed. "Do you have any siblings?"

"Where did that...?" Godot looked puzzled. "...Yeah, a brother and a sister, both are older than me."

"How do you feel about them?" She asked.

"...Why are you asking me this?"

Apathy looked down again. "Do you miss them?"

"Of course I do." Godot said, watching the fishing rod. "I think about them pretty much every day. There's not much that I miss about the outside world, but my family's always come first in my life." Apathy remained silent, seemingly lost in thought.

"...I have a sister. She's in SAO, too." She looked away. "Lucky me, I guess." Godot didn't respond. "...I care about her so much...but she doesn't have the same feelings toward me."

"Sibling rivalry?" Godot asked, returning his attention to Apathy.

"...No. She doesn't even acknowledge me as her sister. She hates me." Godot was ready to quip, but Apathy stopped him in his tracks. "She almost killed me recently." Godot practically jumped. "I guess she has a right to see me the way that she does. She didn't know that she was my sister until I told her, and she was insulted by the mere idea that she was adopted." Apathy hugged her legs tighter. "I'm like a disease that crawled into her life and completely ruined it." Godot looked at Apathy, who seemed to be closer to the edge of emotion than he'd ever seen. "That's why I became Apathy, because only having hate lessens the pain of rejection. After all, if my own sister won't accept me, why would anyone else?"

"...You know that's not true, right?" Godot asked.

Apathy looked at her necklace and nodded. "I do now. But I still can't accept the bitter rage that my sister has towards me. She's one of the most nurturing people in the world. It's just that she gets angry pretty easily, and she rarely throws around empty threats."

Godot thought for a moment. "This girl sounds bipolar to me."

"...I don't know about that. She's just very passionate about her family- me not included. She's a very familial person in general, and she treats the people she's really close to as if they were her own." Apathy looked in Godot's general direction to see his face contorted with rage. "What's wrong?"

"Oh..." Godot smiled. "...It's nothing."

With a puff of air, Apathy stood up and stretched, feeling some sense of accomplishment. With her eyes to the sky, she said, "I did it." Had Apathy not been Apathy, she would have smiled, but instead her eyes simply glimmered. It was the closest thing to a smile that Godot was going to get out of her, and while he didn't exactly understand why she said "I did it," he didn't really want to press the issue anymore. Apathy turned to Godot and said, "Thanks."

"...Why are you thanking me?" Godot asked even more puzzled than he previously was.

"For accepting me. If it weren't for you, I would be dead right now, and I wouldn't have even cared."

Godot expressed disappointment at this for a few moments, only dropping the expression as the bob rattled violently and the water began to ripple. The wyvern had arrived.

Lacy
Player level 13
Floor 2: Urbus

Lacy's eyes slowly opened as the morning sun rays hit her pale face. "Hmm...?" She mumbled as she stretched and yawned. Despite that she slept with her head on the desk, where she was sewing the armor together, she had a good night rest. She took a brief glance at the armor and decided to give it a name "Cloak of courage..." She whispered as she pressed some buttons. "Sounds good~" She said with a small smile. She opened her inventory and put the cloak back where she got it from. She only needed a few more things before she could finish it. She needed «Iron» and «Golden thread» and she knew exactly where she could find it.

She could find «Iron» in the dungeon near the lone tree from a «Tauros». These Tauros were probably a higher level than her but what else could she do? There was no one that she could ask to come along. Actually... there was one but she didn't want to bother him with a stupid mission like that. He would probably think she was weak if she couldn't do this on her own... even though Lacy knew that he wasn't like that.

The «Golden thread» was harder to get. She could get this special item from a high-leveled «Golden Tauros». Just thinking about how that thing could kill her made her shiver. She had everything that she needed if she got those items. She already did a mission to get her «Hair dye: Violet».

"Well then, time to get the few remaining items!" She told herself as she stood up and left her room to check-out. Once outside the inn she proceeded to the lone tree.

"I definitely don't trust you with it..." Hono left together with Shiren after that answer.

"Well then..." Lucina sighed. Both Turnip and Hono were stubborn people. They could either get along very wel or hate each other. In this case it was probably the latter. "How about we all go get something to eat. I bet no one has gotten breakfast yet." Lucina asked to the group with guys behind her. She pulled the hood of her cloak a bit further over her head and looked at Robin. She wanted to ask him something but it was better to wait until they were alone because it was kind of personal.

"Oh... I had Christmas presents for them..." Lucina suddenly remembered and looked back in their direction. "And one for Kagome... and for Godo-" Lucina stopped herself from speaking out that name. "Tch..." She made a noise as she thought back of that memory of yesterday. She couldn't fight the boss fight like this if Godot was still on her mind. She needed to speak with him to sort things out.

Ashley Leigh ― «愛の力»

Unenthusiastically Emotional

Chapter II ― Part III
"Christmas Cheer"

Urbus Plaza > Field
x
.

Ashley opened her eyes to see a snowy sky, and as she sat up, she felt an immediate tensity and pain jolt through her entire body. Perhaps sleeping on a bench alone on a cold, snowy night wasn't the greatest idea? Nonetheless, she stood and stretched out in an attempt to work through the stiffness of her muscles and bones. It then occurred to her that Rise had offered to spend Christmas w-- Oh wow, it's Christmas! She opened her menu, and was surprised to see that the morning had already come and she'd slept in. She knew she'd been told to send a message first, but now that she had her on her friends list... Yup! A few clicks of her menu and she had a GPS-thing that would lead her right to Rise!

As Ashley approached, she was completely taken aback by her own timing: Rise was there, with a guy - likely the one she was talking about yesterday - who had just yanked a monster... Fish... Thingy... Out of the water. She couldn't decide whether this was a situation of intensity or excitement-- maybe both? Nonetheless, the guy reeled it in, so he must've known it would happen. Ashley's eyes lit up and, as the creature flew threw the air, surrounded by droplets of water, time slowed. It was a beautiful scene in every aspect. Suddenly feeling relatively cheery, Ashley pulled out her harp-tar and began to play the tune that was all-too-faint in the background as she approached the situation, namely Rise, as the boy seemed to be busy with the fish. She stood by Rise and watched the other player as he dealt with the fish, saying nothing as she played her song to the end.

Quick to test her conviction a guy dressed in blue approached Ember. It was time to throw away her depression and be the strong person she decided she was going to be. With a happy tone she responded to the boy.

"Hi!"

She returned the boy's handshake and a firm and happy shake. If her attitude was an act or genuine, not even did not Ember know.

"It's nice to meet you Enrique, my names Ember, my real name-"

She took a second before continuing her sentence she laughed before she began speaking.

"It's been a while since I've said it, I king of almost forgot it." The girl let a little laugh before continuing, "My real name's Kiran, though I think I'll still be going by Ember around here. I think it's kind of cool – regarding your first question, I can't really! I came here with practically no info." The girl shrugged.

"I guess you can ask one of the Dark Knight reps." She peered over towards the gate with the knights guarding it. "I can go with you if you decide to go, I'm a bit bored myself honestly."

Taka the Lovable Poet: Level 14 - 30% Exp - 2900 Col
Ragnorak the Fearsome Fighter: Level 15 - 0% Exp - 3200 Col
Of Trees and Freedom

Taka and Ragnorak stood back to back, surrounded by five Tauroses...Taurosi? Taurosorum? Latin joke, you see. The opponents weren't necessarily fearsome on their own, but in groups they could prove to be troublesome. Even for the two warrior-poets. Normally people would be terrified, but these two were, if not stupid, fearless. Taka smiled and said, "Ragnorak, old friend, looks like we've gotten ourselves into a mess."

"We've been friends for no more than a day, dear Taka." The red-head laughed and twirled The Northen Star in his hands. "Welp, let's do this." He leaped forward and slammed the massive ax into the haunch of the nearest Tauros. The monster wasn't expecting a flat-out attack, and was taken by surprise. The attack did a fair amount of damage, leaving the foe with 64% health. "Now!" Taka leaped over his friends back and slammed Poetic Justice onto the bull-creature's head. "Take THAT!" The force of the attack pressed the monster into the ground, nearing its health to around 10%. "And THAT!" Taka finished the foe with a heavy kick to the face.

The remaining four looked at each other and nodded simultaneously. Taka looked to Ragnorak and grinned. "Let's get 'em. Taka RISING!" His sword glowed a beautiful, shining gold. The bard let go of the blade with his left hand. "You bastards can't stop us!" He grinned and began to swing Poetic Justice as hard as he could. The buster blade caught the first Tauros across the waist, causing it to topple to the ground. "HaHA!" He began to bring his blade down on its head repeatedly until he saw it burst into pixels...Sadly his Sword Art faded in the process. Damn... He turned just in time to narrowly sidestep a swing at his face.

Ragnorak jumped in, his axe glowing a bright orange, and grinned. "Take THIS!" He grunted with effort as he swung the axe as hard as his body could possibly manage. The attack would have missed, but the foes were too closely grouped for it. The attack sheared two of them completely in half. Ragnorak would've done a dance for joy, but the one not occupied with Taka took note of the opening and slammed his hammer into Ragnorak's exposed back, dealing a total of 27% damage. "DAMN!" The viking roared in frustration and swung his axe blindly. The blow went wide and hit nothing but air, leaving the Taurus with an attempt to attack. Its hammer began to glow a blood red color.

Taka noticed the Sword art just in time to react. "No!" He dashed forward as quickly as he could and activated his <<Delay>>. His sword contacted with the attack before it could finish his friend. The Taurus was staggered, but his pal came up from behind and hit Taka with his own Sword Art, as= smashing blow to the left. The attack did a total of 53% damage, nearly slaying the bard. Taka tumbled across the ground. Ragnorak, the only one not doing something else, swept his original foe's feet out from under it with a well-placed kick. "Take THIS!" He roared again and brought his axe down hard on its neck, causing it to disappear into pixels as well.

Taka, just now standing up, groaned and brushed the dust off of his nice black cloak. It takes so long to clean this damn thing! He looked up at the remaining Taurus, fire in his eyes, and growled quietly. "<<EARTH SHATTER>>!" He leaped up and slammed his sword into the ground. Slowly the Taurus sunk into the split that appeared before him before he was buried up to his head. With a smirk of satisfaction, Taka swung his blade low enough to destroy the foe.

Ragnorak stood and brushed the dust from his cloak. "Let's get the loot, and head back to the tree, alright?"

"Gotcha. I'm down with that." The bard grinned. They found nothing but Col on the first four. On the fifth, however, Taka found a couple of healing potions. "Excellent! I'm sure these will come in handy!" He grinned and looked to Ragnorak. "Welp, let's go!"

----20 Minutes Later----

Taka and Ragnorak stood near the Lonely Tree, chowing down on rice balls and other such foods. Only light snacks of course. The only thing for this pair to do now was to go on a quest...

Rikuto Yuuto Sato // Ryuusa Lv.7
Urbus > Lone Tree Dungeon
In store: Floor 1 - Kouki, Floor 2 - Closed (Special Item: Berserk Ring / 2000 col)

December 24, 2022

After meeting the mysterious girl, the rest of the race seemed like a blur. By the time he got back, Silver Mist and Camlann had already arrived, as had Kouki. "Don't look at me, these two won the prize," said Kouki. They waited and chatted for a little, but Xenith and Princess still didn't arrive. Rikuto started to get worried, but his concern proved to be for nothing when the two in question showed up a few minutes later. Or was it? Something was off. He could detect something different about Princess, like something was weighing heavily on her mind. It seemed his fatherly instincts were strong.

Rikuto moved to ask Princess what was wrong, but Xenith walked up and put a hand on his shoulder, shaking her head silently as if to say "Don't." His gaze lingered on her before he turned to Xenith instead. "Xenith, can I have a word with you?" he said. His voice was firm and authoritative, yet soft in volume. She nodded, knowing full well what it would be about, and the two moved out of the earshot of the other company members. The others watched, curious but unwilling to get closer and listen. When Rikuto was ready to speak, he came close to her and whispered sternly. "Did you do something to Princess?"

"We just had a chat, that's all," she answered calmly.

"What did you say to her?"

"What she needed to hear." She looked Rikuto straight in the eyes. "We've discussed this; you don't need to take care of her. You need to remember that she's just your employee, nothing more. Now come on, we're holding up Christmas." With that it seemed that Xenith was done because she walked away without giving Rikuto a chance to respond.

After that, the Christmas Party continued as normal. There was a tenseness in the air whenever Rikuto came close to Xenith, but she didn't let anything show, acting like her normal, sarcasm-loving self. They all went to a restaurant afterwards and those who had brought presents exchanged them, Rikuto himself having received a wonderful pair of glasses from Camlann and a spare scarf from Silver Mist. They ate and chatted before everyone else went home for the night.

As Rikuto walked back to the town square he wondered why Xenith seemed almost... angry today. It was true they had discussed this, but the Xenith who he'd talked with yesterday seemed like a completely different person than the one from after the race. He had to wonder if something had happened since then to make her like this. She seemed to support, even believe in Princess before, but now it was as if there was some animosity behind her words. Or maybe it was all just his imagination, perhaps like the little girl from earlier.

Thoughts of all the strange things happening to him as of late occupied his mind while he made his way to one specific stand in the town square. He was glad to have NPCs as shopkeepers sometimes because they didn't need any sleep. Rikuto purchased a Christmas Cake and walked back to his inn room. Once there, he sat on his bed and placed the cake in front of him. All he had to do was tap it to separate a piece. He then placed another thing onto the bed; a stick of incense in its holder. He had bought it at a shop that sold items for furnishing one's home that fortunately didn't need any fire. The cedarwood fragrance was one he could never forget. Bringing a forkful of cake up to his mouth, he stared longingly at the empty space in front of him, breathing in the scent of the incense.

"Merry Christmas, dear."

December 25, 2022

Rikuto was woken up quite unpleasantly by a plethora of sounds. He sat up from the bench he had slept on in the town square. It turned out that he was unable to sleep at all in his room. He figured that a place like the town square stayed at least somewhat populated 24/7 so he'd be safer from assassins there. However, the bench proved to be quite uncomfortable not to mention the fact that town squares weren't exactly known for their peace and quiet. It made for a pitiful amount of actual rest. Well, Rikuto was still grateful for the fact that it successfully kept him safe, and that was what really mattered.

Another good thing that came from this was the fact that he seemed to have woken up quite early. Of course, he usually did, but he was afraid he might suffer a repeat of what happened yesterday. Not the attempted assassination, rather the waking up in the afternoon part. He didn't get to do any mining or resource collection that day, so he would have to make up for it today. Rikuto stood and began his journey to the mining spot he had found his first night on the floor.

Rikuto spent about two and a half hours straight mining before he entered his still-closed shop to practice forging on his anvil. He managed to increase his skill level almost three times by the time he was done, although he made sure to keep a some material in reserve for when he got his hands on gems and other rare items in the hopes of making a unique weapon. Since it was a fairly low-risk mining spot he didn't find anything new, rather he found the better materials of floor one in abundance making it ideal for upgrading items in the shop rather than creating new equipment. He even strengthened his own trusty shield twice, making it <<Full Guard +6>>. He found it interesting how it showed his priorities when put against his uncreatively named <<Partisan +1>>. He'd noticed that other smiths gave fancy names to products that were no better than the standard fare, but with Rikuto's store if there was something like that a customer could be sure it was something exceptional.

With that business done he looked at the time and was surprised to realize it was almost 10AM. He'd been working on his skill since he woke up at around 5:30. With that kind of dedication he began to wonder what level he'd be if he could focus only on grinding, but the shop demanded a lot of his time to remain as successful as it was. Now to think of what to do next. He could always go to the boss room which had surprisingly already been found, but considering the effort it took him to just get there last time he really needed more training. The dungeon would be a good place for that and probably held good materials, but the problem there was that there wasn't anyone to go with him this time. Xenith could still be in a bad mood, and even if she wasn't he had already asked an identical favor of her just two days ago. Princess could still be distressed, and she had her guild duties to attend to. It was also another day off for her what with the boss room having been uncovered. Kouki had decided to work the floor 1 store today, and with Camlann's level he assumed he'd be headed to the boss room as well. That left only Silver Mist who hated fighting.

Rikuto sighed, in the end deciding to just go alone. As long as he was careful he should be able to stay safe, especially with his newly upgraded shield. And so, off to the dungeon he went.

The large serpent-like dragon rose swiftly from the depths of the lake, taking flight and leaving a light rain in its wake. It was quite beautiful, if not exciting. While it, in size, hardly rivaled legendary Eastern Dragons such as Shenlong, the Silver Serpent was easily large enough to give Godot a run for his money. In a lot of ways, the wyvern was reminiscent of Spirited Away's Haku- that is, if Haku had gills and were a much larger and lengthier dragon. Godot readied his weapon and Apathy did the same. Or so Godot thought. "Be careful, Rise, I doubt that this'll be an easy one," Godot said. "The guy who gave me this quest told me that this one wouldn't be a simple fight by any means and, from the looks of it, he was right." As the wyvern descended upon its adversaries and looked upon them menacingly, Godot smiled. He was a big fan of Shadow of the Colossus, but this was the closest that he'd gotten to it since he started the game. In fact, the excitement overcame him so much that he could hardly stand still, and thus, he charged at the wyvern with Mammon's Fang in hand. Rise followed suit...or so Godot thought.

...

"Ashley?" Rise said with a posed look of surprise. In truth, the posed look was completely unnecessary. It was a force of habit, oftentimes because she would use posed expressions around Godot. "What are you-" She stopped herself. She knew why Ashley was there, but she was surprised at the mere fact that she was there so suddenly. Rise'd only noticed Ashley after she had started playing her harp- and playing it beautifully. It was mesmerizing, really. Rise found it to be something of an atrocity that she didn't have any music skills. Or art skills for that matter. It only made sense that Ashley would know how to play, being the Belle that she was. What did Beast have? A curse. It seemed accurate, but even without the melodrama, she felt it weird that she didn't have any skills she could name right off the bat.

...

Godot Sprinted towards the wyvern. The Salmon's head lunged at Godot, taking a small bite out of the earth and missing the young warrior. Godot stopped himself with one foot and turned his body with his other foot, quickly activating the sword art Dash Flurry, darting towards the flustered dragon's head, jumping, and unleashing a torrent of hits. One by one, the shots each hit their mark, and the wyvern at least seemed agitated. In the end, Godot ended up getting out 8 of the possible ten hits. It wasn't great, but it could have been worse. He landed on his target and the dragon promptly rose its head. High. Higher than expected. It wasn't long until Godot realized that it wasn't simply the dragon's head that was being raised, but rather, the entirety of its being was taking flight.

Godot swallowed hard as he watched himself raise further and further from the ground. Illfang's head? Small potatoes compared to this. He was suddenly filled with a feeling uneasiness, as if he were looking over the edge of Niagra Falls without any sort of guard rail. The dragon wasted little time. It got to the point that Godot could see everything and, upon reaching a certain elevation, the Silver Salmon sped forward, and Godot tumbled over backwards before he was even able to comprehend what was going on. He hurriedly grabbed on to whatever he could, desperately clinging onto a lock of its hair...and sliding off. Because of this, he gained 5 Silver Salmon Locks, but he was still in serious danger of falling off of the beast. He tried again, this time getting a firmer grasp on the beast and tightening his grasp so that he wouldn't become falling debris.

Standing up wouldn't be an easy affair. Even looking straight was difficult as the wind nearly blinded him, and the wyvern would oft zigzag in a similar fashion to that of a snake so as to maintain speed. He would need to pull himself forward. He let go with one hand and slipped off with the other, though this time he regained his grasp much more quickly than in his previous attempts. He'd underestimated how much strength he would need to hang on, took a few deep breaths, and tried again. He reached forward a modest amount and grabbed onto the wyvern, pulling himself forward and repeating the process a few times. He was making headway, moving when the dragon held straight and stopping when it wiggled about. There was a rhythm to it that soon became second nature.

Once he reached the skull, however, things changed. Godot didn't go on too many roller coasters growing up. His first roller coaster was one of the most infamous, and that was it for him. It wasn't that he'd grown a phobia of coasters; in fact, it was just the opposite. He'd grown such a resistance to smaller coasters that none of the others compared, and this went on for so long that he simply lost interest in them altogether. He thought that he'd never feel the thrill- or fear- that came with riding a roller coaster like he felt the first time around.

That was, until the wyvern did a nosedive.

There was nothing to compare it to. Godot was descending at such a speed that his ears popped instantly, and still an incredibly high pitch sound ravaged his eardrums. His grip was firm, but Godot himself felt weak. It was something of an out-of-body experience, as his body wasn't listening to him. He tried to move his fingers, but they were too intent on keeping him alive to heed him. As he quickly approached the land, he realized that the monster was actually planning to dive into the lake. Godot took a deep breath, let go of the wyvern while quickly placing his hands at his side, and dove into the water like a speeding bullet. He quickly found that the lake was surprisingly deep, as he descended a good amount, and further as the force of the wyvern's descent dragged him down further. He oriented himself so that he was right-side up, a task made much easier thanks to the shallow depths that he found himself in. He swam upwards, but just before reaching the surface, Godot found it difficult to make progress. In fact, he seemed to be regressing.

The reason for this was made clear the moment he looked below him. The Silver Salmon was swam deftly in circles, creating a whirlpool to keep the adventurer from escaping. It was a smart one, indeed. Because of this, Godot found it pointless to try to swim out of the water, and instead, he used the whirlpool against the calculating beast. Godot, who was running out of breath, held his sword in both hands and flipped himself upside down. He gradually increased his downward momentum and tried to keep his eye on the dragon's head. He plunged downward and, once he was close enough, he thrust upwards (or downwards, technically) and dealt a fatal blow the the wyvern. That was his intention, at least, but he ended up missing by quite a bit and instead the blade landed inside its midsection. Far off the mark, but it was wishful thinking in the first place.

Again, the wyvern rose from the water and into the air. This time, however, Godot had more control over the situation. His sword provided a better grip than his hands did, and he had little to no problem hanging onto his adversary. As the dragon sailed across the sky, Godot walked forward and shielded his eyes, kneeling down and stabbing downward for stability, and this time making much better time than last time. He finally the dragon's head, and once he did, he used Dash Flurry and dealt major damage. Of course, it wasn't over yet. Repeating the same strategy as before, the dragon took a nosedive. Rather than holding onto his sword and waiting for the plunge, Godot instead raised his blade, if only a little, and allowed it, as well as himself, to slide across the dragon's body and deal damage accordingly. The lake was below them, but the wyvern seemed to be straying from it. It was hurt, and its judgement and flying seemed to reflect that. Godot, who was flying free alongside the dragon's body, grabbed onto the wyvern's lustrous tail of hair, and his fall was cushioned as the Silver Salmon crashed into the ground just in front of the lake.

Godot climbed down from the coiled mountain and sighed. The first thing he saw was his little ball of Apathy and a mysterious new girl with harp in hand. He looked back briefly and headed towards the two. He sighed a second time and then shot Apathy a stark look.

Apathy, looking away, said, "...Need a potion?"

"Where were you?" Godot asked with just a touch of attitude. "I thought you were ready."

"I was, but," Apathy pointed at Ashley with her thumb. "She showed up. Nice girl, we just met five minutes ago. Says her name's Chicha." She looked in yet another direction. "I know how you feel about young girls and how they get your engines going and, I'm not gonna lie, Chicha's been staring at only you since she get here, but she's mine; got it?"

Godot looked at Rise for a few moments with what could only be sheer, bonafide disbelief before turning to...Chicha, and looking her over. He shot Risa a stark look one last time. "Well...Chicha, I'm Godot. Sorry to keep you waiti-"

"DON'T YOU SAY IT!" Rise said with just about the most emotional monotone stoicism Godot'd ever heard. The contradiction was so much of a blowback that Godot was actually taken aback. Rise, poking Godot's chest, said, "I forbid you from using your cheesy-ass pick-up lines on Chicha, ESPECIALLY that one!"

Godot winced and felt defeated. "I..." Godot sighed. "You don't know how long since I started SAO that I've been waiting to say that. There are only so many situations where it can be used! I...hang on." Godot turned around to see a weakened Silver Salmon hovering toward him. With a final Dash Flurry, Godot dashed towards the wyvern who, in turn, lunged at him. Godot allowed the wyvern to hit him, only to unleash his art directly to its mouth, breaking of its fang and dealing the rest of the hits to its head. The two fell to the ground, yet only the wyvern dematerialized, leaving Silver Salmon Meat and a few Silver Salmon Scales in his wake.

Level Up!
Level 13 -> Level 14

Godot looked at the message and smiled. "Today's just full of good news, now isn't it?" On the outside, it may have seemed as if he felt the battle was no problem, but that battle was easily the largest high and fill of adrenaline that he'd experienced in SAO...second only to the battle with Illfang where there was more at stake. It was exciting...and yet, it filled him with fear. Fear that all that had just happened would be gone once the game was cleared. He would be left with what little he had to go back to. And yet, he still strove to defeat the bosses, because it wasn't about him. He fought because there were others who did have a world to go back to. It would only be a selfish act to simply neglect the game's goal just so that he could exist within a world where he had a purpose and could avoid the mundane. This thought had entered his mind before, but he cast it out. He couldn't allow himself to be overcome by such desires. He couldn't let that doubt enter his mind, lest his entire person be completely transformed.

He turned back to the two girls, Chicha in particular, and asked, "Now what's your name really?" Rise scoffed, hoping that Godot would have at least believed that much.

"...Need a potion?"

"Where were you? I thought you were ready."

"I was, but, She showed up. Nice girl, we just met five minutes ago. Says her name's Chicha."

What? "I--"

"I know how you feel about young girls and how they get your engines going and, I'm not gonna lie, Chicha's been staring at only you since she get here, but she's mine; got it?" Rosy cheeks and a massive case of confusion were all that fated Ashley at this moment.

Being 'examined' by the guy turned rosy red to bloody crimson. "Well...Chicha, I'm Godot. Sorry to keep you waiti-"

"DON'T YOU SAY IT!" And just like that, rosy red returned, with some added confusion. "I forbid you from using your cheesy-ass pick-up lines on Chicha, ESPECIALLY that one!"

The guy came back after defeating the fish-thing, asking Ashley directly. "Now what's your name really?"

Ashley first looked to Rise, as if hoping for an answer from her, or any kind of input. She sincerely wondered what the entire conversation just then actually meant. "Ai No Chikara, but you can call me Ashley." Ashley formed a bit of a shrug, though as always, her face was someone frozen in neutral. "I'm a..." She glanced at Rise for a moment, "friend of Rise's." Pausing, she leaned in toward Rise, whispering, "Are you sure I should stay here... I feel like a third wheel..."
